Alpha Squad: The Complete Collection

Rate this book
It has only been a few months since humanity found out about the various shifters that live among them. This brave new world is not without its challenges; neither for the humans or the shifters. Alpha Squad is formed to help law enforcement agencies deal with shifter related matters, and not a moment too soon! Follow the brave men and women of the squad as they try to come to terms with their new reality, catch criminals and find love along the way.

Boot Camp
Bear shifter Eric King is asked to join Alpha Squad; a task force meant to promote cooperation between shifters and humans in law enforcement, but there are problems: Is Alpha Squad even a serious initiative? And how will he focus on his training when his inner bear insists that the squad leader is his mate?

Friends & Foes
Alpha Squad has received its very first assignment and bear shifter Adam King is excited to jump head-first into the action. Upon investigating a string of seemingly shifter related murders, he finds himself torn between his job and the local police’s main suspect; Felicity Weir; female bear shifter and Adam’s fated mate…

Infiltrator
For the past six months, Thomas Blackwood has been serving two masters: he’s been an active part of Alpha Squad, but only on his old alpha’s say-so. When he finds himself stuck in between two sets of clashing orders, he must make a choice: who does he truly serve? And what would the woman of his dreams, Private Callahan, think of him if she knew he was a traitor?

Showdown
Upon joining Alpha Squad, bear shifter hybrid Sean McMillan realizes there's a lot more to being a shifter than occasionally sprouting some fur. His first mission: a double murder. That shouldn't be too hard for the experienced former police detective, but he didn't count on coming across lab assistant Erin Reid who shows an unusual amount of interest in him. Strangely, the feeling is mutual...

So this is my first bear/wolf shifter story and in audible form it was quite entertaining!!

From the start of the first book, Boot Camp, where Janine and Eric meet I was pulled into this workplace romance. They try to keep things professional yet they manage to find romance anyways. Their dynamic is really great and the even though the whole team feels like they are there for show, as time goes on things start to show purpose and meaning.

In book two, Friends and Foes the team is given their first assignment and this leads Adam to find his mate Felicity, yet she is also the one the team believes to be the threat. As the book is full of action, Felicity, Adam and the whole must find a way to work together and find a killer. Enjoyed the protective nature of the male over his mate.

Book three, Infiltrator continues on with the team and it’s missions. The new member is a wolf shifter and he set his sights on Jill. It’s funny when Jill tries to ignore Thomas, she wants nothing to do with him knowing if she allows the connection to grow it will be unprofessional and bad. Bit these two cannot keep themselves away from each other. Loves the storyline about Thomas working both sides and the dilemma he is facing.

In Showdown, book four I really enjoyed Erin’s character. She was involved in a conspiracy that she believed to be against her moral compass and sets her sights in doing the right thing. Sean also is an admirable character that I enjoyed. This last book was definitely full of action and intensity as time is running out to find the killer.

All four book were definitely wonderful to hear and the narrator, Audrey Lusk did a great job. I was pulled into each story and the romance and action in each. Overall a great series and listening to it was definitely worth every minute of my time.

This was a fun filled, some action, some intensity, some suspense, some shifting, some entanglements collection of Alpha, attractive, sexy, strong, protective, hot males shifters and a female or two. This was a complete series read with all the books in one place and one tap to have the next page on the screen. This made for a smooth reading afternoon early evening read.

Alpha Squad: Boot Camp – Eric and Janine
Eric and Adam find that they are heading for a new world of adventure and love. Eric just never expected that he would be working so close to the one that would be his for life. Janine has been chosen to help with the leading of the Alpha Squad. She just never expected to find that she would have so much to gain or lose all in one assignment.

Alpha Squad: Friends & Foes – Adam and Felicity
Adam, may just have to help put down his mate, Felicity. He knows deep down that she belongs to him and she could not be behind the attacks on humans. She determined to find out who was trying to frame her people for the attacks on the humans that were taking place so close to where there of unwanted shifters are located. Someone was out to get her and the shifters and make them pay for crimes they had no part in.

Alpha Squad: Infiltrator – Thomas and Jill
Thomas had me from the first book in this series. I found him to be enthusiastic and easy going. Private Jill Callahan was a rule follower, smart, and tough. She could assess a person well. I found them to have a simple connection. I found that they worked well together. When the question of loyalties came in to play I was a bit on the fence. I was not sure which way Thomas would go. I was confident in Private Callahan.

Alpha Squad: Showdown – Sean and Erin
Sean comes in to his own and shows what he's good at. He’s all grown up and knows right, wrong and justice. This mission will find that problem that has been plaguing the shifters and to a point the squad. With the help of Erin or hindrance. Just depends on how you view things. I loved getting to know both Sean and Erin.

Merged review:

I love shifters, especially hot sexy, protective, confusing shifters. Now the shifters are out of the shadows and in to the light. With the help of Audrey Lusk, Lorelei Moone brings some of her fan-favs to us with clarity, smooth flow of audio, and a layer of connection on multiple levels. The audio was a bonus for those that have read it or not. You can continue on with your day an get a good listen with a good set of various characters, friends and foes.

Boot Camp:
I had the privilege to listen to this series on audible Narrated by Audrey Lusk and I have to say that I loved it! I loved how Audrey told this story, her voice was so melodic it had me in a trance. This series started off with a big bang! I love a shifter story but this one was excellent and I can't say enough about this story. I do not want to give it away but I will give you a simple review for you to get the jist of the story.

The world has found out that there are shifters amongst them and are afraid. They do not want to be attacked and want to know they are going to be safe. So the government sets up a task force with the shifters and humans. The shifters are represented by Eric King and the human representative is Janine Williams. As these two work together things start to heat up when Eric realizes that Janine is his true mate.

Can Eric convince Janine that she is his true soul mate? Or will Janine going to run the other way?

Friends & Foes:
This is book two in the series and HOLY HADES it started off with a bam! Adam is recruited for the first assignment. The shifter refugee camp in Sevenoaks is under attack and livestock is being killed and then humans are being killed. The team has to figure out who it is and there is one person who is on their radar and it's one of their own Felicity.

Adam knows it is not Felicity but he has to prove it and it is going to be hard to prove when he is emotionally invested because Adam knows that Felicity is his true mate. Adam is struggling with his inner bear because he wants Felicity to be his mate. Felicity has dedicated her life to helping her people find housing and start their lives over again in a safe environment. As they follow the clues to catch the killer they soon find out that the person involved is someone they would have never expected.

Can they catch the killer before they run? Can he clear Felicity's name? Is Felicity going to become his true mate?

Infiltrator:
Lordy Lordy Lordy was what I was thinking while I was listening to this story. This is the third story in the series and it keeps getting better and better. I really loved this one because Thomas is the man. I loved how he was torn between his Alpha and his true soul mate. He is caught up in a web with his pack and he has to decide whether or not he is going to follow his pack or follow his heart.

Thomas's pack leader asks him to spy on the team and tell him everything that is going on. At first Thomas does this but he soon feels like he should be loyal to the team and his mate. There is a string of crimes going on and Thomas and the team must figure out who is committing these crimes. This is hard for him because he is not sure who to trust and who to believe.

Jill is watching Thomas because he is acting weird and she wants to know what is going on with him. As she delves deeper into what Thomas is doing she learns that she has feelings for him and more than a friendship but she can't act upon those feelings until she finds out what is really going on with Thomas.

Who will Thomas choose? Will he and Jill become mates? This one was such a rollercoaster ride I was sitting in my chair gripping it because I needed to know what was going to happen next.

Showdown:
Oh Man listening to this story had me on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen next. Sean has lived his life like a human not like a shifter so he is used to doing human things and not shifter things. So when he joins the Alpha team he is introduced to a new world and way of living. It is not easy for him to adjust but he does because he is ready to help his team out. There are murders happening and he wants to solve them and plus he is good at solving crimes.

Sean runs into some trouble when he is investigating the crimes and he is not sure what to do about this witness. He wants to believe her but he also feels something is off about her and suspects she knows more than she is saying. Plus Seans inner shifter wants to claim this woman as his own.

Erin's research project is boring so she thinks until she finds out that her research is more than what it seems and she will have to decide whose side she is on and what she is going to do but she vows to make it right and help Sean and his team out to discover the truth.

Alpha Squad: Complete Collection by Lorelie Moon brings together the four novellas that make up this series into one collection. The four novellas – Boot Camp, Friends & Foes, Infiltrator, and Showdown – follow the adventures and romances of members of Alpha Squad. This squad was created in the wake of shifters outing themselves to humanity as a means of helping law enforcement deal with shifter-related problems. There is an overarching plot that flows through all four of the novellas.

In Boot Camp, the reader is introduced to Eric and Janine. Janine is the major placed in charge of Alpha Squad and has been given specific instructions by the general of the base. Eric has been asked to join Alpha Squad by the Minister of Shifter Relations. He does because he feels it’s his duty, but once there, he’s not even sure if Alpha Squad is meant to succeed or fail. What’s worse, he recognizes that his new commanding officer is his mate.

The follow up, Friends & Foes, takes Alpha Squad to Sevenoaks, where a series of nasty murders is leading to tension between the shifter refugee camp and the locals. Adam, Eric’s brother, while excited to finally have an assignment, is torn between finding the ones responsible for the murders and his mate – who just so happens to be the local law enforcement’s main suspect.

In the third book, Infiltrator, Ms Moone introduces the reader to wolf shifters and the internal politics of packs. While Thomas is a part of Alpha Squad, he is only there because his alpha told him to join. His alpha wants to know what is going on and at some point, alpha’s orders are going to clash with his duties on Alpha Squad. Plus, there’s his serious attraction to Jill. Will his loyalty to his pack override the life he’s building in Alpha Squad?

Lastly, there is the aptly named Showdown, which concludes the overarching plot. Sean is new to the squad and feels like he’s stuck between two worlds. When the squad is tasked to go undercover to investigate a series of murders, he doesn’t expect his attraction to pretty lab tech, Erin. With danger rising, the only question is whether he can come to grips with who he is.

Overall, this is an enjoyable series. The characters are interesting and while the plots are a bit predictable (especially in Boot Camp) that doesn’t take away from the enjoyment. The writing is a little stilted at times and sometimes the plot feels a bit rushed. My only true complaint is that Alpha Squad is made up of a mix of humans and shifters, and well a couple of the novellas include the female humans in the plot, I would have enjoyed seeing a novella that focuses on one of the male humans in the squad. Nonetheless, if you like shifters and the idea of the aftermath of shifters outing themselves to humans, this is a really good place to start.

One last note: I could not help but compare the current immigration crisis in Europe with the opening scenes of Boot Camp or the current political rhetoric involving immigration with the arguments against shifters in the populace Ms. Moone describes. While this interpretation may be a little highbrow for a romance series, shifters have long been portrayed as “the other” and Ms. Moone has happened upon a plot that echoes arguments made today about “the other” in our societies.

4 stars for this box set.

NB: I was given a copy of this book by the author and chose to review it.

REVIEW
I have read of these books separately and I am choosing to put my reviews on this bundle.

Boot Camp:
If you read the previous series by this author then you will know where some of the characters in this book come from. The shifters came out and now they are building a Alpha Squad to help ease fears and to keep the peace. The problem is not all are on-board or honest in this endeavor.
Eric and his brother Adam are all in and head out to join this squad but Eric is not prepared for what happens.
His Major is none other than a woman he has thought about since seeing her in a restaurant. Now what is he to do? Janine is she human? Well she can all of a sudden hear Eric' thoughts.
If you love shifters and a bit of action with a touch of spice then pick up this book. It can be read as a stand-alone as it's a first in a new series. I really enjoyed it and can't wait for the next one.

Friends & Foes:
This is the second book in this series. We met Adam back in book one when he and his brother were joining Alpha Squad.
Alpha Squad is sent out on their first mission. However, someone is killing, brutally murdering not only animals but humans? The first place the authorities are looking to is the shifter refugee camp in Sevenoaks.
Felicity is a strong female aka bear shifter. She has been helping the shifters at the camp with transitioning.
Somehow the authorities are now looking at her as being their number one suspect.
To top that off her bear is in love with another bear.
I enjoyed this book. It was an intense story. I loved Adam and Felicity.

Infiltrator:
This is book three and wow.
We get Thomas Blackwood who is in a bad position. He must do what his Alpha has ordered however he is now with a team who he respects and values so what can he do?
Enter teammate Jill Callahan at first she blows him off now she is scoping him out why?
Some wolves are causing trouble, and it's up to Alpha Team to end it but will it end in more than arrests?
Tons of suspense and action in this one. Can't wait to see where this series goes next.

Showdown:
I have enjoyed this series by this author, and it's a sad day that this is the finale.
Alpha Squad may finally get their recognition.
We get a blood drive, which Lab Assistant Erin is part of. Sean is undercover as a security guard.
When Sean and Erin meet it all goes haywire.
Sean has lived his life more human because he is an anomaly. Read the story and find out more.
This was a perfect ending to a fantastic series.

Boot Camp
What a great story. Eric is asked to join Alpha Squad and agrees despite not really believing in the brief. Janine has been "promoted" to be the head of Alpha Squad but the only reason it went to her is because none of the men in her unit wanted the position. She is then told by her commanding officer that he expects the unit to fail and it is up to her to make it happen. Janine is dedicated to her career and she has sacrificed having a personal life in order to make her career happen. Then she meets her new unit which includes Eric. Eric realises almost instantly that Janine is his true mate but the fact is she is essentially his commanding officer and she tries her best to deny her feelings. Will Eric & Janine's mate bond hold true or will Janine put her career before her feelings? Look forward to reading the rest of the series as it got off to a banging start.

Friends & Foes
A great continuation of the series, I'm glad Adam's story came right after Eric's. Adam hasn't had the most stable background, he got involved in some shady stuff and was always so different from Eric but joining Alpha Squad has given him discipline when he and Felicity he knows immediately that this is his true mate and definitely has a reason to settle down and be responsible unfortunately there are forces at work trying to turn the human populace against shifters and they have Felicity in their cross hairs as the scapegoat. Will Adam and Alpha Squad be able to find out what is really going on & prove Felicity's innocence?

Infiltrator
Thomas has always intrigued me merely because I always thought there was more to him than met the eye & boy was I right. Right from the first book I had hoped it would be Callahan & Blackfoot so am very pleased.

Showdown
I love the Alpha Squad. A team of guys who have the odds stacked against them because they are made up largely of shifters there are many who want to see them fail but time after time they prove themselves. Sean is such a sweetheart of a guy and totally dedicated to his team and what their mission is. Erin suits him perfectly, she is sweet and kind and the chemistry between her and Sean is undeniable. I absolutely loved their story.

Alpha Squad the complete collection
Shifters are finally becoming known to the world and to assist law enforcement and in shifter relations the new Alpha Squad is created. The only problem is, there are many who want Aloha Squad to fail before it even begins. In Book 1 “Boot Camp”, Eric already has somewhat of a background with shifter relations from working with the New alliance but nothing compared him for the training for Alpha Squad, made even more complicated after meeting new Squad leader and his unknowing mate Janine. Janine is in a difficult position of wanting to do her best in training Alpha Squad, but has been given orders to make them fail. They ultimately work together to further Alpha Squads success. Book 2 “Friends and Foes”, brings together youngest member of the team Adam and suspect Felicity during Alpha Squads first major case. Adam has to go out on his own to prove Felicity’s innocence. In Infiltrator, book 3, laid back Thomas is put to the test, when his Pack Alpha tells him to go against his new team and protect outlaw wolves. When his newly discovered mate, Jill, discovers that Thomas has betrayed not only the Squad but all her hard work, she sends him on his way. Thomas has to enlist the help of new friends to prove his loyalty to the team. Finally in “Showdown”, new member of the team Sean doesn’t know where he belongs. As a hybrid shifter he’s caught between two worlds, being human and being shifter. Thankfully, when his life is threatened, it’s being a hybrid that keeps him alive. It’s up to to his newly met mate Erin to discover the source of his illness and bring down the men responsible. I found all 4 books entertaining and easy reads. I felt that all characters were complex and believable. I especially liked the psychic communication between the couples and found Eric’s bears pleading for Janine to pay attention to him, especially heartbreakingly sweet. I rate this collection 5 hearts.

This is one of my favorite shifter series of all time! I love the way the author seamlessly melds the action and suspense with the heartwarming love story. Each book stands alone as a love story, but the overall threat that the Alpha Squad is facing unfolds over each of the books, making for a rewarding story arc that brings together all our young couples. Each member of the Squad is as unique as their love stories, but each one is invaluable to the Squad and brings something different to the case. Each of their mates also plays an important role in the investigation. The romances are solid, the characters are strong and likable, the stories are captivating from the start and the resolutions are perfect. This is a set that I'll be rereading often. I voluntarily reviewed ARC copies of each of these books.

I loved this complete collection of Alpha Squad , i'm not doing the books individually but i will try & give an overall feel of the books . The secrets out & humans are still coming to terms with the fact shifters are real. Alpha Squad is formed as an experiment in policing & we follow all the characters from the first day of boot camp to the point where more teams are being formed off the success of the first one . These books do have HEA but always after drama , betrayal & mistrust but every new group has to work its kinks out . I loved the fact that the books flow from one to the other but can still be read as stand alones without losing any of the story or plot , i read Alpha Squad showdown before any of this complete collection but it didn't spoil anything for me .

This is an exciting rollercoaster of adventures beginning with book one when the country discovers "shifters" live among us and "Alpha Squad" is created to help police them to the last book when more teams are being anticipated! Everything from betrayal, miscommunication, misunderstanding and mistrust are thrust at this team and more importantly of all the "shifters" discovering their mates! Tremendously entertaining and enjoyable!!

Loved these books! Each stood on its own with a HEA yet kept the same characters that we met from the start as each member found a mate. The chemistry was hot and lots of action to keep the pages turning. I read each book as it came out and wasn't disappointed with any of them. The characters are all well developed and likeable with different stories for each member of the squad.

A great series and I loved it. I do like when there is a series with each person looking for a mate with a happily ever after. And then bringing them over into the nest story like a family. These were really good and kept my attention. I highly recommend it. I received a review copy and voluntarily review it.

3.5 stars. This was a good story but I struggled with getting into it. I listened to it on audio but I am not a fan of the narrator unfortunately; I ended up stopping a few times. I'm glad I eventually stuck with it because the stories were intriguing. Friends and Foes and Infiltrator were my two favourites of the four.
If you like alpha shifters, i'd recommend giving this a try.

A sequel to the Scottish Werebear books, shifters have come out to the world but their problems aren't over. This is a collection of 4 novellas (about 90 pages each) that deal with the formation of a special group which reports to the office of Shifter Affairs. No one on the squad is overly happy about the name Alpha Squad. The group is headed by a woman from the military. No one really believes it can succeed as the 5 volunteers start training. Each book progresses through the problems of relations between human and shifter. And of course, finding their mates. It's a fun series that will probably have many more installments.

If you love Alpha men and the strong women they love then this series is for you.

Each one of these can be read as a stand alone but I feel they go better in order. Each story brings a mate to the squad but also helps solve a problem and brings them closer to figuring out everything.
