Cold Fusion

Rate this book
Clean, safe, nuclear energy became a reality in 2005. A reactor small enough to be carried in a suitcase promised power for the entire planet. No radioactivity. No toxic waste. Unlimited cheap energy. Cold fusion!

When the rumors began to fly about cold fusion, powerful fossil fuel interests around the world were not pleased. Fortunes and empires would collapse if cold fusion were possible. This invention had to be shut down, annihilated, and erased from memory. The only way to do that was to silence, by whatever means, the scientist who had invented cold fusion before it went public!

Preston Cook discovered the solution to cold fusion after years of solitary work in his home laboratory and suddenly, overnight, he found himself a target and a pariah! He was forced to run from a tightening circle of international assassins to save himself, his family, and his work.

Fun read and interesting story. Needs better editing but well-defined characters and the story flows.

I’m not a huge reader of this type of genre fiction but will occasionally settle in with a thriller, particularly when it’s by someone I know. Techno-thrillers by nature should be compelling page turners, and this certainly fits the bill. The plot clips along at a nice pace and has plenty of twists and turns along the way to keep readers engaged. Characterizations are strong, sympathetic, and – in the case of the antagonist of Cain – unexpectedly nuanced. While I didn’t really feel empathy for the man, he certainly becomes more human than one would expect. The ending takes an interesting route that will probably keep you guessing until the final page. And for the squeamish, be forewarned that you’ll get some pretty grisly insight to what a bullet from the barrel of a Desert Eagle .50 can do to soft tissue… just saying.
