As an avid snowboarder from Utah, Ben grew up with a passion for learning. This thirst for knowledge led him to sports, music, and academic endeavors. After a year of college, he did volunteer work in Brazil and became fluent in three languages. Graduating from the University of Central Florida, he started and ran several successful businesses before publishing his first novel in June of 2012. By the end of the year he'd sold almost ten thousand copies of The Second Draeken War, and he began writing full-time. Now spanning 10,000 years, ten titles, and two series, The Chronicles of Lumineia represents a sprawling YA series that has sold over fifty thousand copies, and continues to expand its readership across all ages. Each of his books has been inspired by his wonderful wife and five beautiful children.

I love Ben's books and I always pull the trigger to buy them as soon as I get a notification that a new one has been released. While reading this book I reflected on the entirety of the Lumineia series that I've read over the last few years and how I've come to know and love the world that Ben has built.
This is book 2 of, I assume, a 3 book series (the Age of Oracles). This series is the temporal opposite of the Last Oracle series which jumped thousands of years into the future of Lemineia (Earth) and explored a magic world that was kept secret from the modern world we know. This series is set several thousand years earlier than the first book and describes a time where there is a council of Oracles instead of just one and magic is woven into every facet of life.
This book stars several months after the end of book 1 which saw the capture of Alydian. The Defiant, the guerrilla, anti-Verinai group, is in disarray and on the run. The Oracles have risen up to forcibly guide the populace in the direction they see fit. The POV for this book are Alydian, Raiden, and Toron.
It's interesting; we've now seen 3 very different time periods in this world. The Last Oracle was very different. It was set in modern times, magic was largely underground and hidden, and the understanding of magic and how to use it was fairly different as well, due, in part I believe, to concurrent increases in scientific understanding and breakthroughs. As the world's understanding of gravity and the electromagnetic spectrum increased, mages who were able to manipulate them were also found. However, the differences between The Age of Oracles and the Second Draeken War seem negligible. The level of technology is about the same and there doesn't seem to be any significant difference in magic use. Some series that I've read have used some sort of cataclysmic event as a way to reset the technology. Perhaps the first Draeken War is that cataclysm. I'm not sure on the timeline of that.
As always, Ben has wrote a very entertaining and fast read. Even though we know roughly where the story is going and who is going to survive, he is able to generate a good amount of suspense in regards to certain characters. There are some interesting developments in the Toron POV chapters that I hope are fleshed out more. As always, I am looking forward to the next book.
What I liked about the title was, the title "The Lost mage" totally aligned to the Story in he book. The narration was beautiful as ever for Ben hale's book.
Lots of lovely characters are introduced and old characters have grown.
The book never lacked pace and moved at a lovely pace. ALthough i was confused of the timeline sometimes due to perspective of different characters. The starting was little slow and when it picked it rocked.
I don't know exactly what it is about his writing that appeals to me but I really enjoy all of his works. The Lost Mage delivered. The depth and detail are not overdone and the story is very compelling. I really enjoyed the climax.
I've read almost every Ben Hale book published, will read Assassin's Blade, and he still managed to surprise me.
Another amazing story with Alydian, her mother Elenyr, and her love, Raiden, and the last three evil Oracles that want to take over everything and be the rulers. Alydian's "rage" when she finally escaped was phenomenal. I can't wait to start the third book.
No romance and definitely no swearing.
As for the narration: Kate Reading does an awesome job on the voices and the emotions when she reads.
Author has a tendency to overuse words. Form, frame, steed, supreme, asunder, etc,. Poorer editing on this one than previous novels. Should spend more time proofing and consult a thesaurus.
In book two of this series the bound Oracle must struggle simply to maintain her awareness. Others struggle to find her. Mr. Hale creates a boatload of characters, each one worth a book. Oracle's mean magic, no magic is bad, that depends on its use.
