A sexy, gripping romantic suspense… She has three rules: No marriage. No children. No promise. He's going to love her. Thad Bowers, Vice President of Notus Motorcycle Club, searches for missing persons when he's not punching the clock at Port Loaders. He goes out of his way to hold those he loves close since his sister was kidnapped and murdered twenty-four years ago, and he lost his MC brother in the aftermath. So, when the mysterious woman who has tempted him one too many times needs his help, he's not walking away. No matter how many rules she throws at him. As a 911 dispatcher, Lena Hollis deals with emergencies from a safe distance. She enjoys a quiet, private life with the occasional non-committal date thrown in for excitement. But, her simple life grows complicated when Tigres, a local gang, puts a mark on her back and her recent date hauls her to his house for her protection. A home that includes parents, bikers, and a huge social circle. Everything she doesn't want in her life. Lena brings new meaning to being the black sheep of the family. Thad's going to do everything within his power to show her what it feels like to give and receive love. To hell with the rules…

I'm really torn with this one and what rating to give it. Out of all the books I've read there are only a few heroines that I've disliked and unfortunately this is one of them. I could not connect with her at all. Even after we got the details of her childhood which admittedly was horrible I still couldn't connect. I agree with what she did by leaving her "family" when she did but she sheltered herself and didn't help herself. I found her to be robotic and rude. You can't reach the age she has and not know simple social "rules". She was so rude to his parents. The rules she set out for herself were ridiculous. Thad on the other hand I love his character. He stuck by her which was something because I don't know any men who would have put up with the bullshit. He called her out on it which was great. My attitude softened towards her near the end but I still had difficulties with her.

Another good read

Debra Kahn writes interesting books, they never go the way you imagine and are always grittier with the main characters not always likeable -at first.
Lena is one of those, a prickly loner, she works as a police dispatcher. She meets Thad, one of the Notus MC and is upfront about what she wants from the start. Thad sees through her and their story begins.
The author always writes a good book, its always well edited, the characters are well thought out with supporting characters from previous books making an appearance.
Why four and a half stars? I felt their story was slightly unfinished and because the way the books are written,I can't see the answers forthcoming in the next book. It is however the only 'flaw' for me.
If you want a grittier MC book with a more real feel, then go for it, you'll enjoy it. Be aware, the danger in the book involving a threat is quite disturbing but brilliantly solved.
I'm looking forward to the next.

This series---just WOW!!!!! They always feel so real. The stories center around The Notus Motorcycle Club that searches for missing persons in the Portland/St. John, Oregon area--gorgeous area by the way.

This is Thad's story about finding love. It was Thad's sister that disappeared 20 years ago that had the club getting involved in searches. Now he has his own unique situation after meeting Lena. Lena is a police dispatcher with walls built of steel.

She has rules to keep her emotions in tacts. She wants nothing to do with love or family. When her life is in danger she will be surrounded by that she seeks to avoid.

Making life more challenging is the private contract that the guys accept to find a girl that disappeared in Eugene years ago. Drama, Drama, Drama!!!!!

A LIFE OF SADNESS

Until she met Thad, Lena had never been challenged to let the walls she had built inside her to crumble.

Lena grew up in a cold, hateful world. Her mother showed her nothing but hatred. At 18 Lena left, changed her name, and disappeared. Now she is being threatened by a street gang for reasons unknown.

Thad sees a woman he would love to get to know in Lena. She, however, lets him know she is interested in sex only. No emotional ties whatsoever. Thad is determined to change her mind. He learns one day that Lena is the subject his MC has been hired to find by her brother. What he learns about this family sickens him.

A sad storyline but one that is all too prevalent in today's society. Very well told.

Great Read

I really enjoyed this book, even though, this MC series is not my favorite one. I could relate to both Thad & Lena and how important family is during a time of crises. Looking forward to the next book.

Thaddeus

This story was my favorite thus far in this series. It’s emotional and sweet, but also heartbreaking. Lena goes through a complete awakening to the possibilities of love. I cannot wait for the next story.

Lena and Thad met one night at a bar. He was drawn to her immediately and asked her out. She went to his house and after he tried to get her to stay she told him she wasn’t interested in being someone else he collected for sex. When they ended up going on a second date she lays down her rules which were pretty much a relationship of just sex. It made no sense to me. There was some intrigue surrounding why a gang had marked her, as well as the current missing person Notus was searching for. Lena also had a crap childhood while Thad’s was great up until his sister was murdered when he was around 20. I liked the book okay but didn’t care for Lena through much of it.

Awesome Series

This series keeps getting better and better. I adore Thad and Lena's story. It was unique and a story with so many twists and turns to it. What happens when know one has ever told you they love you? What happens when you've been a disappointment? When you've always been thee black sheep?

I'm going to love you.

Thad! Oh man he was awesome. It took me half the book, maybe more, to actually like Lena. She was pretty set in her own ways and Thad broke a lot of her rules, but she was very hard to connect too. As the book went on and more is revealed, I started getting it.
I ended up loving Lena, but I hate how long it took to get there with her. Great story line tho! Time to power on!

I was hooked from page one. Thad finally meets the woman for him, BUT she wasn't looking for him. In fact she has rules, rules to prevent pesky feelings like love becoming involved. Thad chooses to play by Lena rules because he believes if he gives her enough time she will come to believe "I'm going to love you"

My heart broke for Lena. The difference between her and Thad's upbringings was night and day. This story teaches us not to be afraid to dream and that when something seems too good to be true....something it is just that- Good!
