The Sky is Changed.

Once upon a time, Aven Talavir lived in a sparkling empire beneath the waves, protected from the Sea-Above by a sky made of magic.

Then it all fell apart.

The four kingdoms of the Caspian Empire are united no longer. Aven is an empress in name only, her kingdom overtaken by her rivals, her city flooded, and her hope fading as she sets out on a desperate journey to find allies, and to take back the power she needs to mount one final effort to save her world.

That power exists.

She knows that now.

But the cost of wielding it may be more than she can pay.

The epic story that began in Sky Keeper concludes in this thrilling final book. Waters and armies will rise, kings and queens will fall, and the Empress of Sky will see her true reign begin…Or else watch everything she loves be swept away by a storming sea.

As a kid, S.M. Gaither spent way too much time playing video games like Final Fantasy and reading every book she could get her hands on instead of doing silly things like her assigned homework. As an adult…Well, not much has changed. Her goal is to write books that distract others from their life’s obligations, too, thus creating an army of fellow procrastinators over which she can reign supreme. These days, her personal favorite places to procrastinate are in the mountains near her North Carolina home, in the company of her husband, their daughter, and their very spoiled dog.

I have been thoroughly enjoying the adventure that is The Drowning Empire series this month. And this third and final volume in that series is the best of the trilogy! All of the characters—Aven, Kai/West, Adrian, and others—are driven to the brink, made to the face true and ultimate disaster. Every page is a thrill, and the hard-one resolution a relief when it comes. But there’s also sorrow in that relief . . . sorrow that this adventure has come to an end.

I’ve said it already, but S.M. Gaither did an amazing job bringing her world vividly to life. This is a perfect example of the kick-butt heroine fantasy I enjoy, with original magic, endearing characters, and a writing style that is compulsively read-able. I hope all of you will give it a try!

The war is on and Aven's name has been besmirched, she is no longer heralded as the Sky Empress but is now called the Storm Bringer and she is forced to flee her Gardian Palace because of her traitorous Council led by the power-hungry Greylock. She must now turn to who she hopes will become her ally as she travels on with Captain Maren on The Merrow on a treacherous voyage to Eleyna, the Queen of the middle skies kingdom. However Eleyna has always been a pacifist, preferring to keep her Kingdom safe through her neutrality during previous wars but now Aven is bringing the war to her walls. Will Eleyna change her stance in support of Aven's dream of a peaceful and united Empire? They would be facing the dredge led by Lia an undead who carried the jewel of the four kingdoms round her neck. The jewel Aven needed to get hold of to bring her dream to fruition. A brilliant ending to what has been a very powerful series with many twists and turns, betrayals and deceit, greed for power side by side with loyal friends and staunch allies and a heroine who never ever gave up on neither her love nor on saving her Empire. Whilst we were made to doubt the side Varick and Kai were on, time and time again Aven never veered from her goal to save the drowned world and strengthen the sky once forever, thus saving the pain and blood from her fellow Keepers. This is a story of great courage and personal sacrifice on the part of not only Aven but Kai and Cora and the gorgeous Finn as well, so when we get to see the downfall of some of the bad guys it is very satisfying. This last book is as thrilling and exciting as the whole series has been thus confirming me a devoted reader of all books written by SM Gaither.

The third and final book in "The Drowning Empire" is the best! A real page turner, full of action and magic! I didn't want it to end, since it means it's over... I will truly miss Aven, Kai/West, Adrian and all the other characters. I highly recommend this series to anyone who loves epic fantasy adventures!

I received an ARC from the author and I'm greatful for getting to read this trilogy.

Because this book was satisfying with their finale I will give it 5 stars. Like the rest of the books, it is clear that there are some spelling errors, typos and missing interpunction that is being overlooked. I still enjoyed the series and the world, but sometimes those mistakes made me lose focus on the story.

My first book by S.M Gaither was -- The Song of the Marked (Shadows and Crowns book 1). I was captivated by her characters and the depth in her world. The Drowning Empire is my absolute favorite series by S.M. The world is real and vibrant, and the characters are flawed and heroic. I truly wish/hope, that she writes more in this series.

This is a great read. It pulls you in right from the first page until the last. Its fast faced and action packed with heart pounding action and epic battles. The Author did a fantastic job with world building and bringing out the Characters. I definitely recommend this read.

I really enjoy this third and last book of that trilogy. Enough unexpected things happened.
Main characters must take difficulty decisions not one time. But they kept they courage and trust in good. And took responsibility to change life for all empire. Nothing will be like before.

This is the first series by SM Gaither that I have finished. It was so good and the ending to this book killed me. I totally did not expect that!!!! I love the writing style so much and cannot wait to read her other series.

Honestly, cannot believe how long it took me to get through this series.
The premise is intriguing. But I'm not the intended audience.
Glad I got through it, though.
