What’s in a name?
Way more than I expected. As in, more people. Of course, I knew I was not the only Sharon Rose in the world, but it turns out that some of them are authors, too. I’m the Sharon Rose who writes science fiction and fantasy for those who prefer a cleaner read.
Librarian Note: There is more than one author in the Goodreads database with this name.
A short beginning to a series, more like a teaser. Seems like it will be a good series, going by this short start. It could go in a few different directions, it'll be interesting to see where the Author goes with this story. It was an easy read, I didn't notice any grammar errors. To me it was a bit of a slower start, but did get my interest. It's also quite different, the leading female Tracy is not this drop dead gorgeous woman, by any stretch of the imagination. She also has no memory of her childhood, or much of her life, or what happened to her face. She as you can tell by the name of the book, like some others can read most people's thoughts.
Now, along comes Vigard who seems to know her and tries to help her out of her situation. He wants to bring her back to her family. She's being used for her gift, or curse. Since she could get in a lot of trouble for using her skill.
It will be quite interesting to see what happens. Everything about Tracy is a mystery. Heck, Vigard is a mystery just showing up one day. Things seem to be either in the future or science fiction, because they have different types of chips, and ships etc.
This was a fun short story. The author created a world and drew me into it very quickly. I felt an immediate sympathy for the main character so her stakes were important to me. This story raises mysteries, resolves them and twists, all in a very short space. I look forward to more fiction in this world.
This was a quick reread so I can work my way through the series. I remember being fully invested in this and I was right. The characters present a new, really interesting world that I want to learn more about.
This short story doesn't take long to read, but uses that time well. The characters, the world, and the story are all engaging, and leave the reader intrigued to know more. I'm definitely eager to read the next installment!
This short story was incredibly fun to write! The idea came from overhearing the phrase, "You can let me go or you can kill me.
The story sparked instantly. It was just pure fun that I hammered out in a single day. I had no intention of adding to it. Then the story world expanded, and I realized I could take Tracy and Vigard through an entire series of short stories with an overarching plot and ever-increasing intrigue.
That led to ten more stories. They were all a pleasure to write, but I will always have a special fondness for this first one. It also contains one of my favorite opening lines: "Tracy caught her first glimpse of him in the casino lounge. The only guy she couldn't see."
It's been two years since I published the combined version and I have finally decided to go back and read the whole set, one per day. This first one is only a dozen pages, but they average around fifty pages each. A good length, because I'm writing another novel, too.
**** SPOILER ALERT **** "Agents Of Rivelt: Vol 1, Never Blackmail A Thoughreader"" was my introduction to Rose's writing. I'm glad of that introduction. The author drew me in very quickly with their excellent world building and character development. Rose also wove action and exposition into a fine tapestry of a tale. Tracy, a thought reader, is enslaved aboard a Syndicate space station with no chance of escaping her handler, or so she thinks. Vigard appears and informs her that her name is actually Telnia and that he's been sent by her parents to rescue her. Together they work out a scheme to get Tracy off of the space station and home. I'm hungry for more tales from this "universe". I would suggest, that you, my fellow readers, get the full "Agents Of Rivelt" story arc by getting "Agents Of Rivelt: A Novel In Short Stories" and reading that. In the interest of transparency: I was given a free review copy of this book and I am voluntarily sharing this review. It is my own honest opinion.
I should have known how short this is, so I don't hold that against it.
Moreso things moved at a fast clip, so at times it felt like warp speed images dashing by.
In all its a breezy introduction to the world and the larger conflict that embroiled the heroine a few years previously. It doesn't have much more than broad strokes for the character personalities, but there's a genuine connection between our principles and hints at the bigger plot.
"Never Blackmail a Thought-Reader" is an intriguing start to the Agents of Rivelt series. The characters are compelling—a mind-reading, unwilling casino hustler and a green-haired bounty hunter (private locator…Sorry, Vigard) on a mission. If you like character-driven science fiction, set in innovative locations and brimming with high-stakes adventure, you'll love this series!
Short story as an introduction to the series. Sets up some interesting characters in an intriguing world. Definitely will read the next book in the series.
I received a free copy of this book and chose to write a review.
A short start to a new series. It sucked me in and left me wondering what happened next. I love a good adventure where the good guys win Thought readers. Space stations syndicates and slavers
