The dragons are caught in the clutches of Xing, and the situation is looking very dire for our heroes.

With this volume we wrap up the Xing arc. This entire arc was so cruel to the dragons, and that made it so hard to read at times. I hate seeing them treated as objects or something to take possession of, as if they’re not also people with their own thoughts and feelings. That was a pretty unexpected development at the end of the last volume, though I feel I shouldn’t have been that surprised as Zeno’s been hinting, on more than one occasion, that there’s a lot more to the dragon power than what the heroes currently make use of; it was just really surprising to see it in action. We also get to see more of the darkness that is in Hak’s heart. This really is one of my favourite portrayals of a dark and broken hero, because for the most part I do think he’s good at containing that darkness and because its so easy to root for him, I am constantly hoping he’ll overcome his internal struggles. I do like that it’s ultimately Xing’s heroes that deal with the situation, and Kouran really is one of the coolest characters introduced in this series. I did ultimately feel that this arc was too long though, and I’m still not over how annoying Gobi is. And Su-won just completely disregarding Gobi, that was amazing, I’ve never liked Su-won more than in that moment. I imagine Advisor Kye-sook is going to cause problems for our heroes in the future and I am not looking forward to it. Also, Yun, still my hero, and will forever be my hero.

As for the last two chapters, they provided all the romantic developments and comedic relief that I very much needed after such a rough story arc. Yona confiding in the dragons over her current predicament with Hak was so cute, they’re so patient and sweet with her and you know they just want her to be happy. The dragons reactions to that final scene never ceases to amuse me. Also, Hak feeding Shin-ah is the cutest thing ever.

"I'm exhausted and done for today! Do you get it now?!"

BAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Could not help but laugh SO much in that final chapter! It was like a drama or soap opera unfolding with all the expressions of the Dragons! LOL! I get it though Hak, I get it. Hahahahaha!

*good happy sigh*

I'm sure it could be argued that this whole volume was SO much more then just the Hak and Yona ship vibes, but I was so caught off guard by how MUCH we got that I was overwhelmed the first time I read it and had to go back and read it! LOL! We get so few romantic moments that I've just prepared myself to get so few of them, but this volume definitely blew me away in that regard! I even got so excited about it that I forgot the rest of the volume for a moment! Ha! (No one throw tomatoes at me! *hides*)

While that was one of the best parts of this volume, I LOVED that sketch of Mizari and Zeno! I don't think there has been another character that has admired and looked up to Zeno as much as Mizari and was totally blindsided how his story made me very emotional. Zeno is so compassionate and thoughtful and while their friendship was so short, it was deeply impactful.

If Su-won hasn't officially been put in a tight spot!! I think in a way it just shows (and I think something he thought in volume 24?) that how he took the throne was not needed. (Hmm trying to think of how to word this.) He went through all this these things in killing Yona's father and then acting as if he would kill Yona just to get the crown, but it sort of backfired hasn't it? Don't get me wrong! He's done some great things for Kohka, no doubt! But Yona has very much surprised me in how her *honorable* actions have spoken far louder then Su-won's has. Never imagined that people would openly call her Princess of Kohka and how other nations would deeply respect her. It's actually really made reconsider who should be on the throne. I don't even know what direction this series is going to take now.

Speaking of, I'm really going to miss our Xing friends! They have been so wonderful and enjoyed(?) the battle that took place and seeing them fight *together* instead of against one another. I hope the one person gets what they deserved after everything they did though…

Also, unrelated but did anyone fangirl over Sinha and his eyes?! EEEEEKKKKK!! I won't go into detail because spoilers but my heart was absolutely giddy!!!

A great and emotional volume! Wishing I could read volume 27 tonight! LOL!

This volume brings things two steps closer to the the two outcomes I eventually want from this series: happiness for Yona and Hak and for Su-won to truly understand what it is that he voluntarily sacrificed for his ambitions.

“Perhaps there are some things, many things we should have learned more about sooner.”

What a perfect conclusion for this more than heart-attack-inducing arc.

There is nothing else I can say other than the fact that I am incredibly satisfied with how things turned out in the end. Yes, my heart broke a little more, and for people I never thought originally that I would feel anything more than contempt towards, but even that felt appropriate and very fitting.

After the rain there truly comes the sunshine, and this volume is the exemplification of that. Which I'm grateful for.

It seems that the habit of ending the volumes in incredibly tense and jaw-dropping moments will not be broken any time soon, though, as this was exactly that... and it was one that I thought wouldn't happen for a very long, long time yet.

Even though in general this was the perfect calm after the storm, the rest that was so needed, the little pieces that are being set up, and put in motion, are too ominous and dark for my liking.

Warnings: graphic violence, physical trauma

With High Priest Gobi finding out about the presence of the Four Dragons at the camp, he tries to take them into custody to present as bargaining leverage to Soo Won; he also attempts to kill Kouren to make Tao a puppet Queen. Kouren has to fight her way out of there, with the help of Algira, Yotaka and Mizari, and Hak and Yona too. Gobi’s attempts to curry favour with Soo Won go to waste because Soo Won expresses disinterest in the matter of the Dragons (Gobi’s face was priceless!) and instead he and Kouren and Tao have negotiations.

Yona’s presence among the negotiations, having come from Xing’s side definitely makes some waves. Soo Won’s advisor, especially, finds her a threat, with so many allies ready to protect her, and now even Xing being indebted to her. While the Xing arc is resolved, the political tensions of Kouka will continue, now that Yona has unwittingly shown her political power.

On the romance side, Yona and Hak are yet to have a talk about Yona kissing him, but it gets derailed when she misunderstands his relationship with Ayame. It was predictable but it was still hilarious to see her attempts to hide from him, and also worry that she is keeping him from his life. During this mess, however, the Four Dragons and Yoon all give Yona advice, and I was laughing so much when they see the final result between the two of them!

Side note, I liked the Wind Tribe being held as an example of a community that is loving and peaceful, both for Kouka and Xing, and also how they manage their loyalties. Tae Woo deferring to Hak’s directions even though he is the general of the tribe was expected since the latter is like a big brother to them; I still liked how there is no drama there. I would like to see him grow into his position though, since Hak doesn’t seem interested in returning to it.

HAK FINALLY SPELT IT OUT FOR YONA AND TOLD HER HE LOVES HER!!! I totally teared up at the end.... just me? Also I really appreciate that Hak didn’t just leave like Yona told him, because HE WOULD NEVER LEAVE YONA. Also, I just wanna say how much I love Yun and how he’s such a protective mother to everyone it’s so heartwarming. Wow, each volume seems to become my new favorite. Can’t wait for the next one!

Princess Yona is the pampered daughter of her kingdom's king. Isolated and doted on she has two childhood friends, Hak, a general who also protects her and her cousin, Suwon who helped her mourn her mother's passing and who she is crushing on big time. On her 16th birthday her entire world implodes to to a crippling betrayal... She must decide if she will fall in line or rise up and take back her kingdom.

The kingdom of Xing storyline ends with a slap in the face for priest Gobi. Loved it! We aren’t surprised that Yona has managed to do a king’s worth of help to her country and their neighbor. And I loved how Xing’s two princesses also showed their backbone in unexpected ways.

The art is really stellar, especially in small moments with the Xing characters. Look for those moments because they are why Yona is such a great manga. These kinds of moments make the entire world feel real.

The highlight of the volume though is between Yona and Hak with the dragons and Yun looking on. Of course, it starts with misunderstanding and our clueless princess running around like a chicken. It’ll melt your heart though, especially the last page. You go Hak!!

Yona of the Dawn has a slow burn romance, dragons, politics and battle. Yes, it has it all, be sure to pick up a volume so you don’t miss out on an excellent manga series.

This is definitely my favorite shojo fantasy series ever. The last chapter in this volume was a nice and humorous reprieve for the serious arc that just ended too.
