Coming in Last

Rate this book
Jamie McAdams expected it to be an open and shut case of embezzlement. The finger seemed to be pointed right at Andi Morrow, the quiet young lady who ran the daycare center at his godfather's plant. Of course, she didn't exactly have access to the cash, but she did live seriously outside her means. Andi smelled like vanilla, tasted like sex, and moved like sin. It only took a few days for Jamie to realize he was hooked, and she was being framed. But maybe he should have told her that, before they used her as bait to catch the real embezzler. Jamie always gets his man, even if it means coming in last with the woman he's fallen in love with.

This was my first book by Shiloh Walker. If this is a good example of her writing, it surely won't be my last. :)

I loved everything about this book: the hero and the heroine (Jamie and Andi were great, both of them), their lovemaking scenes (pretty tame for an erotica, but wonderfully written), the plot (very realistic, without all the adrenaline-packed, gun-fighting action that many books have) and even the secondary characters (Mick, Jamie's cousin, wasn't just a "decorative" character and actually played an important part in the story). Yeah, I loved it!

Another emotional and sexy story from Shiloh Walker. Jamie is one hot male and Andi is an intelligent and strong lady. Such a relief that neither has any TSTL moments. The relationship between them sizzles but is also very sweet. There's some good angst that will really grip your emotions. There are hot, inventive sex scenes. Why this novel isn't better known is the real mystery here.

This was an extremely sweet, sexy story between private investigator Jamie McAdams and day care worker Andi Morrow. Jamie is investigating a case of embezzlement at his godfather's plant and someone has pointed out Andi as the possible suspect. The moment he sees her, he knows she's not the embezzler. Even though she is living beyond her means as the runner of a day care, she smells sweeter than any woman he's ever known and has an air of innocence about her that he knows isn't fake. Not only does he know she's not a thief, he also knows he's just fallen for the only woman he's ever going to love. This sets up an eventual heartbreak because as he tries to stay clear of her, his business partner sets up a trap with Andi as the bait. This places her life in danger and wrecks her hard earned sense of family and trust within the plant. All Jamie can do is hope that Andi knows how much he cares for her when the plan is revealed, and pray that her sense of betrayal is outweighed by their newfound love.

This was my first Shiloh Walker book and I was extremely impressed by the depth she gave her characters, especially Andi. When Andi hurt, I hurt. The level of emotion that Shiloh poured into this story was heartbreaking and I loved every second of it. It starts off a little slow and it's a little disjointed in places but stick with it though, because it's going to be a beautiful ride. The sex was sizzling and inventive. All I'm going to say is, "I love shower scenes!" This wasn't a mindless romp in the sack for either Jamie or Andi and I really liked that. I felt like I was watching a sexy, extremely sweet and slightly raunchy *grin* love affair develop and I can't wait to read more from Shiloh Walker.

I do so enjoy Shiloh Walker's heroes. This one is Jamie. And he can't quite figure out why he's on fire for a woman who is likely an embezzler. Maybe it's because she smells like vanilla, tastes like hot sex, and moves like a wet dream.

Andi has some pretty big trust issues. She hides behind fake glasses, oversize clothes, and the children she cares for.

You can feel the sexual tension between these two and boy is it scorching! Ms. Walker doesn't stint on the feelings either. These two have some pretty big problems to overcome before they can find their happy ever after. Well done!

Histoire bien ficelée, mais est composé à 80% de scene de cul qui n'apportent pas grand chose à l'histoire et aux personnages.
A de nombreux moments l'histoire passeau second plan.

Coming in Last is an enjoyable, if fairly forgettable, read by Shiloh Walker.

Handsome, sexy Jamie McAdams and his partner Mick are called in to investigate an embezzlement case at Jamie's godfather's business. The primary suspect is Andi Morrow, a subtle beauty hiding behind baggy clothes and glasses she doesn't need, who runs the in-house childcare and nurse facility.

Their attraction is immediate but inconvenient to them both. Andi has had a troubled life growing up in foster homes and she finds it hard to trust and let people close. Jamie is a player who is not ready to settle down. He's there to investigate Andi and just wants the job done so he can go back home.

Coming in Last would have benefited from some editing. There were a number of what I found to be small but irritating repetitions:

"Sweat poured down her back, soaked the sturdy cotton of her sports bra, and stung her eyes. Every muscle in her body sang with each movement and her breath sawed in and out of her lungs. She blocked a jab with her hand, feinted and succeeded in clipping her opponent on the chin.

Her face was flushed, sweaty, her dark red hair clung to her cheeks and neck, and plastered to her head under the padded head gear she wore. Sweat trickled down between her breasts, soaked up by the sturdy black sports bra she wore."

Also, for what is catalogued as a Romantic Suspense, there was very little suspense and I felt Andi's reaction to Jamie's actions was unnecessary and unwarranted. Shiloh Walker writes some great Romantic Suspense but I think she does better in full length novels (Fragile, Broken, The Missing).

Jamie McAdams is investigating money being embezzled from his Godfather's company. Andi Morrow's spending habits of late make her the prime suspect. Andi runs the Daycare at the plant and although quiet, quickly defends herself to Jamie as he accuses her of the unthinkable.
Realizing his error, he and his partner come up with a scheme to bring the real embezzler to the spotlight, using Andi and her attraction to Jamie as bait.
This book was so good! I loved the plot, and the characters and the relationship that was developed between them was HOT! This author is quickly becoming a favorite of mine! I look forward to other books written by her.

Coming in Last by Shiloh Walker 3 1/2 - 4 stars

This is a nice contemporary/romantica novel. Andi was in foster care as a child and has worked hard to better herself and has succeeded. She is a nurse who operates a daycare and company infirmary at a large factory. She is young and independent.
Jamie is the godson of the factory owner Jeb and is investigating embezzlement at the company.
It took me a little to warm up to Andi, she was very prickly and seemed too worldly for her age (regardless of her difficult upbringing) but I wound up liking her very much.
Jamie was just sexy-yummy hero material who realized pretty early on he was in love with Andi.
Without spoiling, I can say the conflict was handled and resolved in a satisfying manner.
Recommended.

Hmmm... Well, lessee... Our H went from being a player to falling for a...nurse? within 15 minutes of meeting her. Sex was hot and kinky, except when it wasn't (that makeup round wasn't). The plot was ok, the H failed to let the h know that he was using her for bait (why there was the necessity for a makeup round in the first place). Someone should explain though that average height for women is 5'4", so our heroine wasn't exactly tiny, and curves do not = statuesque. (I think of an Amazon when I see that word)
