➳When destiny has a path fro two individuals that is blocked from being together, but years later are put back together to just be simply inseparable...

➳Not a lot of the time do I encounter upon a novel that is written in the third point of view in which I end up loving. However, with this beautiful romance my mind is set to keep reading more of Miranda Liasson's novel. Her writing is one that at first had me questioning whether I would love the novel or not due to all the drama and "extra" addition being added to the romance novel. But once you keep reading and find out that everything is connected in someway, you start to let you heart in towards the romance of Colton and Sarah. Bot characters have known each other since high school as they both live in a small town where everyone knows everyone and everything every individual does.

➳Colton and Sarah have had opportunities in the past to be together, to express their actual affection towards each other. Fate had something else up their sleeves instead of letting them be together as one. Years later, after graduating to be a doctor, Sarah makes her way back to their small town. That's when she encounters upon Colton, now as a cop and as the most sweetest individual the town has ever met. To me, I find Colton to be just the most amazing "jerk" I have read in a romance novel. Both of them together spark a chemistry that I found soul-soothing to read and love.

➳Overall this was a romance that took a turn of events that I was truly not expecting. From the fireworks scene, to the birthday pie, to the admiration Colton and Sarah have towards each other, every scene is worth reading and is beyond heart-warming. Thank you to the wonderful ladies at ForeverRomance giving me a chance with this novel.

A really cute love story!

I'm a sucker for hate to love romances and this one fits the bill. I also enjoyed small town romances and the setting in Then There Was You is just that.

Sara Langdon is back to her hometown of Angel Falls. She's a physician and she has come back home to help with the care of her grandmother who's suffering from dementia. In the meantime, Sara has joined her father's small-town medical practice after training at Columbia.

Sara left town after her engagement dissolved when the groom-to-be, Tagg, sleeps with the "cake girl". Since then, Sara can't eat any type of cake. She blames part of her debacle on Colton Walker, her ex-fiancée's best friend. She has known Colton for a long time. He used to make fun of her when they were teenagers which explain Sara's dislike of him. So when she learns, he's her first patient she has a mini meltdown but in the end, she does her job. Sara might dislike Colton but she's also not blind, he is H.O.T. But nothing can happen there, right?

Colton Bentley Walker is the police chief in Angel Falls. He had a hard time growing up after his parents pass away. He went to live with his grandmother and he had to take care of his younger sister Hannah, He had a lot of responsibilities from a young age and now, as the police chief, his responsibility is even bigger now that the whole town depends on him. Colton is a family man and he knows his behavior as a kid towards Sara was awful, He was a moron but maybe now, they can become friends except his reactions to her are all completely unexpected.

Then There Was You is perfect for someone who enjoys romances in a small town setting. It was engaging from the beginning and above all, sweet and cozy.

I was left wanting to read more books about other interesting characters I liked in this novel. I hope maybe we get a book or two.

Cliffhanger: No

4 - "...The angels are never wrong." Stars!

Then There Was You is the first book in Miranda Liasson’s new Angel Falls series. We have a bit of a second chance vibe going on with Police Chief Colton Walker and Dr. Sara Langdon’s reconnection, when she returns to town after a decade away.

Irritating her was too much fun…

You know the boy at school that pulled your hair, called you names and generally seemed to be a nuisance wherever you went, and not because he didn’t like you, but for reasons you only work out as you get older? Well Colton Walker was that to Sara growing up. Being her boyfriend's best friend didn’t really help things either, especially when she then assumes that he plays a massive part in him leaving her on the eve of their wedding for the woman that jumps out of his Stag Party cake.

"I’m sort of liking this enemies vibe… Lots of sexual tension… It’s like watching a rom-com."

You can tell from the offset that this is the beginning of a series, with a whole bunch of secondary characters introduced, and a whole lot of background being incorporated into Sara’s return to town. To be honest it was almost too much to take in, because at the 30% mark I almost called time, what with the overload of information and a very slow start to the relationship between Colton and Sara, I was erring into bored territory.

"I was wrong about you… Maybe you’re wrong about me too…"

But there was something about the pair of them when they did get page time together, that made me stick it out, and I am glad I did because when the author stepped away from dumping every other characters back story and focused on the two of them together; I. Was. Hooked!

One kiss.
One lie.
One missed opportunity.

I can understand why though because it’s easy to see that all of them are going to play pivotal parts in future books, with a few of them likely to take center stage now these two have sorted themselves out.

"How about we start again..?"

But I think the dispersal of the information may have been better off spread out through the entire book rather than all at the start, but if like me you find yourself struggling do stick with because the second half more than makes up for it.

"I don’t care about the past anymore… Not our past or your past… it’s time to take a new course… For both of us."

No news on when the next book is due, but I hope its sooner rather than later. This is an author that I have only recently discovered, but I am liking her writing a little more with each book I read.

"Life is just too short to hate cake."

Favorite Quotes:

He had one claim to fame: he’d bedded more women than an eighties rock star.

He doesn’t beat children or kill cats. Plus I’m twenty-nine. He’s not perfect, but who is? Maybe he’s as close as I’m going to come.

Don’t ever marry a man who doesn’t look at you like you’re chocolate ice cream…

Life is just too short to hate cake.

My Review:

Regardless of the author, I seem to brace myself when diving into the start any new series with an equal sense of trepidation and anticipation. My response to this sparkling entry was a zealous fist pump and head cheerleader worthy squeal. I needed something fresh and engaging and Sara’s less than confident return to her small-town was just what I needed. The storylines were appealing as well as relevant and relatable, the characters were endearing and realistic, and the writing was pleasantly easy to follow yet craftily observant and amusing, and held my interest throughout. The richly detailed narrative made excellent work of introducing the town and key characters while cunningly laying the groundwork and setting up the series for subsequent installments, and I am eager to schedule a return visit for a family dinner or two at Nonna’s and perhaps some coffee and cake at the Bean. And that’s that.

My first book from this author but not my last one for sure. Second chance at love in a small town. Sara is a doctor and came back to town to help out her dad's practice. A year ago her fiance had dumped her for the cake girl from his bachelor party. She is now back and ends up sparring again with her ex's best friend who is also the Police Chief, Colton. After sharing a kiss do they really hate each other and then her ex pops back into town. Made a very good read. One paragraph had me laughing though.

"Malcolm beamed right back, which was a little reassuring. He was very Italian looking, tanned and toned, with a head of hair whose thickness riva;ed John Stamos's. "

Anyone who knows me, knows that John Stamos has been my celebrity crush since the 80's. When I read this to my husband he burst out laughing and sais "well just because of that you will rate it 5 stars" LOL. No I did not rate it 5 stars because of that but because this book was amazing. I loved Sara;s family and Colton's family and all the way they work with each other in helping out their grandmothers.

I received this from Forever for review.

Four stars: A sweet second chance romance with delightful characters.

Sara is hesitant about returning home to Angel Falls. She is happy to be home to help with her grandmother who was recently diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, but she isn’t thrilled to be returning to the place where she was left jilted by her fiancé two days before their wedding. Then to make matters worse, she keeps running into Colton Walker, the police chief, who teased her in high school. As Sara settles in, she begins to see that maybe Colton isn’t who she thought he was, but why should she care? Except there was that one hot kiss. Will Sara find a place to put down her roots?
What I Liked:
*Then There Was You is a different kind of second chance romance because there really wasn’t much of a first romance. I was swept up in the romance, and I adored the characters and the setting. This book is oozing with small town charm and it is cute and cozy, just right for summer reading or whenever you want a pick me up.
*I enjoyed the characters. Sara is a fun main character. She is now a successful doctor returning home, but she carries a lot of insecurity. Deep down inside she is still that nerdy teenage girl with glasses. Her confidence falters because the one man she gave her heart to betrayed her horribly. I liked seeing Sara grow and find her way as she established herself in her father’s medical practice and amongst the town. It is a slow journey, but it was well worth the time. Then there is Colton. Colton had a rough childhood, and he wasn’t always the nicest guy in high school. He has gone above and beyond to make up for his past, especially when it comes to the citizens of Angel Falls. Colton is kind, considerate and he looks after everyone. I especially loved getting in his head to see how he really felt about Sara. I also enjoyed many of the secondary characters in Sara’s family like her stepmother, Rachel, her sister, Gaby, and her adorable Nonna. These characters are fun and genuine and they make you feel right at home.
*The romance is one of stops and starts, going all the way back to high school. It is antagonistic at first as Sara believes that she doesn’t like Colton. It takes a long time to take root and even longer to blossom. When it finally reaches its full potential it is so sweet, well worth the wait. I liked that it started out prickly, then moved into a shaky friendship before it took hold.
*I appreciated the focus on family. Both Sara and Colton are deeply devoted to their families. I loved how both of them looked out for their family members and sacrificed for them. There are some wonderful family moments in this one.
*I have to admit, I didn’t like Tagg at all, especially the more I learned about him. I was pleasantly surprised at the end by his nice gesture.
*The ending is lovely. It ends in a good happy place that will leave you smiling.
And The Not So Much:
*I am hoping that there is going to be another book or two with these characters. I was left wanting to see if Rafe, Sara’s brother, would take that step and ask out Sara’s friend. I also wanted to see Gaby find herself a good man.
*I was curious to know more about Sara’s mom who passed away when Sara was a teen. I wanted to know more about what she was like, and how the girls coped with her passing.
*Nonna is adorable. I would love more of her character just because she is so darn cute.

Then There Was You is a charming romance with fun, likable characters, a cozy setting, strong familial bonds and a cute second chance romance. This was an easy read, perfect for when you want a nice, light romance without drama and angst.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own, and I was not compensated for this review.

I absolutely adored this. It was a wonderful story filled with so much heart and love that completely filled me up. Excellent read!

Fun fact: the cover pulled me in. Seriously how cute is it? Then the synopsis got me because I love tension and animosity between characters so I was really excited about what was to come and I was not disappointed. I loved this so much. Colton and Sara were the best. They were great characters, genuine and hard working and so caring. They had this great antagonism happening that had me smiling and truly enjoyed watching them connect and work through everything. I loved learning their histories and see who they were, who they are, and who they're growing to be. There's a a nice amount of tension and a bit of mild drama but it's really sweetness and fun. It was just so incredibly entertaining as they went through all their ups and downs, I couldn't get enough.

This was so much more than this budding relationship between Colton and Sara. It's about family, friendships, and really connecting and opening up. There were so many amazing details making this one extraordinary story. It was like all the smaller stories woven in were giving the main couple a run for their money because honestly, I loved them just as much. It was all so well thought out. The secondary characters were really wonderful, helping to create some touching and emotional scenes that really pulled at my heart strings.

The story was so wonderful and really liked the build as Colton and Sara come together. It had such a great pace giving me just what I need at just the right time. This was sweet and loving and funny and just full of so much heart. I am so glad the adorable cover caught my eye and I decided to try a new-to-me author. This was just what I needed and I enjoyed every second!

Thanks to Forever Romance for this free review copy!
.
This super sweet romance has so much small town charm combined with the always-popular long-lost hometown love drama. A female doctor returning to her hometown after being abandoned by her fiancée right before their wedding + the town’s male police chief who was a teenage crush = a delightful cozy reading experience. The family dynamics were wonderful with the addition of Cookie and Nonna, the matriarchs of the two families. I loved how the families banded together to make sure everyone was always being taken care of ❤️

A definite must read by Miranda Liasson. I loved both Colton and Sara and really enjoyed reading about their trials and tribulations. When they finally saw past the past and looked into the future, the only one that they could see was each other.

Colton. Yes he was a regular bully in high school. But, he reminded me of the little boy pulling the little girls pigtails just to get her attention because he liked her and didn't know how to tell her. But, there were quite a few miscues between him and Sara. He doesn't hold it against her that she blames him for her failed engagement. She always thought he was trouble and she was dating his best friend, Tagg. When his chance to maybe make her see that he was interested in her, one little lie ended it all. He has a lot to make up for and to make Sara see him as the man he is today. He has to prove himself to his Red and he totally understands why. He'll give her time and space but, he won't back down. All it takes is one night, the look of fear on her face and he's stepping back. He'll never put a woman through what his mother went through when his father was killed in the line of duty. Now, she confused, he's miserable and it's going to take a lot of groveling, again, to get her back in his life where she belongs.

Sara has conflicted feelings about being back in Angel Falls. She never thought that this is where she would be. Her life was planned out with Tagg until Colton ruined it all by having Valerie jump out of the cake. She trusted him to make sure Tagg was fine, home and ready for the wedding. No, Colton let him run off with the floozy. But, did she really know the trut?. Seeing Colt again, listening to his barbs, she knows that he was to blame. Until, she sees the man behind the quips, how he really treats people, how much the residents of Angel Falls respect him and the job he does. As she is starting to see a totally different side of the man that she hated for years, her feelings start to change. There is a fine line between love and hate and she may have crossed it.

Then There Was You was such and pleasant and enjoyable read. I loved the back and forth between Colton and Sara. What started off as hate, turned to love as the truth came out about a lot of things. Sara had a backbone and wasn't afraid to give her opinions. Colt knew how to grovel, on more than one occasion and wasn't ashamed to do it. But, it was the people of Angel Falls that truly brought them together at long last. I loved the family drama in Colton's life, the family dynamic in Sara's. They all played an important role in the story and brought everything together.

Miranda Liasson is a new-to-me author and I am looking forward to reading more from her. Luckily, this is the first in the series and I am really interested in seeing where she takes these delightful people. She wrote a beautiful love story that held a lot of emotions with a wonderful ending that, after reading it twice, still brought tears to my eyes.

I received this book for free from Publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

I admit completely to the fact the reason I wanted to read this book was because of that beautiful cover.  Something about it just screamed READ ME NOW!  I love small town contemporaries and this sounded right up my alley.  What I wasn't expecting was to fall in love with this story from the very beginning.  THEN THERE WAS YOU was captivating and unputdownable.

Sara has moved back to her hometown because of her grandmothers' declining health and to work at her father's medical practice.  A year ago her fiance and high school sweetheart called off the wedding days before it was due to happen and cheated on her at his bachelor party.  She knows coming back to town will mean dealing with the town's pity over what happened, and also dealing with her ex's best friend Colton (now the Chief of Police), whom she fully blames for enabling the cheating.

Sara and Colton start off from a place of enemies to lovers but it was just a beautiful story of these two people that should've been together all along.  Some miscommunication and bad luck prevented that and it was endearing to see them find their way to each other now.  I think this lacked the animosity I was expecting from an enemies to lovers but I didn't feel I missed that.  It's just the perfect small town romance that I love to read at this time of year.  I adored the main characters, individually and together.  But also the whole cast of characters introduced in this book, which means I can't wait to read more from Angel Falls.

This was my first time reading Miranda Liasson but it definitely won't be the last and highly recommend you put this on your summer to-read lists.

MY RATING: 4/5 STARS
I received a copy from the publisher in exchange for a honest review.

MIranda Liasson is a new author for me and since I was recommended to try her as an author because she had a new book coming out (this one) by the publisher, I decided to give it a go. And I don't regret it.

Then There Was You follows Sara Langdon, a doctor, who returns back to her hometown of Angel Falls after her grandmother grows more and more confused due to her dementia. Sara was seen as someone who was better than Angel Falls to a lot of people considering she was brilliant at what she did and studied medical practice in the most prestigious schools in America. Her father and her worst enemy have already put a clock on Sara, counting down to the time she would live her much more deserved life in the glamorous life of bigger cities. However, Sara didn't come off as pretentious. She was sweet, caring, and a wonderful doctor who wanted to help her patients. Her worst enemy, Colton Walker, Angel Fall's police chief, always had an opinion of Sara. He thought she was cold from her type A personality. At least that's what readers are thought to believe until we realize Colton had a secret crush on his best friend's girlfriend ever since high school. Both of them dislike each other for their own reasons. The biggest reason of it all being that Sara believes Colton ruined her engagement with her fiance due to a bachelor party gone wrong that led her fiance having sex with a model.

Sara as a character was very relatable. She grew up thinking she was an ugly duckling due to her frizzy hair, thick rounded glasses, and plain jane looking face. It didn't help that Colton, a desirable and hot, teenager constantly teased and bullied Sara for her looks. Although it sounds cruel, it was more teasing than bullying and it was due to his silly crush. Even after becoming a praised doctor, Sara still lacked self-esteem as an adult especially around Colton. She seemed more awkward around Colton who grew up very well. And Colton, who seemed to always be an ass around Sara, he pokes fun of her.

I really liked this book because while Colton was a jerk to Sara due to his crush, he was a great guy. He was a great brother/son to his family. He volunteered his time with children and looked after children who didn't grow up picture perfect like many nuclear families in Angel Falls. There was a lot of misunderstandings that happened and characters were quick to realize how wrong they were to have a preconceived opinion of each other.
MY RECOMMENDATION
I'll definitely be reading more of Miranda Liasson's books!!!! And you should too!

“He had one claim to fame: he’d bedded more women than an eighties rock star.”

Ah, the second chance romance. The troupe that gives a couple a chance to try again. Rebuild, rekindle, and reevaluate. But will it work? Serafina is headed back home to begin work with her father. A medical practice with him will be just what she needs after the disaster of her failed engagement.

I will sum this up for you. It’s funny, sweet and is what I consider a perfect handbag book.

Get it. Read it. Love it.

Miranda Liasson’s new series starts with a bang, with a mix of deep emotions, antagonism, humor and a heartfelt romance that kept me completely engaged.

Sara and Colton are the perfect antagonists. They have a history, one that ended in a not so pretty fashion but needs to be dealt with. The push pull between them was perfect and both Sara and Colton surprised me with their more vulnerable sides. Both are hiding insecurities that have plagued them for most of their lives. Their interaction begins on rocky ground when Sara returns to her small town to join her father’s medical practice and help her ailing grandmother. For her sake, she is willing to face the demons of her past, and that includes Colton.

Colton was the popular jock in high school, until a knee injury changed everything. He is now the police chief of their quaint small town. He is charming and well-liked by most everyone who knows him. As Sara and Colton spend time together, there is plenty of heat and tension between them. Old misunderstandings continue to drive them apart. At first there's plenty of animosity between them, but they can't keep it up. Colton used to think that Sara was spoiled and didn’t have to struggle for anything. The reality is different.

This story warmed my heart, it was a lovely slow burn romance to get lost in. Sara and Colton were perfect together, their chemistry leaped off the pages. I loved the quirky small-town vibe and the characters’ strong sense of family. Miranda Liasson is a new to me author I'm definitely putting on my reading list.

A good enough premise, which was what caught my eye.

However, in the end I found it to be lacking.

The writing felt a little forced and the story, well, it wasn't as good as the summary portrayed it to be.

Overall execution was a 2 star rating for me, because I was able to get through it, so it had to be just okay.

Okay was not what I wanted. I barely managed to finish it and that was because I took breaks. If a book really grabs me then I barely take breaks.

This was a classic Miranda Liasson book and just what I needed. I loved the family aspect and watching Sara navigate her relationship with her father. Maybe because I've always been a bit of a daddy's girl, I always have a soft spot for father/daughter relationships, and their scenes toward the end of the book were really well done. I enjoyed the slow burn between Colton and Sara as well. I'm looking forward to reading about the rest of the siblings and this small town.

A small-town romance, my first thought - sign me up, but it was a bit of a bummer for me. The book has a good premise, one that caught my eye, sadly I just wasn’t keen on the execution, the magic wasn’t there for me, this fact led to some skim reading about 35% into the book and then again at about 62%.

The epilogue was sweet, but overall, found myself underwhelmed by the book.

**3.5**

Generally, I really enjoyed this. The writing was good, as were the characters and their dynamics. My major issue was just that this particular story was driven by negative motivations from both Sara and Colton. First Sara was scared to start a relationship with Colton (because reasons), then Colton lost his nerve (because reasons), and then again a third time one of them changed their minds about being together. I was getting whiplash.
But again, overall I liked it and, I will definitely try another book from this author.

Was a decent enough read, but its cons were unfortunately too problematic to ignore. The writing is okay but nothing special or groundbreaking and lacked that emotional punch, feeling a little too impersonal; and there were quite a lot of moments where you had to suspend your disbelief. I'll leave a few quotes to give you a feel of the uncomfortable girl-hate and evil-painting-of-a-woman concerning a girl they barely knew that occurred somewhere in the first third of the story:

"Just that Everly’s acting like the Eveready sex bunny."

"That man wants to do you, and you drove him into the arms of that horrible woman."

"But deep inside, she knew Everly posed no threat. The threat she worried about was much closer than Everly and her new boobs. It was inside Sara’s own heart."

Also: Colton kept screwing up, and at one important point, I thought Sara forgave him too easily. The way Tagg was written is a bit odd too. When you realize this is actually a Pride and Prejudice retelling of sorts, it'll make a bit more sense, though not in that I'm-awed-this-is-clever way.

Also also: the dogs were probably the most one-dimensional characters in the story, serving merely as a device or some kind of decoration lol

Overall: The blurb was the (most) well-written part of the book.

I love a good enemies to lovers romance, because both hate and love require such passion, and there can be such a fine line between the two. After all, the opposite of love isn't hate, it's indifference. And so much of the animosity between Sara and Colton seems to stem more from misunderstandings and fear than from actual dislike of each other. This book was like rolling in enemies to lovers catnip and it was g-l-o-r-i-o-u-s.

If you've read others reviews I've written, you'll see me say over and over again that the best romance novels are based on more than just the relationship between the lead characters; they also feature personal growth on the part of one or both main characters as well as featuring storylines around and development of the relationship between the lead characters and the other people in their lives. Miranda Liasson gives the reader so much of this in Then There Was You, and it's beautiful. Sara comes home to be with her aging grandmother, who is suffering from dementia and they're losing her a bit at a time, so Sara and her family have to deal with what that's like. Sara and her siblings also lost their mother to cancer when Sarah was a preteen, and there are several aspects of the storyline dealing with Sara and her younger sister Gabby and their quest to find ways to be closer to their deceased mother, as well as Sara and her relationship with her stepmother. She also joined her Dad's family medical clinic when she moved home, so that's a whole other familial relationship to navigate and grow. Then there's the whole matter of her fiance leaving her 2 days before their wedding the year before... And that's just Sarah, and that's not everything! Then there's Colton, whose police father was shot while on duty when he was young, then his mother drank herself to death leaving him in the care of his grandmother and to take care of his 12-years-younger sister - who is now 18 and a woman on the cusp of adulthood. Drama drama drama.

Needless to say, this isn't "just a sex book," and anyone who tries to tell you that romance novels are shallow or meaningless, this is one to throw at their head and be like "Try actually READING a romance novel before you decide they don't talk about any real, deeper issues." That being said, this book has some very hot sex scenes as well. I also love how completely open, candid and natural Sara and Colton are with each other - their chemistry is amazing and hot but at the same time so comfortable and down to earth. And then one of them would say or do something that would set the other one's insecurities off and it would be sparks and catfighting all over again, and it was hot and cold like hot caramel over ice cream. YUMMY.

Then There Was You is the first book in the Angel Falls series and can be read as a stand alone. From the blurb online, it looks like the second book, The Way You Love Me, will be about Sara's sister Gabby, who is a side-character in this book.

When her grandmother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, Dr. Sara Langdon came back to her hometown to be near her. Her first shift at the Angel Falls Community Hospital ER and she gets her nemesis as a patient. Colton Walker is the police chief and oh yeah, the man she blame for helping ruin her engagement a year ago. Sara also have to deal with the fact that working with (and for) her dad doesn't quite work as she would have liked.

On his side, Colton doesn't understand why Sara can't stand him but at the same time, he takes a certain pleasure in irritating her. Once an insolent and angry kid with a chip on his shoulder, Colton became a responsible man and a great cop who take take his job of looking out for the townfolks seriously (he won points with me for that and also learning that he keeps emergency dog biscuits in his pocket).

"We could've been together all these years."
"The way I see it, you're getting a much better version of me than the one from ten years ago. Maybe things happen for a reason."

Even not counting the misunderstandings between the MC, I thought that since he wasn't such a nice guy when they were in school, Colton should have grovel more instead of getting too often on his high horse. But I still enjoyed their antagonistic chemistry and I like that in addition to the romance, we also see an evolution in the heroine's relationship with her father and also her stepmother, Rachel, a character I really liked in book 2 (that I read before this one) and that I still admire. It was great to see Sara find the courage to finally say what's on her mind and in her heart, not just with the hero but with her family too.

Waiting for Rafe and Kaitlyn's HEA now 😀.

I enjoyed reading this story because it demonstrated how love hurts, missed opportunities, fear of rejection (male & female), & second chances to get it right can make a story so entertaining that you will complete it in a few days. There were sex scenes in the book but explicitly graphic; just enough to bring the imagination alive. I'm looking forward to the 2nd book in the series.

What a great enemies to lovers romance! Sara and Colton make the perfect pair. The conflict draws you in and has you rooting for them to find their way into each other's arms and hearts. The build-up in the story is wonderful, and you won't be disappointed in the end.

Back in town to care for her aging Grandmother, and taking a place in her father’s medical practice after Colombia, Sara never thought she’d ne back in the place that held so many difficult memories. Her engagement fell apart two days before the wedding when her fiancé slept with the “cake girl”, and she’s not been able to eat cake since. His best friend, Colton, the bane of her teenaged years, also is to blame in her mind – with the added resentment for his relentless teasing, so she’s determined to ignore him, or not run into him: whichever comes first.

Colton is all grown up now, and is the Police chief in Angel Falls. His childhood was a difficult one, his parents died when he was young, and he and his younger sister had to move in with his grandmother. He’s realized that his treatment of Sara was wrong, and can’t blame her when her reaction to him is less than warm.

Together the two are a big pile of unexpected: Sara still holds a boatload of insecurities and hurt, but she can’t help but see that Colton has matured and perhaps he’s not quite the despicable being she believed him to be. Colton, for his part, believes he just wants to be friends, friendly and nothing more, but he can’t quite seem to get Sara out of his mind. Despite the two being adults, the early stages of their romance is very sweet as they start to see one another as they are now. Of course, others in the story see the two of them as well-matched, and the lovely moments with secondary characters and family members add layers of understanding to the personalities here. Sara’s grandmother, newly diagnosed with dementia is particularly telling – the laughter and sadness that weigh on everyone, and the real enjoyment in company of family, friends and the little town that shines through. A lovely, sweet story that brings plenty of atmosphere and small town ‘everyone knows your history’ flair to readers.

I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.
