The McGavin Brothers #5

A Cowboy's Courage

Rate this book
Too hot to handle…
Firefighting cowboy Trevor McGavin is blindsided by his unexpected attraction to Olivia Shaw, the least flirtatious woman he’s ever met. But when her house is threatened by a wildfire in the middle of the night, he comes face to face with the sexy woman behind the strait-laced accountant’s exterior.

Young widow Olivia hasn’t looked at another man since her husband died unexpectedly three years ago. She’d accepted her libido had died with him. Then Trevor strikes a match with his late-night heroics. No one could ever take the place of her late husband, but is it wrong to crave the sexy, broad-shouldered cowboy who brought passion back into her life?

I love all the characters in this book, I mean, especially the McGavin brothers. What a lovely read with great characters and a splendid storyline.
I'm loving this series, and I can't believe how amazed I am about it. I'm so getting into cowboy stories. Loved it! 🤠 5☆

4/5

Where to begin, another great addition to the McGavin series. Unlike most of the other books, I’m not sure one would enjoy this as a standalone but it is without a doubt a great addition to the series.
I love the realness of Thompson’s stories and characters. She includes very real and very current details. For example, the fire tracking app on everyone’s phones. That is so realistic. It is also very current making Thompson’s novels appeal to the Millennial generation. Thompson keeps up with the times and has a way of adding a modern touch to her stories without taking away from the story or distracting older readers. She doesn’t go overboard with the modern elements but keeps just enough to appeal to readers of all ages. Moreover, despite being a Harlequin style romance, Thompson manages to add so much depth to her characters. The problems and obstacles they face are very real. They have other relationships that complicate the present, they have their own lives, hobbies, and interests, they have to balance work and volunteering, the struggle is very real just as it is for readers. This makes the characters so relatable. I really enjoyed that despite being a story, the characters face the problem of time just like I do. I mean, how many times have I wanted to meet a guy but our individual schedules just get in the way? Countless times. When Thompson added this to the story I swooned because even happily ever after is not an easy road.
There are a few scenes I particularly like throughout the novel but the one I love the best is when Olivia goes to the GG at the end. The contrast in Trevor’s behaviour is just written so well and I can totally imagine that scene happening until Olivia texts him. I also love the line with the twin.
I give this book a 4/5 partially because I think my expectations for Thompson have gone too high but also slightly because although I enjoyed the story, in terms of the writing I think there was some room for improvement, particularly the flow. Some parts felt choppier than Thompson’s books normally do. That being said, I highly recommend this book and am wondering if the mother that has made these wonderful cowboys will receive a love story of her own.
I was fortunate enough to receive this book in exchange for an honest review.

Overall Rating: 3.5 (sXe)

Quick & Dirty summary: Trevor McGavin has a busy life. He’s a volunteer firefighter on top of a full time construction worker. He enjoys building things and he enjoys protecting those things from fire. Olivia Shaw has been Trevor’s mom’s accountant for a few years now, but Trevor’s never paid much attention because Olivia was married. It’s been three years since her husband died and Trevor is working hard to save her house from a random fire. As Trevor pays more attention to Olivia, he can’t decide if she’s the one who needs saving, or if his heart will need saving.

I really love Trevor. He’s sweet, strong and incredibly kind. Olivia is a bit annoying and she’s the primary reason I didn’t rate the book higher. While there is a lot of action in the book that show Trevor’s sterling personality, Olivia seemed a bit oblivious. It is a little frustrating.

Despite that, the pacing of the novel is great. There is a lot going on that reveal the hero and heroine’s character and the McGavin brothers all appear in this book, so we continue to see their happily ever afters. This is a fun book to read with wholesome characters who do not engage in unnecessary drama. Just real life situations that would get the best of anyone, and sweet couples who work their way through them.

Is it worth buying? (Kindle $0.99)
Yes, this is some change well spent. Enjoy the weekend or relax one afternoon with this sweetheart.

Something else you might enjoy:
If you enjoy firefighters, you might enjoy Chasing Fire by Nora Roberts. It’s really exciting with a very attractive smoke jumper!

This one really seemed to fly by! Really enjoyed getting to know widow accountant Olivia (am I the one who hears it 'Ole-Livia, named her that 'cause she has old eyes'?) and construction worker/volunteer firefighter Trevor.

Who doesn't root for two really great people to become a couple? And both are genuinely nice.

Olivia's got moxie, putting her truck in gear and pulling her two horses off her property during a wildfire that ravage the nearby forest, razed her barn and nearly got herself home. She was afraid, had never pulled a trailer before, but it had to be done, so when Trevor put her in the truck and told her to go, she figured it out, rescuing Bonnie and Clyde.

She's attracted to The man who sat on her room, dousing it when embers threatened.

He's had the hots for her for a while and, seeing an opportunity to befriend the young widow, does. He tries to keep his crush under wraps but can't resist the woman always ready with his favorite sweet treat.

Loved seeing the relationship grow between these two, just as the chemistry between them heats from a spark to conflagration, engulfing just as the attraction consumes them.

Gotta love these McGavin men. VLT knows how to write romance, cowboys and love.

Thanks VLT for the ARC. Honestly loved this one.... only thing close to a complaint is that I wanted to continue basking in their glow a little longer. You really know how to keep us beggin' for more.

I have come to love this series . The last of the unattached brothers, Trevor, get’s his story.
As the previous books in this series, it’s a sweet, touching, heartwarming book about solid family values, honorable brothers, cowboys, and the women they fall in love with.
For Trevor, we have Olivia Shaw. Olivia is a widow who moved to the area when her husband was alive. She has been a widow for three years and knows the McGavin’s because she is their accountant.
She and Trevor strike a friendship , which develops into more. But not as much as one of them wants.
The question we are presented is can you have more than one ‘love of your life”, or is there only one that can have your heart?
The author gives us not only a well developed plot as well as sub-plots but also interesting characters. My only complain is that now all the brothers are attached. Would love to have a novella in which Kendra, their mother, finally finds someone for herself.
I was gifted this copy. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

Wow, these brothers make you want to pack up and move to Eagles Nest. Trevor is just perfect, he's attracted to Olivia but is willing to respect her boundaries since she is still grieving her husband. Olivia bites and gets more than she bargained for or even thought she wanted. Trevor definitely deserves 100% because he's giving 100%. I like Olivia but she couldn't see the forest for the trees, lol. Who wouldn't want a sexy, dependable, polite, not to mention breathing man?? Trevor is all man and he is not playing games, so Olivia has a decision to make...future or past. Their emotion and love gives a warm embrace to the reader. Love this family series, all of the brothers are not only sexy but so mannerable, their mother is their rock and she's done a mighty fine job with her sons. Another excellent story, this author never fails!!!!

Trevor McGavin & Olivia Shaw
Trevor is the last McGavin to find his love story and it’s a little bit complicated. He has interest in a widow who still in love with her dead husband. She’s attracted to him and they think they can do the whole friends with benefits thing, but it gets complicated when he falls for her. Trevor is a good guy and I love that he helps her out with the roof and repairing her wall. Overcoming his fears for her is a big deal and I’m glad he was able to do it. I love the parallel of Olivia’s story with their mother’s situation.
Fun and easy to read with heat, romance and family.

Wow! What a great series the McGavin brother series was 5 books and each book worked off of the others getting better. In the final book, Trevor the last of the brothers and twin to Bryce falls hard for widow Olivia. Trevor and Olivia start out as friends with Trevor helping Olivia with her home. They then become friends with benefits until finally Trevor cannot deal with it anymore he's in love. The Big problem is that Olivia is in love with her dead husband and does not feel that she can love again. Super book great series enjoy!

In A Cowboy’s Courage, by Vicki Lewis Thompson, Trevor is the last of the McGavin brothers to find his own HEA. His lady love is the family accountant, and local young widow, Olivia. Filled with humor and heart, the latest visit to Eagle Falls, the Guzzling Grizzly, and the farm, are everything we’ve come to expect from this series. Even better is the minor lesson about facing our fears. Both Trevor and Olivia realize that they must conquer their fears to truly move forward.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this novel.

This is a romantic and sweet story with some very funny parts. Trevor is a true gentleman, he's charming, kind, giving and hard working. Olivia is caring and stubborn. Trevor's reactions to Olivia are really amusing, especially when she's flirting with him. They are a sweet couple who will win your heart. The story is captivating and a great addition to the series. I recommend adding all the books in this series on your TBR list.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. This is my honest and voluntary opinion of it.

Loved Olivia and Trevor. She’s the accountant and lost her husband. He’s a firefighter and likes Olivia a lot. But knows she still loves her husband.
Olivia has feelings for Trevor that are so different then the ones she had for her husband. It’s not easy for her, but Trevor has done so much for her. He’s so patient when she’s asked him. But she’s isn’t sure
if she can love him. That’s when things go south.
Trevor can’t take it anymore. He has to let her go.
There will never be together.

Must read. Couldn’t put it down.

Vicky here we go again....I'm "in love" with another McGavin brother.... and I must say I love them all. Trevor is a hero with a big heart...Olivia is a widow who has only loved one person...can she learn to love again...Can they both conquer their fears "phobias" and what about her secret? I hate that I can only give this 5 stars...I read it one day and hated for it to end... I am looking forward to A COWBOY'S CHRISTMAS... is it Ryker's buddy or Kendra's story? I just know I can't wait...

Heartwarming and Sexy.
Trevor, a builder and part-time fire fighter, is the last McGavin brother to find love. Problem is, Olivia is still in love with Edward, her soul mate and late husband. How can he compete with that? A heartwarming story with brothers who support and look out for each other.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. I was not compensated for my review, and I was not required to write a positive review. The opinion expressed here is my own.

Trevor McGavin and Olivia Shaw have a lot to overcome. Olivia is still loves her husband who died three years ago. She finds Trevor very attractive but does not see how she can love another. Trevor is the last McGavin to find his HEA. I loved how patient Trevor was giving Olivia space to decide if she could give in to her attraction. There was an event that helped Olivia see that she could love her late husband and love Trevor. I thought it was a nice way to open her eyes.

Love Challenges!

A Cowboys 's Courage: Fantastic writing and story telling! Loved all the characters. Great challenges that Trevor went through to fall in love. I love how Trevor can always count on his brothers for any help he needs. I love the close knit family. Olivia is a smart women who has feelings for two men and one being dead. It was relationship that she just had to figure it out on her own but got hints from different people to help. Great story!

The last brother takes the plunge! Trevor takes his love of building, adds his need to save his town from fire, and sprinkles the courage to fall in love on top. Olivia doesn't believe she will ever love again after losing her husband, but realizes that Trevor could be a great friend. It's too bad the McGavins are so hard to resist!

This book is a great addition to the McGavin series.
Trevor is calmly living his life when he gets a kick in the heart by the lovely, but grieving, Olivia.
Can lust and passion lead to true love? Find out as Trevor tries to navigate around Olivia's sadness and bring her into his future.
I read an arc of this book in exchange for an honest review

Olivia and Trevor’s story was a perfect addition to this already great series. I love a strong, yet vulnerable muscled man, Trevor is that man. Olivia is strong and a survivor. The sparks fly and the sex definitely caught on fire! With a close-nit family and a strong demanding mother, a cowboy romance can’t get any better. Book gifted to me.

I have been loving this series and the McGavin brothers. But Trevor just stole my heart! He was such a gentleman through the whole thing. I loved the way he listened to Olivia and took her concerns seriously. They had such great chemistry going on, but he backed off every time she needed it. It was very sweet.

A Cowboy's Courage is definitely worthy of 5 stars! I loved the characters, Trevor and Olivia. She is a widow not looking for love and Trevor is a HOT firefighter who is surprised by his attraction to her. With great warmth, Ms. Thompson, has written a love story filled with emotional highs and lows as Olivia discovers that she can let go of her late husband and love Trevor. There is danger, a forest fire, there is extreme passion and together they are awesome! I highly recommend!

A sweet and sexy second chance at love romance

This was a sweet and sexy second chance at love romance about a widow that finds out that sometimes love strikes twice. Especially when we're talking about hot carpenter/ firefighting cowboys.

Compare to the book before in this series the storyline is a bit dragging, however, when the main characters get more involved with each other and the chemistry between them gets hotter the end comes for me too abruptly.
So only three stars this time ...

Another great storyline involving these two characters that you can’t help but fall in love with. We get to interact with the characters from the previous story and experience their love story. Looking forward to the next book in the series

Trevor McGavin is a construction worker/all-around-handyman and volunteer firefighter. Olivia Shaw is a widow and his family's accountant. She's attracted to Trevor, but doesn't want to be because she's still in love with her deceased husband. Her soul mate died too young and he cannot be replaced, or so she believes.

Then a wildfire claims her barn and the woods of her property and Trevor informs her, she is in dire need of a new roof. As he patches her drywall and installs a new roof, Olivia realizes she is attracted to Trevor, but she's not the sort of woman who can have sex with someone she is not "in love" with.

When she finally lets down the wall and gives in to her attraction, she informs Trevor their relationship will have to be "friends with benefits". He agrees to her terms for a while and thinks he can handle the platonic endeavor, until he realizes he wants more from her.

Will Olivia pass up Trevor's "real & living" love because of her the memory of her late husband or will she take a chance on living happily ever after?

I hope you enjoy Trevor's story as much as I did, because this is an honest review written after receiving an ARC.
