I mainly like this book because by now, I have invested so much in the individual characters that I like to hear what happens next, no matter how poorly delivered. I enjoyed the twist on the Little Red Riding Hood tale, which includes the origins of the Big Bad Wolf. And I love the quirky little comments from Puck.
However, Buckley is choosing to make each successive novel more and more episodic - feeling more like the next half an hour of a television show than a real book. And I have never liked the introduction gimmick of the glimpse into the book's supposed climax. (It doesn't work for the Twilight series, and it doesn't work here.) It just gives too much away, stealing impact from the real climax, without generating any real interest at the onset.
My biggest gripe is that this installment doesn't advance the series storyline AT ALL (except perhaps for the teensy little surprise on the last page). Very little forwarding of Sabrina and Puck's relationship, no maturation of Sabrina's attitude, no bettering of the sisters' relationship, no progress against the Scarlet Hand, no sense of how they are doing in fighting against their glimpsed future - nothing. Other than highlighting some already overly-hashed-out issues with Sabrina's behavior, there is NO character development whatsoever. All in all, a disappointment to one who is genuinely fond of the series.

When I originally started the sisters Grimm series, it was because a friend had recommended them to me.
I thought, ok, so I ordered the first four books from my library, and started to read them.
In book one, it took me quite awhile to get into the book, I just wasn't feeling it at all! My friend had said they were amazing! but, nothing really amazed me at first.
When I got to the middle of the book, something clicked, and I couldn't put the book down! I devoured the rest, and grabbed book two, and devoured that one in less than a day! I was hooked!
I read all nine books collectively in about 7-8 days, I loved them!! I am giving them a four star, because they are awesome! Why not 5 stars? well, there were a few parts that I didn't really like, or think was necessary. I would recommend this book from ages 8+ I am 16 and I know that some parts were a bit young for me, but I really enjoyed them, and I was sad when I finished the last book! :)

I read this one last week and finally we get some uplift.At the end of the last book members of the Scarlet Hand had made themselves known to the Grimms. Some of them are shocking suprizes because the Grimms had thought them friends.Mr. Canis is in jail and goes on trial for his life for the murder of Red Riding Hood's grandmother. When the family finally sees him after getting Robin Hood to be his attorney we see him almost completely transformed.
Trial begins the next day and the prosecuter is the infamous murderer Bluebeard who has an eye for Snow White.Sabrina and her family visit Red in the hospital and try to get the story from her but can't make sense of what she says. Sabrina wants to get the weapon from the bank that Hamstead had given the girls the key to to combat the Wolf once the transformation is complete.Daphne wants to wait but Sabrina takes the key and with Puck's help retrieves the weapon...a kazoo. She tries it and it blows away the bank.She uses it the next day to save her Uncle from the Black Knight who has gone after Goldilocks.
They save Goldilocks but she refuses to go back with them and flees.
On the next day of trial the woodsman who killed the wolf gives testimony about how brave he was in saving Red and trying to get everyone to visit his park and buy his wares. Following him there and Puck in disguise as the Wolf they discover that the grandmother was really a witch who used the kazoo to take the savagery out of a real wolf and put it in a glass jar. She was planning on using the kazoo to take the madness out of Red who had been mad already. What really happened was that Mr. Canis was the real woodsman who tried to save Red but when the glass jar broke had the wolf essence ingulf him and in his rage he became the Wolf and killed the grandmother.
This doesn't help because the Wolf is found guilty but Robin Hood and the Merry Men set him free. A battle ensues where Bluebeard tries to kill Snow White but he is killed instead by Price Charming. Daphne uses the kazoo to take the madness out of Red and then follows Mr.Canis to where the fake woodsman is. The wolf is out and wants to kill this faker but Daphne uses the kazoo to take the essence of the Wolf out of Mr. Canis forever. Unfortunately it seeps into Sabrina until Daphne uses the kazoo again to take it out of Sabrina.
Mr. Canis, Price Charming, Snow White, and Robin Hood and the Merry Men flee into the mountain to escape from the Scarlet Hand who are enraged by the death of Bluebeard and the escape of Mr. Canis.
At the very end Goldilocks comes to the door to try to help the family wake their parents. Finally an ending with hope of happiness.

In book 6 of the Sisters Grimm books the psychotic Little Red Riding Hood (Red) is back, hence the play on words of the title. In Buckley's great world where fairytale characters are real people known as Everafters there is a town called Ferryport Landing. The Grimm family, last descendants of the fairy tale collectors Wilhelm and Jacob Grimm, are under attack from the meglomania Mayor the Queen of Hearts and her malignant sidekick the Sheriff of Nottigham, but because they cannot get rid of family they go after Mr Canis, better known as the Big Bad Wolf, and put him on trial for the murder of Red's parents. It seems an open and shut case, everyone knows the Wolf ate Red's grandmother traumatising her into psychosis. But yet again, the truth is not as simple as it seems.
I love the hardback editions of Buckley's Sisters Grimm series, they are compact little books with cloth covers, gold embossed titles and nice black and white drawings but best of all the edges of each page are rough as if they've been split apart with a ruler and have the feel of a much older book.

I can see why this was my favorite when I was a kid. The Big Bad Wolf’s trial is fascinating, if a bit frustrating, and there are some great Sabrina/Puck moments. I had forgotten what actually happened with Red Riding Hood and was discovering it along with the characters. Such a great reveal.
Of course… I want to smack Sabrina upside the head sometimes. I mean, can she just listen to her sister for once? XP (I mean, yes, her sister is a seven year old, but Daphne is no ordinary seven year old.) I do love how Sabrina is a difficult, angry, independent girl who makes a lot of mistakes but (generally) learns from them. She’s an interesting character who tries to do what is best, even if a lot of times she fails. And she keeps fighting.
Also. Bluebeard is absolutely horrible. As an adult, his advances toward Snow terrified me. It’s such a real fear.

The sisters have to crack a centuries' old case in order to save a friend's life. Mad Hatters and merry men. Reluctant witnesses and rampant rosebushes. Growing pains and Goldilocks.
I appreciate the complexity and character growth in this series. Sabrina isn't always right and she isn't always wrong, and her flaws are very much in keeping with a girl her age. I was proud of Puck for calling her out (privately, politely, but pointedly).

This one really stands out as one of the most gripping volumes in the series. Along with the both chaotic and suspenseful courtroom scenes, Sabrina faces the difficult decision of whether or not to betray Daphne to get the weapon that can stop the Wolf, Daphne attempts to be more grown up, and Puck and Sabrina become closer. The main characters show a lot of growth and change in this one. I had totally forgotten about the Goldilocks thread and enjoyed that as well. Additionally, I have noticed one or two slight suggestions as to Mirror truly is in this and the previous book.
Amid all the danger and uncertainty in the stories, these books still manage to make me feel cozy and warm.

Buckley turned an uninteresting story (I will never understand why it's so famous) into a complex, intriguing one. Symbolically, Canis is the most compelling character to me in the series. We all struggle with a "monster" of darkness inside of us. It is always lurking beneath the surface ready to take over. I know I have a monster like the Wolf inside me!

Another excellent book in an excellent series. While this book didn't really help us learn much more about The Scarlet Hand, the revelations about how The Big Bad Wolf came to be were really great. And the ending . . . Will Dad finally wake up when Goldie kisses him?

Heh. Well, that was interesting. I hope Sabrina has learned a few lessons - but then again, she's as hard-headed as Puck, so it'll probably take more time. Unfortunately, it doesn't make her very likable, even when her heart has been in the right place.

I like Mr. Canis but I also mostly agree with Sabrina, I'm always agreeing with Sabrina (even when she does stupid stuff). The situation with the town is getting very frustrating but I'm glad to see that not bringing down our characters. Puck is still the best and Daphne is still annoying.

Loved seeing so much growth and character development for all the kids in this book and the Puckabrina moments truly had me kicking my feet and giggling! But Bluebeard is actually way more chilling to read about as an adult; what a creep.

The sixth entry into the Sisters Grimm series feels less like a standalone novel and more an excerpt from a larger book (even more so than Magic and Other Misdemeanors). This series is starting to feel more and more like a chain of barely connected adventures, almost like a ’90s sitcom, where the world mostly resets at the end of every episode. Even the end, which featured another cliffhanger, felt like ‘eh’ because, well, that’s all the series is at this point: one cliffhanger after another. It’s a book for the ADD generation, I guess?
Whenever I read books intended for children, I always ask myself: what would I have thought of this book when I was the intended age group? I’m torn about this one. I definitely wouldn’t have cared about the technical details of the writing, but I think the constant action would have gotten boring for me. Even as a kid, I liked a story with an arc and varying levels of tension.
I think what most frustrated me is that Mr. Buckley did a great job of building to a really fascinating cliffhanger in the previous book, but that’s entirely thrown out here. I’m committed to finishing the series at this point, but I’m so disappointed that such a promising series has fallen so far. Quasi-recommended.

In the thrilling twisted fairytale "Tales From the Hood" by Michael Buckley Sabrina and her family fight to save their dear family friend, Mr. Canis. When the dangerous Scarlet Hand takes over and arrests Mr. Canis, it is up to the Grimms to save him from hanging from a noose. Bluebeard however, will not let this happen nor will Mayor Heart. Mayor Heart wants Mr. Canis locked up for crimes he was accused of that happened years ago... when Mr. Canis turned into the Big Bad Wolf. Yes, the Big Bad Wolf you know from Little Red Riding Hood. After Canis ate the grandma it caused a loss to a family and a little girl in a red cape to go insane. After the Grimms find Mr. Canis though, he is in his true form and Sabrina somehow gets tangled in this big bad mess. While Mr. Canis is struggling to keep himself away from the monsterous beast, the Grimms are trying to get him out of jail. Read this wonder-filling fantasy while you kick your feet up and relax.

I think it's sad how Mr. Canis has the wolf inside of him. And he starts to lose control of the wolf and starts becoming more and more like the wolf, but they find out how to take the wolf outside of him. They are really surprised about this because the wolf can come out of him with a kazoo. but it works.

Once again I am using the Sisters Grimm as a palate cleanser between heavier reading and they come through for me again. This one didn't move the storyline along as much as I had hoped, but it gave me enough answers to want to keep reading the series.

One of the most interesting things about this series is Sabrina’s gradual character development/struggles with character development.
Also got some interesting (and kinda freaky) lore in this one.
I’ve never been sure how I feel about Puck in this series.

After learning that most of Ferryport Landing has joined the Scarlet Hand, the Grimms and their few remaining allies have only days to save Mr. Canis from sharing the fate of the Big Bad Wolf in a trial where everyone - and every fact - seems against them. Buckley offers fan a more episodic tale, one brimming with mystery and twists that are sure to have young readers enthralled; a bit heavy on the potty humour but delivering a decent wrap-up and cliffhanger. How can Sabrina, Daphne and their loved ones win the faith of a jury so turned against them?

Well, this one was the usual disappointment, while not as much as the first three unuseful installments - ludicrous, superficial, flat, absurd, plotholey, demented, stupid... - until that last page, which made me rethink about my by now definitely dead hopes for this series (or at least once more the ending of this books makes me interested in the next one). A delightful conclusion and a fantastic way to be awaken in the middle of the night (one of the very few).

This book focuses mainly on the trial against the Big Bad Wolf. We also get to see more of what Ferryport Landing us like with Mayor Heart in control and humans gone.

Gah. It's one step forward, two steps back with Sabrina. Also, it's such a shock to find out this girl is only 11. I liked Red Riding Hood's story, but I didn't like the casual way her mental illness is described. I'll finish this series but it is frustrating when the characters have constant conflict but fail to really learn anything from it.
