Queering Lent

A collection of 41 poems (one for each day of Lent and one for Easter) and one sermon written as part of a simple Lenten discipline: write one poem every day. An exploration of queerness and Christianity--and the queerness of Christianity. This collection contains references to transphobia, violence against trans people, mental illness, and suicide. Tithes from the royalties will go towards organizations that supports queer/trans people in the church.

About the author

Slats (they/them/theirs) is a queer/trans/nonbinary Presbyterian. They hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Drama and a Master of Divinity. They most often work as a theater director, sound designer, and/or preacher.

I had been anxiously awaiting reading "queering lent" since learning of its publication last year. My relationship with the author and dates back to days of middle school. I have watched Slats grow and mature in faith and become not only my friend, but a colleague in ministry. I recommend this book highly because it challenges the faith community to observe the season of Lent in a different context, both theologically and spiritually. This book will become a permanent part of my Lenten practice going forward, if for no other reason to remind myself of the incomprehensible, queer God we serve and worship.
