The full novel based on this short story is now available.
Josh is mid divorce, fighting for custody of his son and escaping a marriage built on lies. In a bar the night before final hearings he meets a hooker with a body made of sin.
Just one night of being true to himself, one night of being held down and made to feel? Surely that isn’t too much to ask?

For a short story, this was pretty good. It actually had a plot that managed to surprise me. Twice. I didn't know anything about it prior to reading it, only what the blurb says, so I had no idea what to expect. I only wish the story was continued, because this reads like a prologue.
My first RJ Scott story and I really liked the writing.
I don't know what this is, but it's not romance. It's very well written but reads as a teaser for a longer book, and maybe it is, I'm just not aware of it. Ends with no HEA or HFN, with the mother of all cliffhangers. No idea how to rate.
For the most part RJS' books are middle of the road to me. Not terrible, but not outstanding. Sounds harsh, BUT...
I wish this had been a fleshed out novel because I actually REALLY liked this one. (If it is a whole novel please let me know which one because there are like 172 kajillion RJS titles to sift through and I'm not up for that right now. THANKS!)
Before starting this short story, the author tells the reader that this was meant to be a small sample of her writing style to see if it was something that you would like. I have to say, that I did indeed like it. Josh and Ethan were characters that I instantly wanted to know more about, and I was truly upset that the ending came so fast. I would have loved for this to be a full sized story. The ending left me surprised, and I would have loved to see where this story could have gone.
Can anyone help me find my jaw? I think it ran off somewhere.
This was beyond amazing. And so short! Impressive. But still, even if it was short, the story was clear and well solved. I am in awe. I want to read all the things by this author, I swear.
Started with a sexy sex to go, ended with a brilliant plot! Sweet and short but I need more. Because Ethan saod something that tickled my curiosity. More please!!!
It's not often you read a 14 page story and are left feeling so much for the characters. Angsty and real. Interesting storyline and enjoyable writing style. This was my first read by this author, but won't be my last.
Well, this was a pleasant surprise. Sexy, hot, and a story-- all in 14 pages! I really want more of these guys. Their story is intriguing. And did I say hot? LOL! Very nice.
A sexy little snippet of story from a "new to me" author. Great characters, would love to hear more about these two. Definitely plan to read more from R.J. Scott!
This book isn't just insanely hot, it also comes with two story twists that I didn't expect. The lead-in is deceptive, yet, with hindsight, a hint that something maybe not entirely "normal" was going on. I was too distracted to notice at the time, but it does fit.
Josh is a great guy, who has tried to be straight for years. Now that he's getting a divorce, he is desperate to be himself for once and forget the whole mess. He is fighting for custody of his son, and I figure he just wants one last night of fun before the hearing. He is attracted to Ethan and decides to go for it. What follows is very, very hot man-on-man action.
And then the twist hits!
If you like hot stories with a major surprise, if you enjoy reading about men who are desperate to feel and follow their hearts, and if you're looking for a short, hot read, then you will probably enjoy this free short story.
This was an excellent free short story and would have made a great full length novel. The ending really left me hanging for more.
The author states at the beginning that this short story is a "taster for my style of writing". I have read her Texas series which I enjoyed and based on this taster I will definitely be reading more of her books.
My first introduction to R.J. Scott's writing style is this free, very short sample.
I enjoyed it and would love if it was inspiration for a full length story. In the few pages I was really drawn into both of the characters and the situation. I will definitely be checking out some of her full length writing.
Wow, I didn't see that coming. I almost feel like I should go back and do a reread to get it. Good short story by one of my favorite authors. A little confusing toward the end though. I would love to see a full-length version of this.
A great short read, a man sick of hiding his love of men decides to hit a bar and find a man for the night. He watches a man who turns down everyone till Josh walks over and then gets what he needs, to have his fantasies fulfilled after all the years trying to pretend to be someone he's not.
Ok, sooooo, somewhere, somehow I saw a reference to a freebie book by Rj Scott which beggars belief that I'd not read it.... seriously, stated, by the author, as an unedited short story, penned with lil' finesse. I can't find the original post to comment on, so I'll have to yell very loudly (or tag) to get some attention. (...or tell everyone here how much I enjoyed it and loved the twists)
I just want to state, unequivocally, that it's NOT a short story but a brilliant first chapter of a book, which doesn't need editing....but, I gotta ask....where the hell is the rest of it?????
