A sweet book of finding oneself after being betrayed by an infidel husband. The story

My first book by author Barbara Quinn, I quite liked the way the story was written. It was formulaic with a low self-esteem wife who fleed the scene and went to a different town, rented a house, found a sexy neighbor, friends rallied around, husband was a boor, an she found her life back. But weaving the songs of Bruce Springsteen gave it a different meaning.

I liked how the lyrics of the songs heard by the main character Sofia were so befitting the things she was going through. Being nearly 50, I could see how she difficult it was for her to start a new life. But hope and the good times with her best friends made me look at my life in a different light.

Overall, a sweet story which intertwined the two main themes of living life in every moment and never too late to start life.

Even though I'm a Springsteen fan I found myself trying to remember the songs.
I found this book really easy to read, I felt for Sofia, who clearly continued to struggle with the death of her son, many years before; then to come home to find her husband sharing their bed with another woman.
Like a lot of scorned women Sofia had a lack of self esteem and hoped that moving away would help.
By starting a new life away from old memories Sofia hoped that her life could move forward.
My first book with this author and it won't be the last.

This was a surprisingly deep beach read about a woman who's been through hard times and loss getting the chance to forge a new beginning and rediscover her identity in mid-life. Each chapter is a Bruce Springsteen song, and the book takes place in Bradley Beach. Duh, I cried. Major vibes 🥰

In The Summer Springsteen’s Songs Saved Me, Quinn offers her readers an overall charming and optimistic take on life’s sharp corners, specifically the too-common human heartbreak involved in catching one’s husband cheating. On an already searing day, the birthday of her dead son, Sofia comes home to find her husband in bed with his personal trainer. After the encounter, she sets up housekeeping in Bradley Beach, a charming salt-spray hamlet on the Jersey Shore. The little boardwalk-bound village seems to have a history of hosting Mr. Springsteen, and Quinn uses The Boss’s discography as the binder for Sofia’s stories and adventures as the middle-aged woman takes control of her life, begins a new chapter of friends and personal growth, and finds love with a younger man who is a single father and her new neighbor.

While a little predictable and perhaps a bit cliché in places (the beef-jerky chomping, rude, trial-attorney ex gets busted in the end for some sort of insider trading, and the spunky, artistic ladies of the story pretty much end up happily ever after), the book moves along at a nice clip, jerks at the heartstrings with its animal-advocacy message, provides a few fun and unique glimpses of shore and surf culture, and offers a strong sense of place that makes the reader want to rent a shore-side cottage for a month. Sofia draws the reader in with her introspection about the two-sidedness of her marriage’s demise, an introspection that staves off oversimplification and adds texture and realism to the book. The Springsteen hook will draw in fans of musical Americana, and the book has sweet, common-sense undercurrents about starting over (it’s never too late) and youth and beauty (it’s all about how you feel and see yourself).

The novel provides a pleasing, sweet, human read that leaves its audience content and very likely looking forward to another Quinn romp.

A really great story - easy to read and set in an area of the world I’d love to visit.
I’m a huge Springsteen fan and this story about loss, healing, friendships and the power of music cements my idea that music by The Boss is the best

The Summer Springsteen's Songs Saved Me is a great read, satisfying on many levels. First, as an engrossing tale full of recognizably human characters, Barbara Quinn transports us along with her protagonist, Sofia, from the home that she shared with her soon to be ex-husband to the imagined protections of the resort town of Bradley Beach, a locale from which we will not venture. This setting, with its small town atmosphere and folks, and at times calming and at others threatening surf, along with the lyrics of Springsteen's songs, are as integral to the narrative as the plot and characters that we meet in its pages.

The basic plot, although one that we at first are sure that we know - an older woman, facing the loss of love and the encountering of past sorrows, wants a new start - turns original in the hands of the author. Though full of demons, Sofia's journey is warm, optimistic and often fun. An appealing cast of characters, the anticipation of Sofia's redemption in the arms of a worthy lover, the surprising plot twists, and Quinn's deft and convincing dialogue, propel one to turn page after page to learn what next happens to Sofia; every step along the way narrated by Springsteen's lyrics.

Sofia is the heroine of the work and the reader is always looking out for her, fearing the obstacles and dangers that lie ahead, but always satisfied with her response. Although she has both real and imagined weaknesses, which have done much to shape her past, she shows courage, resilience and grit in trying to find a better place in her new world of Bradly Beach. It is not that Sofia is perfect, but she is someone for whom we can root wholeheartedly.

This is a small but beautifully told story, and one that makes you look at your own life through the lens of Sofia's doubts and insecurities, and her realization that the hurts and disappointments of the past are partially of her own doing and thus she holds in her own hands the making of the future that she wants.

This is a book to be read (preferably on a beach with all of Springsteen's songs at your finger-tips) and Barbara Quinn is an author to be followed.

The Summer Springsteen's Songs Saved Me: A Warm and Inspiring Novel by Barbara Quinn is a heart warming story of finding yourself and healing. This is my first story by this author and I enjoyed it and can't wait to read more of her books. Her writing style is such that it just pulled me in right from the beginning. I enjoyed her attention to details, they just made me feel like I was right there in the story with them. Her characters are connectable, lovable and true to life. They will take you on a roller coaster ride of various emotions from laughter to compassion. This is an easy flowing story that will pull at your heart strings and just warm your soul. This is the story of Sofia. Sofia owns half of a decorating business with her best friend and today is not having a very good day. She had to return home this morning for something she forgot to hearing sounds coming from her bedroom. What she finds will change her life in an instant, her husband cheating. She gets some revenge then vows to never return. Now she just needs to start over so she cranks her Bruce Springsteen and heads to find a place to live. The place she happens to find has a sexy neighbor that shares her love of Bruce Springsteen. Life starts throwing things at her plus she realizes that she must find healing from the past before she can have a future. Sofia has to be a strong woman in order to put up with what she has from life. I loved watching her grow throughout the story. This story isn't necessarily about two people finding love as it is being broken and learning to put yourself back together. You will just have to read this book to see what I mean by that. I enjoyed the secondary characters as well. You will either love them or hate them but either way they make up this story for what it is. I highly recommend this story as I know you will want to see the roller coaster of life struggles Sofia goes through.

Sofia Catherwood has just found her husband in bed with his young personal trainer, she is so angry she packs a few things and heads out the door to a place that she hopes will help her heal these wounds. And so begins The Summer Springsteen Songs Saved Me by Barbara Quinn.
Sofia escapes to the Jersey Shore where she hopes the saltwater will cure her as her grandpa always claimed. In her endeavor to change her life and make things better she runs into people who will help shape the new direction in which she wants to head in her new life. From Amy, her business partner and best friend, to Terri the real estate agent to Walt and Ellie her eccentric neighbors. Each person plays a role in Sofia’s rebirth. She learns some very important lessons from the people in her life, but the most help she gets are from the lyrics of her favorite Springsteen songs. After years of taking care of an ungrateful spouse will Sofia be able to find who she really is?
I wasn’t sure when I started this book whether I would like it or not, as I am not a fan of Springsteen I couldn’t see how the author would use his songs as a basis for a book. Turns out that I did enjoy this book and I may have even garnered a little more respect for the boss. I liked the way the songs amplified what was going on with Sofia’s life. I also was drawn to the way all the characters connected to the words/music of Springsteen, it gave the sense of community and I’ll be darned if I don’t want to go to Asbury Park and see what it is all about. There were many things that I liked about this book but I have to say that my all around favorite was Sofia’s visit to “Yappy Hour” and her consequent meeting with Phoebe. That was the best!!!
I’ll conclude with saying that I am glad I chose to read this story and I will happily look for more of this author’s writing. Thank you, Ms. Quinn, for the pleasurable hours of entertainment, and the newfound respect of the boss’s music.

The Summer Springsteen's Songs Saved Me by Barbara Quinn starts with a bang then gently unfolds from there. Sofia is married to Jerome, a controlling arrogant type. When she walks in on him with his personal trainer, she decides to set up a new life for herself near the beach. Listening to Bruce Springsteen has always been her escape and now it is a real refuge from the changes in her life.
The main character Sofia is well written and we feel empathy with her and warmth towards her from early on in the book. Her best friend Amy is a good addition to the book too and the whacky real estate agent Terri keeps the reader amused. The introduction of a potential new love interest in neighbour Sammy was lovely as we don’t often see stories of older ladies meeting someone new. At first Sofia had a lack of self-confidence but knew she had to put her husband and previous life behind her if she was going to be happy and I really liked that about her. Although I have to confess I don’t know many of Bruce Springsteen’s songs I did get some of the references to E street band and other things. This would really appeal to someone who is a fan. What I did love however was the fact that Sofia uses music she loves to help in difficult situations in her life as I could really identify with that.
The backstory of her losing her son was simmering away in the background through the story but it was used not as a reason to pity Sofia, but more as a reason to appreciate how she has healed and how her courageous journey continues. I really enjoyed this story. A mix of music, romance, grumpy ex-husbands and loyal best friends. Perfect for a cold winter night.

“You can do this, Sofia. You know you can.”

This really was such an uplifting quick little read. I would say that is was more of a book about a woman finding who she was and how to love who she was before she could truly ever love anyone else again, than an actual romance novel. But it does throw a little of that in there as well which was sweet too, especially considering the characterization of Sofia, the main character.
This is the journey of Sofia Catherwood. She is having a really bad day one morning when it gets really worse once she finds her husband cheating on her in their bed. I would have to say her reaction was well deserved and also very comical to read. I myself would have done the same if not worse lol. This is the catalyst that leads her to the small New Jersey town Bradley Beach. After rightly setting things straight with her feelings and her cheating husband she throws her stuff in her car and high tails it to a new life. One of adventure, self-discovery, and music. Sof finds herself relating her feelings throughout the book with the songs of The Boss, or Bruce Springsteen. I myself find music very therapeutical and turn to it for a way to express my feelings when I am not one to find the right words so I connected with her here really well and very much so enjoyed that aspect of the book.
“I love how Bruce understands things like anguish and the uncertainty of life. He knows bad times lurk around every corner ready to lay anyone low.”
I look forward to reading more in the future from Barbara Quinn, as I a sure you will once you take this journey with Sofia.

While I’m not a huge Springsteen fan, I’m a huge fan of this novel. From the get go, the reader is projected into a horrific situation that immediately clings in all the painful places. It’s enough to set anyone off. Yet there are layers to the pain Sofia feels, and we begin to discover a little bit at a time where she’s coming from, and why she still feels an attachment to her husband, even with the way he treats her. So much of it stems from past tragedies, and Barbara Quinn showed us that in such an eloquent way.

Sofia is a beautifully flawed character. In her moments of vulnerable honesty are moments where I questioned how I would have handled a similar situation. It’s a constant three steps forward, two steps back- even after she thinks she’s taken the reigns of her life. I felt the same disgust she feels when she tries to say goodbye to her husband, but I also felt the love, too, when she remembers what it was like when there were happier times. More layers. More depth to really paint a realistic look at what can happen when a marriage begins to crumble.

In her newfound friendships and in the neighbor next door, we begin to see growth and change. While Springsteen’s words of wisdom are a backdrop, filling Sofia with inspiration and strength at various times, essentially it’s the allowance of letting others in that makes all the difference. Those steps aren’t easy, either, particularly with the neighbor. I wanted to see where this potential relationship would or could go, but as with most everything for Sofia, it’s a work in progress, one she’s not even sure she wants to dive into.

There’s fear in starting over, in leaving the past behind. In many respects, Sofia showcases that the fear is a normal reaction to change. I couldn’t help but feel inspired by her story. I was also attracted to the premise of an older woman who is starting her life over, considering so many stories of earth-shattering events focus on the younger crowd. I could better relate and identify with that struggle. This was a deep story of forgiveness, love, and friendship, three scenarios worthy of five stars!

Title: The Summer Springsteen’s Songs Saved Me
Author: Barbara QUinn

The Summer Springsteen’s Songs saved me was a good 4 star read.

You get pulled right in from the beginning when Sofia catches her husband in bed with another woman. She has had enough and ends up renting a place on the beach. She ends up meeting her neighbors one is young and hot and the other one is a married couple who are interesting.
She had a great support system from her best friend. Will she be able to move forward and get a HEA?

It was great reading Sofia’s story, she encountered some challenges and struggles. She was determined to get through everything in one piece and if she finds love along the way then that will be great also.

I really liked the references and discussion of Springsteen songs, they fit the story perfectly.
There are some twists and turns, I was on a rollercoaster of emotions. I’m not sure I would have cared for my cheating spouse like Sofia did. That is a strong kind hearted woman to do that.
I really enjoyed the secondary characters they added a great element to the story.

Barbara Quinn does a great job with her writing, she pulls you right in. The song references brought back a lot of memories from my youth. If your looking for a fun read with lots of Springsteen references this is the book for you.

The Summer Springsteen's Songs Saved Me by Barbara Quinn 5 Stars

This book contains the trifecta! Love, loss, and self renewal. The characters in this book are so true to life and easy to relate to. This is my first Barbara Quinn book, but it won't be my last! Her words bring so many emotions out! I laughed, cried, and became angry along with Sofia. I absolutely loved the descriptive ways her thoughts came to life. Barbara Quinn has a way with being very detailed without using too many ornate words you have to skim over. She adds the perfect amount of detail in order to see the whole picture. I loved the way she describes Sofia's dark place and the way she comes out of it. Her thoughts are so real and have so much feeling behind them. I really enjoyed reading about her self discovery and coming out of the dark place she was at into a place where she can heal and move on. The way Sofia uses Springsteen songs as a reflection of her current state of mind is brilliant! Her character can read the words beyond the lyrics.
I absolutely loved this book and look forward to reading more by this author. Have a box of tissues handy. I found myself getting lost in this book and not wanting to put it down. This is a definite must read book for those who enjoy romance and self renewal. I highly recommend this book!

The Summer Springsteen's Songs Saved Me: A Warm and Inspiring Novel by Barbara Quinn is a fun, inspiring and unique take on an age old tale.
Sophia never expected to come home and find her husband cheating on her. Unfortunately that is exactly what she finds after an already stressful day. So like any well self-respecting woman, she burns his clothes and scratches a colorful word into his Porsche. Once that is done she hops into her car, turns up Bruce and decides to drive and never look back. Eventually she lands in the resort town of Bradley Beach, NJ where she begins to heal with the help of friends both old and new and someone that just might actually be worthy of her.
This was an amazing book. I loved that every important moment was highlighted by a Springsteen song. I found it amazing that the author writes characters that are so genuine that you can honestly feel the emotions that are radiating off the page. The plot, while familiar, was told with enough twists and turns to keep me turning page after page to see what would happen to Sophia next. I also love that there is real character growth for Sofia. We get to see that she is just as flawed as we are and through this we get the chance to see that everyone is capable of growth and change for the better. Definitely giving this novel a five star rating for its originality and humor.

The Summer Springsteen's Songs Saved Me: A Warm and Inspiring Novel by Barbara Quinn

4 Stars

This book grabbed my first emotion of anger starting on page 1, Sofia finding her husband of 26 years with his personal trainer was all that was needed for her to storm out, scratch a not so nice name on his new porsche and ride off to the sounds of the Boss.

I really enjoyed this book, it is my first by this author and will definitely not be my last. Sofia starting a new life, in a new place, a place on the beach with some eccentric neighbors on one side and a sexy one on the other. I loved the connections in this story to the songs of Bruce Springsteen, I grew up listening to many of them and now they have even more meaning after reading this book. I loved all the supporting characters in this book, especially Amy! I experienced many different emotions while reading this and i couldn't help thinking about my own life in some places. Watching Sofia start over later in life than most would ever dream of was written beautifully and felt so real!

I highly recommend this story, it had a smooth flow and the style was spot on. I was able to read it in one sitting and absolutely can't wait to see what else is available by this author.

The Summer Springsteen’s Songs Saved Me
By Barbara Quinn
5 stars

I loved this story! Just absolutely loved it! When I first read the title I was a little unsure but the blurb grabbed my attention and I am so glad I gave this book a chance. I haven’t read anything by this author before so I was really looking forward to reading something by someone new and she didn’t disappoint at all.
Although what happens to Sofia in this story hasn’t happened to me personally I know that I would probably do some of the same things as she did, so whilst I was laughing at what she did to the car, his clothes etc. I was hurting inside for her. The author has written this book in such a way where you honestly feel like you are on this journey of healing and finding yourself with Sofia, I like to think if I was in her position then I would be as strong as she is.
One of the many things I loved about this book was the engaging writing style the author used, my interested was kept from the beginning to the end and I loved the setting and music references throughout – it made for a nice unique read.
A really good 5 star read that I highly recommend.

The Summer Springsteen's Songs Saved Me by Barbara Quinn is a fantastic read! This my first book by this author and I was not disappointed. The book has you hooked by the end of the first paragraph. This a book you find hard to put down! You attach to the main character straight away and feel her journey as you walk through it with her.

So the unthinkable happens, you come home to your loving husband to find him giving his love to someone else! Sofia reacts like anyone would in this situation, she takes their clothes throws them outside and then gives her husband's pride and joy car some special attention!! Then she packs some things gets in her car to start a fresh, with the help of Springsteen! Sofia heads to a place her grandad used to tell her the water could cure anything. She is determined to turn her life around and make something for herself.

I really attached to this book, as I have been in a very similar situation and music is what also saved me. I love how this book puts across the power of music and the positive effect it can have on a person's life. It is a beautiful book and would highly recommend it.

For the record: I know Bruce Springsteen is a great artist and has some amazing songs. And I know the most famous ones. But to say I’m a big fan and know all his songs by heart, I would be lying.

So initially I was a bit hesitating to give this book a chance, as my fear was that his songs would be a bigger part of the story. But afterwards I am happy I gave it a shot!

Sofia decides to leave her husband after on the worst day of the year she finds him in bed with another woman. She moves out of the house and find a charming house to rent. And slowly she gets over the thought of failing at her marriage and pick up the pieces of her life and give her greatest grief a place in her heart and mind.

For me, this story shows the underestimated power of music. For most of the time music is just a passing of time, enjoying a good beat, great lyrics.
But the right song played at the right moment, can help you put your mind at ease and it helps to put your pain away.

Sofia is a strong woman, but despite her independence, she holds on to the past until enough is enough.
After leaving her husband, she stands up for herself and thanks to Springsteen’s songs at the right moment, she has the opportunity to process everything she faced.
She can rely on old friends, but thanks to her choices and her love for Springsteen, she makes new friends.
And let’s not forget Sammy, who really intrigues her, but is Sofia already ready to really move on with her life? And what about the age difference?

I really enjoyed this book as it has a slowly pace, giving all the characters time to face their demons. But also everybody has time to grow and find their place in the world.
And never ever underestimate  the power that music can give!

This was an uplifting fun book to read about a woman who finally decides to live her life the way she wants to and find happiness in her future. You'll laugh and you might even shed a few tears while you read about Sofia and her friends.

After 40-something Sofia returns home early and finds her husband in bed with another woman, she decides that its time to end her unhappy marriage. She moves to a small rental house at the beach in NJ and tries to put her life back together. With the help of her best friend, her new friend from the real estate office and the sexy guy next door, she works really hard to pull away from her old life and to find happiness. Will she be able to let go of her past and find joy in her future?

This is a great book and if you are a Springsteen fan, it's even more fun. Every chapter is based around one of his songs and there's lot of BRUCE references in the book.

Thanks to the publisher for a copy of this book to read and review. All opinions are my own.

The Summer Springsteen’s Songs Saved Me: A Warm and Inspirational Novel by Barbara Quinn was a great read full of hope and renewal. This story follows along several paths, Sofia who is about to lose the life she knows with her husband; and that of the author portrayed as an elderly woman looking back on her life to the tunes of her summer’s during a different time. I found this story to be so uplifting, showing just how great music can make you feel, and how music can be the defining memory of a time that even just the melody can take you back. Not only am I a Springsteen fan, but having grown up listening to his music I have many memories, like the author and her characters, that center around his music. Quinn has an ability to pull her readers in from the first page, and keeping you intrigued until the last sentence. I couldn’t put this book down even if I had tried. Quinn is a new to me author, and I am so glad that I tried this book out. If you need a good uplifting book, filled with memories and music than this is the book for you get ahold of.

A brilliant read about using music to help through difficult times. Sofia returns home one day to discover her husband Jerome has been having an affair. She packs up her things and leaves for a different town. Finding the perfect new house by the seaside, she tries to recover from Jerome and her own issues of anxiety with music. Will she be able to recover and find happiness again?
A brilliant read. Well developed plot. I loved the use of music throughout the novel, and how lyrics emphasise your feelings. which was brilliantly written. I also liked the song titles becoming title chapters which was a nice touch. The depiction of anxiety for Sofia was perfectly written and extremely relatable. I also adored the visual detail of the house and sea and the seagulls which was excellently written. The only issue I would raise is that Sofia seemed a little melodramatic whilst confronting Jerome. Terri was funny and a good supporting character. Overall, a brilliant read and I would give it five stars.

The Summer Springsteen’s Songs Saved Me by Barbara Quinn
Four Stars

The Summer Springsteen’s Songs Saved Me: A Warm and Inspiring Novel by Barbara Qiunn is a great contemporary romance. Thisia the first book I have read by Ms. Quinn, but definitely won’t be the last. I love her easy flowing writing style and the quirky dialog in amazing. The Springsteen Songs interspersed throughout bring back great memories. Sofia walks in on her husband having an affair, which is the final straw for their marriage. She is just about to turn fifty and starting her life over, with good friends, sea salt smell of the jersey shore and of course, Springsteen’s songs. This book flowed well and captured my attention from the very first page. It had me laughing and crying, full of simpathy and mad as all get out. It also made me think about life and hanging on to bad things that should be let go of. I highly recommend this book for those looking for a good romance, especially if they ar3 Springsteen fans.

The Summer Springsteen's Songs Saved Me: A Warm and Inspiring Novel, by Barbara Quinn is
exactly as the book’s title describes, warm and inspiring. Sofia finds herself on the wrong end of
her husband’s affair, (I mean, is there really a right end of an affair) and with a fantastic display
of temper and vengeance in the form a keyed car and burning clothes, she heads to a
beachtown in New Jersey. As an older woman, separating from her terrible husband, and trying
to find her sense of right and purpose, she now sets to rebuilding her life. With quirky, lovable
neighbors, and the right Bruce Springsteen song, she finds herself well on her way to making
herself whole again. What is better soul healing that the beach, sunsets, and Bruce
Springsteen? This chick lit book is a 4 out of 5 stars for me and I would love to read more from
Ms. Quinn. Her characters and beautifully written and have just enough sass and pizzaz to
keep you laughing and reading on.

I gave this book 5 stars!!! The Summer Springsteen’s Songs Saved Me by Barbara Quinn is my first ever book by the author and I am ready for more. She completely wowed me with this book!
I loved her way of writing and the story she gave her main character, Sofia, a fifty-something woman who finds her husband having an affair in what we would already consider a failing marriage. Sofia heads to the beach to get some sun and to allow the salt water to wash away the dirt of her past and present and wouldn’t be complete if she didn’t try to find herself again along the way. The authors use of Bruce Springsteen is a great touch since hes made music that gives just the right song for each moment Sofia encounters along the way.

I extremely recommend this book. It really touched me because I’ve been in a situation like this before and I could relate to so many of the characters emotions and reactions. I loved loved loved it! Read in one day and plan to read again because it was THAT good!

The Summer Springsteen Songs Saved Me
A Warm and Inspiring Novel
By Barbara Quinn
☆☆☆☆☆
Full length novel for the Springsteen Fan. Story of finding yourself and learning to carry on.

Sophia comes home early to find her husband cheating on her, in her bed. Life changes and she decides to leave. Right after she leaves her mark on his on his car. She turns on the good old Springsteen, her favorite music. And drives off, onto another adventure. But we all know how that goes. She has many things to work out, and to find herself.

Barbara Quinn has written this story with the healing music. Her characters use the music as an escape and to overcome challenges. Great story. Love how her characters break down the words of the songs and gives you their impression of what is being said. I think we all do that as well. Well I know I do. Story holds your interest, makes you laugh and even cry a little. Some may enjoy listening to Springsteen while reading this story.

Barbara Quinn’s The Summer Springsteen’s Song’s Saved Me is a funny, atmospheric exploration of a mature woman’s struggle to overcome loss, deal with the havoc life presents to all of us and find the hope and resolve to seek something better. You can smell the salt air, feel the creak of the boardwalk and the crunch of the sand of the Jersey Shore while some of Springsteen's songs waft in the background. Sofia’s friends, one new, one longstanding, have their own struggles and the trio support each other as they move forward together. Sofia’s dog, Phoebe, has her own special personality that adds humor throughout Sofia’s journey.

Ultimately Springsteen’s Songs is about everyone’s need to connect with another human being in a meaningful way that is handled with humor and a strong sense of place and melody.

I give 5 stars to The Summer Springsteen songs saved me (A warm and inspiring novel)  written by Barbara Quinn

This was a first for me from this lady and it was a great read, touches base on a difficult time most women end up going through and really identified on the emotional side and healing side with the help and support of best friends.

Only ever heard a few Springsteen song as I'm from Great Britain, I youtubed some songs throughout my read and really felt what the author was expressing for Sofia.

So after forgetting her phone she returns home to find her husband's head in between some other younger womens legs, sofia leaves but not before leaving here mark and showing just how upset she really is, she sets out on a journey to rebuild her life away from all she knows. With the help of new and old friends and also Springsteen can she rebuild her life?

This story is filled with Bruce Springsteen references. Songs, his band, the first bar he played in. These facts fill the main character’s life with meaning and reflection. Sofia, our main character, has been dealt a crappy hand in life and depression tries to take her away from it all. However, The Boss is there is keep her grounded. Sofia learns to trust herself and that talking about the bad will help her with the good. She learns that while change is hard it can also bring something good.

I liked the references to Springsteen and his songs. I liked the easy flow of this story. The characters are interesting enough to wonder if Quinn will write about them as well. I feel the strong women in this story are strong for a reason! I would be interested in reading more from Quinn.

I recommend this story and look forward to seeing what else Barbara Quinn as to write about.

I'm very privileged because I am actually the editor of this novel. Barbara Quinn has written a warm and engaging story and it's hard not to have a soft spot for this one. Our heroine, forty-something Sofia, is real and flawed and is plain sick of being one of life's victims, and this story follows her journey from when she finally decides to abandon the old Sofia and start again. We follow her ups and downs and see her battling with an always-looming darkness and her weaknesses, her struggle to believe in herself and find the confidence to accept everything that's happened so she can move forward. It's a wonderful book, with smooth, flowing writing that I easily polished off in one sitting. I highly recommend this.
