Tantalus #4.5

Forbidden Contact

Rate this book
Karia can barely stand to be around herself, never mind others. She has been confined to the Aerie, until after the birth of her child, but there are limits to what she can do to pass the time.

Mitchell understands, although there is little he can do about it. He doesn’t have the time to deal with her moods and needs.

Erin, remembers what it was like for her, when she had carried Karia, but the requirements of her position with the new inhabitants of Tantalus, due to Karia’s pregnancy, is taking up every moment she has to spare.

Only one, Alena, seems to know what to do to soothe her granddaughter as she enters the final stages of her pregnancy. She enters the room, sits by Karia’s chair and begins to “Let me tell you of a very young Tantalarian girl, a handsome young Tantalarian Guardian and the love they shared.”

This is a very short novella but there was just so much happening within. Karia and Mitchell's daughter has decided to come out but that was not the only surprise that M.A. had for us in this book. I do not know what to call the line the Tribunal Elder has made but it is strong and powerful. We finally get to know the back story of Eins' parents, Karia's mom, and also Alena's, Erin's mother, back story as well.

The whole line is amazing and I loved the little side stories that are occurring but they will all interconnect. I am super excited to hear more from the new character and I am also looking forward to reading about what the Tribunal Elder feels about the new guest.

SN: I still think that humans are plan awful. We will never learn. The fact there is a group of people dominating over another group of people is horrible. Everyone that came from Earth are all supposed to be equal but yet there is always a way for certain people to treat others like they do not matter.

Forbidden Contact by M.A. Abraham is a novella from her Tantalus series. This story revolves around Michel and Karia as they await the birth of their child. With the soon arrival of humans from mars, Michel is sent to oversee the preparations for more food, and habitual caves.

Karia’s great grandmother and grandmother watch over her through the start of her contractions. To get her mind off of the pain, Alenia (great grandmother) tells her how she met her great grandfather, and the laws in those days that prevented them on acting on their feelings. When she became pregnant with Erin (grand mother), they were punished and separated. The laws were archaic, but the tribunal elder refused to listen, thereby causing much friction that would take decades to open doors.

When Erin gave birth to Karia in a similar way, only the fact that Karia was designated to belong to a high ranking Phoenix opened the way for things to slowly change.

To tell too much more, would be spoilers leading into the next full length novel. When the happy couple give birth, those changes will begin with a big, but nice twist. Forbidden Contact was a nice lighthearted story about the past and the changes that need to be made to bring the Tantalarians into modern times, as well as to be ready for the oncoming flux of humans. I look forward to the next book in this series.

Bridge between story arcs

*Some spoilers* This book appears to be a bridge between two story arcs, from the Earth settlers on Mars coming to Tantalus and the changes this will bring. There were 2 issues mentioned related to the Arc Royal, along with the growing human population. We also know that matings occurred between Scribes and Guardians which will be revealed further, as this will grow the Tantalarian population in better alignment with the humans.
The primary storyline starts with the birth of Karia and Mitchel’s daughter. In helping Karia during labor, her grandmother distracts her by telling Karia about the love stories of the 3 generations before.
We learn of the loss of Alena’s Trysuil; and of the Tribunal Elders’ Filium; and the conflicts that arose when they weren’t allowed the love of their natural mates.
Alena gets a big surprise from the Phoenixes; and they actively give direction on who they want in charge going forward in the upcoming times of change.

This is a Tantalus Series Novella. Karia and Mitchel are awaiting the birth of their first child. Karia's grandmother, Alena is a scribe and to keep Karia's mind occupied, she tells Karia of her forbidden love of Trysuil and their child Erin (Karia's mother). She tells of how things turned out for them and how harsh the Elders were at that time. It's time for things to change. There is also an unexpected and awesome surprise. You have to read this one for yourselves to find out the outcome. I loved this novella and the story of Alena & Trysuil. Highly recommend you read this as well as the four other stories in this series.

I enjoyed this short story, a look into the past where the followers of the Tantalus series get more background on some of the characters. Lessons learned from the past and changes for a better future are needed, luckily the new counsel is open minded. The usual twists we come to expect from the author are there making this an enjoyable read, same as the rest of the series. - 5 stars

It was great when I read it, but listening to it told by Mr. Callanan brought it to a whole new level of enjoyment. Love the voices he gave the characters, the passion he put in his every word. Looking forward to listen to the next one. - 5 stars

Very entertaining story packed with all sorts of stuff.
Grab a drink, get comfy on the sofa, and enjoy.

It's complicated but not too hard to follow. It's about children, love, the so many flaws of "man," and all the craziness that comes with it.
I really enjoyed this novella, and thought it was written very well and loved the narration.
All around, great job.
I was entertained throughout, and have a couple more in the series in my library to get to.
Enjoy! :)

I received this audiobook free for an honest review. It was a good book, just feel that I should have listened to the previous books first in order to appreciate the series. All the names in this book gave me a headache trying to figure out who they were in relationship to the story. Although you could consider this a stand alone, it really wasn't. The narrator did a good job with the story and the characters.

Very enjoyable novella. Forbidden Contact, a Tantalus novella focused on Karia, Michael, and their daughter. We also get to learn about Kara's family's history of forbidden love. Overall, this was an amazingly written sci-fi alien romance, and I wholly enjoyed it. Brian Callanan does an incredible job with the narration, especially with distinguishing between the characters' voices.
