I'm an animal, exercise and tea enthusiast--I drink tea like a Gilmore Girl drinks coffee! I graduated from Sydney University with a Bachelor of Animal and Veterinary Bioscience, was an elite swimmer during high school, and love nothing more than curling up with a good book, a cup of tea, and my cat, Batman.

I'm currently working on Starlit, book two in the Reigntime Series, which will be out early 2018, as well as the third book in the Reigntime Series, and another series all together! Oh, and I'm studying my Masters of Information Studies too, which is fun, but being back at uni is a slow and seemingly endless torture... But enough of that!

I live for fantasy in all forms, and also adore scifi, paranormal and historical, preferably YA and NA, but I do love a ton of adult books as well =]

My rating system:

(Note: If I rate a book 1.5, 2.5, 3.5 or 4.5, then I'll always round up).

1 star: It was either a DNF, I really didn't enjoy the story, or found the book to be offensive in some way (though not a whole lot offends me haha).
2 stars: I didn't enjoy the book, but it had some redeeming qualities.
3 stars: I liked it, but didn't love it.
4 stars: I reeaally liked it, but it won't consume my life like HP, Outlander, GoT, ACOMAF, The Raven Cycle, and Red Rising...
5 stars: This book is everything!!! Usually 5 stars are reserved for books that make me feel every emotion, with wonderful writing, and are both character and plot driven.

If you admire J.K. Rowling, George R.R. Martin, J.R.R. Tolkien, Diana Gabaldon, Sarah J. Maas, Pierce Brown, Maggie Stiefvater, Leigh Bardugo, Mackenzi Lee, Brandon Sanderson, Jay Kristoff, and Jim Butcher, then we'll get on like a house on fire.

War and dissension are coming to the human world and those of the Reigntime.
Myall and Lexie’s enduring love is stronger than ever despite an ultimatum and past horrors haunting them both.

When Myall goes dark thank god for Jamie, Lexie’s best friend. Jamie has his own demons chasing him, but nothing keeps him from sensing the secret Lexie holds. And like any best friend he digs until he’s in the thick of it!
Reignish creatures, cranky “gods” and their rules start to smother, not to mention Uni studies! What’s a girl to do but break the rules and jump headfirst into the mystery her beloved has been keeping her from.

This story is the second installment in the Reigntime series, following Lexie, Myall and Jamie. This is a deeply engaging and thoughtful story set in high fantasy, adventure, mystery, and romance. It delves deep into relationships and the damage that can be caused by PTSD. Most of all this book is about love, friendship, and the acceptance and strength you find from those who love you and from loving yourself.
I highly recommend this book as it is entertaining and also very thought-provoking.

Sequels often tend to slightly disappoint me. They never quite live up to my expectations and everything about them almost falls flat compared to the first books (that are beyond amazing). There are a few exceptions, of course (Harry Potter, for example).

This book though. OH MY GOD. This book gave me a hangover. I don't think I've still recovered from it's awesomeness. It was one of the very few sequels I've read that managed to surpass the first book. It was SO GOOD that I could not put it down!

description

The Issues:
1. The usual issue with the beginning of most books and the only one this time. It was kinda slow for nearly half of the book but once the pace picked up, I did NOT want it to end! I was so disappointed when it did ha ha. I NEED the third book.
2. Not enough 'Myall and Lexie' moments. I hoped he would come back sooner. I understand why he wasn't there in the beginning but I'm a hopeless romantic so....

description

The Good Stuff:
1. Maz is a badass queeennnnnnn. I freaking LOVE everything about her! She's my favorite character so far!

description

2. I loved how Myall

3. The book was well-written as always. The author has a gift! She can write just about anything and make it amazing!
4. I love Jamie and Lexie's friendship. That's exactly how friends should be -- loyal, supportive and forgiving.

Random Thoughts:
1. I suspected that Kai
2. WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY did Lexie

3. Dahni's

4. There aren't enough words on Earth to describe how much I hate Càtis and Çaiël. They are absolutely horrible! I wanted to beat the shit out of them the whole time.

description

Roarn, on the other hand, was different. Is he pretending to be on their side? Is he a double agent??

5. I love the Stand and how united they are. Everyone has such an important role (although I wish some of them didn't have to do the things they do).

6. I feel like I'm forgetting to mention so many things. There was so much I loved that I'm having trouble recalling every single one of them.

Favorite quote:
"You have the ability to love so fiercely - it grants you courage, it lengthens your lives, and gives you a magic of your own." - Masriël

Overall Impression:
description

People. I'm going to repeat myself. PICK THIS UP. You won't regret it! I'm like super excited to read the next book.

But for now, this is me after finishing the book:

After reading Reigntime, I wanted to find out more about Myall's world and the other Reigntime creatures. Luckily, Starlit more than delivers on that front. A variety of different types of beings are introduced as the stage is set for a classic good vs. evil battle. I loved the new Reigntime creatures, they were such a fun group of characters. Plus it was enjoyable to see more magic and learn more about the Reignish world. Myall and Lexie are apart for most of the book but I enjoyed getting the chance to see Lexie interact with her female friends and Jamie more. The day-to-day details of Lexie's life did get a bit tedious. I think the pacing would have been better if the book had been shorter with the beginning half tightened up. If you loved Reigntime, definitely consider picking this one up!

I really loved this so much. Read the series. Read. It.

The second book to the Reigntime series. In this book, we continue to follow Lexie’s story as she dives deeper into the world of Reigntime and its mystery and wonder.

The storyline was unpredictable and had me enraptured and kept wanting more, to know what happens. Each scene and event is written with just the right amount of detail, description and dialogue that we as readers could clearly imagine what was happening but not be dragging on. And its so mysterious. I feel like everything is so well woven together that we get fed information that only later would we see how it connects. I mean, I still have wonderings and questions going around in my head that I want answered.

We get introduced to many new characters in this book. I must admit, with everyone in the stand as well as some new uni friends, I got confused sometimes. But once you get used to it, they all really add to the overall story. S.K Levy spends time on each character’s story, so we really get to know them and of course, as us readers do, get attached to them. In last year’s review, I mentioned wanting more Jamie? Oh, we get more Jamie, it’s so great.

The world building and setting is so well done I feel like I know and understand so much more of the beautiful world of Reigntime now. The maps at the start of the book are super cool and definitely helped envision what was happening in the book. And if you think the world building isn’t amazing, S.K Levy literally made up the Reigntime language to go with the book. There’s a whole word list at the back and its so awesome.

Starlit focuses less on the Australian background of the book, so there should be less confusion on aussie culture and slang this time round. Also, S.K Levy has made spotify playlists for both Reigntime, Starlit and several characters, so check them out!

If you haven’t gotten enough from the first line of the review, read this series. Especially if you like the YA/NA fantasy, romance genre.

*A big big thank you to S.K Levy for sending me a copy, you’re amazing!*

Get ready for word vomit.
This book was freaking amazing and the best adaption of PTSD that I've ever read. Levy writes like she has a PHD in psychology. She is very thorough in making sure her characters are dealing with what happens to them in the correct and healthy way.
I loved the relationships in this book! I loved that Lexie and Jamie loved each other without being IN love. Not every relationship has to be that kind of love story. I loved the side characters. I loved the character development.
I need to get to know Myall more! He's actually my least favorite because I really don't know him! Haha!
The ending hurts like hellfire. I cried. I NEVER cry because of books.

AGAIN I read this book in 2 days. I received an eARC of this lovely book and had to finish the other books I was reading before diving into this one because I knew I wouldn't be able to stop once I finished. Levy has done it once again and completely immersed me into both Myall's world along with an Australian culture! I love reading books set in different continents than my own because you get to see more of how other people around the world grew up and AUSTRALIA DOES NOT GET ENOUGH REPRESENTATION YOU GUYS. So do yourself a favor and read this series. kbye.

OMG!!! What can I even say about this book?! I was given Starlit by the author for an honest review. I had been waiting to get back in this world and with these characters, since I had finished Reigntime, so when I got my hands on this baby I was ECSTATIC!
First off, the writing in this book is amazing, I have hardly ever read a book that shows off anxiety and PTSD so well! It's something I suffer with, so reading it was like diving into my brain and my own thoughts. The coping mechanisms she used to help Lexie through was spot on amazing. I can go on for days about that....but anyways next we have Myall. Who's just as amazing and wonderful as he was in the last book. I want to say so much but I can't spoil this book for you, because I went in blind and I am so happy I did because I had no idea what I was in for.

BUT THAT ENDING......I was definitely just sitting in my reading chair with my mouth open for a good 10 minutes just trying to wrap my brain around what I just read!! GAHHHHH

Read this book people!!!!!!!

"Time is fleeting, pain is temporary, love endures. And, Starlit." Lexie brought her eyes to his. "In the end, the only thing that matters is kindness."

This story is the sequel to Reigntime. This story is told from the perspectives of Lexie and Jamie. The story follows each of them as they deal with the problems and conflicting feelings that they have. Lexie delves deeper into the world of Reigntime creatures in the hopes of staying connected to Myall's world after he has left, but this time, her best friend, Jamie follows. Danger follows them everywhere resulting in chaos for the both of them when Myall's enemy, Çaiël decides to play horrific and brutal games.

The Plot

The book picks up a few months after the events of the first book. The pace of the book starts off slowly but the action increases as the story goes on. Again, I was just amazed at the world that Levy has built and in this book, I definitely felt that the description and information on the Reigntime creatures was perfect this time round. It didn't feel like information overload and it combined with the story really well. I was also really pleased with all the little unexpected things that kept happening as well and I was left guessing till the very end ( I'm still guessing things 😂). The bane of all bookworms, The Cliffhanger also made an appearance at the end, and it has only made me more eager for the third installment!

The Characters

Let me start with my favourite character in this book: Jamie! Although he had less of a presence in the first book, I always thought he was a very strong character with a kind and sweet personality. In this book, he developed greatly. His need to protect his best friend, Lexie and the lengths that he went to by undergoing every single brutal and horrific moment Çaiël put him through was heartbreaking. He is one of those unforgettable characters for me and I can't wait to see him in the next one.

Lexie, as the main character was interesting. I love that she is very stubborn but she really does try to take so much on. I'm glad Jamie followed her and found out the truth! My heart broke for her when she found the devastating news that she had ALS, not to mention that she doesn't remember Myall or anything about the Reigntime creatures!! 😭

Moving on to the new Reigntime creatures that were introduced. I loved each and every one of them and if you told me to pick a favourite, I couldn't. First up, the villainous character known as Çaiël. I really thought the Huntsman was the worst thing, but Levy proved me wrong. This villain is brilliantly written about. She's merciless, ruthless and has a very, very devious mind. Her little soldiers were just as menacing, but I'm hoping that one of them will turn on her in the next book! 🤞🏻

The more friendly Reigntime creatures consist of a varied individuals, and they are all so strong for enduring what they do to protect Lexie and prevent war too! The little Elfmè sounded like such cute characters and for some reason, the Smurfs kept popping into my head 😂.

In conclusion, I'm going to tell you 5 reasons why you should read Starlit:
1. It's a brilliant sequel
2. The villain is so well-written, you'll feel dreadful for all the horrific things she does
3. There's a big, magic tree which is the headquarters! Talk about tree houses 😜. Seriously, though, this one sounds so epic!
4. You'll miss out on the cuteness of the Elfmè
5. Don't you want to know what happens at the end?! 😜

Before we even start this review, I need to tell you that I really struggled writing it. I’ve written and re-written too many times to count, trying to find the words to give justice to one of the best books (and series) that I have read in my 24 years of existence.

My journey with this wonderful world started when the lovely S.K. Levy sent me a copy of book one in this series, Reigntime (You can read me rave about it in my Review) so I was super excited when Starlit arrived at my door. What I didn’t expect was to fall even more in love with the world, characters and atmosphere that is the Reigntime.

Starlit builds on the story of Lexie and Myall, propelling the reader further into the strange and magical world that is the Reigntime. Levy’s ability to paint a vivid picture in the readers mind honestly astounds me, particularly in this book where characters travel to mystical locations in a bid to defeat the villain and save each other’s lives. While Starlit is much darker than Reigntime, each character has more room to develop and evolve as the story plays out. Lexie remains one of my all-time favourite characters, evolving from a seemingly normal nursing student to a confident, courageous character willing to do anything for the people she loves. This book also gives more insight into characters like Myall and Jamie; I still cannot fault Levy’s ability to develop dynamic and relatable characters!

Straddling the line between reality and fantasy, Starlit will both capture your imagination and tug on your heartstrings. With twists and turns at every corner, this will be one that I reread over and over again. I will admit to reading this book quite slowly, purely because I wanted to cherish it, hoping that it would never end (and what an ending it was- I had a definite book hangover for a very long time!)

I seriously encourage anyone and everyone to get stuck into this series, I am already desperately hanging out for book three!

I give Starlit by S.K Levy 6 out of 5 stars.

This is the second book in the Reigntime series and I have to admit that I loved it even more than the first book. But don’t get me wrong, I absolutely loved Reigntime too.
Levy’s writing style vastly improved in Starlit and the overall plot was so well done. The way that Levy portrayed PTSD was incredibly well done and made to be believable which is always difficult for some writers to portray.
We were introduced to so many new characters in this book as well as the Reignish world and I loved being able to learn so much more about the creatures and world that Levy has created. I was a bit disappointed that we didn’t get to see as much of Myall this time however I felt that that void was partially filled with the introduction of so many new Reignish characters. We also got to see more of Jamie this time which I especially loved as Jamie has quickly become my favourite character of this series so far and I cannot wait to see more of him and learn where Levy takes this series in the next book.

Overall I really enjoyed reading Starlit and would highly recommend this series to anyone that loves reading young adult fantasy genres.
