Written over 1.5 years, chapter by chapter every fortnight and published online, Oscar is the first, highly charged prequel to Ladd’s series and finalist in the 2017 Rainbow Awards, Oscar Down Under.

Set in a not-so-distant past, in the final year of an all-boys high school in a small English town, this dark, contemporary erotic tale introduces Oscar, an eighteen-year-old publicly outed, shunned by his peers, abandoned by his mother and psychologically abused by his father.

However, as the cruel weeks pass, Oscar soon discovers that there are plenty of testosterone-fueled perks to being the only openly gay guy in school, even if he’d had no choice in the matter. Especially when Adam Stanmore, rugby captain and king of the playground, pops up on his MSN messenger.

As Oscar sets about a plan for revenge, refusing to let his tormentors get the better of him, the walls he builds not only protect they isolate him. Further and further he cuts himself off from the world in a bid to stay strong, but at what cost?

Based on true events, Oscar is an extremely graphic articulation of a generation growing up in a sexualised society. But with such a need and yearning for physical intimacy to allow him to feel anything at all, does he have any hope in love? And will he ever truly understand what it is?

Im not quite sure what i think about this book. I never think its ok to hurt someone for being gay.so for Oscar getting beat up wasnt cool but I feel like everything else, at least boy wise, was he own fault. He manipulated people and lied to them and then more or less wondered why he was alone. It was kind of a sad story to me. And hearing these stories were based on truth kinda bothers me. It's not a good life to lead.

This book is about the journey of a young, frustrated gay 18 year old who was caught with another man and tortured at school for it.
This bullying and home related issues turns Oscar into a sexually frustrated, manipulative psycho.

Through the book you’ll learn to understand why Oscar did what he did - you’ll see through the facade he puts on with Adam, James and Mr Price, you’ll see that really all he wants is to be happy and free.

The book itself is a fantastic read. Gripping, sexual and at times emotional. You’ll see yourself really connect with Oscar (Especially if you can relate to his situation).
I’d recommend this book to anyone, Well done!

Mmhh, what is there to say? This is the story of Oscar, age 18, full of testosterone. Left from his mother, rejected by his father.
His whole life consists of lies and manipulating...and sex. Lots of sex.
Well written, but no real ending. To be continued.
What happened to him playing the piano? Or was this a lie, too? I think sometimes he himself has problems to make a difference between his lies and the truth.

Wow. Not what I was expecting at all, but, this has got to be one of the best contemporary erotic novels I've read in a long - pardon my french - ass time.

Firstly, yes, this is highly charged, dark and very graphic, but Oscar is eighteen. Yes he's lonely and isolated but he's also full of testosterone and you can't deny this has been portrayed excellently throughout. You also can't help but dislike Oscar, yet at the same time, fall in love with him and root for him. This complex character development was really impressive.

I think for me what really seals the deal is it feels that Ladd has been through these emotions, or at least knows people who have. He writes the kind of m/m I like - written by a man who loves men. Nothing wrong AT ALL with female m/m writers, btw, but there's something special about an author who's actually done it, ya know?

Can't recommend enough - although without a HE/HFN this book might not be for everyone.
