Beyond the prose which at times was eyeroll inducing - an orgasm clawing it's way out? What was it - part Alien?! The switch to mainstream publishing seems to have been a good thing for this author. There's an actual plot, some action that isn't horizontal, a H who has no prior knowledge of the h (at least, none that he remembers - she wiped his memory of a v. brief occurrence a few years ago, because she didn't know he knew there were "others") and therefore isn't an utter ass towards her.

The beginning is kindof a prologue - the H and his best buddy are bounty hunters. His best buddy is a cat shifter. They track down a job who skipped bail, all hell breaks loose when a couple of vampires show up, and the h and her hunter teammate show up in the nick of time. She doesn't realize that he and the cat shifter are buddies, the shifter is hurt, so in their efforts to clean up everything, they rearrange memories - something that only partially sticks.

2 years later, he's become a vampire hunter and spots her. His memory rearrangement being dodgy, he assumes she killed his partner. He's a bit startled to discover his partner is now her teammate.

Of course, this being a romance, it quickly devolves to a biblical getting to know her better but... in the meantime, her partner is kidnapped by a former ward of hers.

Eventually the problem child is run to ground and taken care of, but not before she turns the H.

The one thing that does bother me - why does the H's partner NOT ask them what they did with his buddy? Why did he let him think he was dead? Why?????

This is an easy paranormal to dig right in. I enjoyed the book and wouldn't mind reading more in this world.

I looked at this series at the bookstore, and I bought what I thought was book one, when it really was book eight. Oops. The good news is, it didn't affect the readability of this book and also, in my opinion, it's always a good thing is book 8 of a series keeps you entertained, as so many series I have started (Dark Hunter, Anita Blake) have petered out and gone bad in the later books. So I'm excited to read more of this Hunters series!

The plot was full of action and definitely kept me interested, and the sex was hot hot hot! Loved it!

At the time I started reading this book I had no idea it was #8 in the series. Even though its a middle book, the fact that it opens with a prologue in a human’s perspective makes it all the more intriguing. The male character [Kane] is getting you the reader caught up on the intense situation right off the bat and you feel that you can understand all of what is going on to the point that he does. We are introduced to a world that has shapeshifters and vampires, and you are figuring things out just like him. Then we flash over to the females perspective [Kendall] (side note: I love when books have two POV protagonists) and now we are learning even more about the mythical characters because, her being a vampire, she has all the knowledge! We are not overloaded with word vomit trying to explain a huge backstory, but it is a little meaty.

The book officially starts two years after the initial meeting. We don’t have to wait long before the characters cross paths again. There is some backstory to explain the gaps as the book develops, and again not filled with too much fluff words. I found the story stuck to the point and gave a good amount of information. It develops a little slow in the first part, but again has to explain this new world and how things work. When reading a Paranormal Romance there will always be different attributes to each mythical creature. I experienced this book as explaining things slowly when needed and not trying to overwhelm the reader with too much too fast on how certain paranormal aspects were.

I loved the intensity between the characters, its always fun when there is really good banter between them. There is a strong female lead and they will not come together easily. This book kept me on my toes; filled with sexual tension, perfect amount of violence blood and gore, and tidbits of characters from past and future books in the series. There is a good amount of detailed love scenes, and during most of the scenes you read about how the characters are developing and processing their feelings which adds to the overall story. It is not just a bunch of smut paragraphs, but a dictation of how a bond is forming; one that we can only be envious of and hope to find in our real lives…(minus the blood sucking part :P)

The first half to two-thirds was acceptable, the last bit became a boring drag as Kendall cried about _everything_.

Things that especially bothered me:
1) There was entirely too much use of the word “pussy.”
2) There was entirely too many male dominated sex scenes, as in he picked and chose everything they did. As the female lead is a 300 year old vampire, with presumably a few years to learn what she wants and the resulting strength to bodily haul someone around as her love interest does with her, and the love interest himself is a mere human, I found this disappointing.
3) There were far too many instances of Kendall screaming as well as “screaming his name” during sex. I never foresaw her as a screamer. Again, a 300 year old vampire would have some wiles if not decorum.
4) This sentence: “And throughout the storm, Kane held her, nuzzling her temple with his lips, murmuring to her, soft little nonsensical sounds that made no sense.” Where is the editor?

Heat Factor: She’s a fucking Surprise Virgin

Character Chemistry: Fate keeps bringing them together. Or something.

Plot: She is a vampire who hunts vampires. He is a human who hunts vampires.

Overall: DNF at 30% after the first sex scene

Premise was good, but I'm tired of supposedly strong female characters who cry through half the book.

"Hunting the Hunter" by Shiloh Walker. Book 8 of The Hunters series.

I really enjoyed this addition to The Hunter series. The storyline was excellent focusing on the characters Kane and Kendall. If you have not read any of the other books in the series, that's OK. This book reads like a stand alone. It does not intertwine with the previous books with the exception of one character who has already been introduced into the series. She fits into the storyline perfectly with an explanation of who she is that works for the progression of the story.

Kane can't stop thinking about the beautiful woman he saw that terrible night. The night his life changed forever. Kane is a bounty hunter and now he's on the trail of the woman he saw that night but not for a bounty, he wants to kill her. She's a vampire and she killed his best friend Duke. He will do whatever it takes to track her down. But when he finds her, he's not sure if he wants to kill her or seduce her.

Kendall is being followed. She knows it. Everywhere she goes he's there, the gorgeous guy with golden hair. She's seen him before at a chance encounter one night. Regardless, he knows she's a vampire and that is not acceptable, especially since she already wiped his mind years ago.

The storyline moved along quickly. The descriptions of situations were very well done. The chemistry between Kane and Kendall was really steamy. I enjoyed this book very much. I look forward to reading the next one.

**SIDE NOTE**
The copy I read was an eBook. There was some technical difficulties with the copy. The chapters of the book (after chapter 9) were not in the correct order. I had to keep going back to the Table of Contents to find the right chapter to read. But that's just a technical error, the story is still complete.

Unfortunately, this book did not live up to its potential. Kendall and Kane have good chemistry, and it was a nice change for the woman to be the vampire with the advantage over the man. However, that did not make up for the plot not appearing until 2/3 of the way into the book. And, once they realized who the enemy was, instead of going after her, the reader is treated to 20 + pages of Kendall whining about how she can't lose Kane (really). The kick-butt vampire hunter is suddenly weeping every other page and her man has to comfort her.

It is romance; I expect sex. But, it just interfered with an already weak plot instead of enriching it. When they know their fellow hunter is in mortal danger, do they rush to his aid? No, they have sex. Several times. And, of course the man dominates the sex scenes. I like a bit more equality between sex partners. This book wasn't a bad read--if you have nothing better on your shelf. I highly recommend reading Sherrilyn Kenyon, or Angela Knight before picking this up. And, I won't be going back for the sequel.

As an example of a vampire romance this isn't a bad one. However it has it's serious flaws. It meanders a lot and has issues with focus, jumping around the place instead of getting to the point. It's not a bad read, but it's not the best thing I've read and although I'd recommend it, I wouldn't wax too enthusiastic about it.

Kane, the hero, is an interesting character. Kendall is not a mint cake but the female lead, a vampire. She's a hunter and teamed with Kane's ex-partner Duke. A were-cat that Kane is certain is dead. Both Duke and Kendall are Hunters, people who police the supernatural community. The best character is Agnes, a 500 year old witch, although I'm not sure that she isn't an out for more solid plotting.

Yes, it's not the greatest reads but it earned an extra half point for keeping me up to finish it!

I picked this book up on a whim at borders. I am a sucker for a good paranormal romance and this one looked promising. Normally I would have tried to start at the beginning of the series but 1) I couldn't figure out what the actual order was (when will series books learn to just number their books?) and 2) it looked like I would be able to get away with reading out of order.

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. It was quite easy to jump into the Hunter world. At times I did wish I knew a little more history on the Hunter organization and history but that's my fault for starting so far into the story. I found Kendall to be a likable heroine. Kane's sexy and tough and a good counterpart to Kendall. Overall I enjoyed the book and am interested in picking up others in the series.

I LOVE the heroes in Shiloh's Hunter books, but Kane was almost unbearable. I hated him. This was the first book I ever read by Shiloh. It's a good thing that I absolutely adored Vax and Duke, or I wouldn't have continued on with the series. This book was recommended to me because I was looking for a book with a mortal hero and a vamp heroine, but Kane was too arrogant and cocky for a mortal. It just rubbed me the wrong way. I'm glad he doesn't show up in any of the later books that I've read. Hate. Him. I didn't really care for Kendall either. Duke, Vax, and Nessa were definitely the best part of the book. Worth a read just so you'll know the beginning of Duke's story. I love his book, Hunter's Need.

This book is part of a paranormal romance series, and for once, I read out of order. I feel that I lost very little for the lack of context. Honestly, the context is so very much like every other urban fantasy/PNR that it just didn't matter. The story is about a good vampire huntress (she hunts bad guys as her job for a secret paranormal group of warrior/protectors) getting together with a vampire hunter who has it out for her because he thinks she killed his best friend. Turns out, she made him her partner. Eventually the story evolves into tracking down an insane vamp who has it out for her.

The prologue was great but after that it took me 5 chapters to get into it. I'm glad I stuck it out. The characters were god sexy and made me want to peel off my damp underwear. Haha. It was inevitable that homey was going to be made over, even if it weren't homeslice that turned him. Though happily can say it wasn't anti climatic! Thanks god. There were a few unanswered questions that leads me to think there will be more coming in a follow up, (have no idea if this is a series?) and could definitely go for another round of this. Love domineering males that make you feel like a female. Mmmm

This is the story of Kane and Kendall. Kendall is the Hunter and a vampire who watches over the Humans and takes out those Humans that prey on the innocent. Kane is a ex-soldier who is a bounty hunter partnered with a Werelion. When Kane's partner is presumed killed he thinks Kendall was responsible and he goes looking for her. The sparks do fly and things get hot between them. As for what else happens I will leave it to the reader to find out.

Now this is the Shiloh Walker I wanted to read. The earlier Hunter books in the series are rather poorly written (but quite erotic) and characters were not handled deeply or well developed. I loved getting to know about Kendall and what made her tick, and Kane's odd talents as a mortal who was also a self-styled hunter. A very enjoyable book and my second time through, but first time reading in order.

So far. it's a pretty good book. The heroine is actually the focus of the story, which is different for me. I generally prefer the male point of view, but there's enough of that to keep me interested. The hero is a little vertically challenged for me, but he makes up for it in other areas. *wink wink* He is also very generous and there is some very light bondage. Unless something drastic happens. I'm a fan. Totally enjoyed this book. I most definitely will continue this series.

Kane and Kendell were great. I love Kane, he was funny and forceful considering she is a vampire he really held his own. The author made them great equals and gave Kendell a very feminine side there were a few times I went Why are you crying but all in all it was GREAT!! I have a few more books by her and I will read them all over the next week to get caught up. I've never read Shiloh Walker but she's a great author and her books are page turners.

I'm always a sucker for books dealing with the supernatural. I love it even more when a new author I discover takes a genre that has been done over and over in the past and makes it all her own. Will definitely be reading more of this series. Also one of the first books in a long time where I pretty much liked all of the characters.

although I Really liked this book it wasn't my favorite of the Hunter books... I felt like there was a lot that wasn't explained very well and she threw in several "flashback" type chapters to try and catch you up on why everything happened the way it did. Also This book was published by a different company so it just had a overall different feel to it, not bad just different.

OK here's the thing.... I have read Dukes story so I know half of what's going on in this one too early. So I cant muster up the energy to keep reading. So although I love Shiloh Walker I am giving up on this one but I will be reading the others my local library buys for me.

It is about time chicks kick butt! This is a great female motivator that says woman don't need men to protect them... we do quite well on our own. However, there are a few steamy scenes at the aid of a man...yum!
