Each chapter contains case histories followed by the development of the case through questions and answers. The chapter also presents a synopsis of aetiology, clinical features, course of illness and treatment. There are boxes for summaries of key points and chapters end with a selection of self-assessment material.This book reflects the move towards a problem-based approach to teaching in medical schools. More responsibility is given to students for their own learning, and this book is geared towards self-directed learning and will prepare the student for examinations. Furthermore it can be used to supplement more traditional texts in schools where the transition to problem-based learning is incomplete.
