WHAT HAPPENS IN VEGAS . . .

How did a nice girl like Rachel Kline end up in a jail cell in Vegas? Don't even ask. She came to Sin City to find her missing friend and accidentally got swept up in a police raid. Even worse, she's being bailed out by the last man she wants to see right now: the irresistibly sexy, infuriatingly cocky Alpha op who rescued her a year ago. What are the odds?

Logan Callahan is six-and-a-half feet of solid muscle and Texas charm, a hard-fighting ex-Marine with a soft spot for Rachel. He's more than obliged to hang up his cowboy hat and help her out. But when someone takes a shot at her, he knows there's a good chance what happens in Vegas won't stay there. With targets on their backs and killers on their tails, it's one high-risk game they're playing. And it's not just their hearts that are on the line . . .

Don't miss the rest of the Alpha Security series:
Book 1 - Heated Pursuit (Rafe and Penny)
Book 2 - Holding Fire (Trey and Elle)

Also writes under April Asher.

April Asher, aka April Hunt, was hooked on romantic stories from the time she first snuck a bodice-ripper romance out from her mom's bedside table. She now lives out her own happily-ever-after with her college-sweetheart husband, their two children, and a cat who thinks she's more dog—and human—than feline. By day, April dons dark blue nursing scrubs and drinks way too much caffeine. By night, she still consumes too much caffeine, but she does it with a laptop in hand, and from her favorite side of the couch.

From the far left cushion, April Asher pens laugh-out-loud romantic comedies with a paranormal twist, but when she’s not putting her characters into embarrassing situations with supernatural entities, she also writes high-octane romantic suspense as April Hunt, her thrill-seeking alter ego.

I was running low on books to read and when I saw this novella up for grabs on NetGalley I thought I would give it a go. This novella is part of a longer series and while it can easily be read as a stand alone (as I did), there are events which (presumably) happen in previous books which give the two main characters a back story together.

Logan Callahan is a former Marine sniper and a member of Alpha Security. He has had a one-night stand with Rachel Kline, a school-teacher he helped to rescue 18 months previously after she was kidnapped and force fed drugs in Honduras. 24 hours later he is bailing Rachel out of a Las Vegas jail after she was arrested in a sweep of a local brothel and drug den.

This is a novella in the vein of Katie Reus. although Logan isn't quite as Alphahole and the sex is on the tame side (in comparison). It's a super short fun read but without having read the previous novels I felt no real connection to either Logan or Rachel. I did however like that the hero didn't have to be all guns blazing and macho 24/7 and accepted wiser counsel - that was a nice change of pace for this type of novel.

Overall, I liked it but I didn't love it. It was a good entry to see what April Hunt's writing and plotting were like to see if I might like the rest of the series but it was too short for me to develop any engagement with the main protagonists.

I received a free copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

Bumped for release.

Sometimes, not being able to remember the plots of previous books in a series can be a bloody bane. As a result, ‘Hot Target’—a novella to boot—felt like a zany read that had me tumbling into the craziness of Vegas with Rachel and Logan with a backstory that I struggled to remember despite the bits of retelling in this short story.

There was ample material to get on board with however, despite the brevity of the book (this came in at about 90-ish pages) and the plot, once in locked in place with the details hammered out, moved at a fast clip as Logan and Rachel finally stopped their year-and-a-half-long dance around each other. Logan/Rachel were an entertaining couple, though I particularly loved seeing Logan with the many faces he wore around people and the way that fell off when it came to Rachel.

Several unfamiliar characters that flitted in towards the end made me a little confused but I’ll probably remember this for the very, very charming Logan whom I wished had his own full novel-length novel just to get him in action.

Hot Target was a fast-paced and sexy novella! The story immediately jumped into the action and never stopped! I thought the plot of the novella was so much fun and very addicting.

Since this was a novella, you really had to read the previous books to get a better understanding of the characters and their history. Rachel and Logan had a lot of chemistry that had been built up from the previous books! Rachel has gone through a lot and Logan was always there to support her and care for her. It was nice to see them to really connect emotionally on a new level throughout this novella. They understood what it was like to struggle and try and recover from their past! Their relationship finally fully developed and became very steamy and romantic

If you are a fan of this series, this is definitely a novella you will not want to miss! This steamy and fun novella is a great addition to the series!

I received Hot Target from the publisher, via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Hot target is a romance novella from April's Alpha Security series. We jump in after a couple of books so the book alludes to events that have happened in the past, but we never feel like we have missed any of the story. It's really easy to read as a standalone, but if you are anything like me and a complete sucker for the alpha types, you will want to head back to the start of the series and find out more about these characters.

This was fun. I have a total soft spot for these types of romance. Rachel is a survivor who is sick of everyone treating her like she will break. Logan is a sniper who is feeling the emotional toll of his life catching up with him. When Logan is the first person to bail her out of trouble the sparks between them reignite.

Hot Target is some what typical of the genre, but it is very well written, like I said it was fun, it was easy to follow what was happening and I want to read more about these characters. They are all adorable.

Logan isn't as suave as he thinks at times, "...the co***m blasted from the wrapper, hitting him square in the face before plopping into the water. Shock froze him a split second, followed by the stinging pain. “Holy heck.” Rachel could sometimes be a wild woman, “you’re killing me here, sweetheart,” Logan groaned against her mouth. As the elevator came to a stop, his arm banded tighter around her waist. “Ready to maul me out in the open?” I liked this book, I loved Logan once the man set his eyes on something he was on the prowl.

I was halfway through when I realised this a part of a series. It's not like you have to read it serially but it's one of those books where everyone knows everyone and it just interlinks. Anyways it was very meh. Didn't do much for me.

This was DEFINITELY part of a series.. If you have read the series this wouldn't be a big deal.... There were some extremely funny parts to this romantic suspense. I do not recall any projectile condoms in any previously read books.

HOT TARGET was a quick, fast paced read with lots of action in the bright lights of Vegas. The story immediately jumps into things and stays at the edge of your seat the whole way through with a small slow down in the center for Logan and Rachel to connect emotionally. Rachel has overcome so much up to this point and Logan has supported her through all of it. Logan's past as a military sniper has changed how he sees himself and how others see him and this has greatly affected how close he gets to others. In this sense, they worked really well together because they understand what it means to struggle and remain disconnected.

While the plot was fun and adventurous, I did feel like the characterization depended too much on having read the previous books. Rachel was first introduced in HEATED PURSUIT when she's rescued from Fuentes, but it's been so long since I've read that one that I struggled to really understand her. I had no problem following the plot but there wasn't enough backstory to grab onto and connect with. Everything felt very surface level, especially the development of the romance between Logan and Rachel. This was the only thing that stood out negatively and I wanted more from it.

I received this novella from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review!

For a novella, this one took me a bit longer to read than average, however that was because after reading a page or two I decided I'd be better off reading the other books in the series first for some context. Because it's a novella, and thus a short in-between story, had I have not read the other books in the series, I wouldn't have fully understood all that Rachel went through before the book started (nor would I fully have understood the references briefly made).

Rachel Kline finds herself in jail in Vegas after going into a brothel to rescue a friend, only to be caught up in a raid. Bailing her out is none other than major southern hottie Logan Callahan. Suddenly finding herself in the crosshairs of a mystery threat, she needs to put down her (well-warranted) defensive walls and trust Logan to help her not only stay safe, but find her friend as well.

My biggest complaint about this was that it was a novella and thus felt too short and a bit rushed. I fell like Logan and Rachel both deserve a full book like the other characters in the series have gotten so far (and hopefully that the others who are not yet "paired up" will get...-hint hint April Hunt & Publishers!-

That being said, LOVE this series and this book! I'm a sucker for a good commando romantic suspense, and this one was good! Really hoping that April Hunt keeps writing more in the series!

Hot Target (Alpha Security #4) by April Hunt
3 stars
M/F Thriller Romance
Triggers: Drug addiction - forced
I was given this book for an honest review by Wicked Reads.

Rachel is a school teacher that somehow gets kidnapped and addicted to a cocktail of drugs against her will. When she is "better", her friend, Carly needs her help and she doesn't hesitate to jump in head first.

Then you have the alpha bodyguard who will stop at nothing to show Rachel that he can be what she needs - that he wants her despite all of her past. Logan is definitely the alpha in this story and while he was pushy and somewhat annoying at times, you truly understood that he wanted to keep Rachel safe.

Of the other stories in this series, this is the one that I have liked the least, so far. It was a fast paced story, but the chemistry between the main characters was just not quite right for me. Also, the strangeness of the story - who was involved and what they were trying to accomplished felt a little muddy.

This is a super short novella that is a part of a series but can be read as a standalone. I liked it but didn’t love it – it was just too short to become super invested and I didn’t have a chance to connect with the characters like I would have liked.

Rachel Kline is a school teacher who had a one-night stand with her rescuer, Logan, member of Alpha Security. Rachel was kidnapped and fed drugs – now almost 2 years later, Logan is bailing Rachel out of jail after she’s been swept up in a local brothel raid while searching for her lost friend. Logan just wants Rachel out of harms way but she’s having none of that and insists on helping to locate her lost friend.

I liked that though this is a short read it’s filled with a page-turning amount of drama, action and romance. I was pulled in enough that I’d definitely like to go back and check out the other books in the series.

Loved this book! I just recently discovered this author and am I glad I did. This is the latest addition to the Alpha series and has Logan rushing to aid Rachel. We first met both characters in the first novel and I love how the author put them together in this book. Rachel has struggled to overcome her issues when she rushes to the aid of her friend. Unfortunately, her friend wasn't there and, before long, Rachel is literally running for her life - with no idea why.

This is a a fast paced story that fans of the genre will love. The author made me fall in love with the characters and feel invested in their story. While this is a novella, the story was meaty and felt like a full book. This is a stand alone story, however, you'll enjoy it so much more if you've read the prior books. I've added the author to my must read authors' list. If you're a fan of the genre, you probably should too.

ARC REVIEW

Alpha Security #3.5, Wow this was only 98 pages!? Dang so much happens it feels like it was much longer than that. A very action packed novella. I was very happy to see Rachel and Logan finally get a story. This is fine as a standalone, their history is briefly explain since they met in the first book but goes into more detail about what happened after the first book with them. I love April Hunt she has great action, romance, and suspense; I thoroughly enjoy every book of her's that I've read. Of all the bad things that happened in Honduras Rachel and Carly becoming friends was the best thing that come out of the experience. Everything was going fine in their lives Carly was in Vegas working and began to serious date a guy but suddenly Rachel receives a panicked voice mail from Carly asking for help. Rachel drops everything and runs off to Vegas.

The books starts with Rachel in LVPD lock up her one call was to Charlie who was suppose to come and get her. Charlie instead sends the closest team member to her rescue unfortunately it's the guy she just had a one night stand with and snuck out before he woke up, Logan, who just arrived in town for a working vacation. Once he gets Rachel out their is an attempt on her life and Logan and Rachel have to run for their lives. It's obvious that Carly discovered something she should have and now Rachel and Logan have to find out what it is that Carly discovered and stop who ever took Carly from doing whatever it is that Carly caught them doing. Logan and Rachel have a pretty intense heart to heart while disguised as Elvis and Priscilla.

The romance burns pretty hot between them, Logan is all in and has been waiting for Rachel to catch up, but Rachel is having a hard time realizing some could want someone like her who's gone through what she's gone through and Logan has a fun time showing her how wrong she is and exposing all his vulnerabilities to show her just how damaged he really is as well. Overall it was a fantastic story. It also introduced two new characters (hopefully they will get stories of their own).

This is the 4th book of a standalone series about a group of men called the Alpha group. They seem to be a group that helps the government with various activities. I did try to catch up on this group by reading the first book in this series and it helped me figure out the general plot line. Rachel and Logan are the primaries for this book. Because I had read the first book I knew Rachel’s backstory so felt that I knew where she was coming from. Logan was always the happy go lucky one of the group, but he was a sniper in the marines. However that was all I really knew about him. This was an interesting plot but not very developed. If you want a light read in a contemporary setting with an alpha guy and a feisty woman, this is a good read.

Received in exchange for a honest review.

this was action packed and filled with danger and intrigue.

Rachel was a strong female lead. She is smart, loyal and sassy. Her friction/chemistry with Logan really made the book sizzle and also entertaining.

Logan you can’t help but smile at. He grabs you from the beginning. He goes to Vegas to help Rachel even though he knows he isn’t exactly on Rachel’s Christmas card list. He respects the heck out of her though. Logan is kind, sarcastic at times but very loyal and sweet. He can kick some serious butt as well.

The story is fast paced and really engulfs you into it. rachel goes to Vegas to help a friend only to end up in jail and chasing clues while trying to outrun the bad guys and find out the truth. Logan goes to help her out of jail and ends up helping her in more ways than one. He helps protect her, find out the truth and helps her take down the bad guys.

My favorite part of the story was the Elvis chapel. I have a thing when books go to the Elvis chapel but this one it was such a hoot. I also loved how Rachel went from being sassy and sarcastic to Logan to friendship and than submitting to the attraction. She made Logan work for her and in the process she got to really see what a great guy Logan is.

The attraction/tension between these two sizzles. The story is intriguing and entertaining. Rachel and Logan you like from the get go and you smile at some of the scrapes they get in and out of but mostly you enjoy their story. a wonderfully written romance that just has you from beginning to end.

If readers have read the first 3 in the Alpha Series this one will fit right in. Rachel has been in recovery and is trying to help her friend. She is feisty in a good way. She struggles to figure out what life has left for here and this story will have readers going back to the first 3 to fall in love with this over the top security series that readers will have to suspense reality.

For a Novella the story is filled with action, romance and lots of gun fights. The wild roller-coaster ride is everything you come to expect from April Hunt series and I can't wait to read more.

I received this novella free through Netgalley. This is a quick read for when you want a couple hour distraction.

This was a fun story. I usually don't jump into the middle of a series, but never really felt like I was lost. They explained enough of the backstory so I was able to catch up. The banter between Logan and Rachel is cute and they don't waste time trying to deny their feelings for each other.

Hot Target by April Hunt is book Four in the Alpha Security series. This is the story of Rachel Kline and Logan Callahan.
I felt this was easily a standalone book.
Rachel is out looking for her friend in Vegas but she is in danger. Logan had one night with Rachel but he knows that isn't enough...he wants more. Logan is willing to help find Rachel find her friend and work toward his goal of being more to Rachel.
Quick exciting packed book!

A short novella that would be great for those that love and adore this series. I felt it could be read as a standalone, but you would benefit more from having read the other books in the series. Unfortunately, I have not so I didn't really feel connected to these characters. However, I did enjoy it enough that I will begin reading this series soon!

Synopsis: Rachel heads to Las Vegas to help a friend in need and ends up in jail. She is bailed out by Logan, the man she has been dancing with for several months. Then someone shoots at Rachel outside of the jail, and Rachel and Logan are trying to figure out who is after Rachel while on the run.

What I liked: the connection between Rachel and Logan. Even though they don't have much on page time together, because the story is so short, it is easy to believe that they have a happily ever after. Both Rachel and Logan were protective of each other and respected what the other brought to their relationship.

What I didn't like: it felt as though these two characters, who have a history together, got short changed in their story. The entire story was about them being on the run and trying to figure out who was after them and why, and not about developing their relationship.

Overall impression: this was part of a series, and can be read as a standalone. However, if I had read the previous books, I feel as though I would have been upset about the fact that Rachel and Logan got short changed in their story. This was told in 3rd person POV, alternating between Rachel and Logan.

Usually, when a book has the .5 in the title, you know you are getting a shorter story, or a novella.
In this case, Rachel and Logan definitely could have made a full story work and, as it was a novella, I did feel that there was a bit of backstory that I was missing, and that I could have benefited from a little more detail in the backstory of the characters.

There was enough for me to be able to enjoy the story overall. And, I enjoyed the connection with Logan and Rachel. They had chemistry, and respect for one another, and I liked reading their story.

I am curious on the other stories in the series, as I have not read all of them, and the snippets I got from this one makes me think I just might want to read the others in the series.

I liked that Rachel was capable, no she's not totally an operative, but she was treated as a woman with a brain and not the silly female who had no idea what was going on or what was happening. That's always a nice balance, especially when the hero is an uber protective, alpha.

I enjoyed this title, and I do recommend it.

This novella is part of Ms Hunt’s series titled Alpha Security. Though it was entertaining and well developed , I felt I missed a lot due to the fact that I had not read the previous stories on which this one is based.
Still , I was engaged in Logan Callahan’s and Rachel Kline’s story and found both to be likable and complex characters. The storyline moved quickly from Philadelphia, to Vegas in an attempt to help Carly, a dear friend of Rachel’s . They had shared a heartbreaking experience.
The secondary characters, mainly Charlie, were also interesting , albeit the fact that a new reader like me , was be at a lost since everyone has a history that we didn’t know about .
As a well written novella, I give it a 4 star, but personally I would rate it as a 3.5. I would highly recommend new readers to start with book 1 prior to reading this one. I sure wish I had or that it would have been suggested by the author and/or publisher.

This is a voluntary review of an advanced copy.

This was book #4 in a series and while I could follow most of the plot, there still was some confusion about some of the characters and their relationship to each other. The back story which was only mentioned in parts was that Logan was part of a team that rescued Rachel and Carly when they were held as prisoners by a drug lord.

So, Logan and Rachel kind of know each other and have not acted on their attraction until their meeting in Las Vegas. It was fun to see them as they ran for their lives and tried to stay a step ahead of thugs trying to kill them as they searched for Carly.

I loved that the book combined romance and intrigue and threw in a good dose of humor! It was also nice that after knowing each other for a while, they now were able to open up to each other. I thought it was great that Rachel felt so badly for Logan when she heard that his fiance dumped him that she cried.

The conclusion to the kidnapping seemed to end pretty quickly but I thought the epilogue with the wedding was a great HEA and full of humor.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review of this book, through Netgalley.

I will start by saying that this is the first in this series or by this author, that I have read. I do think that some of the things that I didn't care for in this story were due in part to the fact that I haven't read the first 3 books and this is a novella type.

The editing and writing style were good. I think the characters were probably good as well had the first three books been read first. I was under the impression, maybe my fault, that thI books were standalone with cross story characters. Much of this book left me feeling as if I was missing a large part of what was happening between these characters, that there were big chunks of their stories missing.

Although there is definitely hot chemistry between the H and h, I just felt that this storyline was too rushed, with too many missing pieces to be fully enjoyable for me.

Hot Target (Alpha Security series) by April Hunt

More! I went straight online to see what other works Ms Hunt has written immediately I finished this book.

A wonderful read, well written and thoroughly entertaining. I loved the characters and the emotion written into the story-line.

The blurb uses ‘irresistibly sexy, infuriatingly cocky’ as descriptors for the story, yet I would add, charming and sweet, too. The flow of the story-line, from the first page to the last, is wonderfully compelling.

I could easily gush about how much I enjoyed reading this book, but then I would touch on the story itself, possibly giving away the twists – Read it yourself! I highly recommend Ms Hunt’s work and willingly accept criticism from those of you that don’t enjoy it – But don’t buy it solely on my recommendation; the blurb provides an accurate guideline for everyone to choose for themselves.

With her debut novel Heated Pursuit back in 2016, April Hunt came flying out of the gate with a fast-paced, action-packed and super-sexy story of a bodyguard falling for his assignment. Here, the fun and fireworks continue, with Hot Target and the simmering tension between the earnest, endearing Rachel and Logan, the man in charge of her protection when she starts dodging bullets in Las Vegas. The talk is sparky, the sex is steamy and the mystery comes together very well. It’s not necessary but probably helpful to read the previous books in the series prior to this one, as Rachel and Logan have met before but the details aren’t really made clear in this book’s novella-length pages. – Clara Shipman

I went into reading this novella with the understanding that the two main characters already knew each other and that this is the fourth book in the series. But, I did not realize that even though this is a standalone novella it would probably have been better if I had read the other books. I felt like I was dropped in the middle of a scene. That being said, the story was suspenseful and I liked the chemistry. I wanted more since everything seemed to happen so fast. Unfortunately, that is what sometimes happens in short stories.

Hot Target by April Hunt is book #4 in her Alpha Security series. This book is totally action-packed and I enjoyed following all this action. The story line flowed well and the characters are well-developed. I appreciated how the heroine, Rachel Kline managed to overcome some of her fears in some very difficult situations. That gal has lots of spunk! The hero, Logan Callahan is a tough, dedicated guy with a very pronounced protective streak. I liked seeing this in this hero.

Rachel Hunt is a new to me author. I plan to buy more of her stories since I liked this one.

I voluntarily reviewed this Arc which I obtained from Net Galley for an honest view.

Honestly speaking I had selected this book by just for the cover. Judge me all you want for this but bleh by the title and blurb it felt like there would be intense action and drama inside and it was really good. By the first impressions without reading I felt it would be another Alpha Male / Bad Boy or some mafia turned lover boy stuff inside but to my surprise it wasn't as expected. I liked the narration, the plot twists, the drama and action that was going on inside. This is a 4th part in the series but it can also be read as a stand alone and I must say I really wish I could review first 3 books over the blog as well.
