Z is not like other men. Since he was just a boy, he could see ghosts. Though the gift frightened him in the beginning, he soon learned to live with it, and more, started his own business as a ghost hunter, ridding haunted houses of their restless spirits. Fleeing a haunted past in the States, Z crossed the pond to London, his silver loaded revolvers on his hips and Stetson hat on his head, determined to earn a living hunting and fighting the supernatural. When Scotland Yard Inspector Charles Grant approaches Z with a special mission, the case pits the ghost hunter against an ancient evil. Asmodeus is coming and he brings an army of demons with him. Now, Grant must find the murderer who spilled human blood to summon the King of Demons, while Z races to find the one object that can drive the evil back to Hell. But will Z's past catch up to him first?

I give this book 5 out of 5 Crazy Stars! When I started reading this book a week ago, I was thrown for a complete whirlwind and ended up having nightmares! This book was filled with all the killings and gore one could need if you are wanting a good thrill.
This book was like horror meets steampunk and the Ghostbusters! At first, I was like “what did I get myself into deciding to read this book?” Then I found myself compulsively turning pages through the night.
This book had a Victorian England setting that I just fell in love with!
I also really enjoyed the fun characters in this book. The craziness and gore just had me at the edge of my seat, leaving me with a definite five star rating! If you are looking for horror and gore a plenty, I highly recommend Ghost Hunter Z!
D.A. Schneider has tapped into a new vein of the supernatural in this opening story of a trilogy. In this tale, as Z hunts ghosts, he also takes on demons, dragons, and nasty creatures from the underworld. He also meets fairies and angels and pursues lost love. There is a plethora of supernatural beings--kind and malevolent--within this story. Anyone who loves a mixture of sci-fi and supernatural elements will surely have a good time with anything that Schneider writes; I always do. His worlds are vast, creative, always original, and imaginative. They are worlds I would love to visit and characters I would love to meet.
No spoilers here if I tell you that Z is an American in 19th Century England, a man with a past that is slowly revealed through dreams of his lost love. He’s also a man on a mission, armed with his trusty ecto-extractor, Z goes head-to-head with a Jiang Shi, a Chinese spirit who has taken residence in a rural cottage. Now there’s a new force in town; a gigantic winged beast who is terrifying Londoners, and there’s only one man who can take it on. Schneider has written some great characters into his story: a troubled police inspector, a wise old judge, and an academic psychic who reveals the source of the evil incarnate. The relationship between Z and his sidekick puts one in mind of Holmes and Watson, albeit Reg hails from more lowly stock. This is a fun read, a pacey, well-crafted story, with liberal sprinkling of tongue-in-cheek humour.
This book was an awesome adventure, quite creepy at times with just the right amount of love interest running to keep the balance right. It reminded me of why I love Buffy the Vampire Slayer as a tv show. I thoroughly enjoyed DAs steampunk world and the characters he's crafted. I'm off to start book two!!
I was swept up into this world, set in Victorian England from the first page. Fast paced and wildly descriptive, I felt as though I was living it. Thrilling and scary and enthralling. Great work!
