James O. Born returns to work alongside James Patterson again in the follow-up BookShot of the Mitchum series. Readers will likely remain impressed with this piece, as it has all the impact of a great short story without losing any of the needed character and story development. Mitchum enjoys his quiet life in upstate New York, where he can deliver his daily newspapers and run an unofficial P.I. business on the side. When his brother, Natty, calls with a problem, Mitchum seems skeptical. However, when a homicide is involved, the brothers reunite, post haste. Mitchum learns that a high school friend has been slain, potentially by a fellow drug dealer. As one who ‘enhances recreational activities’ himself, Natty can attest to the fact that there are some out there who want nothing more than to bury Peter Stahl, but not before discovering the secret he has about a new and ‘hot’ commodity for the street. As Mitchum works to iron out all the details, he learns that Natty is deeply in love with the deceased’s wife, which could prove to be a problem. Before Mitchum can learn much more, Natty been hauled away to jail, the primary suspect in the murder. It is now a race to find the true killer and clear Natty’s name, forcing Mitchum to look under every rock, where corrupt figures wait for their slice of the pie. A wonderful follow-up piece that pushes the reader into the middle of the action as Mitchum forges ahead at top speed. BookShot fans will surely enjoy this piece, both for its excitement and quick pace.

This weekend of BookShot reading has proven to be highly useful and I have come across a number of wonderful pieces. James O. Born surely has a handle on this series, which continues to build, and avid readers can only hope that Patterson will turn to him many more times in the future. While short, the story allows more character development as it relates to Robert ‘call me Mitchum’ Mitchum, both from a familial perspective and with his own personal sentiments. The reader can enjoy a dash of sarcasm and some heartfelt emotion without missing out on what ends up being something worth the hour of reading time. The story is by no means unique, but it holds the attention of the read throughout, paced with short chapters and quick development. Anyone who needs a decent filler between major reading assignments can turn to this piece and not be disappointed. I can only hope that Mitchum will be back soon, rising to the top amidst the supersaturation of BookShots in the e-book domain. Readers ought to keep an eye out for these and will surely find something to appeal to their thriller side.

Kudos, Messrs. Patterson and Born for another great collaboration. I enjoy how the Mitchum series is shaping up and hope you have more in store in the coming months.

This is the sequel in the Mitchum books. I am trying to read more books by James Patterson and his Bookshots are the best way to do it, because they are so short and are fast reads.

Mitchum's brother has been charged with murder. Nathaniel swears he didn't kill anyone. However, he admits that he is involved with the victim's wife. It is up to Mitchum to become a un-official private investigator again and figure out the truth.

This book was fun and fast paced! A great quick read :)

#0.5b in the Mitchum series. This entry is the second novella written by author James Patterson with co-author James O. Born. Failed Navy SEAL, Mitchum, is at home in Marlboro, NY delivering newspapers for a living and acting as the small town's unofficial private investigator. His brother Natty, a drug dealer in Newburgh, the next town south, is accused of murdering Petey Stahl a high school classmate of the brothers and also a drug dealer. Natty is involved with Petey's wife, which adds motive to the mix. Mitchum jumps into the investigation and it's not difficult to spot the guilty party. Lack of plot development detracts from this tale, although it does possess interesting characters and local flavor.

Malicious is the #2 book in the Mitchum series of BookShots written James Patterson and James O. Born. I started it last night and finished in today. There are times when you just want to read a book quickly - this one was 125 pages. Robert Mitchum is a Navy SEAL dropout and even though he never graduated and must maintain a morning paper route to pay the bills, SEAL training helps him deal with all the bad guys around his home town of Marlboro, New York. Mitchum is the town's unofficial and mostly unpaid private investigator. His drug dealer older brother, Nathaniel is in big trouble and has been arrested and charged with murder. Mitchum will do what it takes to prove "Natty" is innocent and expose the truth.

Mitchum returns, along with his brother, Natty, the local drug dealer. When Petey, another drug dealer, is murdered, Natty becomes the prime suspect. Since the word on the street is that Natty and the victim’s wife are involved, it isn’t long before he finds himself facing a murder charge. Mitchum steps in to find the real killer and to clear his brother’s name.

As with the first Mitchum story, this BookShots tale brings back most of the characters from “Hidden,” adds a few new faces, and delivers a first-rate plot-twisting tale. The final reveal promises to be an unexpected surprise for readers.

Another terrific BookShots

This is my first Mitchum story and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Just like other Bookshots, it is a quick read that sticks closely to plot without a lot of unnecessary details. This makes it perfect for that break from the epic series I love.

Mitchum is a guy who just wants to be of service to his friends and neighbors and for reasons I don't know does it as an unpaid, unofficial private detective. In this story he is out to prove his brother did not commit murder.

The Mitchum stories have earned a place in my bookshelves with Malicious as I will be reading more of them in the future.

A decent twist at the end makes the story even more enjoyable. The story focuses on Mitchum and his investigation of the murder of his friend, of which his brother is accused. The story is tight, the writing is good, and there are just enough twists and turns and this whodunit to make it an interesting and enjoyable read. If you enjoyed the first one I highly recommend you pick this one up as well, as I think you will enjoy it.

This is the second book in Patterson's Mitchum series. It was a quick read - or should I say "quick-listen" since I listened to the audiobook while on a trip in the car. My husband and I both enjoyed the story. It had an action-packed plot and likable characters.

Yikes, I want more Mitchum. I read the first book and want to know what happened to the people in that book. This is a whole separate story with the introduction of new characters and a very different storyline. Mitchum is at the core and the setting is the same and the story is as dynamic BUT I want a whole book about this character.

I really enjoyed the main character in this, and fell in love with his quirks in the first book in the series. Ties to family, a strong military background and a bit of wit, made for an enjoyable and reliable main character. The plot, being condensed, was well enough done and moved at a predictable pace.

Another quick but impactful story. Mitchum is trying to bail his drug dealer brother out of jail this time for a murder he didn't commit. All while trying not to get himself killed. Awesome story.
