In January 1969 the United Nations, working with the Banco de la Vivienda of Peru, asked 13 architects from various countries to submit competition designs for a community of 1500 houses on a site of 40 hectares located 8 kilometres North of Lima, Peru. This book contains the design proposal and its complete description given by Christopher Alexander et. al. The description includes 67 patterns given as parameters based on which the design was generated.
