Fluttershy Balances the Scales is the last book in Hasbro's Beyond Equestria series. It's also painfully obvious that at the point of this book's conception, Hasbro had already given up on the movie both financially and creatively. Which is a shame because Capper clearly deserved his sequel book. Or I definitely would have enjoyed some more Fizzlepop Berry Twist. Oh what could have been. At least there's always the comics. Still, the clearly rushed final installment with Fluttershy and Skystar is a cute, incredibly fast read. You could read it to your child while they're playing with their sea pony figures.

The story opens with Twilight and the gang mid-effort to show Tempest all the joys of Canterlot. Their picnic is interrupted by a message from Skystar who is super bored since the defeat of the Storm King. Tempest and Twilight both politely decline the invitation since they both did Queen Novo dirty the last time they were down under the sea. So... out of the remaining ponies, Fluttershy is the only one to take her up on the invitation. I guess Rainbow Dash and Pinkie Pie already had their books and Rarity, Applejack and Twilight are getting shafted,

Leaving the rest of her friends in Canterlot, Fluttershy goes back to Seaquestria. Where the seaponies are all on edge and rumors abound about a deadly Sand Dragon. When one of the seapony guards goes missing, Fluttershy and Skystar join the rescue mission. Which conveniently involves them following clues from undersea creatures. Whew. Good thing Fluttershy was the only one who decided to go on this adventure.

This is definitely the shortest of the Beyond Equestria books. About forty pages were dedicated to previewing other books from the series. The upside to the short length is that it did not suffer from the disjointed plot structure of Rainbow Dash Rights the Ship. Overall, it's an adorable short read, and there are far worse ways to spend your time.

This book follows after the movie and Fluttershy gets to visit her friend Skystar beneath the sea and help with a problem. I read it aloud to my kids. They loved it. I thought it was ok.
