Dr. Third is a children's picture book written and illustrated by Adam Hargreaves and is a part of the Doctor Who Meets Mr Men and Little Miss series, which tells a story about the Third Doctor on his way to his office from shopping in Bessie, his yellow car, for an important experiment, but is delayed several times. Today is National Dr Who/T.A.R.D.I.S. Day (23 November) and I thought it would be apropos to read this today.
The text is rather simple and straightforward. Hargreaves aptly captured the essence of the Third Doctor's suave and dapper nature fairly well. The illustrations are a perfect combination between the Doctor Who and the Mr Men and Little Miss universes. The Third Doctor depicted really looks like Jon Pertwee from the Mr Men and Little Miss universe.
The premise of the book is rather straightforward. The Third Doctor is in a rush to get back to his office to conduct an important experiment and just when he's about to push the hyperdrive button on his car, Bessie, he is interrupted first by Captain Mike Yates, then Liz Shaw, Joe Grant, and finally the Ice Warriors from Mars. Unfortunately, by the time they reached the Third Doctor's office, the experiment was done for – his ice cream has melted.
All in all, Dr. Third is a wonderful children's book about the Third Doctor and the perfect amalgamation of Dr. Who and the Mr Men and Little Miss universes.
