September 22, 2017The premise of this book was great but I had a really hard time with this book, and I mean hard time In fact I couldn't fall asleep afterwards and I just didn't like how I felt when I finished this book. This book is riddled with triggers. Honestly I don't know what I would rate this book. I finished it and wanted it to turn around so thats something that I didn't DNF it but still.

Like I said... Bah humbug!
The story was all over the place. So many things made no sense to me. So many inconsistencies and weirdness.
For example, the hero shows up to help his Ex (who he still loves) with her real estate business while she goes on maternity leave. His real life job is running a porn film company and sex toy business. So how does this give him the acumen for real estate?
The hero falls for his Ex's assistant and yet reacts like a fucking loving boyfriend to his Ex when he finds out she broke up with her baby daddy. Then he practically ignores the woman he supposedly loves when he finds out she's preggo. PRICK!
The heroine practically runs the company yet she lives on the brink of poverty. Why the hell was she OK with being paid so little by her so called friend? The excuse in this book doesn't make any logical sense.
The heroine has 1000$ to her name when she relocate to Vegas and gets approved for a loan to open a bakery. REALLY??? I call BS on that shit!

The heroine is a huge doormat for everyone. Co workers, her boss and the love interest, who is only in the picture, to begin with, because he wants to win her boss back ( who is also her friend ).
I would rather read about a heroine that's a bitch than one that's weak and lets herself be used.

I have noticed more & more lately that I find myself adding Ella's books to my ARC/TBR list without really looking at the blurbs. I've read those I liked a lot while others I didn't, but they were all written well. That is the one constant I can count on with her. So I looked forward to this one, knowing it wasn't dark was something that intrigued me. I wanted to see how she handled a "romance" without any of those elements. What astonished me? The reviewers that gave this a 4 or 5 star review.
....like did I get a totally different book or something bc I want to read the 4-5 star worthy version. The one I got really didn't fully earn the 2 stars I gave.
This is in no way a "dig" at the author.... in fact, I think it shows how much her writing has improved in the last 2+ years (this was published in 2017). But to me, Not Sorry lacked in all the ways that Ella delivers on present day.... more on that below.
Book Facts: Told in dual POV, this standalone is an office romance with a HEA. Sean has agreed to come run his ex's real estate firm for her with one sole purpose..... to win her back. Little does he know it will be another woman who will unexpectedly occupy his thoughts (& fantasies). Olive is charged with helping Sean as Jamie's assistant, but she doesn't make the best first impression. When she demands a chance at the new management position, she finds herself in a very different position that blurs the lines of the boss/employee relationship.
Timeline of Thoughts:
Starting: I keep finding my way back to Ella, I'm hoping this one is another goodie.
11%: Something is off with the writing style on this one compared to others from her. It doesn't feel as "seasoned" as her others. I'm not digging it.
19%: I am really at a complete loss.....I had to make sure I was reading an Ella Miles book. There are more repetitive "but"'s than I use in a review (& I use a lot). If it wasn't for how interesting the underlying plot was, this would be a fast entry into the DNF pile.
27%: Maybe its the severe lack of confidence with the heroine that is a complete turn off. But the way she is described paired with the way she carries herself isn't just "weak" but complete "ugly duckling".
36%: That was the most UNCOMFORTABLE & cringey sex scene I have ever read through. I am geniunely confused right now.....this is so unlike the Ella Miles I have grown to like a lot.
52%: This "event" would have been a lot hotter & a lot more badass IF the original situation stayed as is.....it made no sense at all to make it a "misunderstanding" & instead it makes Olive look like an awful, heartless asshole.
55%: The "facts" contradict previous "facts" or end up with older situations/events not making sense at all. Like he had to wait in the cold & considered taking a cab from the airport bc Olive was late, but suddenly now he has multiple assistants in Chicago (his, not from Jamie's company) that are at his disposal & know where Olive lives (even though he just found out this AM)?
85%: This is a big epic mess. Nothing makes sense at all.
89%: OMG I so wanted her to have this big breakthrough moment where she became this badass heroine.... this doesn't help "her cause".
Finished @ 93%: Well I am glad they got their "perfect" HEA BUT I have one issue --- Did they just completely abandon poor Jamie & her business to fail? Not that they really put forth a ton of effort while there anyway.
Final Thoughts:
1. Sean: First impression was really not strong one way or another.
As the story went on, I couldn't get a clear read on him because of the confusing writing. He never really did anything to make me hate him, but nothing stood out that made me love him either.
2. Olive: She has to be the most badly written heroine ever. She is written kinda like "The Princess Diaries" prior to the makeover & work to make her a princess.
At no point is she truly made to be attractive in any way (not just looks either), so its hard to believe in the romance with Sean.
3. Writing: If you break it down to the absolute bare ideas and plot drivers, it is actually a cute story. The problem was that it was poorly executed in every way. Nothing about it reminded me of Ella.....I soon realized why. This isnt a "new" book by her ---its been out since 2017, which is obviously why it felt like a less experienced writer had written it. It is underdeveloped and choppy. Instead of it flowing smoothly, it was all over the place. It felt like she had so many ideas (with a lot of them not even making sense or helping the plot along)& instead of looking at the overall storyline to edit out 50% of these "issues" or "situations", she just threw them all in there.
Her editor or beta readers (at the time) did her a huge injustice by "approving" this.
Normally a couple has 1 big issue that causes angst & a split and maybe a few small issues leading up to it, those issues usually having a relation to the "big" one. In this one, its constant issues that make zero sense or are complete contradictions to earlier events or dialogue.
At its core the single most problem that doomed this book from the very start was the "love story" is absolutely unbelievable. You never feel the attraction from him until suddenly he is "in love" and she doesn't even love herself or find herself attractive. I dont know what happened with this one, but it definitely wasn't Ella at her finest.

Not Sorry, is a wonderful book about how Olive grew into the woman she is meant to be. Strong, independent, lovable and not sorry.
Sean is a hot business minded man but when he meets lovable klutzy Olive all bets are off, the attraction simmers but later sparkles. They are the opposite of each other but are two sides of the same coin.
Well written, good characters. Definitely recommend, this was a wonderful way to pass my afternoon.

I received this as a free ARC and am leaving my honest review. This book was very sweet in way. It is kind of a taboo romance in that Shaun is the boss and Olive the employee, but the owner of the company brought Shaun in to run her business as well as play matchmaker. I wanted to pummel Olive's boyfriend/ ex every time he showed up in the story.

I don't even know what this was supposed to be. The poor heroine is mistreated and taken advantage of by her so-called best friend, her "love interest" who only wanted to get the best friend back and almost anyone.
A big no, the blurb was great but once it got to the characters I was done.

This is my first book by this author and most definitely won't be my last. From the very first page to the very last page, Ella Miles has written a great romance story with a great storyline, well-developed characters, attraction, unexpected twists and turns, secrets, sassy banter, steamy scenes, and a happily ever after.

This is the 1st book I have read by the author n I had to read it a few times before deciding to write my review. It's written in 2 POV, so u need to know what motivates both main characters. There r some inconsistencies n some typos but that never influences my rating. Unless the book makes no sense or misses the mark of a well thought of plot.. Contrary to some reviews that's not what I found in this book. While it did stretch my comfort zone in some areas, I did find it enjoyable.
Sean Burrows is an arrogant, sexy, bossy n wealthy jerk. But he does have his moments. Deep down he's also kind, courteous, funny n knows how to treat a lady. Most of the time, only one thing truly motivates him until he meets Olive. He's used to women literally throwing themselves at him just to have sex with him. But he just thinks Olive is a total mess. The more he interacts with her he decides to make her his "pet project". What he doesn't realize is that she is actually more woman than he can even manage.
Olive Porter is an assistant at Parks Real Estate owned by her friend Jamie. She's sent to pick up Sean at the airport by Jamie, who's currently pregnant. She arrives late, makeup on only half of her face, legs r bare, the smallest yet puffiest pink coat on n carrying a cup of coffee. She was told he was European. So she leans in to kiss him on both cheeks but not only winds up kissing him on the mouth but also spilling the coffee on him. What a klutz. Her job at the office is a joke. Everyone treats her like dirt expecting her to do all the menial tasks. Such as making coffee, running errands, n her specialty making baking cookies for their open houses. Without any regard to her feelings except for her friends Jamie n Keri. They know that underneath lies an intelligent strong woman if only she would stop saying she's " sorry" or trying to please everyone.
The following is an excerpt from the ending. I thought it appropriate since Sean had never ever said he was sorry for anything in his life. Which goes to prove that some things r not what they seem n u should never judge a book by its cover.
"I'm sorry for not saying sooner that I love u Olive. I'm sorry I let u walk out of my life without running after u. I'm sorry that I didn't call u every night since then. I'm sorry I almost let u go to a doctors appointment by yourself. I'm sorry I never believed in us. I do now. Please give me a second chance."
Olive's response, "I'm not sorry that u were a total ass to me when we 1st met. I'm not sorry that I hated u initially. I'm not sorry that I had sex with u, (not the actual word used), too many times to count. I'm not sorry I quit my job. I'm not sorry for any of it because it got me to this point".
It took an arrogant self centered jerk to push n cajol Olive out of her normal "comfort" zone to become a strong independent woman instead of a "doormat". But she also had some teachings of her own to give. One's that changed a certain someone(s). Take a closer look at this story and read for itself. As I said before never judge a book by it's cover but instead try to see the complex subtleties of the entire plot.

Sean Uses Unconventional Methods When He Trains Olive For A Promotion In This Kooky Romance!
Olive is a hot mess. She has difficulty keeping up with her boyfriend Owen and her job, always overextended and trying to be everything for everyone. It doesn’t earn her any respect, though, because everyone takes her for granted. She has no self-confidence and apologizes for everything. She regularly goes without sleep because she cannot keep up with all her promises. Olive has worked at Parks Real Estate for five years. She knows how to run the office despite her lack of education and no real estate license. She works as the assistant to Jamie Parks, the owner and her best friend. Loyalty has kept her at the job despite her meager earnings, but she holds out hope that she will get the promotion to manager that she has been vying for.
After promising himself never to return to Chicago, Sean Burrows finds himself in the Windy City once again. He couldn’t refuse Jaime, even a year later. He loves her and would do anything for her. And maybe she would take him back in the end. It was a little strange when she sent her kooky assistant to pick him up at the airport instead of coming herself. Olive was oddly attractive, but she wasn’t his type at all. He liked strong, confident women. Women that were more like him. But the idea that he might stay a few days to help Jaimie and be rewarded with a date is promptly dashed when he shows up at Parks Real Estate. Jamie had asked for help, but he had no idea just how much help she needed. She asks him to run her company for her for at least a few months, maybe a year – and she happens to be very much off the market. But their friendship runs deep and Sean would still do anything for Jaimie, even if it appears that her stated purpose for needing his help isn’t the entire truth.
Sean and Olive’s kooky story is about two colorful characters that stumble into love. Sean is a mystery. He is rich, but other than that little is known about him other than the fact that he adores Jaimie and she thinks the world of him despite their breakup. Olive is a bit of a mystery as well. Her one year anniversary with her musician boyfriend Owen approaches and she has high hopes for their future, despite the fact that her friends aren’t convinced he is right for her. But she is loyal to a fault, as evidenced by her mysterious devotion to Jaimie. As Sean and Olive give in to desire, Sean’s character begins to be more defined. Despite his dark side, a vulnerability emerges. Olive retains her kooky character to the end, which helps to bring about a fitting end. The couple earns a happy ending.

There are a few things that don’t exactly add up, but most is somewhat explained eventually. The story is written in first person. The POV alternates between Sean and Olive. I rate this book four stars.

I received an ARC of Not Sorry from Ms. Miles, and this is my honest review.
Olive, a shy lady lacking in self-confidence, is the assistant to her best friend and boss, Jamie. Sean, an alpha male full of confidence, cockiness, and always gets what he wants, is a friend and former partner to Jamie. When Jamie calls Sean to come run her company while she takes some time off, he does not expect to be picked up at the airport by clumsy Olive. Olive not only spills coffee on Sean, but she also disastrously introduces him to the company. When Sean decides to offer someone the opportunity to become a manager in his absence, Olive jumps at the opportunity. When Sean decides to give Olive a chance to prove herself, the sensual attraction and her confidence blossoms under his direction. As Olive and Sean get to know each other better, their intense attraction comes to a climax. Will Sean learn to let Olive in and be truthful to himself? Will Olive learn to stand up for herself and demand the respect and attention that she deserves? Will they allow their attraction to fizzle out and each go their separate ways?
I highly enjoyed Not sorry by Ms. Miles. I found this to be a quick read and full of surprises. Sean, Olive, Jamie, and others were well-developed. The plot was continuous and held me captive. I literally could not put the book down, and I finished it in a few hours. I love all of Ms. Miles' work. The sensual scenes were enthralling and intense. It does end with a HEA. This is not one of her dark romances, but it's light and amusing. I highly recommend this book to those 18+ due to the language and sexual scenes. Thank you Ms. Miles for allowing me to read your book. I look forward to reading more of your work.

This romance was a little different than the ones I've read lately. Sean and Olive really didn't like each other when they first met. This was not love at first sight, or even close. Sean is convinced he already loves another woman and thinks Olive is a mess. She finds him arrogant and knows he's in love with another woman.
I enjoyed how their relationship develops and would have given it five stars except for something I didn't like toward the end. I don't want to give any spoilers so I'll just say that I thought her trip to the store and what she discovers were completely unnecessary for the story. I think she still would have taken the action she did regarding her job and life because of how she thought Sean felt. That discovery led to an encounter with her ex which diminished the strength of how she ended things with him and I really didn't like how that discovery was resolved. I also feel like Jamie wasn't a true friend based on how much she underpaid Olive. She claims it was because she wanted her to move on to better things, but that doesn't excuse keeping her at a poverty level salary and not providing any training to improve her skills. A real friend would have helped her find success and not passive-aggressively hoped that Olive would move on because she was treating her badly. Especially since Olive is a loyal friend.
This was a small part of the story, enough to bump it down from five stars to four, but not enough that I didn't enjoy the overall story. I received a free copy for an honest review.

A great read with a few twists and turns I didn’t see coming which mad the book that more enjoyable and kept me reading to see what else this author could throw at me...I wasn’t disappointed.
Olive is one of those types that apologizing for everything, lacking confidence but once you fire her up she doesn’t hold back and shows there is more to her than meets the eye...a great surprise.

Their story is twists and turns right to the end and I loved her reaction when she finds out who Sean really is, not expecting that which endeared me to her even more. Sean tries his hardest not to fall for Olive, going so far as to let her in and almost hopping that she will hate him, making it easier for him to walk away but it only makes him more vulnerable in my eyes.
A great read with steamy scenes and twists and turns (of the good kind), a story that is not typical like all the others but was quite refreshing and new. Not Sorry is signature Ella Miles - sexy with interesting, layered characters. But, in this case, I absolutely could not stand the hero, Sean.
Olivia has been working for her boss for 5 years. Her boss isn't just her boss, though, she's her best friend. Olivia has been working toward, she thinks, the managerial position in this real estate company, until out of the blue her boss brings in one of her friends (actually, he's not just a friend, he's her boss' ex) to run the company while Jaime (the boss) is on bed rest while she's pregnant. To say Olivia and Sean's meeting is less than friendly is an understatement. Sean isn't impressed by Olivia, whom he perceives to be a klutz (she is), and incompetent (she isn't). But, somehow, he's also attracted to her, even though he's still in love with Jaime. So, he decides to sex up Olivia, all while pining over Jaime.
Things happen, Olivia bows out, and things are a big fat mess, until Sean finally mans up at the end and gets back his girl.
I don't hate Not Sorry, but it really irritated me to no end. I loved Olivia, even though she was entirely too forgiving of both Sean and Jaime, but Sean and even Jaime are the worst. They treat Olivia horribly and she deserved much better. But, because Not Sorry is sexy and engaging, even though it and Sean and Jaime irritated me, I can give it 4 stars because it's well written and not easily forgettable.

Enjoyable, hot romance. An interesting book telling a romance that develops between two people, who, if not really hating each other initially, certainly lack sympathy for one another. One is a self-assured alpha male Sean, whose business acumen comes from questionable sources, the other is a very poor, total mess of an ambitious assistant Olivia, with a habit to apologise for everything and to everybody.
Sean’s feelings are very ambiguous, determined to have sex with Olivia only once, yet can’t stop kissing her and wanting her. Olivia’s attitude is similar, convinced that her feelings vs, her physical needs are totally different. Sean’s desire to bring the strong, self-assured Olivia to the surface to give her ambitions of becoming management material a chance is very well handled. Some of the polarity in their attitude is at times confusing, particularly the shift in Ryan’s emotional attachment from Jamie hasn’t been addressed fully, but the heart wants what the heart wants. The characters are very well developed, and their actions are well justified according to their personalities. The book is very steamy, hot, hot with language to accompany their exploits.
Irrespective of their backgrounds, they find their soul mates in one another and their true love against all odds leads to a HEA, making this a great romantic read.

What a quirky and funny read. Olive is Jamie's secretary at a real estate office and has been there for five years. It seems that Jamie dumps everything on Olive and never gave her a raise or a promotion or anything. Does not seem like friendship to me... but Olive and Jamie are best friends and Jamie is the owner of the company. When Jamie reaches out to Sean to run the company for a year in her absence, he agrees because he always had a soft spot for her. When Olive meets Sean and there after she keeps bungling up and it is very funny. Sean automatically prejudges Olive as incompetent and treats her abominably. Thus is the beginning of the romance between Olive and Sean. Sean shows her what he does for a living because he is afraid it will turn her off and leave him. But that was not the case. Anyway back to Jamie: we find out why she never gave Olive a raise or promotion and how they became friends. Olive taking blame for something that occurred between Jamie and Sean decides it is best for her to bow out of their way and moves to Las Vegas. She starts her own business. She and Sean find their way back to each other and we have a HEA. It is a great read and I highly recommend it. I voluntarily received a free copy of this book from the Author through Bookfunnel.

I absolutely loved this book. Sean thinks he is in love with Jamie and would do anything for her. So when she calls and tells him she needs his help, he jumps on the next flight and runs to her aid. Little does he know she is pregnant and needs him to run her business for the next year.
Olive is Jamie’s assistant. She thinks she should be given the responsibility to run the office and a raise while Jamie is out on leave. It is almost like a slap in the face when that’s not what happens and Sean becomes her new boss. However, Sean decides he needs a manager so maybe there is a chance she can get what she wants after all.
When Sean looks at Olive he sees a woman that doesn’t have an assertive bone in her body. When he interviews her for the manager he sees something in her that might mean there is something there. He agrees to give her the job as long as she passes training.
There are many ups and downs and I had to know what was going to happen between Sean,Olive, and Jamie so I may have stayed up too late finishing this one.

I have really mixed emotions about this book. Arrogant jerks don't make good romantic heroes in real life. That's the voice of experience talking. Because of that, I get extremely uncomfortable reading them as the male romantic lead. Sean has made 'arrogant jerk' into an art form and he is so skilled at it that I hated him for pretty much the whole book. I always consider it a rousing success for the author when I have this kind of gut-level reaction to a character. Olive starts the book as the definition of a doormat. I fully sympathize with her people-pleasing tendencies. Sean's bad behavior is good for one thing: it snaps the steel back into Olive's spine and makes her stand up for herself. While I was cringing over his latest jerk-ish antics, I was also laughing at the snappy, sassy banter during their interactions. I loved watching Olive regain her self-confidence. I'll admit I was as confused as Sean during his "a-hah!" moment, but it was a joy to witness him realize just how far he'd come from when he first met Olive in the airport.

In fact, he was in love with her boss Jamie who was pregnant by another man. His backstory and big reveal of his job also linked him with Jamie intimately, and I felt Olive’s feelings for Sean was off balanced.
As for Olive, was she the glue that held Jamie’s business together? And if so, why did it seem like everyone took advantage of her?
The relationships were all over the place. Sean who initially loved Jamie. Jamie who got pregnant by her whirlwind relationship with her new boyfriend, but broke up with him shortly after finding out she was pregnant. Olive and her boyfriend who treated her badly and for the weird way she found out about his sister, and finally Olive and Sean with his job and past involvement with his job.

This was amaze balls! Sean is in love with Jamie and would do anything to help her with anything! Olive is the klutzy assistant to Jamie and runs errands for her. It was a fun read to me. Olive was a klutz, but she was also very smart, training yourself how to do something that you are not licensed or have the formal education to do shows drive. I think she lets her coworkers push her over or rather take advantage of her because of how she got the job, she's an over-achiever and wants to please everyone. Sean is all alpha and a lot more man then she could ever handle, his relationship with Jamie (Olive's boss) did make things a little weird especially because he still has feelings for Jamie. He already had the love 'em leave 'em player characteristic so that was enough without his feelings for Jamie lingering, it only planted doubt his love for Olive so I didn't really like that part...made me think about the old song..with the "love the one you're with" lyrics. :) Anyways... their chemistry is off the charts & once all the dirty laundry got aired they realized that it's ok to be sorry, sometimes just not all the time. Olive is definitely the "better half" and everything Sean never knew he wanted.....(loved that line)!

I received an ARC for an honest review. Hmm, for me this book was all over the place started sort of Fifty Shade-ish and then had me confused. Olive is shy and naive and doesn't realize how her existing boyfriend Owen doesn't treat her right. Boss Jamie brings in a male friend, Sean to run her business while out on maternity and overlooks Olive her friend for the office position. Sean sees Olive as weak and decides he just wants to have sex with her play with her to toughen her up. A lot transpires and the question in my mind is what happened to Olive where Jamie saved her 5 years ago. I find out along the way, but still a lot of questions, what happened to her family, how she ended up the way she did with no education and other factors. Sean who is still in love with Jamie is now consumed with Olive in a short time and distraught about what she will think of him once she realizes how he makes his million. Also what is the real relationship between Sean and Jamie. This definitely was not your typical erotic steamy romance.

Olive is trying to get ahead in the world and in her own way, she keeps preventing that from happening. And by that, I mean that she is literally and figuratively a klutz. She holds the office together but she doesn’t know what the next step should be to prove her value. In walks Sean, the billionaire friend of Jamie, her boss, to run the business while she’s out on maternity leave.
Most people would probably leave when they don’t get the promotion that they expect but Olive is not most people. She hates Sean, he thinks she’s a disaster. Perfect ingredients for an unexpected love story. I think you’ll find that this is really a unique but fun read. Don’t take it so seriously!

Seems simple, but is surprising and unpredictable
Excellent story, very well written, which seems simple at the beginning but for which each reversal is unpredictable. The story begins oddly with a man, Sean, owner of a big business without anyone really knowing what he's doing, who comes to help his former love, Jamie, because she knows he would do everything for her. Now he discovers that he cannot say no to her, but that he will never have her either. He must assume 1 year at the head of her real estate agency and for that, he has no right to fireJamie's assistant: Olive. The latter seems to be a bit shy, clumsy, and spends her time apologizing, which Sean does not support. However, he is attracted to her and decides to train her to become a manager.
From then on, the story changes completely and becomes fascinating, more complex and sometimes torrid.
