Fueled by methamphetamines and deviant motives, nothing was off limits for James Daveggio and Michelle Michaud. Not even their own children. Living out of a specially rigged minivan (a mobile torture chamber that included ropes, hooks, curling irons, duct tape, etc), this cold-blooded murdering duo kidnapped, tortured, raped, and killed young girls from Reno, Nevada, to Sacramento, California.
While the local and state police departments, and even the FBI, vigorously searched for the couple, they freely hunted for prey and carried out their months-long spree of abduction and murder.

This is a very interesting and well written book about a couple who decided to kidnap, torture and rape young women before they let them go except for one that they murdered. This sick couple decided to go down this path after they patterned themselves after another couple who were famous for doing this same thing.
A terrible thing happened when James Daveggio met Michelle Michaud. They formed a deadly serial rape and murder team. Michaud's green minivan was converted into a mobile torture chamber. The back seats were removed and the rear compartment was fitted with ropes and hooks to restrain their rape-torture victims.
When the duo escalated to rape, torture and murder, the manhunt was already in pursuit. This deadly pair must be captured and prosecuted. While there are no graphic photos, the words provide sufficient detail to chill your heart.
I loved this true crime story. The horrendous things this couple did is terrifying. To know that such evil is living among us is scary. They even took advantage of their own children and their friends. All the lives that have been scarred. Great read!
Abduction: The Minivan Murders by R.J. Parker is the true story of James Daveggio and Michelle Michaud, a couple of meth-heads who kidnapped and sexually assaulted a number of young women from Sacramento, California to Reno, Nevada, even killing one and dumping her body.
A chilling story of serial rapists and murderers, the book fails, however, to live up to the hype or the cover. There is too much repetition, going over points repeatedly that could well be addressed once and done—and a lot of it is devoted to the killing spree of two other serial rapist-killers, who apparently were the motivation for Daveggio and Michaud.
An interesting book, that with less repetition, and without the hype—for example, the two were only convicted of one murder, and while they might, if not caught, have killed others, there is no evidence that they killed more than the one for whose death they were convicted.
I give this one three stars. Interesting subject, just not as well executed as I would expect from this author.
A lot of repetition of the same material in this one makes it not one of the best I've read from this author. Makes it feel I'm reading the same book over and over. Also, not very well organized. You read the outcome in the beginning, all of the murders aren't in order. Details of the murders are not included. Although they are gruesome, he could have included them as we are not novice reader and generally over 18. I just can't give this one a good review without him taking the time for a do-over. I expect more of Parker than this. It seems he didn't even read it over himself before he published it. I eek that, if he did, he would have fixed all of this.
I always love reading books from this author and I am always pleased. The only reason I gave this three stars instead of more is because for some reason this one to me didn't have as much details and so forth in it. While it did have a lot I have also come to expect so much from this author so maybe I am judging more then I should! So yea I def would recommend this to others to read! I felt like it had enough information and so forth. I just thought so much more could of and should of been put into this book itself!! But anyone who reads this will enjoy it I am sure! So please don't let my review scare you because that is not what I want to you! I just think the author could of done so much better!
Not His Best Work: A Somewhat Superficial Presentation
I gave book a 3 rating - though I could have just as easily, and accurately, given it a 2. Story was relayed in the "past tense", rather than unfolding as a series of events (in the typical manner of most crime stories). This, by itself, gave the story a distant feel. Added to that ( or rather, subtracting from it) was the fact that the author didn't really offer a lot of details about anything. Very mediocre.
Supposition & opinion. Unedited? Switches from past to present tense in same sentence numerous times. Repeats same information so it becomes tedious. Conclusion made at start of book. Scant details. Made up psychological evaluation s & ridiculous diagnosis based on authors thoughts
This was an interesting book. It was short, so not very detailed, but it is well researched. Since it is short, it combined a lot of what happened, but, it did tell the story well. For a quick read on these heinous crimes, that are hard to comprehend, this is a good book to read. It is hard to hear some details and know what happened, but it does not go deep into those details.
Same narrative used over and over. No continuity ,no Indication of how the police put the evidence together. It seems as if the author used newspaper cuttings as the same sentence's are repeatedly used.
The book was a good read, except for the constant repeat of the same facts about the psychotic couple. It's scary to know that there are crazy people like this or there in our world.
As always RJ Parker delivered a story with spine chilling details that kept me reading! Always well told, this book is definitely another I am pleased to add to my read again list.
This book takes the basic content of the crimes and repeats it over and over again. I found myself flipping pages hoping some new content would come up but in vain. You will find more information through google or YouTube. You may give this book a miss.
I would rate this book maybe 2.5 because there is way too much of the same statements restated throughout the book; the points have become redundant to the point of boredom.
This is the true crime story of a toxic couple who emulated California killers Gerald and Charlene Gallego who picked up young girls who were hitchhiking, etc. in northern California in the 1980s. This couple, Michelle Michaud and Jams Daveggio, were active in the late 80s and very early 90s. Honestly, I thought the Gallego couple were really soulless and immoral people, but after reading this story, I honestly think these two people were worse. (They were sentenced to death in California, and various lengths of times for crimes committed in Nevada). It is simply mind boggling to me to hear the statistic that a homicide is committed every 36 minutes or so in this nation.
