Breaking the Rules by Sarah J Brooks a four-star read that breaks all the rules. This is a Billionaire Romance and it will whirl you away. River is a man who you could imagine throwing yourself at his feet, but he is so much more than you realise, he has a past that will not be left behind, and a secret that will change the lives of those he loves forever, and he needs to find out who is keeping secrets as well as he isn’t the only one. What better way to keep secrets that to hire a PR firm when he finds Mariah on the end of the line his mind is made up, she will be the one to keep his secrets. The problems arise when they try to avoid mixing business and pleasure as if they do Mariah’s dad will never take her seriously and that’s all she dreams about, isn’t it?
If you are after a romance with twists and turns and ups and downs this is the one for you.

Another night without sleeping! Thanks God I don't work on Sundays!!!
I have read 4 books by Sarah J. Brooks and love them all. This is my fifth and is no exemption. With all certainty I can say is her best work to this day. This book got me excited in many ways! You want to talk with the characters, hit them, be their friend and also their lover (hahahaha shhh).
River is a successful businessman that do not do relationships. He is a serial dater, that way no one gets hurt. He is in need of a public relationist, someone is threatening him with a secret he has keep hidden for 10 years.
Mariah has work for one year in her father public relations firm when she receive a call at 3am from a prospective client. She didn't know who he was till her friend told her, she just knows that she wants him and he wants her. He have a secret that she needs to keep hidden or turn it out in a positive way. She knows she can help him, but he needs to help himself too and his bursts of anger are not helping him a bit.
The lines between the professional and personal relationship blurs at the same time that the secret is not a secret anymore. Can River work his anger issues? Can they work together and keep a personal relationship? Can they turn the secret into something positive? Or is everything ruined by the time they take action?

I have to start off by saying that I really do enjoy Sarah J Brooks books. I have been on her ARC for a little while and her stories are amazing. This particular book was another good one. I felt like I was watching an episode of Scandal while reading this book. It was all about secrets and cover ups.
In this book River Stone is about to launch an important deal with his company and they are working with a christian family based company. Only problem is that he has a secret. A ten-year old secret that could ruin, not just this deal but his whole company. So River hires a PR firm named Public Waves.
Mariah has worked hard at her father's PR firm for a year. She has worked hard to prove that she deserves to work there, not because it is her father's firm. When the emergency line rings one night, she answers. She has a mysterious guy on the phone and he wants to hire her specifically to work as his PR firm.
Mariah convinces her father to let her and her friend Elizabeth take the lead on this one. When River meets her face to face he not only knows that he will hire her, but he will have her too. Will Mariah be able to help River save his company? As the secrets unfold and things get dicey she becomes leary that she can fix everything.
This book was a steady paced read. The characters were interesting and had some serious issues. The secrets at first don't seem to horrible, that is until the truth is twisted into something much more sinister. River is such a sweet guy and eventually this will start to lead to his downfall. Mariah is tough as nails and she has a hard time with River because he doesn't really want to help hisself.
Mariah could give that Olivia Pope (Scandal) a run for her money. She really tries to fix things and she is not exactly afraid to sink to a low-level to do it. River is always out to protect everyone and that is what is hurting him the most. Together they are great but would it be enough.

Mariah and River are headed heart first into a sexy and sweet HEA that needs no spin! Mariah has been working at her father’s PR firm trying to prove that she good for more than a pretty face on the marketing materials. When she answers the companies 24hr emergency client line to a sexy arrogant voice asking for the company's help in covering up some sort of pending scandal and he only wants to deal with her she knows this is her chance to and she is not going to blow it. When she meets with River Anders two things are clear - he's got something spooking him enough to take action and he is exceedingly handsome and going to be hard to resist. River needs to get ahead of the axe threatening to fall at any moment. This has been years in the making and it seems that the clock has finally run out. He picked Public Waves by the model in their brochure and commercials but what really sold him was the gutsy and intriguing girl on the end of their help line. When he meets Mariah Waves and they are one in the same he is even more assured of his choice to make her his PR rep, even if when she finds out his secret she will hate him. This scandal has the possibility to destroy not only everything he has built with his company and all the lives that entails, but an innocent will also be hurt in the fallout.

River has worked hard to get his company where it is today, he also likes to play-hard too and he’s earned himself the reputation of being a playboy. But that’s okay, he likes to keep his relationships short and just for fun, no settling down for him.
But there’s a problem brewing, a secret he’s kept hidden for ten years is being threatened to be revealed and he needs to a hire a PR firm to straighten it out.
Mariah is struggling to make her worth known in her dad’s PR firm, he believes it to be a man’s profession and doesn’t trust her capable of handling a big client, namely River. River on the other hand, specifically requests Mariah and she now knows that this is her chance to prove she is a master at her craft.
Is Mariah up to the task, can she save his company from ruin, secrets are revealed and she begins to lose faith in her own ability to succeed. And the attraction between them isn’t helping her concentration at all and River’s hot burst of temper aren’t going to help anyone.
This story has a good plot with an intense edge and the characters were interesting both with flaws, River was a little arrogant and had anger issues and Mariah’s faith in herself was compromised. I liked this book a lot, it had a solid storyline with a nice romance. The rocky journey to happiness was a very entertaining read. Great!

A must read if you love a down to earth romance with real life problems!
I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
River is a man who has worked hard to get where he is today and is known as a playboy. That’s okay with him. He keeps his relationships short and no girlfriend in sight. Life is easier that way, but he has a secret that can destroy everything he has worked for. So he hires a PR firm to help him take care of the problem.
Mariah has been fighting to earn her spot in her dad's PR firm, but he thinks it’s a man's profession and doesn’t trust her with the next big client that walks in the door. River requested her though and she is going to prove that she is up for the job.
River and Mariah have to work together to try to figure out who is trying to reveal the secret and what they can do to minimize the fallback once it’s released to the public. On top of that they are falling for each other.
I couldn’t put this book down once I started reading it. I had to find out what was going to happen between River and Mariah and if they could find happiness regardless of the obstacles going on in their lives.

What a plot twisting, full on frustrating, sweet heat, flirtatious, playful funny, romanced up read!
This is one of those books- once I started there was no stopping me from finishing this crazy frustrating hot maddening love adventure!
I was all over the place with my feelings for these characters, one minute I was rooting for them the next I am saying- RUN the heck away from ______! Then, I would think I know who is making the threatening calls; then id be changing my mind couple pages later- pure madness! I LOVED IT!
Sexy, fun. With light angst, detailed, with romance blooming throughout the novel- I fully enjoyed!

This was just a big fat NO for me. As soon as I learned the big secret by Chapter 9, I was done.
SPOILER!!
H had a secret affair 10 years ago with a married woman (Kimberly) and had a son! He KNOWINGLY slept and fathered a child with this woman who was married! Then after their ON, she breaks up with him and goes back to her husband (which by the way, they were not even separated at the time, but she comes across as this saint and sweet person even though she cheated on her husband and passed her kid as his until the secret was leaked!).
I'm no prude but as I would never accept or cross that line in real life, no way do I want it in my fictional romances either!
Additionally, it is written that H still cares deeply and will do anything for the ex - even give up his rights to be a father to his child to make her happy. As for the stupid h, all she cares is about getting laid! Anyone else would have an issue with someone who doesn't have any moral code and respect for the sanctity of marriage! I DNF after this chapter.

A riveting and suspenseful story that makes you hold your breath at times! It makes you wonder how would you handle a life altering scandal that not only affects you but a child as well. Or, how would you handle the PR nightmare that would ensue.
At first I did not care for River because he acted like such a hound and Mariah was too sweet and innocent to understand and deal with that kind of man. But, as their professional relationship gets tangled with their intimate encounters Mariah and River find a new maturity that reveals the deep emotional connection they share. It does take River to hit the bottom before he is able to handle his relationship with Mariah and the rest of the characters in the story. However, if Kimberly had come forward and admitted that River had never "taken advantage" of her, he probably wouldn't have faced any of his professional problems.
This is an amazing story that is well written with intriguing characters. My only question is, who is the anonymous caller? Did I miss it?

Mariah works at her fathers PR firm and although she hasn't been there long she's worked hard to prove that she belongs there. River a successful businessman likes to date but doesn't do relationships. River hires Mariah to help him with a secret he doesn't want out because it could destroy his company and a deal he's been working on. When River and Mariah meet the first time he knows she's the one who can help him and he decides he wants her to himself. Will Mariah be the one that can help River with his secret and the one he falls in love with? Mariah and River's chemistry is intense. This is an interesting well written story full of mystery, angst, romance, hot sex and well developed characters. A gripping beautiful suspense filled story of love and strength with twists and turns that will keep you turning the pages make this a must read.

WOW! I've volunteered to review this for the author. This is the first book that i read from Sarah J. Brooks. Now I'm completely drawn to her books. This will have you hooked from the first page until the last. This book was so exiting and I loved it. I had to know what was going to happen between River and Mariah. River is a very rich man who is looking for a public relations firm to help him with a secret that can ruin his business and reputation. Mariah is working at her father's company, wanting to prove to him that she has what it takes, and is determined to help River. You will not be disappointed in this story. You will have to buy it to see what secret River has. Highly recommend this story.

Oh my gosh, Sarah does it again by breaking all boundaries and changing all the rules in this amazingly fun read..I must say that I absolutely fell in love with all of the characters which all had background stories of their own. The book as a whole was very well-written and included a bit of mystery and left me in the suspense until the very end and that aspect of it I really loved.
I most definitely gladly give this book a 5-star review rating and highly recommend it to everyone who loves to read romance.

This book was so amazingly good! I love Sarah J. Brooks' stories and this was no exception. It is definitely her best, but she always out does herself. Breaking the Rules will hook you, keep you guessing with all the twists, and will hold you there until the end. The characters are so well written. Like crazy well written. They come to life off the pages and just helps pull you into their world. You must read this story!! I highly recommend it. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

This book had quite an unusual plot line.
River is harboring a secret that someone wants to use to destroy him. When everyone gangs up on him, only Mariah, his new PR consultant was left standing in his corner. Even the persons affected by the secret were against him. There were quite a few unanswered questions, and the story got twisted a few times.
I didn't enjoy this book as I did previous titles, but the entertainment and drama makes for page-turning reading.

I must say that River and Mariah needed kick up the a** sometimes.
The story is about a possible leak about River's past. River also has business deal coming up and this could all be destroyed if the secret gets out.

Sarah J. Brooks has weaved a great romance story with twists that will have you on the edge of your seat wondering what is going to happen next. Breaking the Rules is well written with well developed characters whom you can't help but like. If you like your romance stories filled with suspense, scandal, mystery, secrets, intense chemistry, and some much more, then this book is for you.

I really enjoyed this book it drew me in and I wanted to know what the secret was the twists and turns and the wondering what was going to happen next drove me crazy, I laughed I screamed and I got angry but when the end came I was sad but happy that it worked out, River, Mariah, Kimberly and Jackson and a governor thrown in makes a great read, if you love reading SJBrooks books that get this one you will love it as much as I did. So I enjoyed this book. At times I wanted to smack River and how smart mouth he could be. But that also made him who he is and why people fell in love with him. Mariah is a wonderful character and stands her ground when she needs to even up against her big bad boss who just happens to be her dad. Loved this book, Sarah did an amazing job with it. I was lucky enough to read an advance reader copy for my honest review.

What a fun sexy story!!
River and Mariah where perfect for each other. They have banter & chemistry like you wouldn't believe which makes for a story that will keep you hooked in every way.
Sarah's writing is impeccable in that she knows how to grab your attention and give you a light heartedness to it too. Fun, sexy and just overall great!
I haven't read a story, yet by Sarah, Where I was disappointed and this one won't disappoint either.

Needed more....
This story of River and Mariah was missing something. Sure, he was a billionaire Playboy. But, that doesn't give him the right to sleep with her, get angry and throw her out of his house, hop a plane and hit up a strip club, only to get arrested and call her for help. Then, they NEVER discussed it! Undestandably, they weren't actually in a relationship, but.... Come on!!!

Sorry I could not get into this book. The writing style was weird. One minute she writes in the first person and then the next paragraph it's in the third person, it made it hard to follow along. I thought the female was off as well, one minute she is over the top bold the next she's so shy she can't lift her head up to talk. I have so many books yet to read, I'm moving on without finishing this one.

Breaking the Rules by Sarah J. Brooks is a very good read. This billionaire romance hot, sexy and fun. I loved River and Mariah. They have a lot of chemistry and the characters worked so well together. Great writing and an interesting story make for a very enjoyable book. I am posting an honest review after reading an ARC copy of this book.

Mariah works for a pr firm that is hired by River. Their is an instant connection with them but with all the drama surrounded River their relationship starts very shaky. After the dust settled River and Mariah were beautiful together.

Review: I found this novel to be cute at times, funny and intense. My favorite part is when the Governor and River hold a press conference together after their hospital stay from beating the tar out of each other. This novel had me laughing, pissed off and yelling at my poor iPad and cheering for the HEA. It so worth your time reading!

A wonderful book that captivated me right from the beginning. Great storyline that is brilliantly written and developed. River and Mariah are wonderful characters with lots of chemistry and a strong connection. These characters are great together and you will love watching their relationship grow throughout the story.
