Step one: get Ben to fall in love with Mal. Step two: steal Fairy Godmother's wand at Ben's coronation. Step three: release their parents from the Isle of the Lost.
It was a foolproof evil scheme, but Mal, Evie Ben, and Carlos are beginning to get used to their comfortable new lives in Auradon. Mal's even beginning to feel uneasy about manipulating Ben's emotions. Can they still go through with their plans to destroy the United States of Auradon? Follow along as the VKs make some of the biggest decisions of their lives... for better or for worse.
The truth is that I don't have the slightest idea that there's a TV movie of Descendants, where this comic series is adapted from. Therefore, I'm not familiar with the storyline as well as the characters of Descendants; and reading this second volume is not a good idea because it felt like fumbling for details through out the issue.
Another disappointment is that this second installment in this trilogy is empty. After reading this, I didn't find anything amusing that will make me anticipate for the last issue or even read the previous volume. The plot of the story is great and the problem is that it is not properly executed, that's why it is ineffectual in the end.
Let me begin by telling you I’ve never seen the movie and haven’t read volumes 1 or 3 of this Disney Manga trilogy. Based on the blurb and cover illustration, we’ve got some kids who spend a considerable amount of time at the hairdressers and who usually live on the Isle of the Lost with their Disney baddie parents - Maleficent, the Evil Queen, Jafar and Cruella De Vil.
I don’t know how or why but these baddies in training have been invited to attend a yuppie prep school in Auradon alongside the goody two-shoes Disney hero kids. Our baddie Descendants are Mal (purple hair), Evie (blue hair), Jay (really long hair and probably brushes it a hundred times a day to keep it silky smooth), and Carlos (likely to be bleached, extremely likely to be highly styled, spiky hair).
Baddie parents are counting on baddie kids to act the part in their evil scheme to overthrow the goody two-shoes and take over the kingdom (or maybe just the Auradon part or is Auradon the kingdom?!). Will baddie kids be bad or will they save the kingdom by “embracing their innate goodness”. Hmm… “embracing their innate goodness”. I suppose we are in the Wonderful World of Disney. 🧚♂️
I’m not overly sure what happened in this volume other than it being a set up for the grand finale where our baddie heroes decide if they’re more baddie or hero. Other than that there were enough “I need a boyfriend” conversations, makeovers, cheerleaders and insta-love magic style to make me extremely grateful I’m done with high school.
If you loved the movie then you should like this trilogy because, from what I’ve read, it’s a play by play of the movie’s highlight reel. Personally I think I’ll give the rest of this trilogy a miss and will give the movie a very wide berth.
I like my villains to be of the sarcastic, funny, evil variety that is destined to die but they’re going to entertain you until then, like Hans Gruber from Die Hard or Peter Krieg, A.K.A., Simon Gruber (Hans’ brother) from Die Hard with a Vengeance. I want to love my villains, not watch them magically transform into someone we can all look to for moral guidance. If you want your villains to have a lightbulb moment and turn syrupy sweet this may be the story for you.
Thank you so much to NetGalley, TokyoPop and Diamond Book Distributors for the opportunity to read Volume 2 of this Disney Manga trilogy.
+Digital copy gently provided by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review+
The second part of the trilogy based upon the Disney's picture where four teen children of villains that live in exile in the Island of Lost, have the opportunity of go to school at Aralon (where the good characters of the fairytales live). The original idea was stole a magical object to release their parents, but ...
Well, about this book, the manga style of the drawing does very little to help differentiate between the protagonists of the story, and for this it detracts from all the small eccentricities that make the flesh-and-blood version of this youthful fantasy with characters of children of villains an engaging story.
I'm sorry, but it's not what I expected.
Maybe it works as memorabilia, or as collectible. I guess I'm not the adecuate reader for this. (Though, I liked the film)
{¿Cómo terminé haciendo este comentario? Esta es la clase de cosas que me pasan por sindrome de "es gratis , haz clic" , meaculpa; como encontré simpática la pelicula, resulta que al ver esto en Netgalley la descargué, con la consecuencia de que no era para nada lo que pensé que era en un primer momento. Para empezar, esta versión manga es solamente la segunda parte de una trilogia (que es como han dividido la pelicula original de Disney), asi que vi solamente la parte del medio. Se permite reirse ;P}
I have to admit that I actually really like this series. I thought this volume wasn't quite as good as the last but still entertaining and I'm looking forward to the end of the trilogy. I thought this volume was a little slower than the first but we are getting into the meat of the story and setting up for the end so it makes sense. I'll still be looking forward to the finish.
I would like to thank the publisher, author, and Netgalley for providing me with a copy in exchange for an honest review.
I hadn't read the first volume of the Descendants Rotten To The Core Trilogy, but that was not a problem since I had seen the Descendants movie. This book follows along very closely to the movie and it is just as enjoyable. The art throughout this book was amazing. I would definitely recommend this trilogy if you are a fan of Disney as this trilogy follows the path of a few of the children from the famous Disney villains.

3 stars. I havent read book 1 and apparently its also a movie (which Ive only just found out, must be because I live under a [pile of books] rock), but this was still good. I still enjoyed it and I really liked the art work. It would definitely appeal to young readers as the colours are nicely vibrant. Will have to read book 1 and then wait for book 3 to come out.
I'm five and I love Disney's Descendants. I've watched the movies so many times. My mom and I found this book at a local comic book store. Even without reading the first book in the trilogy, we knew what was happening because we've watched the movies. It's a fast read and doesn't have a ton of content, but for fans of the show, this is a pretty decent purchase.
Lonnie pays Mal to change her hair into something cool. Jay joins the team and gets Carlos to join in. Mal gives Bennyboo chocolate chip cookies laced with a love potion and soon after he's singing her name. Chad tries to get Evie in trouble for cheating, but she aces the test. Mal and Ben go out on a date after his girlfriend breaks up with him.

Still super short, for the money I would think they would make these books bigger. The artwork is cute and the story line follows the movie to a T. This goes from Evie meeting Chad to Mal and the lake scene with Ben.
It was good to catch up with the story of the descendants characters again in a new format. This is a manga version of the story of the movie. The drawings are really beautiful and are true to the characters in the movie while staying true to the distinctive manga style.
Disney's Manga Descendants is the manga version of the movie. This was so cute. Loved reading this graphic novel. Definitely worth a read. Thank you so much to NetGalley, TokyoPop and Diamond Book Distributors for the opportunity to read Volume 2 of this Disney Manga.
It was a cute little read but the plot was exactly as the Descendants movie. I would have liked a little more variation in the plot. Very cute drawings though!
Cute artwork. I love Evie in the books as much as I do in the movies. Again, very close to the movie so nothing new added to the story. Another one I wish I had read before seeing the film.
Comic book that is scene for scene and word for word exactly the same as the movie Descendants. So if you haven't seen the movie, or if you don't mind reading exactly what you've seen only in comic book format, go for it!!
I received this book free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
In the second volume of the Rotten to the core trilogy the gang continues their plot to step the fairy godmother's wand. The story line is pretty good and the artwork is beautiful. I'm eager to see how this ends and I think I prefer this manga version better than the movie. Recommended for ages 12& up 4 Stars
WOW. What a sequel! I honestly just loved how this story keeps on getting better and better, the art really makes up for the crappy way the movies tend to portray each character.
I saw this book on NetGalley and thought I would give it a try. I have honestly not seen the movie so I am a bit behind on Disney movies at the moment. But I really enjoyed this book and story line! It was very interesting to see the artwork and how they made each character different and gave such personality even through the drawings. I loved it and now thinking I should watch the movie to see if it as good as this book.
