I had a hard time with this novella. Knowing Dorian's and Burn's family demise, it became an exercise on how much can I hate Volcrian.

Sort of a prequel, sort of an additional story.

The book could certainly be a stand alone novel, however, if you have read the first book, this one does an amazing job of filling in a backstory that I knew that i wanted. Additionally the author masterfully ties elements into the main story line of the novels and also ensures that all the characters stay true to what is consistent about them. The look into the Wolfies past is wonderfully crafted, and leaves you understanding their plight at the start of the main story.

This was such a great addition to the series. Seeing how Dorian and Burn were before Sora. Learning how Crash got his name. The only thing I really could have done without was the fling between Dorian and Adelaide. She was obnoxious, spoiled and manipulative.I did not like her at all. Otherwise, great story.

I don't know if the author does it on purpose, but she is very good creating unbearable characters! This time is Adelaide, a manipulative and obsessive girl who just wants to find Kaelyn's grave without caring about risking other people's lives, but who hates others doing the same thing.

For example, she laughs at Dorian when he tells her about his magic, she says that she loves him but doesn't defend him in front of others, she yells at him for not having saved a book instead of his father's life and, in the end, she leaves without thanking them for anything. Crash even saved her from being killed, but she screamed at him for kill her attacker. Lol.

I would prefer to know more about Dorian, Burn's family or Crash's true intentions. Or even Volcrian's history. There is so much things to tell about this characters, so I'm really disappointed.
