Series: Spinster’s Society #2
Publication Date: 9/13/17

Another awesome pairing between the Spinster’s Society and the Men of Nashwood. The first book in the series, Lady Lorena’s Spinster’s Society ( The Spinster’s Society) introduced us to the spinsters and the Men of Nashwood. The Spinster’s Society is growing in number – and their newest member, Alice Wilkins, is our heroine in this book. The story is fast-paced and a real page-turner. You won’t be able to put it down because you’ll just have to see what is going to happen next.

Alice Wilkins’ father is the owner of a gentleman’s club named Wilkins. He is a widower and has raised Alice alone for many years. Alice’s aunt, who is in society, decides that Alice should marry – and marry well – so she has been chaperoning her at a number of balls. Alice doesn’t care for the balls but attends to please her aunt and also to spend time with her cousin Rose who is also out in society.

Alice has been in love with Calvin Lockwood since the first time he walked into her father’s gentleman’s club. He notices her as well but doesn’t let on that he does.

Calvin and his brother Frank have a very low opinion of women and marriage since their mother had many paramours and often left them for long periods of time. Calvin appreciates women for the bed-sport they provide and he’s worked his way through most of the ton – but – things change drastically on the night Alice discovers him in bed with her cousin. Just after that, Alice is shot while trying to protect him.

On the same night Alice is shot, her father goes missing. You’ll love solving the mystery of who tried to kill Calvin and what happened to Alice’s father. You’ll also love watching Alice and Calvin dance around each other on their way to a commitment.

The gentlemen who make up Men of Nashwood are:
Hugh Vance, Marquess of Edvoy;
Sir William Tift
Aaron Walsh, Earl of Jeanshire;
Emmett Starr, Earl of Ashwick and hero of the first book
Julius Hext, Marquess of Darvess;
Francis Cullip, Duke of Valdeston;
Morris Kidd, Duke of Cort;
Rollo Kerry, rich landed gentry;
Franklin Lockwood, very rich landed gentry and older brother to Calvin;
Calvin Lockwood, very rich landed gentry and our hero in this book

"I requested and received this e-book at no cost to me and volunteered to read it; my review is my honest opinion and given without any influence by the author or publisher."

Alice Wilkins has been in love with Mr. Calvin Lockwood for years, but what she doesn’t know is that he wants her too. Believed to be only the daughter of one of the most well known gentleman’s club owners in London; fate throws them a curve ball when Alice and Calvin meet again at the engagement ball for Lady Lorena and Lord Ashwick.

First, Alice stumbles upon Calvin in the middle of a tryst with her cousin, vowing to hate him forever until she takes a bullet to save his life. During all the drama of the evening the same cousin reveals to Calvin that Alice is in love with him. Instead of sending Calvin for the hills he runs back to her.

I could not put this one down as Alice, Calvin, the Men of Nashwood and the Spinsters searched for the shooter; all the while Alice and Calvin fell more in love!

Alice’s Shameless Spinster’s Society is filled with the same perfect combination of romance, suspense and friendships that made me fall in love with this series. This book could be read as a standalone but I highly recommend you read the first book because it is just so good!

This author has potential, but she really needs an editor. This reads like a first draft. It needs proofreading and a couple revisions to really tighten up the plot.

This book reminds me of old school harlequin romance books, where the men were domineering assholes who never apologize for their terrible behavior and the women are doormats who immediately forgive them any time they are kissed (or sex)

The hero was a likable rogue in the previous book, but he came a across like a jerk in this story. Plus, I didn't understand his motivations, he was all over the place. He had been in love with the heroine for 3 years, but seemingly had no plans to do anything about it. He had been a little bit in love with the previous book's heroine only a few months prior to this book. And only deigned to court the heroine after she caught him having sex with her cousin. (Which he never apologizes for and then had the audacity to be mad when she's justifiably upset about it) So it really felt out of nowhere when all the sudden he couldn't seem to live without this woman he'd been ignoring for years while f*cking anything else that moved.

The poor heroine, with her friends she certainly doesn't need enemies. I'm not even talking about her cousin (a weak subplot that gets dropped partway through) but the main heroines for the series. They completely invalidate the heroine's pain and anger at the hero after finding him with her cousin, and push her into a toxic relationship because the heroine loves him and he loves her. (Acting like a possessive jerk after hurting someone terribly is a pretty poor demonstration of love) It honestly infuriated me. On top of that, she's a doormat who never stands up for herself.

Other than the toxic relationship, the plot is sloppy. There were several minor subplots that should have been dropped because they either had no impact or made the story worse. The story with the heroine's cousin should have either been dropped (which would allow for a better introduction to the main characters) or expanded into an actual relevant conflict. The plot with her non engagement with her childhood friend should have been cut, it was pointless and added nothing. And unfortunately I thought the final conflict was super weak, there was no build up, the motives were incredibly contrived, and it ended way too easily.

However, I did find this to be an engaging read at least. While I was frustrated frequently, I was never bored. Almost every book I DNF is from boredom.

Seduction has never been sweeter and spinsterhood never more complex.

My Thoughts:

Having read many of this author's books I found it refreshing that she now includes scenes of a more sensual nature in her writing. This is the second book in this series and it has a bit more sensuality than the first one. So if you prefer no intimate scenes this book is not for you.
Although it is the second book of the series it does read well as a standalone since there are not that many characters that cross over from book #1.
Be prepared for a bumpy ride between Alice and Calvin.
I gave this book 4.25 of 5.0 stars for storyline and character development and a sensual rating of 3.5 of 5.0 flames.
I received a complimentary digital copy of this book from the author to read. This in no way affected my opinion of this title which I read and reviewed voluntarily.

Alice's Shameless Spinster's Society is book two in the series and both have been fantastic. I am thankful that I read book one because you get to understand the characters and how they relate to one another from the beginning.

In Alice's Shamelss Spinster's Society we meet Alice Wilson. Her father is owner of a gentleman's club. Alice has worked along side him for many years. She meets Calvin Lockwood, one of the Men of Nashwood, one day and falls in love with him at first sight. Alice and Calvin share one passionate kiss that she shares with her cousin, Rose. One evening at a society party, Alice walks in on Rose and Calvin in a compromising position. Alice is crushed, yet Calvin chases her defends his actions. As Calvin and Alice are discussing his misdeeds, a woman with a gun appears and shoots, Alice protects Calvin and is shot in the process. Immediately Alice is accepted into the Spinster's Society where she becomes fast friends with some very kind and well connected women. Calvin also learns from Rose that Alice loves him and has for some time. Calvin is thankful because he also holds deep feelings for Alice. Calvin sets off to get Alice to marry him, but after his betrayal, it will take a lot of work to win her heart and her trust.

Calvin and Alice set off to figure out who shot them and why. They uncover mysteries they had not imagined but in doing so they fall deep in love with one another. Alice is also ushered into friendships and relationships with both men and women that she never imagined.

I loved the book. It includes humor, romance, action and suspense. I cannot wait to hear the tale of the next Men of Nashwood who falls in love!

I love this series but...

Ok I love this series it’s funny and isn’t very historically accurate, but it’s entertaining. But man oh man this story makes me want to kick both H and h for two entirely different reasons! Ok for starters how fast would you forget your love had just had his hands all over your cousin, known or not. I mean come on! Even in his inner monologue he admitted to not loving her (which was good cause if he did then just slept with all the women over the past 6 yrs?) but his reasoning almost seemed to center on her being close enough to a lady (being a first cousin) which made her acceptable for marriage. Which for me left me feeling he was more in to her social standing then the women. Then he only allows her to bring up his indiscretions twice as a reason why she can’t marry him (that was my ‘uhuh yeah your dreaming’ moment in my head and she instead just nodded hers). And I couldn’t bear the main characters so I skipped ahead a little...20%.... and here we get some steam and....he just takes her virginity super fast and then in the morning is worried if he has sex with her to much she’ll hate it. On a good side it got me fired up enough to write a post about the characters. Which to me means good writing. Like I said, still love her writing style, but I couldn’t finish the book cause of the characters. Gonna try the next in the series

I received the ARC of Alice's Shameless Spinster's Society in exchange for a review.

The is second book in the Spinster Society series, but could easily be read as a stand alone without detracting from the story. This chapter of the Spinster Society focuses on Calvin Lockwood and Alice Wilkin. Alice secretly has a crush on Calvin, a known cad. In spite of this, she is stunned when she inadvertently walks in on her Cousin Rose and Calvin during an intimate moment.

Heartbroken and embarassed, Alice flees the party, only to be confronted by none other than Calvin himself. As the two continue their conversation, a woman enters the room with a gun. Alice jumps to shield Calvin from the shot only to be shot herself. Calvin quickly wraps the wound and runs for help...and finds himself awestruck by Alice's selflessness to protect him.

Determined to win back her trust and heart, Calvin vows to track down the woman, who shot Alice and protect Alice from future harm.

Good writing filled with love, seduction, friendship, and lots of twists & turns.

I very much look forward to the next book in this series.

I loved this book , Charlotte Stone is a great writer when you are reading her book you can see yourself as that charter in the book. The book is fast moving and easy to read but once you start you are not able to put it down.

The spinster society is a bunch of young lady's each bring something to this group. They are caring, loving, bold, fearless, supporting and love to get into trouble but most important they are great friends and protective of one another including the Men of Nashwood. When they find love watch out for these Ladies because they will do what ever it takes for them to be together.

The Men of Nashwood are as loyal, and protective of the ladies of Spinster Society. The book has adventure and mystery it will make you mad, laugh and cry.

This book is about Alice and Calvin both have been in love with each other but neither expressing how they feel to each other till that night when Alice's cousin betrays her trust and Alice is shot. Then Calvin must find out who shot her, they uncover mysteries they had not imagined and this is where the adventure starts

Alice's Shameless Spinster's Society

I enjoyed continuing the adventures and love of the Spinster's Society. The Shameless ones that is.. This time we read about Alice Wilkin who has been in love with Calvin Lockwood....a notorious rake, for some time. Until she witnesses something that breaks her heart.

With her broken heart, Alice she vowed never to trust or marry. That is until someone tries to kill her rake. Or was it the rake who was the target? Things get more interesting once Calvin is made aware of Alice's feelings for him....he's always been attracted to her and once he knows her feelings and they begin to understand there has been manipulation against them, well nothing will keep the rake from protecting Alice. And maybe Alice isn't quite so unwilling to trust Calvin after all.

A good read. At first a little hard for me to get into because I was trying to reacquaint myself with previous characters. The writer brings everyone in and does it well. Just take that little bit of time if you've read the first book..I recommend it, well worth it.

Sorry. Needs refined & research of era.

Not sure this is meant to be a stand-alone.
I was able to follow main storyline, but first chapters were overflowing with ill-defined characters and allusions to subplots.

Unfortunately it's obvious that author isn't familiar with basics of the regency era. I don't mind breaking a few rules for sake of story. However-

"...unless Rose could produce a son before her father’s death, the title would go to a distant cousin of theirs."

Title would go to the cousin regardless, A daughter's offspring would not inherit, no matter the gender.

Quite a few instances where many of the era's social conventions are more than broken for sake of fiction. They've been completely disregarded, and couldn't find any real benefit to story for doing such.

There were some interesting characters and ideas. If the author refined the introduction of multiple characters, subplots and did a little research, it might have been a decent read.
Didn't finish the book, so given benefit of doubt 1.5 stars.

Calvin and Alice. A good editor would have really been helpful. Misused words were distracting. This book spent a lot of time reiterating what had happened in the previous book, so that all of the many characters could be introduced again. My biggest complaint was the 21st century take on Regency behavior. The couples were always touching each other in public, staying overnight, being left alone, etc. Definitely not appropriate for this time period. I cared for Calvin less in this book than the previous. I felt like he was more of a man-whore in this book, and when Alice discovers him in a compromising situation? That would have been it for me! Also, I didn't care for Genie, yet again, in this book...too forward. And what the ladies have planned for her? I don't like the scheming.

Just an OK read, similar to the first book in the serie. Somehow I still want to read the next one though even though I just find the story OK.

The pattern is always similar. There are a group of men, the Nashwood men, who are closed friends. One of them falls I. Love with the heroine who plays hard to get and one of his friend threaten to woo the heroine himself. The heroine eventually agrees to marry the hero but the wedding is postponed for whatever reason put forward by the heroine and the book ends there with the hero and heroine very much in love and together but not married yet.

There is also a lot of sex taking place in the book. The heroines are also feminists beyond the years they live in.

As mentioned, OK but good enough for me to read the next one in the serie, especially because it is the story of Genie which I really want to find out about.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

This is such a good series.
Between the Spinster's Society and the Men of Nashwood, there are handsome men, beautiful women and lots of exciting and interesting situations and romances. Calvin, a rogue, has set his sights on Alice. Alice has loved Calvin forever. Sometimes, it just takes an awkward situation and the heroine protecting the hero to realize the depth of their love. Calvin will definitely make you swoon. The image of him in my mind is dreamy.
There are many more stories to tell in this series, especially considering the number of gentlemen known as the Men of Nashwood.
While this is the second book in the series, in can easily be read as a stand alone. I encourage you to read both books and keep reading as other books are released in the series.

Charlotte Stone's second book in her "Spinster's Society" series was called "Alice's Shameless Spinster's Society." Alice lives on the fringe of the ton during the Regency Period in British History. She was never supposed to catch the eye of a member of the ton. She was certainly never to entertain the thought that he might want to actually court her. However, what Alice doesn't realize is that her father has his own plans for her.
Overall, I really enjoyed reading this novel. I read the first book in this series some time ago, and wanted to wait until all of the books were published before continuing the rest of the series. However, I CAN NOT FIND IT ON AMAZON!!! What happened? Why were Charlotte Stone's book pulled? Hopefully one day they'll go back up...

Alice’s Shameless Spinster’s Society (The Spinster’s Society) (A Regency Romance Book) by Charlotte Stone is a complex Recency Romance. While, part of a series it can be read as a stand alone.

Well written with engaging characters and a well defined and intriguing plot. Spinster hood has never been more complex!

Steady paced with much action, the characters will grab your heart from the beginning to the end. Complex and captivating. This series is getting better and better! Calvin and Alice make a great couple, strong minded, determined, fierce and need each other, in my opinion. Ms. Stone delivers another stellar Recency Romance.

I didn't think Charlotte Stone could top the first book in this series but in my opinion She Most Certainly Did.  Alice has loved Calvin for six years. He never once let on what his feelings were for her until one night he teaches her what it means to want. It takes a huge, heartbreaking mistake for him to finally decide to go for what he wants. Charlotte Stone is a new author to me and she hooked me with her attention to detail and fun, fierce characters who know what they want. I'm so excited to see what she has in store for us next. This is one series you are going to want to read again and again.

Another wonderful read!! Alice has had feelings for Calvin since first laying eyes on him. When Calvin walked into the gambling hall several years ago and locked eyes with Alice he knew it was love at first sight. But when he was banished from her fathers gaming hell she does not see him again until they meet at a ball. When Calvin pulls Alice into a private room an unknown woman comes in and fires a shot. Alice jumps in front of Calvin and takes the bullet. Calvin thinks the woman was after him. A great read with a wonderful story and ending. You have passion, lust, mystery, betrayal and love all wrapped up in a delicious read!!

This was an entertaining Regency romance. Alice Wilkins has had feelings for Calvin Lockwood since she met him, but he has never shown interest in her. They find themselves involved in a dangerous situation, and the ladies of the Spinster's Society take her under their wings for protection. This book moved at a fast-paced and kept my interest. It included humor, romance and suspense. This book can be read as a standalone story, though it is part of The Spinster's Society series. I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading others by this author.

Three cheers for the Spinters

Love those Nashwood men!!!!
Alice and Calvin were wonderful to read. Potential murder,mayhem and mystery are just some of the things they have to worry about.
A missing father leaves Alice wondering what he's hiding and Calvin trying to protect her.
Love, lust and a makeover for Alice has Calvin seeing seeing red or should I say "green". I
Love how the women come to each other for help and their friendship grows.

Love these characters!

This is the second book in this series and I really enjoy getting to know the characters more. The Men of Nashwood and the ladies of the Spinster Society feel like friends now and I like watching them pair up and learning more about them. Ms. Stone is great at dropping an intriguing little nugget about one of them that leaves you anxious for the next book!!

I loved this book! it is the second in the series. I really liked getting more background on the men. There are many places I found my self laughing out loud. I love how the guys react to the women getting into trouble. Alice and Calvin have loved each other for years but never let on that they did. It is exciting to see how it all unfolds. I received this book as an ARC.

Alice meets the SSS

Alice is the daughter of the owner of a Gentlemen's Club and as her late mother was a daughter of a Marquis's she was invited to balls. Her uncle (the current Marquis) and family including her cousin Rose accompanied her. At one ball when she was looking for Rose found her in bed with the man Alice HD been in love with for years.

As much as I enjoyed the premise and the characters of this book, it was so poorly written that I simply cannot continue with the series. The author described a well-known tailor as "renounced", just one example of her incorrect use of vocabulary. It's really unfortunate, because a skilled editor could have helped craft an enjoyable book around her good ideas and shabby execution.
