Edward Wilder’s life sucks. At 18, the fox shifter is homeless, trying to care for his baby sister, and since a group of hunter’s maimed him, he can’t even get a normal job. Things can’t get worse—until he witnesses a murder. Now the cops and criminals are on his ass, and he has nowhere to turn. Until Maxwell Strider shows up. Problem is, Max is a hunter, and Edward hates hunters.
Max wouldn’t take in a couple of foxes under normal circumstances. He may only hunt truly dangerous shadow folk, but that doesn’t mean he wants to open his home to a potential enemy. But he owes an old friend a favor, and Edward and the baby, Daisy, need his help.
Protecting Edward should be easy, but the fox wakes a desire Max never knew he possessed. A lust Edward seems to share—if only at night. But can he mend the hurt Edward faced in the past and earn the one thing he’s denied himself—a chance at a family—before it’s too late?
Contains an enemies to lovers romance with fated mates between a sexy hunter and a broken fox shifter, graphic gay sex and a HEA ending.
Zoe Perdita writes (mostly) gay shifter romance because the only thing better than one hot shifter dude is two hot shifter dudes making out. She lives in the Pacific Northwest with a fluffy orange cat and a lively roommate. When she's not writing, Zoe likes to travel, read and play video games.
Zoe loves to hear from her fans so please send her an email: zoeperdita@gmail.com
Fox Hunt by Zoe Perdita is the tenth book in the Haven City series. I haven't read the other books in the series but after reading this book I can't wait to go back and read the other nine books. This book was excellent. I loved Max, Edward, and Daisy. The book was well developed and the characters had depth to them. I liked watching Edward and Max's relationship evolve from Max protecting Edward to them being mates. I can't wait to read the rest of the series. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
What happens when you put a young fox shifter in the same house as a shifter hunter? That’s a story. But Zoe also adds that Edward the fox is 18, homeless, and looking after his little sister. Now the story just got doubled in interest. But just to add to the mix, Poor Edward survived an attack by a shifter hunter that not only killed his father but also cost Edward the ability to speak due to having silver in his throat. Which means he speaks via sign language and via his mobile phone. Max Hunts shifters that have killed humans, he does not have any issues with shifters that abide the law. But he is in a minority of hunters. Max life is his hunting, he has no time for anything else. Until Edward is caught up in the hunt for a fox assassin. Having come face to face with the assassin, Max via his friends in the local police force persuade Edward to stay under Max’s protection with his sister. Both must adapt to each other and learn to trust the other. Whilst hunting the assassin who is a sly fox. I adore Edward, his fearless attitude and determination to protect his sister at all costs. He doesn’t complain about his lot in the world. He just adapts and moves forward. Zoe has done a wonderful job with both characters and the plot certainly had me on the edge of my seat a few times. In fact I am having trouble writing this review as I do not want to give too much away.
I really enjoyed this book, so much so that I went and bought the rest of the series.
What can I say about this book? Everything! I absolutely love, love, love this series. I was sad to know this was the last book. I'm hoping there will be more to come and I'm quite certain there will be.
This installment had all former characters coming together to help save Edward Wilder’s and his baby sister's life. What a world wind story! Great, lovable and so many
Feeling somewhat blue, and knowing “Fox Hunt” was about to come out, I binge-read all ten novels in Zoe Perdita's Haven series. “Fox Hunt,” is one of her best. Beyond Perdita’s trademark rollicking-good plot line, she subtly raises issues germane to our times.
This installment focuses on Edward, a young fox shifter with an infant, who readers encountered in “Alpha's Cage.” Edward’s dad had been killed in the same human hunter attack that cost Edward his ability to speak. After the horrific attack, his step-mother absconded, leaving Edward to raise his half-sister. Now homeless with his infant sister, Edward witnesses a fellow fox shifter murder a human.
In order to protect his witness, Max, a human hunter tracking the murderer, houses Edward and his sister. Edward, who is unaccustomed to kindness from shifters, much less humans, and certainly not from hunters, is slow to develop trust.
In the first five interwoven Haven novels, readers were eager to learn if Haven’s gang war would be won by those who valued justice. Since the city has relative peace, Perdita is free to explore the nature of morality. Who should decide whether vigilante assassinations are “fair” when the law doesn’t protect innocent lives?
Are species and familial loyalty more powerful than tenuous love and trust? Perdita offers a reader a strong case for basing bonds on people's behaviors, over sticking to old identity affiliations. mindlessly
Perdita writes can't-put-them-down plots. Though sweeter than other Haven novels, with the addition of a baby, “Fox Hunt” is no less compelling. In fact, the baby’s guilelessness highlights the choices our heroes must make, and risks they must take.
The cross-species couple also has a large age difference. It’s not just others’ prejudices they must contend with, but their own.
Perdita’s characters are beautifully drawn. Rapidly moving events realistically contrast with hard-earned respect, and readers identify with the pain of accepting sub-optimal circumstances. Max and Edward learn that love, though risky and difficult to merit, is the best antidote to life’s unfairness.
For deliciously written escapism, “Fox Hunt” is never-the-less more profound than Perdita’s other Haven novels. I hope you’ll find it as delightful as I did!”
***I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Readers Copy of this book***
I really loved this book! It was a simple, quick, and easy book to read. This was the first book I've read from Ms. Perdita and it won't be my last. My TBR listing is going to grow substantially when I start adding all her other works. I will especially be on the lookout for further stories from this series. This is a story about opposites, unlikely bed fellows, shifters, humans, and hunters alike. It's also about family, duty, bigotry, cultural differences, age, and most of all the love between two would be lovers.
Edward is an 18 yr old omega fox shifter living on the streets with his 5 mo old baby sister. He does what it takes to keep her feed and clothed. He is a desperate and angry young man struggling to live and protect the only family he has left and deal with having been maimed buy human hunters. They damaged Edwards throat and he lost the ability to talk and communicate with individuals. His father was murdered in the same attack as Edward. In an alley running from hunters Edward bumps into an assassin running around Haven City committing violent and bloody murders. Edward can identify the assassin by his scent and the assassin knows it. With Edward in possibly danger the leader of a human hunter team Max volunteers his home and protection to Edward and his baby sister. Unexpected feelings surprise the two men as they grow closer despite the 20 yr difference in their ages.
Will Edward be able to get past his feelings about human and hunters in particular for his love Max? The two men will have to work through their hard held beliefs about each other. They each will have to address their worries about what the age difference between them means. They will also have to decide if they are strong and brave enough to face the possible societal prejudices against their age difference and their intercultural differences.
Why do I love this book? Let me count the ways: hot, older man and tough-as-nail young hero; diversity and representation of disabled characters, guys that love babies; sexy action; sweet falling in love story; supernatural beings; and the list goes on. I was given an advanced review copy and this is my first Haven City book, so I wasn't sure what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised. I really loved the characters: Edward is a fox shifter, mute after a horrible attack by human hunters, orphaned and abandoned by his stepmother, caring for his baby sister by prostituting himself, like so many homeless LGBT+ kids with no one to care for them. He tries his best, but can't find a job that can keep him and Daisy safe and well provided, so he resorts to finding gross jerks on craigslist for money, and that's how he stumbles upon another fox shifter, an assassin who is being chased by human hunters for murder. Edward and Daisy's lives are now in danger, since Edward can recognize the assassin, so he's taken in by Max, a human in charge of the hunter team in Haven city. Edward is understandably terrified of Max and his team, but can't find any other way but to move in with Max until the assassin is found. Max is, well... dreamy. He is gorgeous, strong, with a unbreakable sense of justice, gentle and generous, and can't help but want to help the terrified fox shifter siblings. It is through his gentleness that he breaks down Ed's barriers and Ed breaks through Max's barriers through his bravery and determination. The sexy scenes are sexy, the love story is sweet and believable, and the happy ending is oh so sweet! I happily recommend it for a fun read, and will be checking out the series from the beginning, since there were a few couples from the other books showing up and it would be nice to get to know them as well.
This is book ten in the series, and I haven’t read the others. I will be going back to read them all. That is how much I enjoyed this story. And it does stand-alone, but I’m sure that I missed some things by not having read the others. Although the characters that had previous books show up here, it is easy to understand how their stories probably went and why they are a part of this story.
Loved Edward. A fox shifter, he is homeless and has the care of his baby sister. He is at times fierce, like his protection of his baby sister Daisy. And at other times, very much the eighteen-year-old that he is. Unsure and fearful at times, confident at others. Left mute by silver in his throat by hunters who killed his dad, he has no reasons to trust hunters. But being in the wrong place at the wrong time leads to his being taken into custody. And to keep Daisy safe, he’ll do just about anything. Including moving in with an older hunter, Max. Max is sometimes torn between his duty, the things he’s done and the justice that some of his hunts deserve. He’s longed for a family of his own, can he get it with Edward and his baby sister. I love the ease in which this group turned into a family unit.
This was the only part I wasn’t comfortable with, the age difference between Max and Edward. Otherwise, the relationship that develops between them is a lovely thing to watch. This story is well written. It keeps you engaged with the characters and the storyline.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I remember when I discovered Zoe Perdita all those years ago. It was during my obsessive paranormal phase and at a time I was just opening up to the MM world. Boy, I did not know that years later this same author would be giving me a taste of what I was missing by not finishing the Haven City series. I have now made a vow to catch up and that's a promise.
"Mate. How the hell could a human be his mate?"
Max and Edward met on unfortunate terms, but that only heightened the chemistry flowing before them. Ed had lost it all. His family, his home, his voice. What he had left was his baby sister whom he was determined not to lose. Unfortunately, one mistake lead to just that. With no voice to explain himself, he was in a conundrum. That is, until his ability as a shifter led him to a hunter he was attracted to.
Now Ed and Max were living together under the guise of lovers. Max was Ed's protection until the assassin who was targeting others could be found. With time, both Max and Ed realised each was not what the other had thought and Max was finding himself just a little too interested in something he had long given up on.
How was a hunter and a wolf going to make it work when neither trusted the other? Read Fox Hunt and find out how.
I voluntarily and honestly reviewed this book without bias or persuasion from the author.
This book is book 10 of a series, and although I haven't read any of the others you really don't need to, it has a flow that isn't interrupted because you haven't read them. You do get previous characters that have featured in their own story, in this respect you obviously understand where their own story went, but I will venture back and read the others. As I previously said, this story had good flow, intriguing characters, a little angst, misunderstandings, and some really hot sex. Daisy is a cute distraction, but maybe a little too much focus on her, and not enough of getting the bad guy and what it means to be a 'Hunter'. There was one question not really answered for me also, it hinted at a reason, but wasn't confirmed. 'what was the link? I enjoyed this book quite a lot and read it in one sitting, it is a shifter book, but it is really only touched upon in one particular scene, it's not the focus, the focus is the developing relationship between Max and Ed, and how two people can go from hate to love in the right circumstances. I like this authors writing, and I recommend it for a good paranormal m/m series. **ARC provided by author for an honest review.**
Fox Hunt is the tenth book in the Haven City series by author Zoe Perdita. I would read this series in order it is really more enjoyable that way. You get a better idea of the politics and how this world works that way. Edward: has to get food for his baby sister. He needs money. He is a fox shifter. He gets caught by people who think he is an assassin and he gets arrested. He cannot talk so he cannot explain himself either. Maxwell: he is a hunter. Wanted to know the police had gotten involved in his hunt. It is his job to keep humans safe from dangerous shadow folk. When Maxwell gets the job to protect Edward and his baby sister Daisy he finds himself in the position he never thought he would be in, falling for a shifter. Wanting a family with one. But can and hunter and the hunted find love? I loved the ending to this one. I love also how the characters come full circle and learn to be better people by the end of the book. I want more from this series, I cannot get enough of the shifters, the hunters and those they love.
I read the first installment of the series, Shadow Scars, few years ago and it was centered around detectives Seth and Connor, who were part of this book too. I never continued with the series until now, even though I quite liked the first book. The books in the series can be read as a standalone, so jumping from the first to last was not problematic at all.
Fox Hunt was an enjoyable story about homeless fox shifter Edward, who was all alone and taking care of his baby sister Daisy. He witnesses an assassination and get a glimpse of the assassin, and because of that he and his sister end up under the protection of an older hunter, Max. Basically, the story is about what happens when the opposites are thrown under the same room and if they can get over their distrust of each other - Edward has been tortured and mutilated by hunters before, and he hates hunters for it.
There's plenty of action and exciting moments when the assassin starts to close in and Max vows to protect Edward and Daisy from all kinds of danger. And of course, the slowly building trust and chemistry makes everything even more complicated. Daisy's absolutely adorable baby, who was hard not to love, and Edward just deserves all the happiness in the world after all the stuff he's been gone through. Max is the protective type who's all for justice and not just hunting down shifters - only those who have gone over the edge and started killing humans. There were plenty of interesting side characters, especially Sylvia from Max's hunter team, and Ari, Seth and Connor.
However, there was one problem with the story; it was way too short. I felt that there wasn't enough pages to cover the story and develop the characters and their relationships. It was a good story, but the ending was rushed: a long build up throughout the story but only one short chapter to wrap it up. Overall the story was a bit too fast paced to deepen and develop properly Edward and Max's budding relationship. The story would have been really good if it had been longer and thus reserved more space for character and relationship development, and yeah, it would have been nice to read more about Edward and Max.
So, if you're yearning for quick paranormal romance with likable characters, I'd recommend Fox Hunt for you.
(A copy of this ebook was provided in return for an honest review.)
*I received a copy for review* This is a solid 5 people! The characters are interesting, the dialogue was/is crisp and snappy with an extra side of snarky. Edward was just angsty enough to not be sickening, and Max was just soft enough to not be a total asshole! This book was the perfect mix of heat and plot to keep it all moving forward, and even though it all takes place over the course of a couple of months. I actually read this first book in this 10 book series, and honestly? I wasn't too thrilled! I actually had to go back, and double check, because I thought the authors name seemed familiar to me. Now, I have to eat crow, and go back and purchase the 2nd, through 10th book because I can see where this story was the continuation of a very beautiful thing... But, hey don't just take my word for it, it this book, and I promise, you will not be sorry. Happy reading!
I received an arc of this book from the author, my review is voluntary.
Zoe Perdita is, in my opinion, a vastly underrated author. I've read a lot of her books and this series is one of my favourites. Book 10, I think is the best instalment so far. I recommend these books to anyone who likes a well written story and well developed characters. Max and Edward are such a great match. Edward was understandably cagey at the beginning, but together the couple are explosive. At first I had qualms regarding Edward's age, he's only 18, but due to past experiences he presented as much older than his years. The book moved the story on nicely and I enjoyed reading about couples from previous books. Daisy was a delight, and I loved how Max interacted with her. Recommended.
I was given an ARC in return for an honest review.
"Fox Hunt" is a pleasure. It's the tenth book in Zoe Perdita's Haven series, and the setting is rich and detailed without going overboard with description. Although this book is well down the line in the series, you don't have to read the others to understand what's happening - it gives enough explanation to get the reader up to speed without ever belaboring the retelling.
The love story is sweet and honest, unfolding in a realistic way. The fox shifter assassin story line is engaging, and the suspense well done. The characters are fully developed and even the secondary characters are fleshed out and real. I enjoyed this book capitally and read it all in one sitting.
LOVED this book! I really really enjoyed the beginning, I havent read the other books in this series, but I really liked how Max and Edward met. At first it is just so awkward between them and in a way, it is adorable. Also I enjoyed the Fantasy elements very much, I liked the whole world building. Both characters are very strong and the relationship dynamic between them is great. I think my only complain is the Resolution, I was a Little disappointed there. SPOILER: I somehow expected some Kind of Showdown, but it was just like "do your Job and leave the City" "ok" "bye" and that was it. But altogether this is a gread read, especially as I felt a Little down and just wanted a novel to escape, this is the perfect book for that! Will definetely read more books from this author!
I've been trying to come up with the best way to describe how much I loved this and why. But first I had to get all the wows omgs holy you knows and darn it's dones out. I love shifter books and good detective stories. This is both with Max, Edward, and Daisy being the focal point. Plus you got Max's team and some familiar guys thrown in. Every step of this book was a surprise. The ending most of all. I can't wait for what's next and at the same time I want to go back and start at book 1. Zoe Perdita never fails to deliver a great read. I was given the privilege and opportunity to receive an advanced reader copy and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
*I voluntarily reviewed a copy* Final book in the series, but the main plot is separate from the main series. The book can be read as a stand alone but I highly encourage reading the entire series. This book is about a fox and a hunter :). One is young and having difficulty of life taking care of another being. The other is alone and working but not really living. When a dangerous situation brings them together it will take time for the chemistry between them to build so intense where neither can ignore anymore. Edward and Maxwell were a perfect couple and even the villain that they worked together against was unique from the others in the past. *I voluntarily reviewed a copy*
Max and Edward are beautiful together! Two men who should never connect, a hunter and a fox.. yet they are the missing pieces of each other. Max who has done so many things that have stained his soul and Edward who has experienced so much violence against him and his family. Trust does not come easy, but you feel the connection build and you cheer as they become a family built on love.
Fox Hunt, Haven City is the 10th book in the series, and i would say that it can be read as a stand alone book However, it was so good that i went and purchased the first 9 books so that i could read them all!
I voluntarily reviewed a Advanced Readers Copy of this book
I was given an ARC in return for an honest review. This is a love story with sweet characters. Max and Edward make a wonderful couple and this is a nice read if you want an alpha who is totally adorable with a little baby. Ed is a fighter and cares deeply for his baby sister Daisy. There is a bit of an age difference but I think it works because Ed has been through so much that I wouldn't consider him 18. His life experiences alone have forced maturity on him. For me, it was an enjoyable read.
This is the first book of Zoe Perdita's that I have read and I loved it! This story is beautifully written, fast paced, hot and sexy. The relationship that develops between Edward and Max is amazing. Edward has to get past his hatred of Hunters and learns over time that Max is trustworthy. Max also falls for Edward's baby sister Daisy and the big bad hunter loves to buy toys for her. The secondary characters add a lot to this story as well. I can't wait to read the first 9 books in this series now.
Zoe Perdita have done it again with this series. I have read all ten books. I read it in one sitting and I couldn’t put it down. I was surprised that she paired a shifter with a hunter but it stop the love and interaction between Edward and Max. Edward was very protective of his sister and I’m glad he put his trust in Max. It was sweet and heartwarming. I hope this is not the end of this series and if it is I am looking forward to any of Zoe’s new series.
I enjoyed reading Max and Edward’s story. This is the first book of the series I have read and I didn’t know it was the last until I finished. I am really curious to read this series from the beginning. The reason this didn’t get 5 stars is because the ending wasn’t the ending of a final book, to me it left room for more. I hope that it is not the last and I got my info mixed up, because even though I just found this series I think it will quickly become a favorite.
There is just that something that makes Max perfect and endearing. He opens his home to Edward and Daisy and pretty much fell in love with both of them almost immediately. Edward is far beyond his 18 years and has done his very best for his baby sister...life couldn't break him...when Max falls to his knees before Edward with total love and adoration was the best moment. The part of the book that made it the best.
I voluntarily read this advanced readers copy of this book. Strong characters and great story line. You will love reading about Max and Edward. Max a Hunter and Edward a fox shifter. Edward and his little sister need help and somewhere to stay. Max has sudden desires that he never experienced that are awaken when Edward arrives in his life.
A return to the much loved world of the Haven City series. Edward is trying to take care of Daisy, his baby sister, when he ends up on the run from murderers and cops. The last thing he needs is to run into Max, a hunter and everything he hates, but you know what they say 'there's a thin line between love and hate'.
Well-written, good character depth, with suspense over an assassin on a killing streak, budding m/m romance between a fox shifter and his human protector, heat, and, last but not least, an adorable baby fox shifter named Daisy! A very good read.
I received a complimentary advance copy of this book from u on the author. This is my voluntary and honest review.
Very good book. Well written with good character development. I haven't read the other books in this series and didn't have a problem reading this one because of that either. Although I will be going back and reading the others now that I have met some of the characters and been introduced to the setting.
Edward and max were awesome together great connection. I really enjoyed the chemistry between each character and the story plot was mapped out perfectly. Great start for book 1 no spoilers here. I voluntarily review this advanced reader copy for my honest opinion
Zoe Perdita is one of my favorite authors!! Her books are absolutely captivating!! This is book ten in the series but can be read as a stand-alone. I highly recommend this entire series!! Auto One click for sure!!
Wonderful series...this one most touching. Beautiful..so much love and growing together. Except to shed tears if you know the personal feelings of tragedy. I only know them to well.
