Bestselling author Staci Hart brings you an addictive romantic mythology series where love is the ultimate game, and Aphrodite always wins.

I never wanted to leave her. But I had no choice.

I’ve spent the last three years raising my daughter and wishing for things I couldn’t have. When I came back to New York, I thought I could find my way back to her. But that path was lost, grown over and hidden from everyone, especially me.

Her obsession over her best friend’s death is dangerous, and the man she’s after could put her life at stake. She’ll never let it go, not until he’s behind bars or dead.

She just doesn’t realize it might not be him who pays in the end.

If only she’d let me help her. If only she’d let me in. When she sets her mind to something, that’s it. But there’s an exception to every rule, and I plan to be the exception to this one.

And I’ll protect her until my very last breath, whether she wants me or not.

I was the kid who stayed inside to read.

As a four-eyed nerd with a bad perm, I was no one’s dodgeball pick, but I had a lot of friends. Frodo and Bilbo, for instance. Kristy, Stacey, Claudia and the gang (iykyk). Once, in the third grade, I wrote a teen murder mystery inspired by Christopher Pike. On solving my mystery in twelve pages, I decided I was a terrible writer and should never, ever do that again.

Fortunately, I didn’t take my own advice.

I write romance for that feeling you get at the end, like you’re standing on top of a mountain with a backpack full of hundred dollar bills. I write romcoms because is there anything better than banter and grand gestures? I write because I love to create and I love words. I love books, and I love stretching my imagination. I love love, and if you do too, bring your coffee and have a seat. I think we’re gonna be friends.

I’ve never come across such beautiful writing until I started reading Staci Hart’s work. She has this ease and innocence with her writing that absolutely blows everyone else out of the water. Her writing is always backed up with the most amazing and complex characters and unique and refreshing storylines. There is absolutely no one I can compare to this woman. She is as unique as her writing style, and the minute a new book from her pops up on my iPad, everything else ceases to exist. Staci Hart has quickly become one of my all time favorite romance authors and she solidifies that spot with every story she introduces me to. If you haven’t read any of her work, you are missing out. It’s a romance staple, and you MUST treat yourself immediately!

“How do you find happiness after so much hurt?"

"It’ll find you when the time is right.”

FROM DARKNESS is book #3 in Ms. Hart’s Hearts and Arrows Series. This series must be read in order to completely understand the ongoing plot. This is not your typical romance, as fans of the series will wholeheartedly agree. This is a beautiful romance with greek mythology weaved all throughout the book. It’s intricate layers is what makes this book and this series a MUST READ! There is always a story within a story - one involving Aphrodite and the rest of the greek gods, as well as, the mortal pairs they choose to play their little game. There is always some connection between the gods and the humans and it’s so entertaining to realize these little similarities that are woven so beautifully throughout the book.

"I can’t give you something I don’t have."

”Then, I won’t ask anything of you but to love me.”

From Darkness brings us the next players in Aphrodite’s game of love - Aphrodite vs. Artemis. The players they bring to the table are Josie Campbell and Jon Landreaux. This starts the second-chance love story of a lifetime. This game also brings to light the heartbreaking story of Artemis and her only love, AND the struggle that Aphrodite ‘Dita’ still faces when it comes to a certain god of war. And that’s all I can say about that. The rest, well, you will have the pleasure of discovering once you pick up this book!

Anything by Staci Hart is a MUST READ ROMANCE, but there is something about the playfulness of this series that gets me right in the heart and it won’t let me go. I’m so excited for the continuation of this series and to immerse myself once again, into this beautiful and magical world.

From Darkness is the third book in the Hearts & Arrows Series and omg it was amazing.I loved every part of this story. The storyline is brilliant and the characters lovable .I was intrigued from the first pages and I couldn't put it down.

Josie and Jon were the most amazing characters!I loved them so hard.Jon is the sweetest and Josie the strongest heroine. From Darkness is a story about love, forgiveness and redemption

I loved that this story was dark and so intense. I do not want to say much without spoiling it, but this may be one of my all time favorite from Stacie so far. This is a must read!I highly recommend it to everyone.

Please note: This is book three in the "Hearts & Arrows" series and I recommend reading Paper Fools and Shift first!

From Darkness is the third and final book in Staci Hart's "Hearts & Arrows" series and I procrastinated reading it for six months. If you've read my review of Shift, the second book in this series, then you know that I didn't like it. Although I was really intrigued by the blurb of From Darkness, I just couldn't get myself to pick it up. I was too afraid to DNF it because I almost DNF Shift. Nonetheless, I overcame my fear and finally picked it up. And honestly? I thought it was the best book in the entire series.
Formerly known as Doe Eyes, Staci Hart has completely rewritten and re-edited this story and re-released it under a new cover and new name: From Darkness.

The blurb promised a lot of drama, deep feelings and a great second chance novel and I got all of that. Obviously I sided with Josie from the start because how could Jon just leave her like that? It's so cruel! But after learning Jon's side of the story I changed my mind completely. He was not the villain in this story, neither was Josie. Him taking off and leaving Josie, hurting her deeply was not intentional, in fact it was bad timing, bad luck and even worse circumstances. Jon still loved Josie and he made it clear to her from the day he arrived back in New York.

"You can tell me all day day long that you hate me, but you care. I know you do, and I'm gonna prove to you that I'm worth it. If you ever find a way to trust me with your heart again, I promise you, I will take care of it. I swear I will, and I don't care how long it takes to convince you."

And it took Jon a long time to convince her. So long that I was really annoyed with Josie in the end. Still, I felt for Josie and her situation. Being left and hurt by the love of her life and then being left by her best friend through this terrible murder is more than anyone could take, I get why she guarded her heart.
Building Jon and Josie's story around a unsolved murder case was intriguing. I really loved this part of the story because it made it more exciting and dangerous.

A "Hearts & Arrows" book is not a "Hearts & Arrows" book without Aphrodite and her game of love. This time Aphrodite played against Artemis who wasn't too fond of her opponent.
I really like the Greek mythology part in this series because it is a fun and interesting way to learn about the Greek Goddesses and Gods. However, this time I was a little bored with it. Unfortunately, I didn't care too much about Aphrodite, her love life and her situation in general. She was too whiny and it got old really quick. Nonetheless, I was happy for her in the end. She has changed a lot over the past three books. She had a huge boost in self-confidence and self-growth and I was happy to see her like that in the end.

I wished Jon and Josie's story wouldn't have been tied to the Greek mythology part because their story has a lot more potential than what we were given by Staci Hart. I think that their story could've been even better alone and with more scenes. In my opinion, the Greek mythology part only interrupted from a great reading experience that was Jon and Josie's story which is why I'm giving From Darkness 3.5 stars.

From Darkness by Staci Hart is an intricate and multifaceted layered romance that was brimming with all the feels. In this third installment, Staci continues to mesmerize and lure me with her heartfelt, passion, and intense prose. In this story, Staci relays the important message of redemption, forgiveness, healing and love. The human counterparts in this story played a major factor as to why I was hooked with this book. Don’t get me wrong the Greek mythology insertion was great, but there was something about Jon and Josie’s story that touched a piece of your soul.

#FromDarkness

So if you are looking for a romance that was utter perfection and gripping, then I highly recommend you to read this book and series. In fact any Staci Hart book will do.

4 Love Hurts CROWNS

From Darkness by Staci Har is my favorite Hearts and Arrows book yet. Unlike the previous two books, Ms.Hart truly examines the affects of lost love and how it alters us forever, and I found myself moved by not only the story of Josie and Jon but also Artemis and Aphrodite.

As with the previous books, From Darkness focuses on the gods, particularly one of the Olympians against Aphrodite in the game of love. This book in particular focuses on lost love. Jon and Jo were once a couple, but for circumstances beyond their control, they are forced to separate. Her hatred of him and his love of her make them the perfect chess pieces for Artemis and Aphrodite. Of the three couples in this series, though, Jon and Jo are the most entertaining, not only because of their romance but also the added suspenseful element as it relates to their profession.

The secondary plot-line, the one that has spanned all three novels focuses on Aphrodite and the fall out from her love of Adonis, her infringement on the relationship of Apollo, and her continuous affair with Ares. Throughout this nove,l though, Aphrodite gains some serious introspection, and with the help of Artemis, learns some truths about herself and about love. She begins to make ammends and heal, and for the first time, I really enjoyed Aphrodite as a heroine of the story.

Mythology lovers, From Darkness, the whole series, actually, is for you. I personally love the way Staci Hart has updated the gods while also staying true to the essence of who they are as well as the allusions to their myths. It brings together two worlds I absolutely love.

4.5 “Rock-Paper-Scissors” stars

After everything that happened at the end of the second book, Shift, Aphrodite is devastated and in a bad place as she treks through uncharted territory. If she could avoid going back to Olympus she would but it’s time for another competition so she is forced to meet her problems head on.
She couldn’t hide any longer, couldn’t avoid turning the page, and she didn’t like what she knew was coming…
Everything had changed, and there was no going back. And in that, she found she was lost.
Even worse, she was afraid.

It’s game time and Aphrodite is competing against Artemis, the Goddess of Hunt. Aphrodite and Artemis have much in common, having both lost their loves, bringing them nothing but pain. However, where Aphrodite thinks love is a driving force in the universe, Artemis now thinks it’s useless. This will definitely be an incredible game as Aphrodite shows Artemis just how powerful love can be, especially when Josie and Jon are chosen as the players.

Josie is a private investigator who goes after bail jumpers. Closing in on her latest mark, she finally catches up with him only to be met by Jon, another PI with whom she shares a heartbreaking history. Jon’s mistakes in the past have created nothing but pain and Josie wants nothing to do with him, her hurt still very much alive. But Jon will do anything to get her back and has his work cut out for him.
She had changed, closed herself off, and he didn’t believe it was just him she’d locked out. She had been hurt, and that hurt had hardened her to the point that the woman he had known was almost gone completely.

From Darkness is a second-chance romance that is darker and more intense than the previous books and the emotion, romance, suspense, and action keep you flipping pages. I love this series and Staci Hart’s ability to seamlessly combine two stories into one. Though this book can technically be read as a standalone because it is about a different human couple, the gods are the same and it’s exciting to follow their lives from book to book as the gods' story continues.

The mythological side of things was entertaining and we get more of what Aphrodite was going through as well as Artemis’ backstory. The book was well written and the story stays true to the characters. Aphrodite believed in love no matter how much heartache she experienced and her strength shone through. I loved how relatable Aphrodite was with her human emotions, yet she still had her godly powers. I also thought the character growth Aphrodite and Artemis go through was well-developed. The command Aphrodite held when she voiced her opinions, especially at the end, was awesome and I loved when she realized exactly what she needed to do. Artemis had to work through thousands of years of emotion and seeing her experience her revelation was satisfying.

As with the other books, the gods play a huge role in the competition and I enjoyed watching them manipulate the game and the effect their actions had on the humans. The human’s side of this story may actually be my favorite of the series. Josie and Jon are well-crafted, complicated characters who face difficult decisions that ultimately ruin everything good between them. I was fully invested in their lives and rooting for their HEA.
"How do you find happiness after so much hurt?"

"It'll find you when the time is right."

Josie was utterly heartbroken when Jon left her. Her devastation was palpable and I felt the conflicting emotions when he re-entered her life. Her anger, pain, was tangible, and I my heart ached for her.

She was strong, albeit stubborn, and I connected with her on an emotional level, understanding and feeling what she went through. I wanted nothing more than her to find peace and move on from the pain.

Jon was wonderful. He made a huge mistake with Josie, and though I think he definitely could have handled the situation a million times better, he did what he thought was best. I felt his regret deep in his soul, and even though I didn’t necessarily agree with all of his actions, I forgave him when I understood the reasons for his choices.

As Josie and Jon spend more time together, they slowly they fall back into the easy bantering and teasing they once shared but there is still a huge wall between them. I loved watching Jon fight for Josie, his determination never wavering.
“I know you. You can tell me all day long that you hate me, but you care. I know you do, and I’m gonna prove to you that I’m worth it. If you ever find a way to trust me with your heart again, I promise you, I will take care of it. I swear I will, and I don’t care how long it takes to convince you.”

They shared a connection that couldn’t be severed no matter how much pain they suffered and you could feel it’s strength whenever they were together, one character fighting it and the other savoring it. The sexual tension crackled between them and it only grew the more they deny it.
She was a burning match, and he was gasoline, and when one touched the other, everything would be devoured until all that was left was ash.

This book has less sexy time than the others but it is no less fulfilling when they finally come together after so long. It was sensual and fierce and gorgeous. It was perfect.
There were no more questions. There was no wondering. There was only the two of them, their broken hearts mending with every beat, every breath.

The mystery side of the story is intense and suspenseful. There was a killer on the loose and it was exciting and thrilling to watch the chase.  There were some nail biting scenes and my heart raced and in the end I loved the way things played out.

I have to give a shout out to Heff. He is amazing, swoony, and a total sweetheart, and I want him to have all the happiness in the world! I am still rooting for his HEA!!

Overall, From Darkness is an amazing addition to the Hearts & Arrows series and I want more! I loved it!

I'm still wickedly in love with the idea of the gods playing with human lives to liven up their own. We've seen Dita triumph in past contests while paying a heavy price in her own love life. For all that she can come across as shallow and flighty at times, she makes some hard decisions that cost her dearly. I respect that.

Fresh off her own heartbreak, Aphrodite has to put her player on the road to love while trying to outmaneuver Artemis. Honestly, Dita's a mess. She makes some bad choices of her own this time around and her distraction puts her players on shaky ground.

I LOVE the relationship between Dita and Perry. Perry is SO there for Dita. She's Dita's rock and her sounding board. And when Dita stumbles, Perry's the one who has to give her the slap to the face she needs to get back on track. Not going to lie, the creative names they call Ares gave me a serious case of the giggles.

You have to respect a friend who has your back to completely. *thumbs up*

And Heff. The poor guy breaks my heart. I want him to find his happiness. I just... *weeps* Oh, Heff. The guy slays me. #TeamHeff ALL THE WAY!

Fun and fast-paced with a nice mystery and a couple who have A LOT of baggage to get past. Staci Hart doesn't disappoint and I can't wait to see what's in store for Dita and her crew next.

”He hurt you, she told herself. He left you, she pleaded with her heart. He chose her, was the only thought that made a dent, and she found her resolve as she drove away.”

This series is 100% just BLOWING me away. I can’t. I seriously CAN NOT. Staci Hart has created a world that proves love is the single most ultimate ruler of everything. Love ALWAYS wins, and this series drives that fact home extremely well.

This series has single handedly become an all time favorite of mine.

From Darkness was just a rollercoaster from start to finish. These characters have been through SO much pain and strife and to watch their journey on coming back from that was just AHHMAZING!

The passion, whether it was coming from the gods themselves or the characters, helped make what this book is tremendously. I can’t say too much without giving everything away but a single dad misunderstood and a fierce woman who refuses to back down until justice has been served? Yeah, EVERYONE needs to read this book.

From Darkness by Staci Hart is heart pounding, breathtaking BRILLIANCE.

I don't know how Staci continues to dazzle and shine through her words, but she does. She puts pen to paper, or fingers to keys and MAGIC happens. I am in awe at how Staci can take a concept, like in the Hearts and Arrows series, and give it so much life and meaning, so much intensity and heart..
. From beginning to end Staci stole mine.

From Darkness is by far my fave of the H&A series. The depth of the story and the power of the words are incredible. My emotions were ALL OVER, I had such an intense reaction to this book where I felt EVERYTHING! My heart hurt, splintered, tears streamed, my soul ached. I was most definitely all in. Staci knocked my socks off with this novel.

5 "Gods, I love this series" Stars!!!

'From Darkness' is the third book in the Hearts and Arrows series. And let me tell you, this is my FAVORITE in the series!!! I absolutely loved the storyline and how it was so seamlessly woven between the human and Gods world. And I can't get enough of the characters, they're all just so interesting. And I still love how the Gods play with human lives. What a wickedly awesome game they play.

In this round, Aphrodite's opponent is Artemis. Once again they each choose a human player to pit against each other. Dita is confident she'll be the victor once again. Because let's face it, she never loses. And of course being the goddess of love, love always wins in the end, right?

Jon and Josie have history. Messy and unresolved history. An unexpected surprise has Jon having to leave town and unable to say goodbye to Josie. Josie is hurt and heartbroken when she finds out the reason why Jon abruptly left and ultimately leaving her. Three years have passed and has Jon returning to the place where the woman he left holds all the cards.

Josie has so many questions. Questions she needs answers to, but at the same time doesn't want to know. Because in knowing the truth, it'll only make her hurt more. So much has happened since Jon has been gone. Josie's life has been turned upside down. On top of Jon leaving, something happens that has broken her. Taken the light out of her eyes. Has made her hard and unapologetic. Josie is seeking the truth, which in doing so puts her in grave danger. But she doesn't care because she'll do anything to get justice.

Dita is a mess. Trying to deal with her own heartbreak, her head really isn't in the game. It has her putting her player (Jon) in danger. Giving Artemis the advantage she needs. But, Artemis makes questionable decisions as well. Because in wanting to win and of course doing anything to come out victorious against Dita, she too puts her player (Josie) in danger.

So, who will win? Will Dita finally be dethroned? Is there a way for Jon and Josie to be happy? Will Artemis be the first to win against Dita? Can the goddess of love weave her magic on Jon and Josie? Can Josie forgive Jon? Will there be a happy ending? Who knows? Read the book and find out.

One more thing. Heff is too good for Dita. All he wants is for her to love him. I feel like she strings him along. She knows how he feels, so why the heck does she keep going back to him? Go find comfort somewhere else! Let him try to be happy, I mean, don't you want that for him? I just hope he finds someone that truly appreciates him, he deserves it.

Staci never disappoints! I find her storytelling to be captivating. I love how it sucks you in and doesn't want you to let go. I've become so lost in this world of the Gods. I can't wait to see what's in store for Dita and the Gods.

“How do you find happiness after so much hurt?”

“She didn’t know how to want, how to give, how to love or how she could live up to anyone’s expectations. She hadn’t known how to answer him. She couldn’t say the words she he wanted to hear because she didn’t know if they were true.”

“There were no more questions. There was no more wondering. There was only the two of them, their broken hearts mending with every beat, every breath.”

“She’d been a fool to deny him. But she’d never deny him another thing. Not as long as he loved her.”

When it comes to storytelling, Staci Hart always keeps me on my toes. From dark and intense to second chance romances that burrow into you heart. To stories that make you feel EVERTHING. There is absolutely nothing that Staci Hart can write, that I won’t pick up.

From Darkness is the third book in the Hearts & Arrows Series and follows the story of Jon and Josie. From the moment I got my hands on this book, I was beyond intrigued. I mean, mythology with a bit of a modern twist? You can totally count me in! And what I got was a brilliantly written and spellbinding story. The plot is clever and creative. It is unique and will keep you on your toes.

From Darkness is dark, intense and mysterious. At the same time it is captivating and heartbreaking. Our lead characters have been hurt deeply. Decisions have been made and a ton of baggage is left behind. That being said, our characters are strong and determined. Jon will do anything to get Josie to look at him again; to get that love back that they once shared. And Josie…She wants nothing more than to have Jon in her arms, but the pain of the past is real and deep. She has a lot to overcome and a lot to move past. But, believe me when I tell you, the connection and passion between Jon and Josie is strong, it is intense and it is totally undeniable. This couple is one that I could not help but root for…

But, that’s not all there is to From Darkness. Nope, From Darkness also has the mythology presence. And I gotta tell you, what Staci Hart does with mythology is something I’ve never seen before. She somehow incorporates the two into one seamless and flawless story. She writes gods that are completely relateable and who struggle just as the mortals they play with. I love that element to the story and think that it really does make this story fresh and unique.

Overall, From Darkness was a fabulous read. It intrigued me, frustrated me, captivated me and had me rooting for our main characters. The story-line is fresh and entertaining. The writing is flawless and brilliant. Staci Hart takes mythology and second chance romance to a whole other level that leaves me breathless and begging for more. I am beyond excited to what adventure Staci Hart has lined up for us next.

Aphrodite is now facing the maiden Artemis, who has a bit of a grudge against her (don't they all?? Why are all the Gods and Goddesses so down on love??) and Jon and Josie have a massive gap to close. It's not going to be an easy challenge for Aphrodite, but it is what it is.

Once again I'm awed by Staci Harts storytelling, the brilliant melding of 2 plot lines and the ever inspiring battle for happiness. I'll admit, of all the couples I think Jon and Josie really have the most to overcome and that drives the angst factor up a bit. Why would a man ever think he could leave his true love the way he did (and think he could win her back) made me certain he was crazy. But Jon, he's just a good guy doing what he genuinely felt was right. The plot is driven my the modern day mystery where Josie finds her life in danger and Jon works to be her hero. Teaming up is the only good path forward is to team up and that causes it's own new set of problems. And Ditta. She's in a fog of grief following her battle with Ares. She begins to spiral out of control and we're left wondering if she would she find her way back to sanity.

I have loved every word in this series and once again Staci has solidified herself as a favorite author o'mine. 5 Stars and my emphatic book/series recommendation!!

I love the whole concept of this series, when the gods are bored they play a game with two mortals but this one has been my favourite.

Josie is a woman you will admire she’s a tough PI who’s had two heartbreaks two many. Jon is the man she loved but he left without a word then her partner/ best friend is murdered. Jon comes back to a Josie who’s only focus is catching a killer but Jon wants a second chance.

I really enjoyed the thriller element of this story, it was fast paced edge of your seat reading. Then we have the conflict between Artemis and Aphrodite with tensions simmering below the surface. Another dimension to the story is loyal Heff who’s unrequited love for Dita made me sad but I like an underdog so I’m rooting for him.

Looking forward to the next book.

The games continue in book 3 of The Hearts & Arrows series by Staci Hart and Dita is a mess after everything that happened with Ares and Adonis at the end of Shift, but the games must go on, and she is up against Artemis this round.

When the goddess of love is broken and trying to figure out her life again, but also having to play the gave of the gods, everything is a mess. She’s not giving her all, and Artemis is playing a dangerous game with the players this time around. A second chance at love is in store if Dita can get her head in the game for the players, but she needs to get her head together, which is harder than you would think. I loved how complicated things were for Dita in this book and how much more depth we got for her character. Sure, she’s the goddess of love, and yeah, at times she can be flighty and conceited, but we truly got to feel her pain, her loss, and her spiraling out of control, and my heart truly broke for her. We also got to know more about Artemis and her story and as much as I hated what she put the players through in this book, as we got to know her, I began to feel sorry for her, and everything she had been through as well. Both Dita and Artemis have a lot in common, even if they don’t want to admit it, and both of them in their own way healed themselves throughout this book and through the game.

Now on to the players (the humans) and their chance at love. Josie and Jon were a perfect match, until Jon left her with his pregnant ex-girlfriend three years ago. Now he’s back and he is still in love with Josie and wants her back in his life. Problem.. Josie has been through so much, and her walls are too high to even think about letting Jon back in. There was a lot of miscommunication when Jon left, and Jon does everything he can to try to break through those walls, but it takes Josie putting her life in danger, and Jon having the lead she needs to find closure on her best friends death for her to finally let him back in.

Watching Josie and Jon deal with their past, and their present, along with the crazy murderer they were chasing was thrilling, scaring, and at the same time a roller-coaster. I for the longest time didn’t think Josie would ever give Jon a second chance, and with Dita not on her game, I didn’t think she would be able to help Jon get back into Josie’s good graces. It was a long, dangerous road for these two, but it was one that I think these two needed to go on.

This story was full of second chances, heartbreak, and about finding yourself, both for the immortals and the humans. In the series, it was the book in which we truly saw the gods grow the most, and got more of who they were and why they were they way they were. I loved seeing Perry and Dita fight, and work through their issues, and watching Heff be there for Dita, and watching Dita fall apart and begin to pull herself together. I love the gods more than I love the humans in these books, but Josie and Jon definitely held a special place for me as well. I definitely can’t wait for Dita and Athena’s game and to see how that plays out and who they pick for their players. If you’re a lover of Greek mythology and love, and want something different to read, then definitely pick up this series today!

~ 4.5 Stars ~

From Darkness is the third installment of the Hearts & Arrows Series and it is now my favorite. With the first two books, I mentioned that I was more invested in the Gods than I was with the humans they chose for their games. However, I was actually more invested in Jon and Josie than anyone else in From Darkness. Except for my love for Heff but more on that later.

A new game against Aphrodite has begun and her opponent is Artemis. These two already have a long and ragged past, as does all the Gods. Artemis cannot stand Aphrodite and her end goal is to make sure that she wins this new game. She's invested in her chosen player. Josie is strong willed and determined. She's head strong and fierce. But she's also heart broken and a bit jaded. The man she loved walked out on her three years ago and it has turned her into a slightly bitter person when it comes to love. Now he's back in her life and around every corner and she's forced to relive just how much she loves him.

Jon left Josie because he felt it was the right thing to do but he never stopped loving her and all he can think about is getting her back in his arms and back into her heart but stubborn Josie isn't allowing that at all. When he realizes that she needs his help but won't ever ask for it, he devises a plan to make sure he can be there for her. Therefore forcing them to be together.

Their part of the story is suspenseful and I really enjoyed the CSI vibe that we get from these two Private Investigators. The danger is serious but I also enjoyed the funny situations they get involved in when hunting down people to turn over to the police.

With the God's story, we get to see Aphrodite go through a whirlwind of emotions. She's still hurting from the death of a loved one and the betrayal of another loved one. While she is working all this out, we finally get her to stand up for herself and try to figure out just who she is.

Sine book one, I've been professing my love for Heff. Every single time he makes me sigh and my heart swoon and I just want him to be happy. Then Hart leaves us with that cliffy at the end that can only fuel my burning love for Heff. Is now the time??? I can't wait to get my hands on the next book and find out!

Another one knocked out of the park. This book brought all the tears. Not as much as previous novels I have read from Staci, but it brought them none the less. This series is like an addiction. I imagine it is quite similar to how Data feels for Area because even knowing it is going to wreck me, I can't help but to read it anyway.

Dita is up against Athena and the stakes have never been so high. I swear if I wants obsessing about Dita and her love life, Josie sure kept me busy. I felt like this novel was part romance and part thriller. I honestly didn't know hat was going to happen and it was riveting. Not only did we have this chaos, but at the same time we had Athena's story to learn and it was heart breaking.

I know this is a proviso series Staci had written, brought back with revisions, but as a reader enjoying it for the first time, I am hooked, line and sinker. I can't wait to read the next novel because there HAS TO BE ONE. There just must.

Synopsis:

4.5 stars; As well as having my favorite cover, this was my favorite book in the series! From Darkness is book 3 in the Hearts & Arrows series and I recommend you read them in order or you might get confused by some things

CW: rape, murder

From Darkness starts off with Dita (Aphrodite) being heartbroken and shaken by what happened with Ares in Shift. She’s distracted and off her game, which Artemis hopes will be her downfall when their competition begins

Artemis, goddess of the hunt, chooses Josie as her human: A private investigator (PI) who is still hurt and bitter after her ex abruptly left her 3 years ago for his pregnant ex girlfriend. She’s also still broken up over the fact that her best friend was murdered but the case is still unsolved

Dita (Aphrodite) picks Jon, who happens to be the ex boyfriend who left Josie 3 years ago. Jon never stopped loving Josie, but when his ex girlfriend found out she was pregnant, he felt he had to go support her and the baby. Now he’s back in NYC and he’s determined to prove to Josie he still loves her

Artemis despises Aphrodite and she’s become jaded after the one person she ever loved was killed. So now she thinks love is useless and she intends to make sure that Josie doesn’t give Jon a second chance. But she’s so bent on winning, she makes some careless decisions that put both players in danger

When Josie connects another murder case to Anne’s, she begins connecting the dots. With her partner (Anne) dead, she needs help. And the only other person willing and able to help her is Jon. Can she let him in again? Anne’s case might never be solved if she doesn’t

I really enjoyed this! I was definitely more invested in Josie & Jon than the gods in Olympus, though I did enjoy Artemis! This gets dark because there are murders and rapes (sorry if this is an spoiler, but there’s a serial killer). But I thought it was cool how it twisted from romance to kind of romantic suspense, and then had Olympus weaved in

Book 3 in a series, Please beware there’s rapes and murders, Romance but there’s also some suspense, there’s a 🔥 scene

In the third installment of Staci Hart's Hearts and Arrows series, the stakes get ramped up considerably as the Greek Gods continue their games using poor unsuspecting mortals as pawns. This time, the gods in question are Aphrodite and Artemis and those pawns are Jon and Josie. Their second chance romance is my favorite storyline of the series to date and also the darkest of the series so far.

Josie wants nothing to do with Jon. Her heart is still not repaired from him leaving without a word. Jon thought he was doing what was best when he left Josie, but he still loves her just as much now as he did then. He wants nothing more than to protect her, but she is always determined to do everything herself, even if it puts her life at risk. With a possible serial killer on the loose and Josie's life in danger, she may have no choice, but to rely on Jon's help. She may need him, but can she forgive him enough to risk her heart one more time on love?

Jon and Josie's history make for a nice additional layer to their story and really pulled at my emotions. Both are wonderful characters I loved reading about. Josie is so strong and independent, almost dangerously so in the case of this story. Jon is also such an endearing character and I loved how he owned his mistakes and tried so hard to make them right. The serial killer adds a darker element to the plot that kept things tense and gripping.

I also am so in love with Aphrodite. At the beginning of this series, she came off as shallow, but as we get to know her, we realise how very human she is, perhaps the most human of all the Greek Gods. My heart keeps breaking for her and she made some poor choices here that really impacted Jon and Josie. I love all of the Gods we are getting to know and want their happiness just as much as I want the humans they are playing with to have happy endings.

Paper Hearts Shift From Darkness.... I kept saying this while reading this book loving how all the title flowed together. From Darkness brought out so many feelings in me. Anger, Angst, a Gasp and ugly Tears! Elizabeth @ White Hot Reads

From Darkness follows Jon and Josie in this second chance romance; they has a love lost a few years ago when life sent Jon on a different path. Now he is back and he want another chance at the love of his life. Their story is Dangerous and will leave you very emotional.

Back in Olympus; Dita and Artemis are the players in the game with our lovers this time. Dita is struggling in her personal life and trying to mend her broken heart. I am still #TeamHeff and I am hoping that Dita finds her way to him.

Jon and Heff both have never stopped loving the loves of their lives!

LOVED! Might be my fave of the series. Dark, intense, totally swoony. Review to come.

Update: Full review. My apologies to Staci for taking so damned long. ;)<3

***WARNING! Some of DOE EYES content may be difficult to read. I know it may even turn a few readers away, BUT, to me it is absolutely necessary to capture the essence of the characters and the believability of the story. Push through. It's well worth it.***

☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆

Wow. I swear I fall more in love with this series and Staci's AMAZING style with each installment. Seeing as I am already head over heels for Dita, Perry, Heff, and yes- even Ares, that's saying quite a lot. Once again, I was immediately pulled in. Caught up once more in Dita's pain and sorrow. Her doubts and fears. And the new challenge set before her. She is one of the most beguiling characters out there. More human than any goddess should be. To me, that's what makes her so fun and lovable. And endearing. OK, dammit. She's just freaking fantastic. I love her SO much.

Moving along...
This book is much darker than the others. There is more mystery and intrigue. And danger. And while it dealt with some pretty serious - and disturbing situations, it was FULL of AWESOME. Josie and Jon were both woooonderful characters. Josie- strong, fearless, and fiercely independent. Trying to move on after her heart is shattered. Jon- a man of honor, doing the best he can to right his mistakes and fulfill his promises.
Both exceptional at their jobs, relentless when seeking justice and the truth.

While this may sound all gloom and doom, this is, in fact a love story. A fabulous, tortuous, and exciting love story. Staci throws us a sweet twist from the previous books- this is the first time the players have a history together. Knowing this going in, it makes the stakes seem higher. And the relationships more authentic. More real. I loved every moment.

Jon and Josie's history drives a lot of the story, along with what brings them back together. A possible serial killer? A real threat to Josie and the community? And is this monster tied to murders too close to home? So many unanswered questions and not nearly enough clues.

It quickly becomes clear that Josie will need Jon to catch the bad guy. But does she need 'him'? Does she still have feelings for him? Can she get over his leaving without a word? Will she even give the man a chance to explain and restore his good reputation?

And Jon? He has quite a story to tell. And it will make you fall. Hard. He's a charmer, ladies. But he's so much more. And he's never forgotten how Josie effects him. He couldn't even try. *sigh*

I was swept away by the passion of DOE EYES. Good and bad. Passion rules and tensions are at a constant high. Staci doesn't back away from the tough stuff. The s*** gets pretty real. And yet she took a terrifying storyline and made it fascinating and exciting. I was balls deep into the manhunt. Racing through pages, anticipating twists and turns. Seeing what risks Josie was willing to take. Each more deadly than the last. My heart pounded as each scene became more extreme, more frenzied, and more reckless.

By far the most graphic and harrowing of the series thus far, DOE EYES grabs you by the throat and demands your attention. Each page drips emotional turmoil and anguish like fresh blood from a fatal wound. Heartache, panic, and fear bled through, and I felt every bit of emotion. Every moment of desperation and doubt. Every bit of pain endured by not just Jon and Josie, and the victims of our killer's heinous crimes, but also our goddesses. We learn so much more about each of them. In their long lives they've seen more pain and suffering than one could imagine. They've loved so deeply. And paid dearly with their hearts, bodies, minds, and souls. And we experience it all with them. But they are goddesses and it's impossible not to fall under their spells, so we become enchanted and enthralled.

I think Artemis is my favorite of Aphrodite's competitors. Her back story is fascinating and heartbreaking. She comes from a dark place. Her love and loss of Orion has left her devastated and bitter. What she discovers about their past and herself will shatter her beliefs and send her reeling. But what does that mean for her player? Will she stay on a course of vengeance? Or will she come out of this a better goddess?

In typical Staci Hart fashion, we are put through the wringer, but we do get all of our questions answered. Not easily. There is resolution and finality. But this is a very bumpy ride. Tissues and comfort food are in order. Leave your attitude and judgment at the door. Settle in, and get ready to have your cage rattled, your fears tested, and your heart expanded- it might even explode. Especially when you meet a little cutie named Lola. Of course I can't forget the crazy fun banter between Dita and her bestie, Perry. It wouldn't be a Good Gods book without their trademark sarcasm and hilarity. Who knew there were so many names for a man's, er god's most treasured ****... well, I'll leave that for you to discover along with the most spectacular and satisfying ending.

DOE EYES is a phenomenal story that will touch you deep inside and make your heart sing.
And the epilogue??? Holy crow! I truly cannot wait for what comes next.

THE BEST BOOK IN THE SERIES SO FAR!

Artemis is the newest competitor in the games, and she is determined to win against Dita. This time her player can't go wrong. Josie is a private investigator who has lost everything in the past three years. The love of her life left her for his ex girlfriend and their baby. And recently her best friend was murdered by the guy they were trying pin down for the murder of a sixteen year old girl. Artemis soon comes to realize just how closely related she is with her player and how she's still bitter about her own past with love.

Aphrodite woke up in the last book - falling hard and losing her way. Now, picking up the pieces she is distracted from the current game against a spiteful and bitter Artemis. Trying to find herself again and struggling, Dita's game is a little off this time round. Dita's player is Jon, Josie's ex boyfriend, the one who left her for his ex girlfriend, the mother of his child. Jon knows he handled Josie wrong all those years ago, but he really does still love Josie - and he's going to prove it. No matter what it takes.

This is my favorite book so far. Josie is pig-headed like you wouldn't believe. But she is independent, and she's hanging in there even with the murder of her best friend. Gosh, you really feel for Josie though. All the crap that life's thrown at her and she's still standing.

Jon messed up. He left Josie to help support his ex girlfriend and their baby. He never stopped loving Josie though. His heart was in the right place when he left the Dear John letter that never reached Josie. He messed up, but he knows that and he spends the entire book trying to fix it. I like Jon, and I'm his side throughput the book. But Josie can't deal with him and trying to find Anne's murderer. So it's definitely a conflicting situation.

Artemis is bitter. She doesn't see the use of love and she blames Dita for her own lost love eons ago. She is determined to beat Dita this time, and the fact that Dita chose Josie's ex boyfriend, well, Artemis knows she has this win. But the longer the games go on the more she doubts herself. And Artemis is just soreckless, it's incredibly frustrating. She underestimates humans and their emotions.

Dita, gods you really feel for her. After what happened in Snake in the Grass Dita's life is all topsy-turvy. She has a lot to figure out in this book, and its a real strain playing the game as well. Artemis's plays at her and hiding from Ares puts a real dent into Dita. Her life is just a whirlwind in this book.

I love, like LOVE, this book. It's my favorite of the series so far. Each of the books has its own feel to it, and this one is the darkest. I love how each plot in all of the books are so different, telling their own story. So often you find books in a series being the same or similar.

Doe Eyes is without a doubt the darkest of the books so far. It's completely different from the other ones. This book has more mystery to it than the others. One of the things I loved was the anticipation. I was kept on the edge of my seat the entire time. It was awesome.

There is a crime-story feel to this book, which I'll admit I'm not normally into, but it works with the way the series has been going and the way the game is with the characters. It's different, but a good different. And of course it fits Josie and Jon since they're both private investigators.

I love the characters in this one. You can really connect with them, even if like me you don't have all that much in common with them. Some of the things are tragic and horrifying, and you feel sympathy for the characters. But you also really hope that they end up together, and there are several close calls in the book where I had to put the book down and pace the room to get my emotions down. Gods, the feels in this book. They're something else.

There was nothing I disliked about Doe Eyes. It was the most amazing book so far, and I am already excited to read the next book. The wait will be horrible, but I will endure it happily.

Doe Eyes captivated me from the very first page and the anticipation to find out what would happen very nearly killed me. I would highly recommend this book to anyone and everyone who enjoys a good book with some romance and mystery. It is a spectacular read and you will be dying for the next one.

My Review:
This book was amazing and since Staci doesn’t disappoint me EVER I knew this would be an amazing read. Game 3 has started and Dita has been away with Perry for a couple weeks in Greece to try and avoid Ares. This game is to be played with Artemis and the players are Josie and Jon, both are Private Investigators. They dated but then Jon picked up and left Josie after he found out his ex was pregnant with his kid. 3 years later Jon shows up still pining over Josie only to find a broken girl on a mission to find a serial killer she thinks killed her friend.

I think my favorite part of this books was the realization of getting over losing someone. Having lost my best friend 10 years ago from an illness it was a heart tugger this book. I understand the holding on part (even though I know the situation is different) Josie wanted revenge on the person who killed her Best Friend Anne it was like she couldn't really get over her if she knows the killer is still out there someplace and to have lost Jon also I think made her hold back on her feelings when he returned. Artemis also needed closer because she is so bitter and full of hate because she lost Orion. Heart tugger I tell you, HEART TUGGER!!!

I also loved that Perry told her story, it is one of the stories I have been wanting to hear. All three books and Perry is by far my favorite character. The characters of Josie and Jon are fantastic and reading the POV of the serial killer sent chills down my spine. I have recently stopped watching Law & Order SVU, it was giving me panic attacks because I kept thinking of my kids this gave me a mild panic attack also and was written very well. I give someone a lot of credit who can write a crazy person that well. It must take a toll on you to write something like that. The entire story as much as the emotions get to you, you want them to find this guy and stop him before its to late.

I loved the story as a whole. The story in Olympus continues from were it left off last book give or take a few weeks with a few things being resolved and new issues coming up. The story in New York with Jon and Josie was amazing with so much detail and the information Staci need to write a story like this is super impressive (however I never doubt her ability) and extremely well done.

With an intense story and the familiar characters you know and love. Doe Eyes did not disappoint. I gave it 5/5 stars for it’s strong intense and emotional story. Staci is an amazing author and this is a series I will never stop reading. If you have not started it yet you must…seriously…you must!

“Aphrodite put her stock in love, which was nebulous and vague. Artemis believed in logic, what she could see, smell, touch. But logic rarely applied to love.”

Doe Eyes picks up right after Snake in the Grass and it’s time for Dita to return to Olympus for her match against Artemis, the goddess of hunt, and where she’ll have to face Ares once again and deal with the fact that Adonis is gone for good. This is a struggle for Dita. Luckily she has Perry and Heff by her side as she deals with everything. I really felt for Dita and what she was going through: the fear and the loss. As the story progresses, it’s nice to see Dita overcome these obstacles and grow stronger. Artemis was an interesting opponent for Dita, one of my favorites. She's a bit bitter and underestimates the humans. She has her own story of a love lost that caused my heart to break for her.

"Love is a ridiculous sentiment, fueled by hormones. It compromises you, creates a weakness that wasn't there before. No...I have no need for love."

A new round means new human players. Josie is a private investigator with a broken heart determined to find the man who killed her best friend. Jon is the ex who broke her heart, back in town for the first time since he left her. After knowing both Jon and Josie’s stories I couldn't help but root for them. Their break-up was more of a misunderstanding than anything, but Josie just has so much hate in her heart I was scared she would never get past it. Right from the get-go, I was nervous about this match. Jon is persistent though. And good thing he is. The gods' game takes a dangerous turn causing me to fear for the humans lives, especially Josie's.

This is the third set of human players in the game, and I have to say they are my favorite. Josie had dealt with so much that I just wanted closure for her so she could heal from the pain of her past, and while I don’t agree with her feelings towards Jon, they are completely realistic. I totally fell for Jon, regardless of how much Josie hated him. It’s clear he was doing what he thought was right in the past, whether it really was or not. He’s just a great guy wanting to win the women he loves back. I will say I greatly enjoyed the dynamic between Jon and one of his exes, who he has a child with. It was nice to see two people so amicably raise their child together.

“She was a burning match, and he was gasoline, and when one touched the other, everything was consumed.”

Once again, Hart has woven two stories together in one beautifully. The transition from the gods to the humans is flawless and the pacing is perfect. I was constantly at the edge of my seat and anxious to know what move would be made next in the game. This story has a much darker and serious tone than the ones before it, and I loved the change. Doe Eyes is full of heart and suspense and so many feels. But don’t worry, Hart’s humor still shines through! I love all the stories in this series, but I believe this is my favorite thus far. I can’t wait for the fourth game to see what happens next for Dita and to meet the new players!

“Pain isn’t forever. It’s not always. One day it’s just behind you, and you crept past it so slowly that you didn’t even realize it.”

Game 3 begins! Aphrodite has been in Greece for weeks hiding out with Perry. She is trying to heel from the loss of losing Adonis for good and the betrayal of Ares who she recently discovered was the one that killed him all those years ago and just recently tried to kill her as well. She’s trying so hard to overcome her fears but even being in the same room with Ares right now makes it hard for her to breathe. When you add in the fact that she can’t sleep and is afraid to go the common room and running into Ares, she’s having a hard time keeping her head in the game.

This game Dita is up against Artemis who is the daughter of Zeus and twin sister to Apollo. She is the goddess of chastity, virginity, the hunt, the moon, and the natural environment. Artemis has distanced herself for many, many years from humans and doesn’t see eye to eye with many of peers while playing the game.

Artemis chooses Josie, a private investigator with a chip on her shoulder about a man and a vendetta to catch the serial killer that killed her best friend. Artemis believes that since she herself has carried her own “chip” for thousands of years that there is no way that Josie will let her walls down and let anyone in, let alone the one that broke her heart in the first place.

With that said, Dita has no choice but to choose Jon. He left Josie for his ex-girlfriend three years ago when she found out that she was pregnant and even though Josie doesn’t believe him, he did try to say goodbye. Having recently moved back to New York, he’s trying his best to get Josie to listen to him but he hurt her so bad that she refuses no matter how hard it is.

Can Aphrodite get her head in the game long enough to win or will she loose for the first time in thousands or years? Will Josie catch her serial killer before it’s too late or will he once again get away with murder as he has for the past thirty years? Will Artemis let go of her loss in order to help someone in need or will she remain against love because her one and only love was taken unfairly?

This book was amazing and may have been my favorite so far because while I love a good romance, this book also has some mystery and suspense as well. There didn’t seem to be as many laugh out loud funny parts as the other books but because Dita is so heart broken, it fits but trust me, there are plenty of funny parts. The name game that Dita and Perry play, the bale jumpers that Josie and Jon have to bring in and even the banter between Josie and Jon themselves. This is book three of the Good God series and while the stories between the humans are each separate, the story of the gods is continuous so if you really want to get the full story you should start at book 1. Trust me though, you won’t be sorry!

I was given an advanced copy of this book by Staci Hart in return for an honest review. I can’t thank her enough because this is one of my favorite series!

**** 4 STARS ****

So sad that´s the last book in the series. I´ve been loving Staci´s writing so far. In this last installment, it´s time for Aphrodite to face Artemins. In the love game. But who knows if the goodness of the hunt will have any chance against the goodness of love.

Artemis chooses Josie as her human. An obstinate private investigator that was left behind by her boyfriend 3 years ago. The one who she thought would be the one.

A few months ago, Josie and her partner were hired to find a missing girl. And she had a “feeling” when talking to one of the neighbors that he might have more to this case than he was talking about. So, she goes to his hometown and ends up finding out that he was a suspect in a homicide, but the cops didn´t have enough evidence to put him behind the bars. Coming back home, she leaves with her partner copy of the old case evidence and goes to the police station because they just found the missing girl body. When she returned, the box was gone and her partner, dead.
But now, even after some time, she never gave up on trying to solve the mystery about the death of all these girls. But she never thought she would end up meeting the person she most hates in the world: Joe.

He is Aphrodite player and the goodness of love knows he´s the perfect pair for Josie. But will this stubborn girl give him the chance to explain everything behind his departure? What he had to do that he end up leaving her: And know that solving the murder of her partners is so close, will she let him help? Knowing that he might be the one she needs to protect her?

This book was a great way to end (end?) this trilogy. Josie and Joe are my favorite humans for sure. Their story is so good, delicate, full of angst and they´re fearless! They try to understand the past mistakes, learn from them and learn to forgive.

On the Olympus, Aphrodite is still trying to make sense of her abusive relationship with Ares. But I´m glad that he has Perry by her side. And she suffers a lot in this book. If you thought that because she is a goodness she must be perfect you´re soooooooo wrong.

Again, I loved this story by Staci Hart. She knows how to mix a true romance with some Greek mythology. These series were so much more than I could hope for.

Not gonna lie, I really want to see Aphrodite facing one of the three big gods: Zeus, Hades or Poseidon. But who knows if this is going to happen. Either way, I loved this book. Plain and simple.

I can't even put this book into words. When I read the first book in the Good Gods series I thought 'Wow, how do you top this?" And then I read the second and it was even better than the first. Now we're on the third book in the series, you know when most series start to fizzle and lose steam? HAH. Not a chance. Staci's writing is like a fine wine (it supposedly gets better with time? I don't know I've never kept wine for very long.) and 'Doe Eyes' tops them all.

This is game three and the game is between Dita and Artemis! We're introduced to Artemis' human player, Josie a private investigator with a chip on her shoulder to match the goddess' own when it comes to love and the desire that burns within her to catch the man who murdered her partner. And then Dita picks the only human that has the remarkable ability to put Josie into a free fall - the handsome Jon Landreaux. The man from New Orleans with the stupid jerk face and southern drawl. Josie's ex. But Josie's not the only one who is in a downward spiral, Dita is dealing with the backlash of the attack from Ares. She isn't sleeping thanks to the nightmares and is almost petrified to leave her apartment, is this going to affect the game? Everyone is an absolute mess.

The storyline this time around has a much deeper, darker, and serious tone than the previous books - but as always Dita and Perry are still good for a laugh to lighten the mood. Staci has touched on the rather vile subject of murder and rape in this book and it would make most people cringe and put a book down, but I think she has handled such a raw topic with absolute finesse. I usually find myself walking the line with her characters when they have such depth to them there's no easy hate or love for an individual. They have been developed with such care to minor details that they certainly come to life from the pages they are written.

This book has to be my favorite in the series thus far. It always amazes me how Staci is able to mold mythology to her advantage. Being able to take something ancient and breathe new life to it, taking the sad myth of Artemis and Orion and turning it into something absolutely tragic is an art. When you read the old myths you accept them, but when I read them in her books I have the inherent need and desire for those stories to be changed. For the good guy to win, or in this case for the Titan to be spared.

This series has given me such a range of emotions from the very beginning, but nothing compared to this one. Do not pass this book up! It is a must read!
