Caelestis #3

Through Ddaera's Touch: Paradisi Chronicles

Rate this book
Ddaera, the planet the Founders from Earth call New Eden, changes all she touches with her special gifts. Can Mei Lin, the studious daughter of a Founding Family, find common ground with Silence, a sentient snow cat, in order to save Ddaera and the people they love and have sworn to protect.

Through Ddaera’s Touch, the sequel to Under Two Moons, is the third book in the Caelestis Series in the Paradisi Chronicles (an open source, science fiction series created by multiple authors). This exciting action-adventure novel tells the story of the emergence of a Resistance Movement that begins to unite disaffected New Eden citizens, the native Ddaerans, and the Reachers, new arrivals from Earth, against the Founding Families of New Eden.

I didn't like Jaxon or the age gap in the romance, and the portrayal of autism as a disorder made me a little uncomfy. I also think this book could have been combined with the previous one and some repetitive dialogue cut to make it work - they really both tell one story. I did, however, love Silence and the snow cats, and the affection for the world and characters that the first book engendered in me really carried me through the rest of the trilogy.

YA adventure story set on another planet, where some people from earth settled amongst the original inhabitants after Earth's destruction.

Clean, no language. No sex.

Maybe I missed it, but i didn't read any clear description of some of the "characters" whom I thought were people, only to find out they are some sort of sentient creature or animal. The book didn't really grab me, so I've been reading it in spurts over a couple of months. Also, some of the names are so different than usual names, but then are also very similar to each other, that I have a hard time remembering who/what that is and who/what they belong with. Again, this is probably just me since I'm not reading this is one sitting.

The main character is 17 or 18yo, and the leader of her group- of course very unbelievable, although she is mature and leads well. I wish the author just aged her as upper (or even middle) 20's.

I read this as an omnibus that never differentiated when book 2 or 3 transitioned. Comments about book 3:
+ A satisfying ending to the book's circumstances, but hints of what is to come in future books
+ Mei (17/18yo) and Jaxon (30yo) tell each other their feelings (no romance up to this point)

I will not read the next books, or the prequel Aelwyd: Home

Although a few thread are left dangling after the end of this third book of the Caelestis Trilogy of the Paradisi Chronicles, it still is a satisfying ending. The development of the relationship of Mei Lin and Jaxon, the wonderful sentient Daeran animals and hybrids, and the cooperation among the Daerans, the Challenger passengers and at least some of the original settlers all contribute to the enjoyment. Although there are a few other Paradisi Chronicle books, I hope there’s another series coming where Mei Lin’s brother Albert gets his due and she shows everyone why her great grandmother made Mei Lin her heir. I also want to know what caused the psychic abilities of a few of the characters, perhaps from Dr. Eleanor’s viewpoint.

I loved reading this series and felt akin with the characters including the animals! There is a definite message here for humanity! Save this planet and stop the multi millionaires greed! The idea of mind communication is still a possibility in the future
The only disappointing area was the " fill in" from the previous books a bit of padding out there! But luckily a satisfactory conclusion with perhaps more later

this is the third book in the series. I could not put down.
Mei Len and Jaxom get to know each other better and Mei Len needs his help to thwart her brothers attempt to mine illegal minerals from the earth.
Jaxom needs her help to rescue his aunt and other prisoners from the prison that the founders set up for the challenger spaceship.
They have to learn to trust each other and their growing closeness.

Excellent Series — Great Characters

The author has built a fine structure of plot and characters on the shared world infrastructure. A deep, complex involving ‘human’ story in the broadest sense. Worth far more than the meager price of admission. Read all three book and enjoy as I did!

Magnificent!

I love this series, and this book, because the characters seem so real. Through the series I have really gotten to know them
and I wonder how their stories continue as if they were real life people. The descriptions of places and events are so vivid it is as though I am there. I also love the Paradisi concept and look forward to reading more of the related books.

Stronger than #2. I’m happily on to #4. A quick note: the Kindle edition I read has a bonus short story (Aelwyd) at the end. This is a prequel that sheds light on one of the mysteries developed in the series. My initial thought was that I should have read this before the novel, but far be it from me to second guess the judgement of this excellent mystery author as to when to disclose clues!

This was much better than book two - finally some action! There was still a lot of thinking and guessing and second guessing and presuming but not like book two. The main thing I picked up was the author used the word "proscription" when she meant "prescription". The first means ban, the second means the way something was set out to be done.

Very satisfactory wrap up of this trilogy. - with plenty of room for further story-telling.
Author gives suggestions for further reading both before and after the story - with after including a more comprehensive list of Paradisi stories. Refer there when you are ready to read on.

The only comment I have is the story of Mei Lin isn't finished. There was also no notations that more is coming. I love the strong characters in this segment of the Chronicles. The character development and the world development are both very engaging. I hope there is more to come.

Saving New Eden and some prisoners from the Challenge
bring many things to the forefront. Family relationships become more clear, and new relationships are forged.

Mixed feelings on this one. I enjoyed most of it but revolutionary idealism got a bit much at the end

Beyond the Earth

I really enjoyed the idea of what could happen when the Earth was no more. Very hard to lay down! Was wishing for additional information on their lives.
