Surprisingly helpful. I wouldn't recommend to everyone as you need some discernment, and it's a bit out of date, but I currently plan to keep it around for a bit. More like 3.5 stars for me

I probably should have known it would be a bit antiquated, despite the fact that true hospitality never goes out of style. But I probably would have gotten more out of it had I been a middle-aged pastor's wife in the early 90s.

The first bit of the book actually had good advice, but after a while I started to realize that as a single woman, the majority of this book wasn't for me and where I currently am in life. And then the one chapter devoted to hospitality for the single ladies was actually more "Don't forget, sad sack single ladies can be great hostesses too!"

Focusing on hospitality (versus entertaining), the author presents both the biblical principles and also many practical examples, while being particularly sensitive to those who may not have money to spend. She describes how to make one's space more welcoming to family and friends even without spending money.

Ugh, I wanted so bad to finish this book, but it made me so frustrated I ended up throwing it across the room, now its got a bend cover. Maybe God will give me the patience to finish it some day, where ever it is.
