4 Opposites Attract, Second Chance Romance Stars!
Fate plays it’s hand when Duke’s car breaks down on a deserted back road, and Cammie, who lives down the street, offers to give him a ride to town.
Stranded hundreds of miles from home, with little money on him, Duke has to wait days for the car part to come in. Cammie, against her better judgment, offers him a place to stay. He is a moody and scowling man, but oh so easy on the eyes. Sharing the same space proves to be more trouble than it’s worth until they start to open up to one another and discover they’re helping each other heal from devastating, emotional wounds.
I knew Duke was hot the minute I first laid eyes on him. I knew he’d be a handful when I invited him to stay. Hell, I knew he’d get under my skin when he first criticized where I keep my coffee. But damn, I never expected to be blindsided with feelings for him like I have been.
Trouble is Duke is only staying long enough until his broken down car is fixed. A week, tops!
This is an opposites attract, second chance romance that warmed my heart. I found it to have a great storyline with great dialogue and down to earth characters I easily connected with. I also enjoyed the moments of humor shared between Cammie and Duke. It definitely had the steam factor as well.
This is my first read by this author. I really enjoyed her writing abilities, and my favorite, a dual POV.

Dois corações quebrados, duas almas atormentadas por seus passados.

É difícil não sentir e compreender a dor deles, saber o que os levou a simplesmente "existir" e por fim, torcer para que encontrem seus caminhos. A autora conseguiu construir personagens convincentes e apaixonantes.

Adorei esse livro e de como ele despertou tantas emoções. As vezes não temos explicação, determinados livros/histórias apenas mexem com a gente e marcam. Esse com certeza ganhou um espaço no meu coração. <3

Echoes in the Storm by Max Henry was a romantic story with a heartbreaking undertone. This was the journey of two beautifully broken people who never gave up even when they thought their lives were over. Even when the chaos that was their past suck the life out of them.
Fate decided that their worlds collided. But it was their hearts that decided if being together was the answer...but sometimes, in order to heal you just need to go on a solo trip.
So here's the thing, Echoes in the Storm was well written, with likable characters. And I'm sure it will unleash an emotional chaos in some readers, but... there's always a but...I wasn't able to connect with any of it. It was like I was just looking at the story from afar, like a stranger. I could appreciate the beautiful words but I didn't feel them.
So don't let my black heart dissuade you from picking this up. Chances are I'm emotionally dead and you will love this one.

This book deals with many difficult and painful topics , it has many strong heartbreaking moments, it’s dark and light, it makes you think about life.
In my opinion, the issues in this story needed deeper and gentler approach. I had a felling MC’s relationship and tight bond was a bit too rushed. I missed depth of their feelings and, as I mentioned above, I think the main themes had to be handled more soulful and emotional.

Such a beautiful, heartbreaking emotional read!!
One week!!
Is one week enough to alter the paths of two broken souls?
The journey that Duke and Cammie embark is full of heartache!!
Can they find a light in the darkness that surrounds them.
An emotional read that had you rooting for this couple.
The tilted Echoes in the Storm is a perfect one!!
Duke and Cammie have lost so much!! Felt too much pain!!
Both try to fill the emptiness with two totally different ways.
Duke pushes everyone away!!
Cammie is non stop!! Always on the move!!
Fate brings these two together!! Is it enough though? Will they fight to be together!!

another smashing book from Max Henry that pulls at your heart strings and causes you to develop these intense feelings for these two characters who on their own are broken, jagged pieces but when you mesh them together they fit seamlessly - creating this once in a life time love story that you will remember long after finishing.

Wow where do i begin with how much i loved this story, From the first chapter i loved this book and couldn't wait to read more so when i saw i got an ARC i was so excited, This was every bit a good as i though it would be, It's a hard story for both Cam and Duke and i loved how they found each other. I really don't want to give too much away so i will say that if you like/love a story about people finding love when they least expect it then read this.

This book almost killed me, their tragedy was so painful. But who knew a story about two broken souls could be so beautiful. It's an emotional read, dark and sad but I loved Cam and Duke together. They understood each other's pain I truly believe they were meant to meet. I loved it.

So as I read a new book I bookmark, highlight and make notes to help me process my review; this book, this story, these characters are just so consuming that I had a plethora of awesome quotes to choose from that define how I feel about this.
"Living life afraid of the what-ifs is letting death win before you've even reached the final act."
That sentiment right there is how this book left me feeling that each day should be embraced and cherished...lived not survived. And this is what this story encompasses for me. Two characters that find themselves in each other's path, two natural disasters that collide with force. Both dealing with the ravages of the aftermath of life changing events, neither one ready to face the devastation or embrace the new version of themselves. They are hiding from the works, hiding from themselves yet can see each other so clearly that it's painful. It's a beautifully symbiotic relationship that tears them down, strips away the veneer of coping and rebuilds something stronger from the pieces. Survival. Redemption. Forgiveness. This story is hauntingly emotive, beautifully written and has an empathetic feel to it that burrows right into the readers heart and soul. Duke is so magnificently broken yet he can still see how to help Cam. Cam is effortlessly loving and giving, making him see there is more to life than just existing. I have never wanted characters to find their happily ever after so much! Honestly chapter 28 found tears tracking down my cheeks and the ending chapters from 31 was just wonderfully raw and compellingly written that I was totally lost to the story. In short this is one of the most devastatingly wonderful reads of the year that left me feeling wrecked and ruined in the best possible way.
A five star have you found your echo in the storm read.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review for Stephanie's Book Reports.
Echoes in the Storm is an emotionally beautiful book about Duke and Cammie. Both have pasts that have broken them. Duke has served overseas in the army and is having a hard time adjusting to civilian life. He has however tried but can't seem to find the right job or place to live. When his brother asks him to go get a car he is buy miles away from home Duke agrees and goes but as he sits on the side of the road with the drive shaft in the trunk he is regretting this trip. Does he stay with the car or leave it. This leads to a meeting with Cammie. Cammie has a past she is running from too. A ex husband and a house she refuses to let go of because of the memories it holds. Cammie though is a really nice person and offers Duke shelter for the night until he can get the car towed and fixed to get back to where he is going. However as with car trouble things are not always easy and it is going to take a while before the car will be ready and he ends back up at Cammie's house. This is the beginning of their journey. One that will have you laughing and crying. I loved these characters and I rooted for them so hard. I have to say too I hate Cammie's ex Jared. Someone needs to meet him in a alley and teach him a thing or two. He is absolutely horrible to her and I just wanted to punch him so hard.
Echoes in the Storm is an emotional rollercoaster that will have you reading from beginning to end. You will be so invested in these characters you will not want the book to end. Max Henry has such an amazing ability to pull you so deeply into her books that you lose track of everything going on around you. This is a must read in my book.

Echoes in the Storm is a bundle of tension! I don't think I took a deep breath the entire time I was reading. Duke and Cammie's story is so poignant, full of so much pain and heartbreak. Ultimately, it's a story of survival, of second and last chances, of love. It's the light at the end of a long, dark path. I loved it.
Duke is a broken veteran. His body and soul are scarred from his time at war. He's full of anger and guilt. Cammie is the veteran of a much different battle. She's suffered the worst loss a mother can endure and lost her husband along the way. She's consumed by guilt, self-hate, and remorse. Both suffer from PTSD. While it seems that these two could only bring more pain into the life of the other, the truth is just the opposite. By sharing their pain, they each have a chance to begin to heal and move forward. They can offer balance, forgiveness, a future.
This book is beautifully written. I work with survivors with PTSD. Max Henry captured their struggle on page. Duke's need to push everyone away, Cammie's total self-giving; both forms of avoidance, both ways to punish oneself. Their inner turmoil, their common need for redemption. So much pain! Neither can undo the past, there is no way to fix what has happened. Maybe though they can begin to understand that they aren't to blame.
If you believe in fate, in second chances, in love, this is absolutely the book for you!

Sometimes when you read as much as I do, you forget how much you love certain author’s writing styles and books. This very thing happened with Max Henry. I forgot how much I adore her books and Echoes In The Storm has me not only wishing I had time right now to read it all over again as well as her other books, but that I could experience it like it is the first time all over again.
Echoes In The Storm is emotional, angst filled, heart wrenching and I loved every minute of it. I love it when a book makes me FEEL and this one did just that. Duke and Cammie have a shot at a second chance, but will the time they have together be enough to work everything out? You have to read it to find out obviously because I am not going to tell you but I will give you this piece of advice. Buy stock in tissues and plan on not going anywhere because your eyes will be puffy and red from crying, or mine were at least.
If you can’t tell by now I LOVED this book and is one that must be on your TBR lists!

Where do I begin to describe, how I feel after reading this truly beautiful book. It's not your conventional love story. It's dark, heartbreaking and has a wow factor that hits you hard. Leaving you reeling from the emotions that tackles you completely and leaves you spent, with tears flowing.
The story of Cammie and Duke is everything, the story is gripping, thought provoking and has a passion that is hard to describe if I am honest. The connection is instant and you can tell that these 2 broken souls are ment to be. The story isn't complicated or have a harsh fight. It's book about fate. This is a story I feel needs to be read. It's therapy in a great story.
This story has all I hope for in my life. It gives you hope that through the darkness and pain. That things are hopeful, to never say never. And that although at the moment I am deaf I will eventually find my peace and hear my echo.
This book is a must read and I will be recommending this amazing storu from and author whom I feel isn't afraid to be a little different. Here's to us all hearing our echo eventually.

Slow burning romance…
What an emotional journey this touching romance took me on….Duke, a broken soldier and Cammie, a woman unable to move on from a devastating past …this is a story of loss, self loathing, forgiveness and redemption….
I loved the writing and the believable characters who populated the pages… Duke and Cammie are such lost and broken souls … the author skillfully describes their vulnerability and the protective coping mechanisms they implement to hide from their memories and from those who might force them to face their demons… I was completely invested in these two who seem to be at loggerheads more often than not....their relationship is full of humour, anger, denial and drama

I'm the midst of chaos, two souls not only fought past demons, but fought for a future in the light . Darkness encased both Duke and Cammie - but with the help of each other' , love , brought light within their darkness and a future that encased two broken souls entwined to move forward .
Heartbreakingly beautiful in its darkness.
Max Henry has delivered us a believable story of heartbreak , love and loss and shown us that love can heal and take us many places .

I am a huge fan of Max Henry and Reading this book my love for her written words grew!! She took two broken people who were each battling their own demons and made such an amazing story!! This is such at touching story Cammie omg what she went through(and I'm not saying I don't want to spoil it) was heart breaking, then Duke being in the service is rough but the turmoil he went though!! This book has all the feeling you need in a book, I laughed, my heart hurt for them and I was in awe!! Max you truly are an amazing author! Thank you for an amazing story!! Highly recommend this book!!

What would you do if you saw someone sitting outside your house in a broke down vehicle?
I knew what I would do.....but then I read Echoes in the Storm and it had me rethinking what I thought I would do. The character development between Cammie and Duke was spot on. Cammie is dealing with some problems from a prior relationship and Duke is learning how to trust again. The relationship that develops between them is priceless!
This was the first book I read by Max Henry and I absolutely loved it and plan on reading more.

I just loved this wonderful story. The characters Cam and Duke were both very interesting in their own way, they'd both had issues in their pasts which they had to over come, but were still completely different to each other. Not to give too much away, it was interesting to see how they both changed as their friendship grew. It's a story about two lost people finally finding hope and a love neither of them expected.

Where to start with this amazingly wonderful beautiful emotional story. The characters Cam and Duke are intriguing in their own way but with the issues from their pasts they were struggling to overcome and move on. Not going to do spoilers but it was hypnotising in a way that you get so drawn into their story about these lost souls who maybe finally find the hope and love neither of them expected or thought they deserved. AMAZING READ............

Duke & Cami are drowning in their own guilt from traumatic events that left them incapable of functioning normally. On a chance encounter, they find one another and discover a path to healing. But Duke is running on limited time and they both feel the pressure to find each other in the storm of their lives. This was a wonderful story of healing and living again. Duke and Cami work perfectly together because they both can identify with their experiences and find the paths needed to heal that they weren't willing to find alone. I loved how they worked together and gave each other the space they needed to get to the same point as one, even though it came with a little more pain. You can't see the summit without first traveling the valleys.

The beginning of this book was already tugging at my heart strings between Jared & Cammie. I wanted to know what she did when he said, "You need to own up to what you did."

Echoes in the Storm is a heart wrenching Military themed contemporary romance from Max Henry. Set in New Zealand, Duke is doing his brother a favor & ends up stranded falling into a chance meeting with Cammie who turns out to be "a sweet surprise on what's turning out to be a hell of a day.", a day that is fated to change everything for the both of them.
Told in first person from dual perspectives, with a few flash-backs, this is a fast paced romantic story of two strangers who have experienced some of the worst things this life can deal out - altering them forever. This is my first Max Henry read & I'm not sure what I was expecting based solely on the blurb, but this book delivered so much more. I love Cammie, her verbal diarrhea & how she is so caring in spite of "...enduring a personal hell of her own...". Duke & his sexy/carnal 'say it like it is' ways; his ability to put it all out there. Through it all, they still have hope. I loved the connection between these characters that seems fast from a timeline perspective, but is written it in such a way that you forget Cammie & Duke are strangers at the start. The way this story unfolds "People don't come into your life without purpose; they always have a role to play." just couldn't get enough.
"I'm still here," he murmurs. Three little words, and he seals the hole in my heart."

Cam knew if she just kept going trough the motions of the day,life would pass by with absolutely no hurt or heartbreak. No one could make her come to terms with how she lived until one day a handsome stranger breaks down in front of her house. There is something about the stranger that speaks volumes to her but now she just has to figure out what exactly he is saying.
Duke knew going o get his P.O.S car was a bad idea, but what else did he have to do? Being back from war has him with so many emotional hangups and quirks, that getting a normal job is totally out of the question. so when his brother called, Duke did as he was asked. Now he is broke down hours away from home and no place to go. Just when he thinks he is out of options, a grey haired savior comes to his rescues in more ways that he intended.
Both Cam and Duke start a awkward friendship but after both open up about their issues, both come to realize that they aren't that different as one may think. However can both come together and battle their fears? Or will their issues be too much for one another?
Echos in the Storm is not your typical happy go lucky romance novel. Is it a love story? Damn right it is but what each character has to go through is in itself heartbreaking. There are not many books that steal a piece of my heart and I am the type of reader who will read a story and not think twice about it. But this book it had me wanting more.....More of their HEA and just...well more of Cam and Duke. However with Echos, it not only had me asking questions but left somewhat of a impact on not only my heart but my soul as well. I am not going to lie and say that I jumped into this book as soon as it hit my Kindle. It took me 4 days to even crack it open. Something about he way Max writes gets me every time and I find myself having to mentally prepare myself for one of her stories because I know they are going to kick my butt.

This is my first ever Max Henry book & I'm really pleased I chose this one to break my cherry without doubt. I love all things military & having read the blog & fallen in love with the premise of this story I couldn't wait to dive straight in.
Honestly from start to finish this story tugged at my heart strings & didn't let me go. It is gorgeous, yet so beautifully sad. It's a story about such heartbreaking tragedies that destroy your soul & leave just an empty shell behind. It's about the darkness that such loss brings & it how it threatens to swallow you whole. It's about survival & the means to an end in order to reach another day. It's about shame & how you hide who are & the burdens you carry from the world because of shame, fear & anger the rule your life.
Duke & Cam have lost so much, including themselves in the aftermath. Fate brought them together. Strength brought them peace. Hope brought them happiness & Love, well love brought them forever.
Their journey was so sad at times. It was beautiful to see how their worlds come into focus when they least expect it & how they both flourished in each others presence. I loved how although they were both broken, they actually both had a quiet strength to them that they didn't even realise. It made my heart ache how they tried so hard to help the other, not even thinking about trying to help themselves & I adored just how brave they both were in fighting the demons that nearly destroyed them in hope for a better tomorrow & a future they were both worthy of.
I thought Max developed their relationship perfectly, with a great flow & pace to their journey. It had some truly heart felt moments that will stay with me a while.

I must admit that this is my first read by this author, but I have seen her name floating around on my FB timeline lately, so I thought to give this release a try.
AND I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED!😍
Max Henry has a talent for words and once I stayed still long enough to start reading, I did not want to stop. I wanted to devour Cammie and Duke's story.
Cammie suffers from an all consuming guilt and keeps herself on the go with work, volunteer work, fundraisers, and just nonsensical chit-chat to keep from confronting that guilt. Her ex-husband, Jared, is now pressuring her to sell the home they once shared in order to move on with his life and not have to think of their past together (I hurt for her in this scene). One day, she notices her police officer cousin, Shane, giving a motorist a bit of a hard time but she presses on with her busy work not knowing this complete stranger will forever change her world.
Duke suffers from PTSD, everyone and everything grates his nerves, and he likes to live inside hius mind. After his car breaks down not far from Cammie's home, he is confronted by an officer that gives him a hard time, but ultimately let's him go with a warning: get his car off the road in 24 hours. Unfortunately, the only car shop closed earlier that day. Cammie returns to her home later that day and sees the quiet, brooding man still with his car and offers help and shelter. Duke realizes that Cammie is a lost and broken soul like him and these two perfect strangers embark on an emotional journey on a road to healing one another.
Max Henry writes beautifully with such dark, raw emotion that it was hard not to feel for Cammie and Duke.

ECHOES IN THE STORM is a contemporary, slow burn, insta-love romance (Insta-love because it only takes them a week to fall for each other, slow burning because it takes more than half the book for them to become physical...make sense?!?!?). This is my first read from Max Henry and a standalone that also deals with some pretty tough issues. First, let me say that it took me a bit to acclimate to the European language style! There's absolutely nothing wrong with it and in fact, I've read several books from European authors that I loved but let's face it y'all...I'm a Texas gal! I had to stop several times to translate phrases like "Kindergarten has their disco" and "completely lost the plot". But once I got my groove on, I found that the story flowed really well, it was fast paced and it held my attention throughout. Both Cammie and Duke were dealing with some awful, horrible pasts but it only takes a week for them to realize that what they feel for each other could be the salve for their heartache. Even though their pasts were ugly, their romance was beautiful, emotional, awe inspiring. I loved to watch Duke and Cammie blossom as they chipped away at the walls that held them prisoner. Plus, both Cammie and Duke showed so much STRENGTH and WORTHINESS! Overall, this was a delightful and compelling story about the healing powers of love and I look forward to reading more from Max Henry! Told from dual POVs with a few chapters from random characters thrown in. I received, read and voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

Beautiful Storm.
I seriously love books where you have to keep reading to figure out what's going on. This book pulls you in with the unknown. There is so much that you just don't know, but it's all done in such a good way. Definitely one of those reads that you don't want to put down you just want to keep reading to find out exactly what's going on.
Cammie you can tell she is punishing herself in some way. Duke is a mystery of all sorts, you get built up to him being in the military.
This story has so much tragedy coming from both sides of it all. I mean you think you get it all then there is another twist or turn in it all and more sadness to add to it all.
Cam and Duke are way cute for one another, and just the way they have been brought to each other, broken and trying to figure out where to go next.
I love how they slowly show eachother there dark pasts and they exept them and try to help eachother cope and work through them. They don't jude one another or make them feel like they are less then....
The slow burn, and the build up you feel coming between them is so amazing and just HOLY SMOKES! These two have so much going on between them. Then when you realise, Duke is still leaving when the car is fixed it is honestly crushing. Especially from Cams side like she is not good enough.
Though when you actually read and see the why and realise the bigger picture of it all you see just how much they needed this.
The ending of this is just beautiful!

Alert and a warning! If you are interested in a quick and fluffy romance read with some sex, this is not the book for you. However, if you want a well written, poignant story about two people and how their relationship progresses then you have picked the right book. You will still have a romance and the sex scenes are well written but you will get so much more than from a typical contemporary romance story. Your journey begins with a front row seat to the experiences Duke and Cam bring to the storm that has become their sad and separate lives. Whether one or both of them are able to come through happy and whole is where this author shins the brightest. I was hooked from the start and kept on the edge of my seat wondering whether these two lost soles could find their HEA and you are forced to wait until the very end to get that answer. This was my first time to read anything by Max Henry and I will be searching for more of her books to read and enjoy in the future. I must also point out that she is from New Zealand so for those of us who live and read most of our books by American authors, there are some terms and spelling of words that are a bit different to get used to. However, I quickly fell into a comfortable flow where I was able to easily understand the meaning and intent of the story. Do not pass up the opportunity to read this book as you will not be disappointed.

Echoes in the Storm was an amazingly written, emotional journey that two broken people took me on as they discovered that sometimes the help of the right person can heal your heart, and restore your soul.
Cam lives her life day by day trying to stay as busy as possible, trying to fill the holes in her life, suffering with self blame and guilt over things she couldn't have controlled. In a small town, it's almost worse because everyone knows her story - everyone knows her pain and they all have their own opinions of it.
Duke should know better than to do his brother a favor, especially one that involves money but he just can't say no. So when he finds himself broke down in a pile-of-junk car on teh side of the rode in a small town, he's not sure what to do. When a stranger offers him help - he's leery of her end game, but finds himself taking her up on the offer anyways.
Cam and Duke were both suffering from ghosts of their pasts and lingering guilt. Together they started on the path to healing, but there were still obstacles in the way.
Echoes in the Storm was a raw, emotional read that left me with all the feels. From hurting for both of these characters and all they'd lost and suffered, to wanting to scream at them to not let things get in the way and between them, to wanting to hurt those who've hurt them.
