"Into Winter" is written as a stand-alone book, but best if the Four Seasons series is read from the beginning, starting with "Into Autumn", then the sequel, "Into Spring". "Into Winter" is the continuing saga of Peaceful Valley with no cliffhangers, which will sizzle through the spring and "Into Summer" in 2018.
"Into Winter" opens with Robbie and two of his lady friends' harrowing escape from Corpus Christi. They think they are now safe from Sandra, but this is far from the truth.
The ruthless dictator of Corpus Christi, Sandra Hawkins has blood in her eyes as she plans revenge against Peaceful Valley. Sean Lin discovers her plan, but does the small community stand a chance against her heavily armed and well-trained army? The valley's residents are wary hunters skilled at camouflage and stealth, but will toughness and smarts be enough to save their way of life from overwhelming force?
This is the third book in the four seasons series. Sean has returned to Peaceful Valley accompanied by two pregnant women. They have learned about Sandra Hawkins, the leader at Corpus Christi, plan to attack Peaceful Valley. Sandra figures she will catch them unaware and illuminate everyone. The Peaceful Valley families have a meeting. They start planning and put a plan together. They have a few surprises of their own which will take Sandra Hawkins by surprise. They stay alert so they won't be caught unawares. They put a system together to defend themselves from Sandra Hawkins and her ruthless army. At first glance the residents of Peaceful Valley appear to be just a bunch of farmers but never underestimate them because they will surprise you. The author has once again weaved a fantastic story that drew me in right from the beginning. I found it difficult to put the book down. There were a couple of formatting problems but not enough to take me out of the story. This is a RRBC book.
This is the third book in the “Four Seasons” series. It continues with the residents of Peaceful Valley-- following the grid shut down that caused the collapse of society. After Robbie and Sean find their way back from the cruel dictatorship in Corpus Christi, there is a price to pay for leaving. Sandra is determined to attack Peaceful Valley. It was an interesting process to watch them prepare and defend their way of life, with very real consequences on both sides. What I found most thought-provoking was their realization that what goes on outside of Peaceful Valley affects them. There is some great insight into what makes a good government from the ground up. Although, it’s a brutal process I found it a spell binding read. I loved learning survival skills in the first book, the exploration in the second book, but this one gets you to wonder “what would you do" and then admire when the characters go beyond their own comfort. I’m eagerly looking forward to “Into Summer” and seeing where Mr. Landgraf takes us next.
