I can't help be amazed at the gifts God has delighted me with - a wonderful husband, four amazing children, and the opportunity to write for Him.

I've been writing as long as I can remember - I won my first book writing contest in first grade! Over the years, writing has become, for me, a way to praise God and see Him at work in my life.

Although I have a degree in Mass Communications from the University of MN, my real writing experience started when I penned the The Warren Report - a bi-monthly newsletter that detailed our ministry highlights.

Living in Russia meant I never lacked for great material - and those experiences naturally spilled out first into devotionals and magazine articles and finally into my first published story, "Measure of a Man," in the Tyndale/HeartQuest, Chance Encounters of the Heart anthology.

Susan and husbandI grew up in Wayzata, a suburb of Minneapolis, and became an avid camper from an early age. My favorite fir-lined spot is the north shore of Minnesota - it's where I met my husband, honeymooned and dreamed of living. The north woods easily became the foundation for my first series, The Deep Haven series.based on a little tourist town along the shores of Lake Superior. I have to admit - I'm terribly jealous of Mona, the heroine of my first full-length book, Happily Ever After, a Christy Award Finalist published in 2004 with Tyndale/Heartquest.

Our family moved home from the mission field in June 2004 -- and now we live in the beautiful town I'd always dreamed of! God has amazed me anew with His provision, and blessings -- and allowed me a season when I can write full time for Him.

I 'm delighted you've stopped in to visit. My hope is that you'll be blessed and encouraged by soul-stirring stories of regular people interacting with a God who loves them.

I'd love to hear from you! I love getting mail, especially from readers and I welcome your questions and comments. Write to me at susan@susanmaywarren.com. And, if you're interested, sign up for my newsletter, a quarterly sneak peek into upcoming releases and projects. Thank you for your interest and support.

God Bless and Happy Reading!

I am sort of obsessed with this new series, Montana Rescue, by this author. I didn't realize she had a novella coming out within this series and when I found out, I was on a mission to find it ASAP so I could read it. This novella is originally part of the Targeted For Danger anthology which consists of eight different novellas by eight different authors. I picked it up there because was only $.99 cents for the whole anthology versus $3.99 for this book as a stand alone. :) Now I have lots of other books to read as well. Eventually. . .

I loved this novella. It was packed with tension and danger. The backstory comes out slowly with bits of information about the characters in flashback form. I couldn't put it down.

For a novella, there was lot of action, suspense and emotional growth for the characters.

What I like amount this author's books is that apart from the action/suspense which I love, the author is great at throwing characters through emotional ups and downs and imparting spiritual wisdom through people in their lives.

Even though this is part of the Montana rescue series, it could be read as a standalone and I think it should actually have followed between book 3 and 4, not 4 and 5 of the series.

Crossfire is another exciting and tense addition to the Montana Rescue series. This thrilling novella is Kade's story, Ian's ranch foreman.

When Kade returns to his hometown he knows it is time to face the hidden secrets and buried hurts of his past. This novella seamlessly combines heartbreaking romance with plenty of suspense, faith and second chances.

Readers who are new to the Montana Rescue series would be able to read this novella outside of the complete series as it follows its own set of characters and has a complete storyline. For those of us who love the series, it is a thrilling companion title with crossover characters and a fantastic addition to the series. It just makes me want the next book even more, though!

Wow! Even though this is a novella, it is packed with a powerful backstory, a believable love story, and a good dose of danger! It was the wonderful blend of these three things that kept me reading anxiously to see how everything would turn out.

I really liked the two main characters, Kade and Haddie. They had a complicated past of unrequited love and lost chances. This story is connected to the Montana Rescue series because there are a couple of characters from that series who show up in this book. However, it can be read as a stand alone story if you have not read the other series. I read this novella as part of the Targeted for Danger collection and thoroughly enjoyed it.

"Maybe that's what love was, showing up to stand in the gap, the crossfire, even when that love wasn't returned."

Kade Logan, Haddie Brown and Nash McRae were inseparable for years, until Kade unleashed Nash's unfaithfulness on the eve of Haddie's wedding. It has been a long time, but the three are ironically back where it all begin; Dawson, Montana.

Haddie Brown is back in Dawson to do one thing; sell her grandfather's beautiful home and then travel to Minneapolis to accept a nursing position in a state of the art medical facility. When Kade Logan shows up at the small Dawson hospital asking for her help, she is not only shocked that he is in town, but that it is actually Nash McRae who needs immediate medical attention. An article in a local newspaper, highlighting Nash's recent heroics, has allowed an incident from the past to put the two men back in an unwanted spotlight, and unfortunately they have manged to pull Haddie into the crossfire with them.

Packed with high energy and romance, "Crossfire" still manages to deliver a generous amount of deep spiritual insight, softening the rough edges of regret with tenderness and grace, for "sometimes you just have to follow your heart and trust God to rescue you."

How did I miss this book? I love Ms Warren's books and heard a interview with her about her new series and she mentioned this novella between books 3 and 4. I, of course, went and bought it. Of course.

At first I wasn't sure what to think of Haddie and Kade. But since Susan May Warren wrote it, I knew I'd like it - and I did. It was an exciting page turner and I couldn't put it down. I was at the edge of my seat with the desperate search for Nash's wife and child and even more so as the situation went from bad to worse. And then from worse to beyond terrible. And from terrible to ..... well, you have to read the book. Will they save Nash's wife? Will they save themselves?

Oh and the faith message, She is my favorite author for that reason alone. So strong, so poignant. So challenging. Grab a copy of your own today.

I am a verified buyer. No review was required. All opinions are my own.

Somehow, Susan May Warren manages to pack a ton of story into just a few pages. Drama, action, and romance all play out in this short novella. Longer review to come.

Loved reading about Kade and Haddie. In true Susan May Warren fashion, the novella is packed with fast-paced action, sweet romance, great spiritual truths, and twists and turns in the plot that will have you gasping. Kade’s steadfast presence and love, Haddie’s triumph over shame and guilt, and Nash’s beautiful redemption made this novella a gem.

It’s been a while since I’ve read the Montana Rescue series so it was really nice to see Pete and Ian again. Now I’ll have to re-read the series!

This is a novella and the authors website says it’s 3.5. I started book 4 tonight as well and I’m glad I followed the author’s website because it refers back to the novella in book 4. Goodreads says it’s book 4.5. Read it after book 3!

I really enjoyed Crossfire by Susan May Warren. I read it as part of the Targeted for Danger boxed set. I loved Kade and Haddie's history. I can't wait to read the rest of the Montana Rescue series. I highly recommend Crossfire.

Crossfire

Susan May Warren does it again! In this novella, she brings life to new and previous characters, intertwining their lives with more danger, faith, and love!

Although a short novella where it doesn't have the same backdrop of built history and community, Warren tells a deep and rich story about two characters that have had miscommunications ever since they met. Add life threatening attacks, explosions, suffocation, and prayer and you've got yourself a Susan May Warren story!

Somewhere between a three and a four for me because as much as I love it, it is missing a little of the depth I usually find. I felt a little more distanced from the characters.

With that being said. PETE BROOKS IS IN THIS ONE. As he has been in all of the ones I've read this year. And I'm basically obsessed with him, completely In love, and madly awaiting his chapter (hopefully almost definitely with Jess, as she's who he pined for here).

I'm curious as to what happens in book 4, as it still hasn't been released but this is book 4.5...

This is is a great novella. I read it as part of the Targeted for Murder set that I purchased from Amazon. This is the first story in the set and it was a great beginning. I loved the suspense and not able to put the Kindle down. I fell in love with the characters who seemed so real. The Inspirational thread was also wonderful. I am wanting to read more from this author.

About the Book:
Crossfire is a novella between book #3 and book #4 in Warren’s Montana Rescue series. Readers are given the background story of Kade Logan, foreman of billionaire Ian Shaw’s ranch. After his mother has an accident, Kade rushes home presumably to care for her only to find that she is more than capable of taking care of herself. His return home, however, reunites him with his former best friend, Nash, and the woman he’s never quite gotten over- Haddie. When Nash and Kade’s raucous past catches up with them placing them and their families in the crosshairs of a local crime ring, the two friends mend fences and try to right past wrongs. Meanwhile, Kade and Haddie rediscover their feelings for one another and seek to move beyond past mistakes to possibly build a future together.

My Thoughts:
As per Warren’s usual style, Crossfire is packed with explosive action and tense interactions between characters making this novella pack a mean punch. Overall, I enjoyed delving into Kade’s story and seeing broken relationships mended. The revelation of Nash’s past lack of character and his transformation after becoming a Christian deserves special kudos. Also enjoyed seeing cameos of two of Warren’s beloved characters from other installments of the series. My only complaint was an occasional annoyance with both Kade and Haddie as their romance unfolded. At times both seemed incredibly insecure and just a tad bit whiny usually caused by both of their tendencies to jump to assumptions instead of clearly communicating with each other. I will be interested to see how some of the decisions made in this book translate to changes in future books in the series.

This review contains my own thoughts and opinions. I have not been compensated by the publisher or author in any way.

Another Great Book

Wow, Susan May Warren has done it again! This is another fantastic book in the Montana Rescue series. I loved getting to know Kade and Haddie. In this story we hear of the struggles these two were dealing with for most of their lives. Struggles many of us deal with like, self worth and the need to know God's grace is sufficient.
Susan May Warren is a wonderful gifted author. She has a deeply touching way of bringing us into these stories and making them come to life. Throughout this book there were times I truly didn't want to put it down. I kept reading and reading, because I wanted to know how it was going to end. I actually read this book in one day and now I can't wait to read the next book.
I highly recommended you pick this book up and sit down to read it, but be warned...... You might not want or be able to put it down once you start!

Many of Susie May Warren's books have same mannerisms - same hero with different names - I won't read a series all consecutively again - it's good the books do not come out in rapid succession.

Too bad - she's got some great plots and romance is good too!

Seven years have passed since ranch foreman Kade Logan left Dawson, Montana and the woman he loved, Haddie Brown. A dark secret made him swear never to return to eastern Montana country. Action-packed and rich in character. Tension filled the pages. I loved this read. Clean and full of inspiration. Kade's story was interesting, contrasting his past life and his new life as a Christian. Add Haddie and an explosive relationship happens. In more than one way. Great read. I loved it. Loved the spiritual transformation.

"Crossfire" is a Christian romantic suspense short story. Kade returns home only to find that the past has caught up with him. He and his best friend had witnessed a murder when they were young men, but they did not report it. The man who did the murder is willing to go to extremes to kill the witnesses now that they're back in town. Haddie, the girl who dated one best friend while secretly loving the other, is also now back in town. They have to survive while trying to stop the murderer and while slowly clearing up all the confusion and misunderstandings from their romantic past.

The characters acted realistically and were likable. Both Haddie and Kade had to learn to forgive themselves for past mistakes. There was no sex scenes or bad language. Overall, it was an enjoyable and suspenseful short story.

Just a friendly note, this novella should be #3.5 in the series instead of 4.5...Book 4 in the Montana Rescue series takes place after the events in this novella...

I enjoyed getting to know Kade and learning a little bit more about his backstory. I also really enjoyed meeting Haddie and Nash.

The whole time I was reading this story, I felt like I was reading an old time western. The lack of hospital supplies, the men traveling for work in the oil mines...it seems like such a distant, historical time. So when there were reminders of this being modern times (like someone pulling out a cell phone) it was almost an unwanted reminder, in my opinion.

Overall, though, I still enjoyed this novella and the background pieces it added to the Montana Rescue series as a whole!

I absolutely LOVED this book --- right up to the end! I would have given the book a 5 star rating had there been a happily-ever-after ending or an epilogue. But it just --- ended! Perhaps it will be continued in the next book. Next noveal. How long do we have to wait? That's my major complaint about this series. I feel as if I'm being held hostage, forced to buy the next book to get to the happily-ever-after of the last book.

Susan May Warren is one of my favorite authors, so I was really excited for Crossfire. It was great! There was lots of intrigue, suspense, and danger. There were also appearances from some favorites from the Montana Rescue Series. (Loved that!) It did take me a chapter or two to get into, but it wasn't long before I couldn't read it fast enough. All in all, another great one from Susan May Warren. (I read this novella as part of the Targeted for Danger Collection)

I didn't realize until after I was nearly half-way through this novella that I was, in fact, reading it out of series order. I had recently ordered book #4, but while awaiting its arrival by mail I saw this one and began it immediately (the benefit of e-books - no waiting on the post). Despite my jumping ahead, it was easy to get drawn into this story and to connect with the characters. Another great addition to this series.

At first I was feeling like this book didn’t fit at well in the Montana Rescue series, but it does end up connecting more and filling in some stuff. That aside, this was still a great novella full of second chances and some suspense, faith and family. It’s the last one I had yet to read from the entire series, and I would recommend reading it where it’s placed in the book order for full effect. :)

Not my favorite Montana Rescue story, (and that may be because I don't like love triangles), but this one sets the stage for other Montana Rescue characters to have their story. Plenty of non-stop action, forgiveness, and a happily ever after. I read this novella in the Targeted for Danger romantic suspense book set.

Another great story by this amazing author.

Love torn apart, bullets flying, tunnels collapsing, backs being watched. Just another Susan May Warren adventure. :) A quick read that answers the question what is a certain former PEAK member up to, a glimpse of what Ian Shaw is doing also. Montana Rescue!!! If you like good stories, you will enjoy this one!

So good! I've liked Kade ever since his first appearance, but Haddie is such a great partner for him. I can't get enough of childhood love reborn, and boy howdy this was perfect. I must admit though, as much as I loved their story, Pete's brief appearance really roped me in. Full of intrigue and excitement, Crossfire is sure to capture your attention and a little piece of your heart, too.

This was a fantastic Contemporary Christian fiction book in the series. The story was believable and the characters were heartwarming. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series! I was able to read a copy of this book via Hoopla Audio, but it did not in any way affect my review. All opinions are my own.
