Brilliant, but plain scientist Becca Evans has always done everything she could to make her beautiful sister, Grace, happy. So, when Grace started entering beauty contests, Becca did everything she could to make sure her sister won.
Now, she’s looking at another pageant—at a resort in the Caribbean. The prize? A date with America’s most eligible bachelor, Calum Price. For Grace, it would be the ultimate coup—landing a billionaire. Unfortunately, Calum seems to like Becca better...
Still, she’s determined to help her sister win. Calum doesn’t have to know that she’s the brains behind the beauty, the voice behind the veil, the finger behind the sexting...
But when things go too far, Becca must decide where her loyalty lies—with her sister...or the man she’s falling in love with.
Let the games begin.
Each book in the Tropical Temptation series is a standalone story that can be enjoyed out of order. Series #1 Bonding GamesBook #2 Secret GamesBook #3 Bachelor Games
The quiet, unnoticed geek amongst a bevy of gorgeous women catching the eye of the hot billionaire sounds like a story I can dig, especially since it feels like it might have some shadow of the Cyrano de Begerac effect here.
However, I didn’t quite expect ‘Bachelor Games’ to become a ‘forced’ love triangle type story of the female protagonist’s own making, as her altruistic but misplaced idea of family loyalty resolutely determines that her sister should get the good things (as well as the hot guy) because she happens to be the more good-looking one. It is exactly what Becca Evans does, which pretty much tanked the story for me.
To begin with, I didn’t find Calum’s and Becca’s first meeting realistic at all, let alone that banter and teasing one might carry out with a stranger on a plane, but this may be my awkward, distant and sceptical self speaking here. But that someone with poise and beauty like Grace would need Becca’s coaching seemed ludicrous and the artlessness of her behaviour during the pageant as a result of that came across as stilted and naive instead of endearing.
To add to that, Becca’s rather stilted ‘I like you but you’re better for my sister because no one really looks at me’ type of reasoning got me annoyed instead of sympathetic—aren’t we past this self-esteem business already? I wished she would simply own her attraction to Calum, rather than remain indecisive about them while seemingly being unable to help herself but end up in bed with him and then lie to her sister about it. Grace, on the other hand, had made no explicit mention of her desire for Calum, so Becca’s unfounded guilt felt like a mountain made of a molehill that sorely tested my patience and made me give up halfway.
Sadly, ‘Bachelor Games’ isn’t a story that clicked for me, especially with a heroine that rubbed me the wrong way every time. But as I’ve said numerous times before, personal tastes are just that—personal. This probably has a premise that would appeal to those who root for the underdog no matter what the circumstances are, so give it a whirl because Becca’s character could be read in a multitude of ways that I simply couldn’t, as other reviewers have already pointed out.
Received an ARC for my fair review for netgalley. This book was cute. Becca was the smart sister, she was often overlooked when in the company of her gorgeous sister Grace. It had never bothered her, in fact she made it her job to assist Grace in winning pageants, she also protected Grace by helping her getting rid of her loser boyfriends. Now on their next mission to win their next pageant, they come in contact with billionaire Calum Price, and after a disastrous first impression he and Becca start getting cozy and can't help their attraction to each other and eventually begin an affair that they have to keep under wraps from everyone, and it blows up in their face. You have to read this, you have to read about the villain, how they react to it, and how they get back at them and what they do after!
This was an odd one. I couldn’t quite work out whether this book wanted to be funny or sexy. It’s perfectly possible to be both, yet this one somehow managed to be neither. I wasn’t particularly convinced by the chemistry between Becca and Calum, especially at first. When they originally meet Becca is plain annoying, while Calum seems to think sexual banter is the best way to go forward when trying to distract a complete stranger. It felt forced and not particularly sexy.
Things on the island are a little better, in that Calum and Becca seem to have more chemistry, although I never quite bought the idea of them in a relationship. However all that D/s stuff was nonsense. Becca tells Calum to dominate her, then bosses him about. He’s supposed to love being in control in the bedroom, but he let’s her get away with everything. Complete rubbish. Either do it properly or just have them messing around and giving it a go before finding that Becca is not in the least bit submissive.
Also, when it comes to sex, this book tends to take things only so far before jumping ahead to the next day, leaving the more x-rated stuff off scene. Are you a sexy Brazen read or not? Fake BDSM does not count.
Then there’s the contest, which is… awful. Run by a misogynist and full of nasty, 2D competitors who haven’t a single personality between them. Seriously, the women were barely even given names, let alone redeeming qualities, they’re just mean girl props to make Grace – and therefore Becca’s amazing coaching – look totally wonderful. I did like Becca’s sister Grace, and I liked their relationship, even if I found it hard to believe Grace could be that sweet and naive, while Becca was so smart and worldly. Meh.
As for the ending. Despite not being impressed by Calum’s foolish attempts to be a white knight (just tell her), there is a nice triumphant moment, although I would have preferred it to come with police charges, but the very end was over-the-top saccharine. This book is about forbidden sex, a non-existent love triangle and a horrible, exploitative reality show, then it tries to be all sweet and cuddly at the end. No. Just no.
So, in all, sorry but this one just didn’t work for me.
Becca Evans has always been labeled the plain sister. Her half-sister, Grace, has continually been the one in the spotlight; her trusting nature having landed her in a lot of trouble – mostly bad relationships with nasty guys. Consequently, Becca has morphed into protector and goes everywhere with Grace, always looking out for her. But Becca needs Grace to win the reality show they are on so she can get the prize money. Becca has an offer at a University and she doesn’t want to miss the opportunity at her dream job. When she ends up sitting next to Mr. Bachelor himself, she has to find out if he’s good enough for her sister. Additional recon won’t hurt her cause in helping her sister win the competition either. What blind-sides her is the crazy attraction she feels toward him.
Callum Price is not much of a willing participant in this farce of a reality show. His only reason for going along with the plan, is because he wants to take over the majority stock and buy up the island as an investment. When Becca lands in the seat next to him, he is annoyed by her questions, but ends up loosening up toward her – just as she too starts to loosen up after each mimosa she drinks. Before too long, he’s finding himself intrigued with the highly intelligent woman. She doesn’t take his crap and insults him right back. He’s used to people groveling – comes with the territory as a Billionaire – but Becca doesn’t seem to give a crap about his money. She challenges him and sparks his interest. Before too long, Callum is having some pretty scandalous thoughts regarding Ms. Evans. This reality show just might be fun after all.
Holy Moly! This is quite a descriptive book with crazy hot, sinfully stimulating scenes. The attraction between Callum and Becca is undeniable. I love when two people, who normally wouldn’t get together, end up in an unexpected relationship simply because fate stepped in and pushed them together. Sappy. Love it! I enjoyed learning about Callum and his background. He’s not all you’d expect from a Billionaire Playboy – he still remembers where he came from and while his drive to succeed is fierce, he doesn’t let his status change who he is. Becca is similar in the respect that she’s a freaking genius. While she could show off her talent, she keeps to herself and always lets her sister shine, but staying in the background also doubles as a protection mechanism. Before too long, her past comes back to threaten her future and Callum has to decide if the risk of her reputation being slung through the mud is worth their relationship. Not ready to label what it could be, they both struggle to come to terms with their feelings. Both Callum and Becca were a joy to spend time with. And that crazy hot sex? It was exactly that with little bits of light BDSM thrown in. I didn’t really care for any of the secondary characters except Grace and another, later revealed as familial. He seems like he might have had an interesting story to explore. Grace, however, was a lot of fun. She is the ditzy, blonde sister, but is gifted with some great lines. If I had a half-sister, I’d want it to be Grace; exasperating qualities and all. I often wondered if we would discover that Grace was just as brilliant as Becca, but let her looks do the talking. Instead because she loves the attention. Sadly, that was not the case, but her character was just as entertaining. My only criticism was that, when a big jerk finally gets what he deserves, I felt like it was over too quick and could have been raked over the coals much longer. This is a first read by Ms. St. Denis and if this book is an adequate representation of her common writing style, it definitely won’t be my last. I found this book a quick read, entertaining, and erotic. But then, I’ve always had a soft spot for the genius wallflower who gets the guy. 😊
Kindle version provided by NetGalley/Entangled in exchange for an honest review.
Becca’s sister Grace was a contestant in the Miss Temptation Pageant .This was the pageant to end all pageants - a mash up between Miss America, and the Bachelor, and Survivor. It was to be Grace's big break.Becca was Grace’s twin but the plain very smart one. Becca runs into Calum as she os getting ready to get on the plane and he is a little rude. Calum was the youngest billionaire and most eligible bachelor according to a magazine Grace had. Calum was the only judge for the contest. - part of the the prize was a paid trip to Paris with Calum. P;us there was also a hundred thousand dollar cash prize plus being a contestant in such a big production. Grace had been doing pageants for twelve years with Becca help for ever pageant. Becca has been taking care of her older sister since they were kids. First it had been bullies then loser boyfriends. Grace was a serial; dater but also naive and had a lot of sex and it was her favorite pastime yet Grace was naive and the guys she dated were losers for the most part. Becca was the plain smart sister and Grace was blonde and gorgeous.Becca had her graduate degree in astrophysics and she had been offered a research position in the Physics department at Cornell University. It was Becca’s dream position. So Becca was planning to move to NYC where as Grace should head out to LA to be successful. But Grace had never been on her own and this worried Becca. While on the plane Becca ended up going into first class and was sitting next to Calum and to learn everything she could about him in the next six hours. she was determined. To her surprise Becca wanted Calum. Then Calum and Becca made a bet- after Becca had a lot to drink as she hated to fly- if she lost she was to join the mile high club and have sex in the bathroom. Becca felt as Calum went it wasn’t fair that he had so many gifts. Becca felt the chemistry for Calum get stronger as time went on. It had been over a year since Becca has sex. At seventeen Calum had graduates from Harvard Business School. Calum and some friends started a small business together buying and flipping houses. They were so successful They were so successful they got into developing condo complexes before partnering with other developers in planning new communities. Once landing Calum was told they had to get rid of some of the girls soon. Fifty was too many. Also there was a meet and greet that night. Then Calum went to his Villa and showered then Jeffery Reid showed up he was the CEO of the resort. But right now Jeffery only knew Calum was a new investor to the resort. When Jeffrey was giving Calum a tour of the resort's grounds he seen Becca and got off the golf cart and he walked down to the beach where Becca was collecting shells. Then they both got knocked over by a wave and Calum ended up over her body to body then he carried Becca to higher ground and kissed her. Just as Calum was ending the kiss Kevyn yelled to Calum. Kevyn was the bane of Becca’s HS existence. Then Kevyn asked who the woman was and Calum said no one and Becca thought HS all over again. Kevyn was the only male who had ever come close to destroying her. I didn’t particularly like this book. I didn’t like how Becca and Calum interacted in the beginning. Once falling in love with Calum why would Becca be willing to hand Calum over to her sister Grace? Was it just so Becca could go to Cornell and not feel guilty or responsible for Grace anymore? I don’t see why Grace can’t run her own life she was the older sister after all. I think Grace liked Becca taking care of everything for her It didn't ring realistic in anyway to me I know this is a book but still….I like things to be a little believable at least. I like that Calum had overlooked how annoying Becca had been on the plane and also how her looks weren’t that important to him he felt she was good looking But all and all I was very disappointed with this book.
Becca Evans is a sister that would do anything for those she loves, so helping Grace achieve her best in the beauty contests/pageants she enters hasn't been a hard ship. But with her latest contest having the prize of a date with Calum Price, America's most eligible bachelor, Becca's not sure how she can help Grace win when she wants the prize all to herself. However, when things become complicated and Becca finds her loyalty being tested, will Becca choose her sister over the man she's coming to love or will she finally realize that love and happiness is worth fighting for?
There was a lot to like about this story, but the heroine's altruism when it came to pushing for happiness between her sister and Calum just annoyed me, especially considering the way this story starts sets the fast-pace of this story and definitely had me flipping the pages quickly wanting to know whether Becca would choose her happiness for once and allow her sister to be in charge of her own life and happiness. Will Becca give Calum a chance? Will Calum be able to convince Becca that she deserves love just as much as anyone?
As for the dialogue, I really enjoyed how this story started with what happens between Becca and Calum and how it progresses between these two that shows off their great chemistry and red hot romance. Certainly, these two are meant to be together, if Calum can convince Becca that she's the one he wants. Furthermore, I was really intrigued by the hero and heroine's back stories, as the hero has done really well for himself and I liked how far he was willing to go to achieve the deal he's looking to make. I also liked how tenacious the hero was when it came to winning the heroine's heart, which isn't easy, because she's always put her sister's happiness ahead of her own. Something that needs to stop, considering all she's achieved for her career, which is proven by the fact she's moving on to bigger and better things. Will the heroine finally realize that her sister can take care of herself, especially considering Grace is older than Becca?
Overall, this author has penned a very hot and riveting read in this book where the chemistry between this couple was instant the moment they met; the romance full of exquisite heat and passion because Becca loves Calum to experiment; and the ending had me absolutely captivated by how far Becca and her sister are determined to go to right a wrong from the past and get revenge on someone that hurt the heroine. I also liked how things worked out for the hero and heroine, because Calum will do anything to prove to the heroine that love is worth fighting for. I would recommend Bachelor Games by Daire St. Denis, if you enjoy the mysterious strangers trope or books by authors Cathryn Fox, Suzanne Rock, Samanthe Beck and Rebecca Brooks.
Becca and Cal were so freaking hot and sweet together! I wasn’t expecting to love their story as much as I did. I thought it was going to be just another The Bachelor themed romance, but I was wrong. It was clever, fun, and angst-free for the most part. The sisterly bond and all Becca did for Grace was sweet, but it felt a little over the top in regard to Becca pushing Grace toward Cal. Her reasoning made sense for their situation, but I hated the constant second guessing Becca felt about all she was doing and how she could possibly hold a candle to Grace. I loved how Grace lifted Becca up and pushed her toward what she deserved and wanted.
Both Becca and Cal were well-developed characters with depth and substance who complemented each other intellectually, emotionally, and sexually. I've seen other reviewers say that Becca and Cal's attraction/relationship was unbelievable considering he was surrounded by so many gorgeous women. The way I saw it was that he was more interested in the candid, smart, and sensual woman that Becca was. Those other women just seemed tacky and without much substance, only there to win a billionaire. The author was clear about Cal's impression and how it evolved as he got to know Becca more. The same went for Becca's attitude toward Cal. I loved watching the natural progression of their relationship. Every interaction was perfectly portrayed.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Readers Copy of this book.
I received this book in exchange for an honest review so when I realized that the hero was a billionaire, I thought not another alpha billionaire book. But I should have know better as nothing written by Daire is typical.
The book takes place at an all inclusive resort where there is a reality type show to win a date with the hero, Callum. Becca's sister is a contestant on the show for Callum and Becca is there to help her sister win.
The chemistry between Cal and Becca is scorching but it's really their developing emotional connection that had me catching my breath. I love it when I am so invested in a book that I feel the emotions from the characters. My heart literally ached for Becca when Cal had to pretend he was no longer interested in her.
Although there were some minor issues with the plot, it never detracted from the story as the interactions between the characters are so good and so believable. Even though this is not a long book, I really felt like I knew the characters well after reading this book.
I am hoping that there is a sequel with Grace as she was an absolute doll. The relationship between Becca and Grace was sweet and complicated just as it is in real life.
I couldn't put this book down once I started and I highly recommend this book. Well anything written by Daire, really.
Scientist Becca only wants her sister to be happy, and that includes winning beauty contests. When her sister wins a spot in a billionaire bachelor pageant set in the Caribbean, Becca jumps in like usual to help her succeed. Only a few problems. Becca meets and almost joins the mile-high club with billionaire Calum (the bachelor) on the plane. In no time, they’re both falling hard. But, her sister’s interested in Calum, too. Determined to see her sister happy, Becca tells herself it’s okay stepping aside to ‘give’ Calum to her sister. But Calum has other plans, and the two are soon meeting up in his room for hot nights together.
I was hooked from chapter one (and fanning my face at the meet-cute on the plane-wowza!). The romance is steamy with a side of extra steamy, but it’s not overdone. With a few plot twists, this one is guaranteed to be a page-turner. And while I haven’t read the other two books in the series (but I plan to!) BACHELOR GAMES can be read standalone.
Thank you, Entangled and Netgalley, for giving me the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Becca and Grace have always been a team. Grace is the beauty while Becca is the brains. And even though Grace is the elder, Becca has been protecting her since high school. And that’s what Becca plans on doing during the latest contest at a resort in the Caribbean. The prize is a date with a billionaire eligible bachelor, Calum Price. But it’s not Grace who gets a seat next to Cal on the flight to the Caribbean, it’s Becca. And it’s the plain, brainy, slightly mouthy sister who captures the man’s attention. Sure, Grace is nice enough, but she’s not the one who arouses his… curiosity. I should have figured, this being a part of the “Blaze” series, that this book would have some sex scenes that were less than vanilla. They’re not my favorite but I think regular readers will enjoy the book as a whole.
Becca and Grace are not only sisters they are best friends. Their relationship is a bit of role reversal as the younger sister Becca is the brains in the duo who has always looked out for the beauty Grace
They are off to the Caribbean so that Grace can complete in a contest where the winner scores a date for Calum Price the billionaire bachelor. The only problem is that Becca ends up seated next to Calum on the plane and they have an immediate connection.
When Becca realizes that Grace wants Calum as well she decides to do what she has always done and to help her sister out but what happens when Calum wants Becca and not Grace? Let the games begin!
This story has a good combination of heat, drama and twists that will keep you entertained. I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book This book was so full of everything you want in a book, Humor, a villian, HOT HOT Sex, a drop dead gorgeous billionaire, a woman that may not be as beautiful as her sister but beautiful inside makes you beautiful outside. What a sexy read with a strong woman whose goal is to protect her very trusting sister from unscrupulous men. Her sense of duty takes them on a crazy trip to an island where the sister competes for a chance to win a week-long trip to Paris with a billionaire and $100K. Things don't always go as expected and things start getting crazy pretty quickly as Becca and Calum's paths' collide. And of course you have the evil sleaze from Becca's past to add some color to the whole event. It's an easy read with ups and downs for sure, but also lots of sexy scenes along the way
This book grabs you right from the start. It's a dirty little secret you want to keep to yourself til its over. Becca and Grace Evans are so close and are the sweetest pair of sister I have read about in awhile. I love how Becca would do anything she could to help her older sister. In turn, the same can be said about Grace. Add in a sexy single billionaire, Calum Price and add in a pageant with a twist and you have one of the best books I have read this year!!
I love the chemistry between Becca and Calum. Its addicting like sugar. I also was drawn in by all the different emotions this book made me feel. It was quite a good read! Only thing I think I would have changed is at the end I would have stated where Grace was going. I hated not knowing where she was being whisked away to.
What a fast, fun, and sexy read. What would you do if you had always taken care of your big sister and this time the outcome could cause so much unhappiness; for you? Becca is the sister that was used to being looked at second, but when fate throws her into the back of single, sexy, and rich Cal will she believe he really is as interested as he seems, or will she find out that he just likes to play with his meals first? Happiness is not always reached by what is thought to be it is reached by what is meant to be, or will someone stand in their way; Grace the sister or someone from the past? Thank you NetGalley and Daire St. Denis for allowing me to read this ARC and write a honest review.
Honestly this one just didn't work for me. I found the whole story just a little weird. Becca Evans, the smart sister, has been taking care of her older sister Grace, the beautiful one, for so long Becca has just about forgotten she needs to take care of herself too. Calum Price may be one of America's most eligible bachelors but he finds himself taken by the intriguing Becca. Too bad she seems set on pushing Grace on him. This entire story read like a cross between reality TV and a soap opera. Just not my thing unfortunately. In fairness though the writing is well done and the characters well developed. It's just the story that I couldn't get interested in.
Even though I'm not a big fan of reality TV, I did enjoy this fun romance that was centered on a competition that was a crossover of the Bachelor and Survivor. One would think the romance would have been between the billionaire bachelor "prize" and a contestant. However, it was instead the "plain" sister of one of the contestants. Becca has always viewed herself as the plain sister so she is totally surprised by Calum's attention. But when she needs her sister to win, will she put aside her own feelings? Plenty of romance and humorous scenes throughout the story.
I received an ARC in exchange for a honest review.
I really enjoyed reading this story. Becca & her sister Grace are travelling to a Beauty Pageant type competition when Becca bumps into Calum Price. He is the bachelor who is taking part as well. Grace has entered the competition but Becca is the brains behind it all. Once on the plane Becca is upgraded to 1st class and is seated next to Calum. after nearly joing the 'mile high club' she wants to avoid him. After she meets him again on the beach things develope quickly for the pair and they fall in love over the course of the week.
Well written with twists and turns that will have you laughing & crying.
I really love the relationship between Becca and Grace. Even though Becca is younger, she has been looking out for Grace. Grace and Becca go to The Playground of Paradise Bay Resort because Grace is entered in the Miss Temptation pageant.. Callum Price is the judge and the prize along with trip to Paris and $100,000. But, what happens when both sisters want Calum? I won't leave any spoilers, but I will say if you enjoy a side of humor along with your sexy times, you definitely will enjoy this book. There were a few instances in which the guy I didn't like at all got what he deserved.
This is a fun and quick read that I thoroughly enjoyed. In it, Becca is the genius behind her sister Grace's success on the pageant circuit. She expects their experience on a tropical island's reality "dating" show to be more of the same, however she didn't plan on falling for the bachelor, Cal, herself. What follows is a fun, sexy, and slightly naughty novel that fans of the genre will love. This is perfect for when you're looking for a light read by the beach or in front of a warm fire.
The author did such a fantastic job, I was able to see it as the story unfolded. I kept thinking this is a show I'd watch. Maybe a cleaned up version of the show, some of the girls were outrageous on purpose. I liked the relationship that the sisters had. Becca could have been bitter of Grace, but totally wasn't. And Grace never once rubbed her popularity in Becca's face. Then there's Calum, the bachelor that doesn't want to be there. I really enjoyed, Bachelor Games.
This was a weird mix of the Bachelor and a bunch of other reality shows mixed together to make one weird book. I am going to be honest, I am not into reality TV, so this book didn't grab my attention at all. Becca Evans is super smart.Calum Price is super hot and rich. She, for some reason doesn't think he should be with herm but rather her prettier sister.....
Like I said, I am not into reality tv nor what it represents.
Paradise island, sexy millionaire, reality online pageant, with two sisters and an ex-bully from high school, what could possibly happen here.
Calum, sexy millionaire and Becca, sister of contestant, have a connection that they can’t seem to fight. They have a fun and hot holiday affair that has an interesting ending. This is definitely a fun read. Will read more of this series.

I really loved this book! It was funny and hot mixed with some drama. I liked Becca right away. Her loyalty to her sister was admirable and her I found her to be a character that people could relate to easily. The guy was hot, very intelligent, and naughty. I loved the chemistry between these two! I highly recommend this book.
What a wonderful book. I love love stories. The attraction was phenomenal. It took me on a full ride. Just when you think one it turned another. I really turned out to hate Kevyn. That's just one thing. I'd hate to ruin it for you. It was s quick read. I read this book voluntarily fir an honest review. I hope you like it I did. Enjoy! 😊
Loved both the male and female MCs, well-written, cute read. I liked the humor and that there weren't any contrivances or elaborate plot twists. I especially enjoyed that the relationship between the sisters was real and loving.
I'm happy to have found a new author and would definitely read another of her books.

What’s it About? Becca Evans has always looked out for her older but less worldly sister Grace, including making sure Grace won every beauty pageant she entered. Now Grace has the chance to compete in a pageant in the Caribbean and to win the ultimate prize: A date with billionaire Calum Price. If Grace wins this particular pageant, maybe Becca could step aside and get on with her own life. Unfortunately, Becca meets Calum on their flight and he is nothing like she expected and he seems to be attracted to her. As the competition heats up on the resort so do Calum and Becca but when things blow up Becca has to choose between loyalty to her sister and her new feelings for Calum.
Overall reaction to the story? I wasn’t overly impressed with the characters in Bachelor Games. To me they were either shallow, petty, or immature throughout the whole story and nothing ever changed. The plot was fun but the whole pageant atmosphere felt a little slimy now and again which if that was the author’s intention then yay but I wasn’t exactly thrilled with the sleazy feeling. I didn’t exactly get the feeling that there was a romance building either, just a hot fling with some friendly conversations here and there. Overall an okay read but not something I’d repeat.
Describe the hero in five words: Rich. Ambitious. Protective. Smart. Charming. Did you like him? Yes. Why? Calum wasn’t a bad guy he was just driven to follow his plan for the resort, that’s the only reason he agreed to do the pageant. I liked his easy going nature but I never felt like he let the reader get to know him. What there was of him I liked, he came from humble beginnings and never made Becca feel inferior because she wasn’t wealthy.
Describe the heroine in five words: Smart. Petty. Immature. Did you like her? No. Why? Becca had all the makings of a good, strong, different-from-her-sister character yet for being so smart (She was studying to be an astrophysicist) she was incredibly stupid in how she handled the situation with Calum and even her sister Grace. What didn’t sit well with me was how Becca helped Grace with her pageants.
So yeah I wasn’t a big fan of Becca other than to admire her brains for academic endeavors because with her life she was kind of stupid. And I got tired of her “I’m not as pretty as my sister but I’m okay with that in public but in secret I’m so not okay with it” attitude. There was something else that bugged me about her too.
Let’s talk about the romance: What romance? I didn’t feel like Calum and Becca ever really moved past the lust infused fling they started on. There were a few friendly and somewhat sweet moments but those moments didn’t really influence their fling. It was one sexual encounter after another and because of the pageant these two really didn’t spend time doing anything other than sneaking around and having sex. Where those scenes hot? Absolutely but that’s all they were to me, hot scenes with very little emotional growth.
How about that supporting cast? Aside from the catty contestants and sleazy host, there was only Becca’s sister Grace who I’m sorry was eye rolling stupid most of the time. If the intent was to make her seem naively good that didn’t come across. The stereotype of a dumb blonde wasn’t funny or endearing here. Grace was like a child in the body of a bombshell. She felt like more of a burden than anything else and yes, that was Becca’s fault because she just babied this woman. Becca was the YOUNGER sister but she mothered the hell out of Grace to the point where it was annoying.I just wanted to kick someone, anyone in this story would do.
Click It or Skip It? I’d skip it. I would be willing to try this author again just because no author writes great books every single time and nothing about this author’s style screamed “Turn Off.”
Bachelor Games is a sexy, sweet romance. Becca is a caretaker. She's taken care of her older sister their entire lives. And now she's set to make sure her sister wins her latest beauty pageant. So they're headed off to a tropical island where the pageant/reality show will be held, and Becca will be with her, coaching her, the entire time. But first, she has to get through the long plane ride there. When her seat is upgraded to first class and she ends up next to the gorgeous jerk who's the bachelor billionaire the contestants are supposed to end up with, Becca's not thrilled, especially because he's the rude man who bumped into her at the airport and never apologized.
But, as their flight takes off, so does their seemingly out the blue attraction. Calum finds he's not quite so inclined to brush off the woman he had deemed as ordinary in the airport, any longer. Now that she's next to him and quizzing him and looking at him in a way most women don't look at him, asking him questions because she's genuinely curious about him (not his bank account), he's suddenly seeing her in a whole new light. A whole new, attractive, interesting light. And he wants to get to know her, in intimate, sexy ways.
Becca's always been the plain sister, though, the smart sister, not the beautiful sister like Grace. Grace whom she's going to help win this contest and win a date with Calum. So when Becca and Calum start up a sexy vacation fling, how can Becca possibly tell Grace? Sweet, ditzy, naive Grace. I admit to not really liking Grace much until the end. She felt like a two dimensional bimbo. A sweet bimbo, but a bimbo nonetheless. Up until the end when she showed a backbone and some sense. Becca too was a little hard for me to like for a lot of the story. She was so at odds with herself. So insecure and annoying at times. But I like Calum, and I thought his and Becca's chemistry was pretty hot. The BDSM scene was thrown in there, though, and made no sense in that setting, but it was sexy in a non BDSM way.
All in all, Bachelor Games was an entertaining, sexy read. It's not that deep and the characters certainly could have been more substantive and well-fleshed out, but it's still sexy and sweet and I like Becca and Calum's chemistry. And the setting is pretty awesome. Tropical islands are always welcomed.
I received an ARC via NetGalley for an honest review.
