Jade McClaren is a thief with a mission… and a secret. Jade makes a living stealing magical items from bad guys in magical New York, but she’s no ordinary cat burglar. She’s only half human. The other half is… something else.
But when she steals a magical item from the wrong man, she attracts the attention of powerful enemies as well as the pursuit of the relentless Fae Knight, Davril Stormguard.
To clear her name, Jade must team up with Davril to contend with vampires, demons, witches, and more before what’s happening in post-Fae New York destroys the Fae Lords… and maybe the world itself.

this one was decent, but i found the characters unbelievable and non-relatable, and there was an awful lot of teeth gnashing from the main guy. there were some moments when the characters seemed to change personality or do random things that were weird and kind of annoying. however, this kept me entertained for a while, so that's good!!
thanks to the author and amazon kindle for the free book :)
A nice piece of urban fantasy meshed together with a unique blend of the modern together with elements of the traditional fae. A good action story with a snarling, kicking, feisty heroine. There's plenty to like with the magically inclined, castles on top of skyscrapers, broomsticks and a fae queen complete with her sexy fae guard.
I gave up less than 45% into the book. The heroine only seems to be capable of telling or screaming or falling apart. Her sister gets kidnapped and the emotion in that scene fell so flat because this chick is all over the place. Who gets drunk, watches their sister get kidnapped, gets attacked by 4 people, gets hunted by a fae knight, and then walks in their home to grab another drink? Like getting more drunk is going to solve anything.
In top of the idiotic choices, she has insta lust for her crush. As always, I seriously dislike this in a story because it's a way to get around having to actually write the romance into something believable. It always feels like the author just doesn't want to bother with the effort, and when you see that you also see where the effort is missing elsewhere in the story. A paper thin Cinderella construct with faerie castles and a ball is never satisfying.
Add in thin plot and just as thin characters. It was a stilted and formulaic read, and once again we have a heroine bent on revenge who should be able to defend herself but can't fight her way out of a paper bag without her make counterpart rescuing her. His typical "I am stronger than you so you must do what I say" routine is equally sexist. What bothers me most is that this book isn't billed as a damsel in distress story and it should be. If it had been, I wouldn't have bought it. To be clear, this is not an independent woman surviving and thriving story whatever the summary says. If your tastes mirror mine, skip this one. If your tastes line up with this kind of storyline, and you are ok with a shaky plot, at least in book 1, then read on.
Funny, isn't it, reading fiction. I can believe in otherworldly realms with dragons, shifters, magic and be quite content, as long as the story is good and, you know, believable, coherent, relatable.
But when your friend is killed in a gruesome fashion and your sister is kidnapped, you don't go to parties and ogle at dresses and sigh over masculine jaws and hard abs. You don't leave for tomorrow your sister's rescue. You sharpen your blades, you get your supernatural feelers out, and start collecting favours from sleazy alley imps to get your sis back. Plus payback.
That's what I would do, and I'm not a half dragon shifter like she is.
Fae living atop the city buildings and supernaturals wandering the streets - that's exactly the magical world you will step into. Jade and Ruby are two sisters that make their living by stealing magical items from those who misuse them. On one job, Jade comes across a Golden antler with powerful magical signature and decides to steal it as well - and unleashes total chaos. Hunted and captured by Fae Knight, Davril, she ends up in the palace of the Fae Queen, hired for a desperate job, and a dangerous one - even more so that her own secrets might do more harm than Jade expects. However, facing a powerful foe is not the right time to doubt the trustworthiness of your allies. I really liked the story. The world setup was mesmerizing, and some elements truly breathtaking if you imagined them - Lady Kay belongs to my favorites, by the way. Just who wouldn't wish for such a car? Or Ruby's broomstick? I also loved the plot, developing really quickly and with full of sharp twists, although I was able to guess some of them in advance. I also felt overwhelmed by the amount of descriptions when reading several passages and I was really tempted to skip just to continue the story and move forward faster - and that's the reason why I gave only four stars instead of five. The characters were adorable and I fell for many of them. Ruby is a little mischievous brat, but so adorable, helpful and loyal when it really counts. Jade also seems to have disabled brain/mouth filter sometimes, which only makes some scenes truly hilarious, and I couldn't help but giggle while reading the conversations between her and Queen Calista. The contrast was enormous, and only picturing the situation was entertaining enough. And Darvil as the male lead was spectacular, though I feel there is more to him that we got to know in this book. With all his secrets and burdens of the past, he is still able to show kindness and protect those he really cares about. I read an ARC provided by the author and if possible, I will read the next installment in the future as soon as it will be available.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book, this is the first book I have read by this author and I am so glad that I did!!!! This book is absolutely awesome!!! I am so addicted and I am dying to find out what happens next!!!!
This book is written so so well, it is written in such a way that the quickly gets you hooked and addicted, right from the start you are pulled into this tale, it is the sort of storyline that makes you need to keep turning the pages to find out what mystery is going to be unravelled next! I lived the descriptions of the world that this is based in, how you find out why the world is the way that it is!
It is very clear that the author has put a lot of care and attention as well as love when she created these characters, they are so well thought out and they are definitely relatable to the reader! I loved Jade! She definitely is a fiery personality that has a stubborn streak that I thought was brilliant, especially her sarcastic side. She is extremely loyal and has a huge heart, she will always put her life on the line to protect others, especially those that she cares about! Then we come to Davril… he comes across as very cold and remote at the beginning but you soon see he is so much deeper than that and he hides a wealth of pain and guilt that haunts him everyday. You also soon see how protective he is and passionate he is about what he believes in. I am dying to know more about Ruby and her abilities! Would also love to know more about Calista and Jessela.
I can't recommend this book highly enough, it is amazing!!!! Well deserving of the 5* rating, a must read!!!!!
Alicia Wolf is genius... I loved reading Dragon Shadow. I was pulled in from the first page... The main character is Jade McClaren who is 1/2 human and 1/2 somethings else and her sister Ruth who is full Witch. I love Jade's attitude when it comes to a certain handsome Fae Lord and Knight to the Queen. While reading I found lots of action with the turn of every page and lots of sarcasm with a lot of snarkiness from certain characters... of which I loved. The setting is in a New York but on top of the High skyscrapers you will find the Fae Palaces... Quite creative I thought and very beautiful I might add... If you are wondering what the palaces look like... you need to read Dragon Shadow... I did and loved it... You will discover a whole new world where Jade and Ruth live in.. And it is full of magic from both the witch and Fae ... so much that when you are done readireading you will want more... I can not to see what lies in the future for Jade and friend in the next book.
I thought the blurb on this book sounded intriguing, and I was excited to read it. I didn’t get my hope up too high as I’ve been burned a little in the past with the book not being quite as good as the blurb seemed it would be. I needn’t have worried; this book was excellent! Jade is a wonderful protagonist who wants to rescue her sister Ruby however she can. She was full of fire and life, and she made an interesting foil for Davril, a fae Knight, the one who is also after the item that will bring back Jade’s sister. Everything in the book was easy to follow, I found the world to be extremely interesting, and I really liked all the characters. The author wove a well-written, action-filled, and hard-to-put-down book, and I for one can’t wait to read the next one in the series. Highly recommend! Thanks to the author for the e-book which I reviewed voluntarily.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. It's a fun little book, just the right length to be enjoyable as a romp through urban-fantasy land. The characters are interesting, but not very deep. It didn't have time to really develop the characters yet or to really make me care about them. There's just enough to keep my interest though. The main character is a firey (pun intended) chicka who is on a mission to take the baddies down a notch, and maybe get her fire back one day. She gets into some dangerously fun situations and works with the fae to solve the main problem and rescue her kidnapped sister. The audio narration was great, good voices and pacing. The book is set up for an interesting series with the big bad spanning multiple books. This one set up a new partnership in our main character's life Final verdict: Fun urban fantasy, but not too deep.
A great new urban fantasy series that centers around Fae and magic. I absolutely loved the story and got sucked in from the very first page. There was plenty of action, adventure, romantic tension, and just kick butt fun! I enjoyed the characters and can't wait to discover more about them. I can't wait to read the next book! I voluntarily reviewed an arc from the author.
I could not get through with this book it just didn’t capture my attention. I felt like I just kept putting the book down and forcing myself to try picking the book up to get through it. I just didn’t feel a connection between the two main characters and it could’ve been epic, if it was written better. As it was I couldn’t get through it so I guess I’ll never know.
Many years ago the Fae came to the human world and subsequently that world changed. Jade McClaren and her sister Ruby make their living stealing magical items from bad guys in New York and ensuring they are sold on to good people only. However Jade is not just human – she is also a half shifter. During one of those thefts she attracts the attention of both a number of bad people and one of the Fae-Knights (Davril Stormguard). Davril is currently on a mission to get to the bottom of something which could destroy the Fae-Lord (and maybe the world as we know it). Jade might know the secret to stopping it, but she wants nothing to do with him as he is basically the same as a cop (especially as he handcuffs her and then puts her in prison). However she has a problem – she needs to work with him so she can saver her sister and hopefully clear her own name at the same time. During this they will encounter demons, vampires, witches and worse things – can they learn to trust each other and save everyone?
WOW – LOVED this story. It was full on action throughout the story interspersed with more tender moments where emotions were more involved. The magical elements were well described and felt that they were necessary in the story and were relevant and not just there for the hell of it. Everything was well written and clear and easy to understand and feel. The trust between them were well written and it was nice to see it build, then because it was still fragile have a few hiccups, then build again (very much like real life). Now I need for the author to write the next instalment in the story as I want to know both what happens in the story AND what happens next between Jade and Davril – surely they will become romantically involved at some point in the future (please!!).
If I could some up this book in a few words it would be *Heavy Sigh.* It had such promise. I really like the plot but honestly. That's about it. 62% of the way in according to my Kindle I just can't handle it anymore and had to drop.
Let's start with the most offensive: Jade Dear lord, this character is supposed to 24. This is supposed to be a new adult novel. So why does she react like she's 14 instead?? Most of her dialogue could be ripped straight from an angsty teen's mouth who just discovered My Chemical Romance for the first time (No Hate, I love MCR and used to be one of those teens) but she's 24. She should have more maturity than that. I'd also like to add here that Davril was okay. But he also didn't really have a personality.
The Writing If I had a nickel for every time I rolled my eyes or found a typo in this book I'd be at least $20 richer. I found several BLANTANT typos. Two of the most memorable being "Rudy" instead of "Ruby" and "The Post Important" instead of "The Most Important."
Aside from typos which, honestly I can mostly ignore, the writing was how can I word it. Childish? Amateur? Neither of those quite fit it. But it's not vibrant. There's lots of exposition via character dialogue and it's so obvious in it's attempts at foreshadowing. There's a lot of repeat information just paragraphs after seeing the information the first time and reads more like "I did this. Then I did this. Then he did that."
I wanted to like this story. It has a lot of my favorite tropes. Steamy fantasy with people in 20s is Right Up My Alley. That's part of why I didn't drop this sooner. But I just can't. /sigh
I was being hunted by a Fae Knight. I told you, Jade. You’re coming with me. Damn it all, just what had I gotten myself into? What in the everlasting?!? I have to say that this is one fantastic book! I don't often read urban fantasy, but I am BEYOND happy that I read this one! I was blown away by just how creative, unique, funny, the witty dialogue and exceptionally well-written this story is! It's highly entertaining, captivating and completely drew me in with the great world building, the numerous different "species" from humans to Fae, shifters, witches and more! I absolutely loved just how creative ALL OF IT IS from the different magics, the amazing Lady Kay, the creatures, New York, the histories, it is ALL MAGICTACULAR!!! The multifaceted characters are super easy to connect with, to become them, to live the story with & as them, and I loved becoming Jade! This may be her debut book, but it sure doesn't read like one! Alicia Wolfe is an exceptionally talented author and I CANNOT WAIT to read more!!
I really wanted to like this book. The premise was interesting, and I was sure this was going to fill in the wait for the next Ilona Andrews book, but... This book was all over the place. The main character's emotions and decisions just didn't make sense to me - when your sister's been kidnapped and your friend killed, this is really not the time for insta-lust. And Davril... I wanted to like him, but I found myself rolling my eyes when the reveal about his "past" comes, because of course he's a fucking It's really sad, because the world has so much potential. I kept thinking that I could have done a much better job writing this story.
2 star is the best I can give for this book. Story is good but nothing else. Characters development wrong. Story telling not good. Decision by character does not make sence. Lead roles keep forgetting what the are doing. Author forget personality of lead roles which leads to uncharacteristic behaviour.
I am no author and English is my sixth language, still I feel I could do better.
(FYI I tend to only review one book per series, unless I change my mind on a series, so want to change my scoring by more than 0.50 of a star. -- I tend not to read reviews until after I read a book, so I go in with an open mind.)
DNF ---- Quit at page 81.
Interesting world, premise had merit, the execution lost me.
The characters just kept bugging me, just little things but they were enough together to mark the book down.
Did I get another paranormal romance, pretending to be urban fantasy?
I've got a mountain of books TBR, so I'm done.
First time read the author's work?: Yes
Will you be reading more?: No
Would you recommend?: No
------------ How I rate Stars: 5* = I loved (must read all I can find by the author) 4* = I really enjoyed (got to read all the series and try other books by the author). 3* = I enjoyed (I will continue to read the series) or 3* = Good book just not my thing (I realised I don't like the genre or picked up a kids book to review in error.)
All of the above scores means I would recommend them! - 2* = it was okay (I might give the next book in the series a try, to see if that was better IMHO.) 1* = Disliked
Note: adding these basic 'reviews' after finding out that some people see the stars differently than I do - hoping this clarifies how I feel about the book. :-)
I really liked how this series started out. I really like when fantasy/pnr has a mystery element to it, what can I say I like solving “crime” with a side of supernatural with it. We start out with Jade and Ruby, thieves who steal for good, Jade takes something she shouldn’t have and then all kinds of crazy rains down on her. Now she’s teamed up with basically a Fae cop, she’s secretly has to save his kidnapped sister, find the guy who stole her dragon powers, and figuring out what’s trying to start a war with the Fae. Needless to say she’s got a lot on her to do list. I really liked Jade, she has her own code, but she’s also just a really good person. I mean sure, she steals, but she only steals from bad guys, very Robin Hood like. I love how she never runs from a fight, but instead just charges in trying to help people, even when she doesn’t know them. She is paired up with Davril, the guy who arrested her, and is now the guy she needs to find a way to save her sister. Davril is an interesting guy, he has a tragic past, and he seems to carry the weight of the world on his shoulders, but there are some moments I want to just shake the guy, I mean he really only sees things in black and white, no grey. I really liked the story of how the Fae came into the world, and the description of what New York looks like now (the image of all the flying cars and Pegasi had me flash to the movie the Fifth Element and Bruce Willis terrible cab driving). I’m super excited to see how this story progress and what happens with Jade and Davril next.
I really enjoyed Dragon Shadow. I can't wait for the next book in the series. I loved Jade and Davril together. They make an excellent team. Jade is strong, loyal, good hearted and very spunky. I liked how even when things seemed impossible or it felt like no one was on her side that she'd give herself a pep talk and keep going. She wasn't whiny or a quitter. Davril is strong, loyal and determined. He's also a by the book kind of guy, who can be a bit moody at times. When Davril is paired up with Jade to reclaim a powerful artifact from evil forces he isn't too happy but the more time he spends with Jade his walls start to come down. Jade brings out a side of Davril that has long been buried beneath an enormous amount of grief and pain. Too stubborn to admit their growing feelings for each other they remain friends and partners for now, maybe one day it will be more? Combining their strengths and knowledge they are a formidable team. A team that just might have a chance at saving not only the human world but the Fae world as well.
I was unsure at first about this book but I am glad I decided to read it, I noticed it keep popping up in my recommended list and finally sat down to see if it was any good. Jade was an amazing main character she was tough yet also showed he unsure side I understood her reasoning behind committing her crimes the story starts off with a bang and it took a few chapters before I really was invested in Jade and Davril. I really like the Fae Queen usually stories place this character a mean and unfeeling however or downright evil I liked a new spin that this author put on this character she made her relatable. I though Davril was good for Jade and I hope they can overcome their differences I would like to see how that relationship will play out. I would have liked more world building outside of the Fae castles and more about the other supernaturals that live in this world as well as the humans. I think this was a wonderful start to an amazing series you will not be disappointed in it I can not wait until the next one is out.
Book: Dragon Shadow Read By: Ebook Author: Alicia Wolfe Genre: Fantasy Romance Recommend: Yes Spice:🌶️️ < b>Age recommendation: 18-30+ Years My feelings:
I grabbed this on stuff your Kindle day. It was decent. But not super exciting. I found it filled a void between books that I needed to fill.
I held up my hands, palms out. “Hey, I never robbed any graves.” Because I never knew about places like this! The tombs in here were probably worth a goldmine. Hell, two or three goldmines. It was all I could do not to rub my hands together greedily.
I struggled with the MCS, I found the girl was ok, but the male did a lot of teeth gnashing. It annoyed me. I wanted more from the main MCS and needed them to have some sort of chemistry. I didn't get this.
“You guys really need to look into elections or something. A blood lineage isn’t always the way to go.” “It would appear not,” Davril said. “That’s treason,” Greenleaf said, but he didn’t sound as if he disagreed.
All in all, it was ok.

"Dragon Shadow" by Alicia Wolfe is a riveting, breath of fresh air. The descriptions are mind blowing and off the charts. The chemistry between Jade and Davril hit the spot for me, making me curious about their relationship (friendship or otherwise) as I kept reading. I'm not all that into book series, but this book is opening a new door for me. It's got me wanting to plan out and craft out a lengthy, well written novel, mostly focusing on worldbuilding.
It's a new adult fantasy book, but as far as I'm concerned, it's my new favorite book—as of late. I also love Jade's relationship with her sister; Ruby. She would go to great lengths for her sister and I'm familiar with the feeling with siblings of my own. Jade McClaren is relatable in so many ways, personality and all. I will keep am eye out for the others books by author Alicia Wolfe.
"Dragon Shadow" is a strong ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for me. I was stuck in a reading rut until I began to viciously devour this novel. I heavily recommend it. I even highlighted a few parts that piqued my interest which is something I hardly do.

I really liked Jade as a characters, she;s so spunky and determined and while she's a thief, she has a strong moral compass - a bit of a Robin Hood. Her interactions with Davril left me laughing, I'm hoping that this develops further in the next book.
Some great twists made for a thrilling story that had me spellbound and unable to stop listening.
The mixing of the Fae and the modern world and magic is really interesting and I thought it was done well.
The narration was good, but there were mistakes that weren't edited out, generally just a few words that repeated twice, but this happened a lot and was a bit jarring. The character voices were mostly good, however occasionally something would be said in the wrong voice. The overall delivery was excellent, good phrasing and a smooth flow.
I received a free copy of this book from the author and/or narrator and/or publisher and I voluntarily wrote this honest review.
This wasn’t too bad but it was very similar to other urban fantasies I’ve read lately and nothing really stood out.
Heroine is a partial dragon shifter whose fire was stolen and when her dad was murdered and now she’s stuck in human form. Her sister is a witch. They steal magical objects for a living. When they steal the wrong thing, her sister is kidnapped for leverage and motivation to make the heroine work with them. A hot fae Knight takes her captive and they work together and he doesn’t know she’s going to have to double cross him. Feeling develop and there is angst. Sometimes they trust each other, sometimes they don’t.
Eh. I’ll forget the majority of this plot by next month. There wasn’t a lot of humor to make it stand out. Utterly ordinary.
If you’re looking for a fae/dragon fantasy this one is free on kindle unlimited. Just because it didn’t work for me doesn’t mean it won’t for you. I’d recommend it for someone who hasn’t read a lot of urban fantasy.
The writing style with its short sentences, easy language, modern slang, profanity, and cultural references will most likely appeal to high school or college readers seeking a quick mental escape. The story has a few unique setting ideas, but it is full of typical supernatural creatures, quick herky-jerky battles, and familiar magic.
The main characters are fairly good company, but their conflict with each other is too forced. The possible romance is merely physical admiration and shared adventures by the end of the first book in this series. The bigger plot complication is not original or emotionally compelling (to me), so I don’t think I’ll read beyond this book. The secondary characters lack depth and dimension. They are very stereotypical.
I could see this book plotted in script form for a graphic novel or animated show.
I wasn't sure what to expect from reading the blurb but I was hopeful the book was as good as it sounded. It was.
The main character Jade is a thief of magical items, stealing from those using them with bad intent, her clients are those who are the victims of those bad intentions. She is a strong willed character with attitude and sass. Davril, a handsome fae knight is tasked with arresting her sexy ass for stealing a fae magical item. From the get go it's a question of will they won't they, the attraction is obviously there. Can they save the Fae queen from the attempts to her life.
Fast paced story, good writing, likeable characters and supernatural beings galore. What's not to love.
Fast paced and filled with magic! This modern take on urban fantasy keeps you running alongside the main characters.
In a world where the Fae have appeared, exposing magic to all human kind, and are making it clear they intent to stay, Jade is a half shifter and a thief. She and her sister steal from people who abuse the power of magical artefacts to prey on those weaker than themselves. Most of the time, it is honourable theft.
When Jade's sticky fingers get her in trouble with the equivalent of the Fae police, and get her sister kidnapped, she has no choice to work for the enemy. The Fae Knight, whose most defining traits are tall, blonde and broody, seems to have more to him than she initially suspected.
First, let me say that I received an advice copy of this book to leave a review. Second, I only leave a truthful review of my reading. So, with that said, this was my first time reading this author & it won't be my last.
OMG!!! This story grabbed on tight and didn't release me. I couldn't put it down. I love Jade, was & is perfect. She got screwed over in her life, yet she never whined about it. I love Lord Davril Stormguard, he's hot & exciting. There are many others in this story that touched me in many places. I look forward to many more stories from Ms. Wolfe. I recommend this read, most definitely. 5 Thumbs up.
