This anthology is all about the zombies! Love ‘em or hate ‘em, this book is the one to read. With over twenty-two stories by authors like: R.L. Blalock, Sylvester Barzey, Christopher Arminian, Adrienne Lector, Jessica Gomez and Valerie Lioudis.
The stories concern all stages of the zombie apocalypse. Before the zombies, during the zombies, after the zombies all the zombie things you love.
1. Alone Together by David Simpson - 2 stars This just wasn't my type of story, I like something with a little more hope
2. Gone Fishin' by Justin Robinson - 5 Stars I just really enjoyed everything about this story, so much in fact that I immediately checked out the series it came from and thoroughly enjoyed it as well. I really hope the author decides to continue writing in this world
3. The Festival by Christopher Mahood - didn't finish Really didn't like this one, the narrator's voice felt very juvenile and I didn't get anywhere near finishing it.
4. JIMMY by Arthur Mongelli - 3 Stars I wasn't quite as blown away with this story, but it was well written enough to get me to at least check out the series it came from and I did enjoy the two books that have been written in it more than the short story, so definitely check it out - looking forward to the next in the series as well.
5. The Fort by Michael Whitehead - 4 Stars I liked the idea of this story a lot - it was a nice difference from modern day zombies, so I checked out this series as well. But the 2nd book just didn't leave me craving more... others might not have that problem though
6. Adam by Sylvester Barzey - 1 Star I absolutely hated this story, I finished it hoping for something good to come about and was sickened by the ending.
7. A Peaceful Town by Jeremy Dyson - 3 Stars I liked this story well enough, but just wasn't super excited about seeing what the series was like
8. The Undead Pool: The Zombie Night by Derek Ailes - didn't finish Just could not get into this story at all, quit after 2 pages
9. Zombie Exterminators by Grvante - 2 Stars I found the narrative voice a little annoying (kinda childish even) but still went ahead and finished. Definitely wasn't interested in checking out the series
10. The Horror at Roswell Mills by Michael Peirce - didn't finish The first couple of pages were just full of too many people, places and jargon
11. Before Safe Haven: Losing the Battle by Christopher Artinian - 5 Stars This was just gripping. A great story with a lot that pointed to even more interesting things to learn about in the series, so I jumped right into it and enjoyed it just as much.
12. On the Rocks by E. E. Isherwood - 2 Stars This was okay, but the defeatist attitude just isn't something I like in a story
13. Morning of the Living Dead by Mark Cusco Ailes - didn't finish Nope, this just seemed stupid from the get-go
14. Defenseless: A Story of Death & Decay by R. L. Blalock - 1 Star I seriously wish I had stopped reading this story, that's how yucky I felt when I finished it
15. To the Hills by T. D. Ricketts - 1 Star While I didn't hate this story as much as the previous one (I didn't feel like I needed a bath after finishing it) it still had a narrator I didn't like at all
16. When I Grow Up, I Won't Be by Brea Behn - 1 Star Another hopeless story...
17. Fallen: A Flash Prequel by Jessica Gomez - 1 Star Another hopeless story I wish I hadn't read
18. Brain Waves by Julien Saindon - 2 Stars This was okay enough, but just not that interesting to me
19. Damaged Goods: An AM13 Outbreak Short Story by Samie Sands - didn't finish Another one where the narrator is another annoying juvenile (though this one was at least supposed to be a self-absorbed teenager)
20. Avery by Valerie Lioudis - 5 Stars I really, really liked the complexity of the main character and immediately checked out the author's other works - you should too!
21. In the Beginning, God by Charles Ingersoll - 2 Stars Just didn't capture my attention
22. Evacuation by Adrienne Lecter - 1 Star There just seemed to be way too much interpersonal stuff that was supposed to temp you into reading the rest of the series and it all grated on my nerves
Undead World is an anthology of 22 "creepy" authors and their tales about the undead! Tales of a world so wry different from ours...or is it?! A quick read full of chills, thrills, guts and gore.
Defenseless: A story of Death & Decay is a gripping short story from the Death & Decay series by R.L. Blalock. ...A moment in time of a boy, Dylan, as he tries to understand as his world is turned upside down. I've read and loved her other books in the series, Devour and Divided. If you get the chance you should read them.
Morning of the Living Dead by Mark Cisco Ailes ...I enjoyed this Zombie Park short story. I've had Zombie Park on my tbr list for awhile now. After reading this short, I definitely need to bump it up the list!
Gone Fishin' by Justin Robinson ...Dave Pulaski likes to look as pretty as he feels! He goes out to find communities to trade with the Pacifica. The people he encounters is not always friendly but he has a way of weeding them out!
The Festival by Christopher LaHood ...I loved this concept. I also love Halloween and what better day to hold a festival to kill the undead and maybe a few who aren't (winks)
The Horror of Roswell Mills by Michael Peirce ...A great short story with a lot of fighting, action and a little suspense.
To the Hills by T.D. Tickets ...brings a little humor to the zombie apocalypse! I love his writing style and am going to have to check out his other works.
Damaged Goods by Samoa Sands ...the self-reflection of a teenage girl as she turns into a zombie. I loved the introspection. Her awareness. One mistake can change your world!
I received arc from the lovely R. L. Blalock big fan of hers! Defenseless: A Story of Death & Decay. From a 6 yr old point of view during zombie outbreak just heartbreaking and leaves you with goosebumps!
It's little hard to write review for Anthology and with 22 Author's!!! So with that going to say they all did amazing! Yes was there errors or mishaps in some of course but I don't really care with it being anthology I over look that because 1. Mostly all story's are new and have to be done lot faster then normal. So I'm viewing this for creativity and the writing style from each Author. Out of 22 Author's I only 3 I've read before. So I found new author's to follow!!!
I was gifted a copy of this book while waiting for my pre-oredered e-book to arrive. There is something for everyone in this collections, from zombie clowns to a bazaar festival.A few of my favorite short stories were, 1) By David Simpson, Alone together. Even a lone NG can lose youself a in the music... if you are lucky you may just find a way out.2.) By Christopher Mahood, The Festival, a unique twisted practice. Last but not least 3.) By Grivante Zombie Exterminators, I lab rats.Who doesn't like a mad scientist in a black ops lab? There are 22 Short stories in the book. Pick up your copy and find your next new to you fave Author. The stories were all well written and entertaining.
I'm a bit tired of all those zombie related stories, but I got to say for the hardcore fans who can't get enough of it. This anthology is a good one, nothing really great or special about it, but casual zombies stories that works well. Like all anthology some are betters then others, but a good overall and various style of zombies stories has well. Better then expected!
Undead Worlds does a spectacular job of highlighting a wide variety of zombie fiction ranging from the bleak despair of 'Alone Together' to the romantically sweet 'Fallen'. Many of the short stories feel like prequels but they stand alone, not requiring the reader to know the author's wider world. The truly good stories of the anthology do make you want to read more of that world.
Highlights of Undead World were:
Gone Fishin' by Justin Robinson - One of the few stories that was set in the post aspect of the zombie apocalypse, you get to see the start of a hopefully better world despite the vicious ashes caused by the end of the world. It also deserves a call out for being unapologetically violent but avoiding the easy exploitation, instead giving a needed catharsis. Also a call out for everyone who believes in dressing to look good - even when the world has gone on.
The Fort by Michael Whitehead - A truly historic zombie story set during the Roman rule of Gaul. One of the shorter stories, Whitehead gets you invested in his small band of returning Romans. They find themselves changed from overlords to outnumbered survivors in a matter of a single patrol, and you will want to see if they survive.
Defenseless by R. L. Blalock - One of the most perfectly paced short stories I've ever read. The story's protagonist and storyteller is six-year-old Dylan at the very start of the zombie apocalypse and Blalock manages to layer the horror to where you can not put the story down until you find out his fate.
When I Grow Up, I Won't Be by Brea Behn - Take a smart and scrappy heroine that has already managed to survive in a world overtaken by zombie despite proven weakness and you find yourself rooting for her in the first few pages. Then she gets blindsided by hope, but you still want to find out where she ends up.
Ugh ... I think I'm really zombied-out now. These storie could easily have been different chapters in the same book. Very similar and I really didn't develop any sympathy for any of the characters. I am now going to search for horror minus zombies.
Anthologies are always a roll of the dice. None are all great, few are all bad. The stories here are exactly like that. Some, the stand alone ones are the best, others that are segments from novels or series, are a bit disappointing since they ended erratically. I'll leave it to the individual to decide which were which.
Some very good ones with an interesting take on the Zedds. Others are just bad. Deadpool was an odd one. It was a tease because most of the decent authors were only available on unlimited
Welcome to the Undead Worlds featuring zombies and their world. This time around I am giving a great big shout out to eight of the authors from the Undead Worlds.
This has been one amazing journey with all these zombies. I love me some zombies. I really liked reading all the stories rooting for all the people and following along with them on their journey through the undead worlds. If you love zombies then give this one a try you won’t regret it!
Defenseless: A Story of Death & Decay by R. L. Blalock
A six year old little boy, Dylan is left to face zombies all alone with the help of his best friend. Dylan is a very courageous little boy. I loved his story as well as all the stories in the Dead & Decay world.
Damaged Goods by Samie Sands
The life of a teenage girl as she is slowly turning into a zombie from the moment she is bit until the end. I loved the concept of this story you know getting the events as they occur from a real life “zombie”.
The Horror at Roswell Mills by Michael Peirce
A story of a teenage girl “Captain Alice” who has built her army of teenagers to help fight the undead. Captain Alice is a very strong and smart girl for one so young. Come join Alice as she leads the living in a fight against the undead. A great little story.
Morning of The Living Dead by Mark Cusco Ailes
A story about a man trying to keep his family safe after the animals from the zombie park have escaped and are now attacking humans. When I saw this little story from Zombie Park I had to read it as I have wanted to read Zombie Park Trilogy for a while now. As I do love me some zombies I think I will probably have to up Zombie Park on my TBR list.
Zombie Exterminators by Grivante
Zombie Exterminators is about two brothers who fight zombies in a lab. I really enjoyed this little gem and can’t wait to read more about these two brothers and zombies.
The Fort by Michael Whitehead
A group of soldiers return from a mission to find their fort has been overrun with zombies and must find a way to kill them all. A great read. Zombies and more zombies…
Jimmy by Arthur Mongelli
A story about a mom and a dad who are worried about their teenage son, Jimmy who has locked himself in his room and won’t open the door and let them in. They are worried about Jimmy being in trouble in some way but once they finally gain entrance to Jimmy’s room they may find more than they were bargaining for. Jimmy is a very thoughtful and loving son who tried to save his parents from the zombies.
Alone Together by David Simpson
Two people who have been fighting zombies meet each other for the first time and spend time pondering their lives fighting zombies and how they ended up where they are now. What would you do if the end was here?
ZOMBIES HERE, ZOMBIES THERE, ZOMBIES EVERYWHERE THEY ARE.....
Hello, this is a fair account of the ZULU ALPHA from different authors perspectives. Some are real good, some are okay, some are kinda lame and some are just plain not good. Thanks.
This selection of short stories came as a shock in a good way. I didn't think 22 Authors could get together and write some really awesome zombie stories . Each one has its own characteristics, bringing new storylines to thier well loved books. As I read through the collection I thought this would scare the s*%\t out off some off my friends. So guess what they are getting for Halloween. But seriously this collection is a good introduction to the works of these Wonderful Authors.
Kindle Unlimited, various writers but actually noticed it because had stories by Zombie Exterminators by Grivante and On the Rocks by E.E. Isherwood. 22 stories all together so overall worth the read {means no didn't luv them all but for the most part good collection}.
Fantastic chomping good read. I've now got a good amount of books that I need to read. Fantastic authors, wonderful writing and I can't wait to read more. Highly recommended read!
This isn't a book of short stories, it's a teleporter that will take you to 22 different zombie apocalypses. Experience the universe of each author's book series without committing to a full-length novel. But be warned, you'll soon want to dive completely into their worlds!
There's a range of stories, from short to long, humorous to dark, triumphant to defeated. Not sure what zombie book you want to read next? Consider this your chance to drive before you buy. (I hope you chose to drive the tank, because you're going to need it with all these zombies running rampant!)
I love a good zombie story and there are 20 different tales about how it happened, as it's happening, one set in the future, and in the end how does humanity deal with it? I enjoyed my journey through these varied stories and there are two more anthologies to go. Plus, I found new authors that I may want to read more of. One of my favorite stories was Zombie Park where the animals are the ones infected and then they escape. Love that concept. The Festival is an interesting concept of the future as it seems humanity has an understanding of the apocalypse and it's inevitable that when we die we reanimate. Zombie Exterminators is just fun and is the prologue to the Zee Brothers series which will have me looking into that series.
The only reason this received a 4 stars from me was this could have used another round of editing. There were misspellings and grammatical errors such as the character meant to say he's, but instead the character said his. One story misspelled answer, spelling it answe. Normally, I don't have too much of a problem, but when it's almost every story or in one story it was at least two times then I have to wonder if it was rushed for publishing or the editor didn't look over it carefully. I hope the second anthology is free of this, but other than this it's enjoyable.
Content warning includes gore and mentions of rape.
This was a new one for me--an anthology without an editor. This led to a rather uneven collection, and a lot of errors I just don't expect to find in an anthology (because they normally have editors!). The third story, "The Festival", was so riddled with typos as to be pretty much unreadable. There was some fun stuff in here, too, particularly "Fallen" and "Avery".
Found this anthology to have been edited & curated well. Also liked having additional info regarding the writers and their contact info. I would recommend this to anyone who still enjoys the changes that the undead would wreak upon the day to day life.
For me, the difficulty with zombie stories is telling them in a fashion that doesn't make them feel repetitious, and Undead Worlds for the most part does that though it neglects zombies based on the supernatural–as opposed to science gone awry–with is a bit of a pity.
No matter what kind of zombies and zombie stories you like this book definitely has something for everyone. This is an amazing collection, anyone who enjoys a good ZPoc will find something interesting in this collection
Fun collection of stories!! Some I really enjoyed and took note of to read their other books and done I had to flip through quickly. One or two stories I had no idea what was happening!! 😬 This is a good way to read different stories!!
Great gathering of well written short stories. The first in the book gave me a gut shot that still lingers. Not sure I'll have a peaceful night's sleep.......
