I really liked this book. The selection of stories covered in this book were really good. Some were high profile, while others not as much. I especially liked reading the ones I had not heard of before. I found that each one was written short and to the point, but seemed to covered the facts. They were well researched and written. The book was easy to read, and very hard to put down. I read it rather quickly. I can't wait for the next one.

Not a bad read. Full of very interesting stories, told without frills. The author needs to work on his punctuation, and he keeps changing dates and the spelling of people's names in the middle of nowhere, it overall the chapters were well written. Many of these stories were totally new to me.

Unputdownable

The stories of these killers were very compelling. I really couldn't put down the book once I started to read it. It's a morbid curiosity I guess to want to read about such truly horrifying crimes. I only deducted a star because there are several typos that were distracting and made some parts a little confusing. Otherwise this is a good true crime book for people who enjoy reading about true crimes and I will be looking for more from this author in the future. I must also note that I actually preferred the final story because it gave much more details and information than the short stories, but since I'd only ever heard of one of the short stories due to it happening locally, I was intrigued enough to look up further information on the others so that was not such a bad thing after all.

I gave it two stars because it captured the gist of the crimes and events. However, I would have given it more if these stories were not practically word for word in Wikipedia. I don't know which came first, but there wasn't too much more or new information I could have gotten from this book than I already had. The only other difference is the author's attempt to wax philosophical at the end of each story. I have to also remark how I disagree with his belief that people are not born evil. Some are. Denying it is not going to change that. I also came across a few minor errors (a date, a misspelling) but it's better than most of these small published texts. I read it for free. I'm glad I didn't pay for it. I would not put a price tag greater than $0.99 for this or its sequels, which I'm predicting will be much of the same as this.

True Crime Vol 1 is a collection of 12 true crimes murder cases. It's a short read because they stick to just the facts with not too much back story and summarize the events. Each crime is a couple of pages long. Now, if you are like me and are more of an Ann Rule crime reader you will be left wanting more. On the other hand the quick read and sticking to just the basic facts starts to draw a picture of criminals and what motivates them without the authors really having to spell it out which they do a little. It's almost like reading a collection of newspaper articles. I'm knocking the authors and saying they just copied a bunch of newspaper articles, I think they did their research, it's just as I stated the facts. If this is you thing it's a great read. One thing I will note, I bought vols 1 & 2. There are many more, so if you like this you have lots to read.

Very good read

This is my very first book I've read from Mr. Becker, but I tell you I am pleasantly surprised. Not only with his amazing writing ability and his talent of bringing you into the story and feeling like you are there or know someone! But I also found this author very engaging with his writing! But to me the best part of it all is most of these stories I heard of! I don't know but I am so tired of reading about the same stories over and over! But here in this book Mr. Becker has found new murders to write about! And that to me was the best!!!
But as I've said his writing is a close second! I will def be looking for more from this author and you won't be disappointed with this book! Hope you enjoy as much as I did!

I definitely watch a lot of true crime documentaries. This my first time reading a true crime novel. I recognized several of the criminals/murderers mentioned due to shows (Snapped and Dateline). As the author stated in the conclusion, these crimes can be stopped if children can get help in dysfunctional homes or if people can get proper mental health help. Some people are stronger than others. It is the weaker that fall victim, develop personality disorders, and seek to hurt people because they are hurt.

Truly terrifying

The cases covered in this book are truly terrifying. It makes a person shake his head and wonder how a human mind can become so twisted and distorted.

At the end of each chapter, Mr. Becker adds a "moral of the story" comment. This is good late night reading for ghoulish true crime fans.

Captavating

I started reading about real crimes by real killers and I couldn't stop reading . At the end of the twelve killers , I still couldn't allow myself to put this book down . I was astonished to find there was a bonus book that also piqued my interest therefore I had to start the second volume right away.

Boring stories

Not very terrifying or interesting, just a recitation of facts. Disagree with authors opinion that babies are not born evil. There are a few Ted Bundy and Kenneth McDuff characters out there who are born evil

This seems to be a compilation of newspaper accounts of gruesome murders. There is not a lot of depth or insight into the crimes. There are many glaring errors in grammar and typographical errors, which makes it a bit difficult to read.
