This book by Erwin A. Bauer is from 1974. It’s a guide for people who love the outdoors and want to take pictures of nature, like animals, fish, or landscapes. Bauer was a pro photographer who wrote for magazines like Outdoor Life. He knows a lot from being out in the field. When this book came out, the info was super helpful and taught a lot. Even today, though it’s old, I learned some stuff from it. You can tell the author loved what he did and trusted his ways. He talks about picking cameras and lenses, how to handle light and exposure in the wild, and how to set up good shots. He stresses being patient, not bothering animals, and dealing with bad weather. His writing is excited, and he shows his own photos as examples. The book is easy to get for newbies. It’s not too techy. He gives tips on film, tripods, and making hides for animal pics. But now, with digital cameras and phones, the old gear stuff feels out of date. You have to think about how to use the ideas with new tech. The basic stuff like watching, timing, and telling a story with photos is still good. This short book is fun to look back on for old-school photography. It won’t beat new books, but it’s cool for history or basic skills if you like wildlife.
I give it 3.5 out of 5 stars -good for its time, and still has some charm for nature fans.
