What could make a regular ol’ cashier from PennyMart turn into bounty hunting and pursue a criminal across the planets? The kind of emotion that gives birth to wrath.
How does the first born of Zama’s royalty become conscripted into taking a mail order bride? That’s one story. What does he feel when his brother signs him up for that? Pure wrath.
Smyrna wants one thing. Just one. She wants the man who killed her best friend dead. Being a bounty hunter isn’t her life goal. It’s the means to an end.
Caayn’s younger brother played a cruel joke on him. He signed him up to be hand-fasted to a mail order bride. Hell has no fury like a woman scorned? Not so. Hell has no wrath like a man signed up to marry a woman he’s never met.
Caayn's younger brother decides to sacrifice him for the good of their planet by signing him up to HandFast with a human he has never laid eyes on. Not only does he not want a mate, but he has always loved flying through the stars being the rebel Corsair and wants to keep doing it.
Smyrna is determined to get revenge on the animal that scarred her and killed her sister, she just needs the money to get to the planet Junus where she knows he is. All hell bent on getting there, she hatches a plan to join a new Mail Order Bride Program which will get her there. All she has to do is escape her alien groom to be, but will he give her a chance to and will she even want to?
Wrath may be an alien SF romance, and a part of the Intergalactic Dating Agency series, but this steamy tale of faked/not-faked arranged mating, mistaken identities, and noble deeds done under false pretenses has a plot worthy of a Shakespearean comedy. Smyrna is fixated on revenge. Her only goal in life is the justifiable homicide of the man who killed her friend and nearly killed her. In pursuit of her victim she'll say or do whatever she must, including fake a mail-order marriage to an alien. Caayne is less than thrilled by a mail-order bride, and a little clueless as to his intended's intentions - but they do say love is blind... These two stumble their endearing way through adventure and danger to an ending to make everybody (but the bad guys) happy as can be. Written in a charmingly straightforward style, steamy as a sweat lodge in the sexy parts - it's highly entertaining. Consider the Operation Outreach branch of the Intergalactic Dating Agency to be a resounding success at it's first match.
This book...... I really wanted to give it more stars, but I just can't.
Here's what I liked: The honor the hero has, his internal struggle about doing what is right for his family, not kissing a woman engaged to someone else, worry about an unborn baby. The heroine has such drive and passion to avenge her friends death. Her willingness to travel to destinations unknown. Her passion for life.
Here's what I didn't like: In the first chapter we meet the heroine and her 2 male friends. There was no depth to the friendships, there was no explanation of the history that would create such a bond. It was very unrealistic and frustrating. It was as if the author had a checklist of what makes a good story and just checked the box "Scooby friends".
The implication of the hero's past "jobs". He would have been a much larger, well rounded character if we could have witnessed a "job". Again it was a flat resume, as a reader we just need to believe what we are told (or inferred) and move on.
SPOILER and entry into Disneyland: You really think an experienced captain/smuggler/mercenary/who knows what? would truly believe that a gun just got lost? Really? We as readers are that stupid? And have you ever stuffed a gun in your bra? Do you have any idea how heavy it is? How uncomfortable that would be? How dangerous, especially for a civilian who hasn't been trained with that weapon?
The pace was way to fast to the end. When her target is in her room first she has been attacked and has all that adrenaline in her system. You really think her hands wouldn't be shaking, or NEVER having been trained or practiced with this new weapon she will really hit her target and then conveniently pass out.
Next we have her friends who just were able to show up to help her be with her hero? And the magical bow that was wrapped around the shooting. Her hero wasn't upset that she lied? WTF?
This is a book that could have been so good. It was free on Amazon unlimited, I am glad I didn't pay for it. Even saying all of this I still want to read the rest of her books, because I like this world and 2 dimensional characters she created. I have hope her next ones will be better.
Smyrna wants one thing: to avenge her best friend even if that means traveling to another planet and pretending to want to get hitched to an alien. Caayn has been just fine on his own until now, but his brother put his name into the wife pool with the Earthlings so he has a plan. Capture the women off the transport ship, drop them off somewhere else, go be a pirate. Simple enough. Except his little female is surprising and a bit enticing. But, she has a mate already, and he will get her to him, even if it means giving her up.
Sexy aliens who for once aren't 7 foot, blue, with a vibrating clit stimulator above their shlongs. Not kidding. Ice Planet Barbarians was a whoooleee segway into alien smut books. Anyways. The background for these aliens is that they are humans, but they aren't from Earth. Something about different descendants of the same species going off to make settlements on different worlds and Earth got cut off from communication and technology until the fact that they weren't from there was lost to time. Interesting little backstory that was just randomly dropped into this quick and very sexy book. The spice doesn't spice for most of the book, but when it does.
I am not a big fan of the books that start with the characters basically nonstop lying to each other and then it is just accepted like it was nothing, but to each their own. I try not to judge too harshly just because that isn't my thing. Ignoring that the book was good. I liked the characters. The main part of the book was accomplished completely while leaving off on a part that allows the reader to want to continue reading. I would absolutely read more by this author in the future.
Smyrna wants to go to planet Janus in order to seek revenge on the man who killed her friend. So she is one of theee females to sign up as mail order brides. Caane's brother signed him up as a candidate to be matched with a bride. He doesn't want to be hand fasted to anyone. Both Caane and Smyrna have secrets when they meet. But circumstances allow them to become friendly. He shares his secrets but she doesn't. What happens when he finds out the truth? I liked the story and the lead in to the next book hooked me instantly. I would have liked to know what his brother thought of Smyrna but other than that the story was great.
An interesting take on a dating agency story where Smyrna uses them to get to the correct planet to exact her revenge on the guy who killed her best friend! along the way she meets Caayn, her intended and who is signed up by his brother, against his will! This leads to all sorts of mayhem and misunderstandings but all in all a pretty good story from a master story teller! I recommend this and look forward to the next one in the series!
This was a cute shirt story. The complex story line could have been a full length novel. It has that potential. It is a cute and easy read. I would recommend. The title leads the reader to believe there will be a lot more anger than there is. Both main characters are angry, for good reason, but it doesn't get as dark as I expected based on the title. It is a light story that hints at darkness, but other than a few lines it reads very light.
Revenge has been all our heroine has thought about since she lost her sister. She changed her life completely in search of it. Our hero is thrust into obligations he has no intention of keeping. Put the two of them together and their carefully crafted plans go out the window.
2.5 star rating. Smaryna and Caayn are the same. Stubborn, tenacious and funny. They have their own issues to overcome. There really wasn’t much to the story for me to latch on too. Not much action, but humorous. I liked all the characters. The story was missing something for me. Very short read. Do recommend, if only for a quick laugh.
Murder, a bounty hunter, and an alien, put them all together and you have a great tale to tell. This is not your typical girl meets boy. Its action and adventures in spade.
Absorbed and taken in so fast I wanted more. Loved the first book and can't wait until the next. I'm a huge Elle Thorne fan and have read all her books. Totally different and totally new and fresh. Loved it.
I found this book quite funny in places. Blind dates are one thing but a blind wedding .... lol. There is some great chemistry between the characters and they seem to work really well together. A great little read.
A sneaky page turner that is light hearted and fun. I enjoyed the plot twists and the characters a lot. In particular the main 4 characters were fresh and interesting. I'm definitely intrigued and plan to read the next book, Rush, right now.
This is a story about a woman who wants revenge and justice so badly that she becomes a bounty hunter and then becomes a mail order bride to an alien to get to the planet her perp ran off to. She lies and Manipur her way threw this book to get what she wants. Meh read.
And if Caayn had his brother sign him up so much the better, Smyrna just wants to get to Janus. This easy to read, high angst, some action space romp is a fun afternoon read.
