Isabelle Stiffarm is going home. With one bag full of clothes, one heart full of regret, and one failed relationship under her belt, she vows to never seek love on-line again. Sure her ego took a beating, but it was nothing compared to what her on-line love did to her body. Refusing to become broken by the abuse she’s endured, Isabelle is determined to get back to Montana and get back to living. Hitching home, chance intervenes both figuratively and literally. A winter storm coupled with road closures leaves her holed up in a quaint cabin with what she at first thinks is a snarly loner. Sexy as sin, Chance, treats Isabelle better than any man ever has. He may be a loner, but he’s also a caretaker and his attention and compassion have Isabelle struggling to remember why she’s sworn off men.
Predator hunter and shifter, Chance Howlett, doesn’t have it in him to ignore the shivering female hitchhiking on the highway in the midst of a Montana blizzard. Reluctantly, he picks her up and instantly knows something is off. His inner beast is raging at him to care for her, but he can’t get attached. Isabelle’s going home and he has no intentions of stopping her.
When Isabelle’s ex-boyfriend comes for her, Chance makes a decision that leaves him having to do something he’s never done. He has to tell a human what he really is and hope that Isabelle won’t run like everyone else.
WARNING: This book contains an explicit rape scene that may not be suitable for all readers. Reader discretion is advised.

My pack territory is in Central Montana, between Stone Crow Estates and the North Fortress. Born and raised in an untamed location that bridges the gap between rolling prairies and majestic mountain peaks, I am born to a family that also bridges the gap between cultures. My father’s people boast a fiercely proud Scandinavian ancestry while my mother’s tribes descend from two savagely beautiful and unique nations (White Clay and Nakoda) that inspire my Skin Walker series.

I'm a huge fan of MMA, boxing, 30 Seconds to Mars, DMX, Nahko and Medicine for the People, and 21 Pilots (“…sometimes quiet is violent”). I also love to read because it encourages me to write. (I hate it when authors add that they love coffee and chocolate. Really? Who doesn't love coffee and chocolate?) Anyway, I love beer...kidding. I don't love beer but we are engaged in a very serious relationship. (Mom, please don't call me when you read this.)

Please leave feedback….well, only if it’s positive. “Keep in mind that I’m an artist and I’m sensitive about my shit!  (Erykah Badu lyrics!)

This book is different than some of her other books, she writes about rape and abuse. There was a warning in the front of the book of this, but I decided to go ahead and buy and read the book. That if was too graphic I would stop. But I read the complete book. The scenes are heart breaking and sad. There has been so many books in the past that hinted at these circumstances but didn't go into detail. We read about it and was not " in our face". But I felt it was part of the story and made Isabelle be strong, to grow. Chance stood by her, protected her. I enjoyed the book and would ad it again and other books she writes.

This was a good read until.... (SPOILERS!)

I love a good shifter novel and this was shaping up to be a typical, heartwarming HEA read but the one thing that got to me was the graphic descriptions of the tape and violence the heroine endured at the hands of the man she was trying to run away from. It was disturbing beyond measure and ruined the flow of the book. I think it would have been much more tasteful to allude to it rather than give us the full, excruciating detail. Other than that, I actually WOULD recommend this book to someone who is not sensitive to themes of rape, buggery and violence against women.

This was more like a 3.75 for me. I’m not really sure how to review it. I liked it, I cried, felt a little sick, but ultimately I did like it. Isabelle was very like able to me. Loved chance. Heed the warnings, abuse and rape are in here. I knew going in and I think it would’ve been much worse for me if I didn’t know.
Isabelle is trying to get home after running from an abusive boyfriend. Unfortunately it’s winter, in Montana and she’s out walking a road in the snow when Chance finds her. Chance is a shifter, used to being on his own. He’s a good man, and just wants to help her. She just didn’t realize how much he’d end up helping her. A little short, but again I liked it.

I'm sorry but that rape scene was totally unnecessary.

I did read the content warning in the blurb but I didn't think it would be that long of a scene. I thought it would be just 1-2 pages max, but fucking hell, it was almost three chapters of that shit. It made me think that the author wrote this book just to write that rape scene. Because honestly, that scene was even longer than what we got with the main couple.

The only reason I even finished this book was because of the FMC. I wanted her to have a happy ending but unfortunately, the ending was also fucking underwhelming.

This book was artfully crafted and uniquely designed to pull you into the pages where secrets and fairytales live and dreams come true for those who believe!

This book was enchanting, enthralling and endlessly entertaining where stubbornness and determination to rise above conflict with a core of steel to get to where love and happiness lives!

2 1/2 stars. Even though there was a rape scene, it seemed somewhat detached so that while awful, isn't as bad as it might be and can be easily skipped. While there are emotional repercussions that is not the focus of this book. And there is a happy ending.

Other than that, the book isn't outstanding or bad. It's average. Unfortunately, other than a wolverine shifter which is different, I don't know how much I will remember this story in a couple of years.

Thx for the Warning & Warm Hearted Story

Wow, so wasn’t expecting a brutal tell, but it recovered well, and we got the true justice we only read about in books! Chance and Belle’s story seemed more about deeper things; loneliness, longing, reciprocation, and the dangers of ignoring red flags. Self love was the catalyst for recognizing a good mate and getting that happy ending. I enjoyed this perspective.

Chance a can't put down choice.

I was just read till I fell asleep and should have known I could not stop until I read the last page. I know Ms boiler can usually keep me up all night reading but she got my nap today and I have things to do and she got that time to. I recommend anything she writes as great reading.

Very Emotional

An abused woman runs to her family. A special but cantankerous man gives her a lift. This book had sensitive scenes that can easily be fast forwarded through for anyone who has rape triggers. The ending of the story was fantastic.

Trauma doesn’t stop love

Our main character goes through so much but our hero is chivalrous as hell! He’s a fighter and he fights for her.
This has abuse in the novel. Be wary if this is off putting.

Chance

I was so mad when her ex came for her and hurt her. I was cussing because I understand it's because of her aunt why she didn't fight back. I don't see how Chance didn't realize she was his from they felt so drawn to each other.

I was in the mood for a shifter romance and this was recommended. This book had so much promise but it fell short for me. There were parts of it that really needed to be fleshed out in my opinion.

Really enjoyed

A great book. I’m a not a big fan of the rape scene. It felt like it didn’t need to go on like it did... maybe offer more of a warning at the beginning???
Besides that I enjoyed it!

Really great read.

I will give a trigger warning as there was a r.a.p.e. Seen that was very hard for me to read. I felt awful for the heroine but it was handled well by the author. The H saved her and protected her after. It was very endearing.

Only if you like tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches. This book had all the elements that a longer book would have. The cover doesn't match the story. There are elements and situations that are disturbing.

You rock Susan!

I didn't see the plot twist coming. Life isn't all pretty roses, and sometimes you suffer and come out stronger.

Was ok

For me this story was just ok. Usually all the stories by Susan Bliler are great but this one even with warning was way too explicit for me
