Henrietta O'Hara and her best friend JJ Marlborough, along with their farming families are horse mad and jumping crazy! There is Hetta’s brother Theo, who rides a cheeky black and white galloway called Quiz and Hetta’s mum who is universally known as Hots due to her flaming red hair and JJ’s father Cam, his grandfather Old Jimmy and his younger brother Hamish who is also a friend of Theo’s and they all share a passion for their horses, Spider, Kite, Betty, King Kong and YoYo. Hetta and JJ team up with a group of school friends including Savannah Williamson, Hetta’s arch enemy and school cool group leader, to help solve local mysteries while exploring the rural countryside around Wattle Park which is under threat of being subdivided into high density housing by Savannah's father which challenges the very fabric of their life.
Competition is always tough to get into the Wattle Park College show jumping team to compete in the Victorian State School Championships. But when Hetta and JJ discover their arch enemy Savannah has unexpectedly purchased an expensive new show jumper, the competition toughens up considerably! Savannah’s motive is clear but when the new horse proves himself a dangerous acquisition, Hetta and JJ know Savannah has put herself and the team's performance in jeopardy. Can Hetta and JJ rescue Savannah and save the team or will their arch enemy’s actions destroy Wattle Park’s chance of success in the Victorian State Schools Show Jumping Championship?
I love story and I love genre writing! And I love writing about indomitable women, often riding horses and carrying swords!

Team Up follows the lives of a group of young teenage show jumpers in Australia. Most of them ride because they love their horses, the thrill of jumping and being able to compete and challenge themselves. This is definitely the case for Hetta, JJ, Marcus and Theo. It could even be said of their close friends Chance and Ruby. However, Savannah’s motivations to ride appear to be from another world. Horses are all about prestige and blue ribbons.
I always love a good horse book, and this did not disappoint. I always enjoy reading horse stories set in different countries and how different the horse community can be from where I am located in the U.S. This book included adults and kids involved with horses- trainers, professional riders, judges, hobby riders and kids that have varying interests in horses- showing (jumping and flat classes) and games/Pony Club. I really like that the author touched on social media/Facebook and the way it can affect people thru posting videos or even simply clicking "like" and showing approval of possible bullying. There is so much responsibility and maturity involved with owning a cell phone and having instant access to camera and video- I have always thought that would be a tough area to navigate when you are dealing with growing up, bullying, embarassing events that feel like the end of the world (but really aren't). How someone acts, reacts and conducts themselves on social media speaks a lot for their character- and you can really see how Hetta, the main character, thinks through the consequences (even though she is not reliant on social media). But social media also proved how invaluable it can be in this story when Hetta forwards info on a stolen horse. I also really appreciate that correct horse terms were used- it really spoils a story when the reader knows better than author that equipment names are not interchangeable (halter/bridle) and what is reasonable and possible in the world of horses when the story is intended to be read as real life. This book is a great introduction to different characters that are involved in the horse community in different ways and there is still so much to learn about them (and their horses) I was definitely wondering while I was reading how some of those relationships might develop further...or not. I can't wait to read more!
The author of this book was kind enough to send me a review copy of this book. Team up is a YA Novel about a group of teenagers involved in competitive show jumping. I had so much fun reading this. It has an interesting mystery element too, which I really enjoyed, however the mystery didn't really have a definite conclusion. I found the characters to be very relatable. This book is great for younger teens, and aside from some minor language the whole thing is very clean. There were several points while reading when I found myself almost laughing out loud at the dialogue. I love the message of teamwork and doing what's right in this novel. Overall TEAM UP was such a fun ride and I am so happy I read it. 4.5 stars for me.
