Having lost five years to prison after wrongly convicted of murder, Brayden Beckett is starting over. Leaving Texas to return to Montana is step one, opening a rescue sanctuary for horses in honor of his late wife is step two, and doing whatever he can to protect his heart from the pain of falling in love again is step three. Melissa Conroy has been in love with her best friend’s husband since the first moment she met him…so when he calls her out of the blue to offer her a job, she leaps at the chance. She knows how much he loved his wife but even if it only means being close to him, she is willing to risk the heartache of rejection until she becomes the other woman. Terrified of losing someone he loves again and being left alone, Brayden pushes Melissa away even as he can’t help but seek her out, until he pushes her away one too many times and she says enough. Now he’s at risk of losing her forever and his greatest fear has come true. Is it possible to have two great loves in one lifetime—and love both at the same time?

I felt the trope of dead spouse was overdone here as most authors love to do. And it just ruined the story for me. Because it dominated the entire book, not just the hero. The romance felt lacking, Melissa was just brazen and came across desperate. Yes, she was feisty (when she sluggged him in the stomach) but I just hate how much she chased Brayden to the point it got sad. Have a little pride and self-control. Brayden definitely wasn't ready to move on and so Melissa forwardness was just a bit much too much. The man probably thought it's a huge betrayal just to look at another woman. Not to add, his dead wife, Maisy, was Melissa's bestie. Yep, she'd been carrying a torch for her best friend's man.

Brayden mantra's that he can never love her got old and it lasted nearly to end of the book. Jesus Christ! His denial was pointless, especially given how little effort it took for Melissa to get him back into her bed. So many times I got pissed off at how Brayden was such a callous jerk to her. Behaving like a cold-hearted asshole. Blowing hot and cold. The way he would deny his feelings, pushing Melissa away but still sleeping with her. All the while telling her he will never love her. It's just sex. No one can replace his wife. blah, blah, blah. So infuriating. We get it.

In the end, Melissa had enough and finally left. About time I say. But unfortunately, it wasn't until months later that Brayden even attempts to go after her. At least without other peeps, friend, his ex-father in law, urging him to so. Sucks that other folks have to motivate him to fight for the heroine. He ambushed her at her new work, deliver a pretty little speech, and she jumped into his arms. All is forgiven, so not much grovel or work on his part. Guy got off easy if you ask me. He was such a stubborn, insufferable ass majority of the book. But Melissa accepts that treatment so I didn't feel too sorry for her.

Story ends with her planning to name her first child after his dead wife. Wonderful, congrats.

What a great start to what looks to be wonderful series.

I really liked both Brayden and Melissa. Both of them had a shared pain that in some ways brought them together but it was also what was keeping them apart.

I felt so bad for Brayden. I felt for like for the past 5 year his life was just stuck. I loved reading about him working towards getting his life back together and moving on not from just one traumatic event but two. I loved that he still wanted to pursue the dream he and his wife had and seems to really know what he is doing and flourishing.

I liked the character of Melissa. In someways her boldness was a little much for me but I think that was because I was secretly envious of her. She was very good with the animals and cared deeply for them. She was a perfect fit working with Brayden.

Watching these two circle each other was both heartbreaking but yet beautiful at the same time. I thoroughly loved reading this book. I can't wait for more in this series.

A new Susan Fisher-Davis series with hot men, all brothers this time? Oh yes, please! The first Beckett Brothers novel promises an outstanding series about a truly intriguing family. Brayden is a broken man, desperate to forget the last five years of his life. Melissa wants the job he offers her but covets so much more from him. She's independent, fiery, confident, and doesn't shy away from confrontations. My kinda girl, and she is definitely among my favourite characters in any series by Ms. Fisher-Davis.I can't wait for the next brother's story!

Omg, this was such a beautiful love story!!! Brayden and Melissa both had to find a way to move on from Maisy's death, Braydens murdered wife and Melissa's best friend. They both were in love with each other but they didn't how to embrace it and not tarnish Maisy's memory, even though everyone around them was rooting for them. Susan has written another great love story and I highly recommend you one-click this book to find out.

As always, Susan never let's me down when it comes to her cowboys. Brayden is one stubborn, quiet, hot and all around good man. He just needs a little tender loving care and Melissa is the one to reel him out of his funk and bring him back to life.
Great story Susan! I loved it.

I loved this book. I wish I had the courage that Melissa did with a man she wanted. She went after what she wanted. I know that some reviews say that she was too brazen, but to me, she knew what she wanted and went after it. I suppose some women would call that brazen but to me, that's just determination. Great book.

Hardheaded

This one had more depth to it. To have a man in prison for something he didn't do takes a lot of thought. This was good writing skills. Then to have her sister be the one who actually commit the crime sounds to much like a real murder. You can find love in some unexpected places and unexpected people.

Barbie and Ken go to Montana

"The on again, off again thing was wearing thin." Says it all! The characters were so shallow . Every man that got noticed was drop dead gorgeous and the women were beautiful.

My heart just broke for this man. Brayden needed some happiness in his life after all he went through but when Melissa shows up and lets him know she wants him, he just can't get past grieving for his deceased wife. It has a HEA and it was a wonderful story.
