The wife of a gangster is accused of offing him. Damien soon finds that nobody is who they seem - quite literally. But to defend his client, he must break every ethical rule.
Damien Harrington is fresh off his come from behind victory when he's thrust into yet another harrowing scenario. Gina Degrazio, wife to Vittorio Degrazio, notorious gangster, stands accused of Vittorio's murder. Gina's a tough-talking native New Yorker who was transplanted to Kansas City. She swears she didn't do it. She was with her boyfriend, Enzo Degrazio, Vittorio's twin brother, at the time of the murder. Or so she says. However, bit by bit, her story falls apart. Damien doubts that Gina was anywhere near Enzo at the time of the murder, yet he must use that alibi excuse if he is to win Gina's case.
In the meantime, Damien and Harper together work several wrongful death suits that were the result of toxic mold in various homes on the East Side. The plaintiffs are all poor and minority, the landlords are all slumlords and scummy, and Damien works these cases with a passion that he has not felt for the law in many years.
With all the hairpin curves and twists you've come to expect from a Rachel Sinclair legal thriller, this first installment featuring Damien Harrington in the lead is not to be missed!
Author's This book is a standalone and does not end in a cliffhanger. However, there is a short teaser at the end of the book, to introduce you to the next book.
Story started little slow, to make us understand the Damien character. Two different cases he is working on. One is toxic mold in apartments owned by slumlords. With this case, author is showing us his good human side. Second and main plot is defending Gina Vittorio, wife of a gangster. She is being accused of killing her husband, Damien has to do everything to get her off, legal and illegal.
I'm not familiar with the author of Alibi so maybe she is new to writing. I guess the story was basically okay but if the author had not had the characters repeat everything at least twice she would have had very few words in this book. She also explained everything as if we readers haven't seen enough crime shows to know what phrases mean. I found it very tiring. If it is her first try at writing I apologize and I know you will improve.
I really like how the books flow together so easily and characters keep coming back. I was very surprised about the verdict. I thought Gina should of been found guilty. Maybe it was because I wanted to slap her. On another note again I was very Confused at the beginning on of it was Harper or Damien talking. The very beginning I thought it was Harper. Overall it was a great book.

I am a big fan of Damien but I was not happy about his situation with his ex-wife and her treatment of the kids. The story was exciting and I was on edge about how it would end. I'm hoping we have more with Ally coming back in play. I'm glad this book focused more on Damien since Harper just seems to get in so much trouble and it was a nice break.
This is a good, well written book. The story line was not very well hidden, and it was pretty easy to predict what was going to happen next. It was easy to read, however, and that helped bring up the score on the book. I am anxious to read another one of Ms. Sinclair's books to see if it was just one book, or if that is her style of writing.
Criminal lawyer, Damien Harrington, must find a way to get an acquittal for his client, Gina Degrazio, if he wants to save his best friend, Nick. But will he be able to pull it off?
A story of trying to save a friend's life and find the truth at the same time.
Another great addition to the Harper Ross series! Damien Harrington is making a great name for himself in this series, the way the stories combine and characters merge. I've read mostly all the series and can't wait to read how these legal thriller lawyers are gonna get the not so good clients off the chopping block!
Follow this 5 star read by Rachel Sinclar! Gina is accused of killing her husband Vitty but her alibi is Vitty's twin brother Enzo. Harper takes the case but there is things that just don't add up. Is Gina really innocent? There are lots of twits and turns and keep you guessing! Don't miss out
This was my first time to read a Rachel Sinclair book.
It was a good read and very fast read. I just hope that the story as she wrote is representative of the criminal defense lawyers in this country. It was a very good fictional story and must be viewed as such.
Captured my attention right from the opening. This book has a nice brisk style. Not a word I'd out of place. It truly sweeps you into the courtroom and interview rooms. I received an education as well as a thrilling read.
I enjoyed the novel as it demonstrated a personal motive for an attorney to argue a case that he did not believe in and knew was wrong. It raises the question about justice and what that really means.
The author has written a very interesting and entertaining story about the law profession that is sure to keep you entertained and guessing what will be the next hurdle and just how he will get over it.
It took me a while to get into this story but once I decided to read a little more I decided to continue. It was okay..... But not really my cup of tea.
Unsympathetic characters, a whiny main character and an unscrupulous attorney. Put that all together and it makes for a book that is not a very good read.
1st Rachel Sinclair book for me .. enjoyed this page turner, I cared how it turned out for the people involved.I Will look for the next one of Damien's cases.
Did I like this book? Yes. And no. As a legal thriller, the reader is presented with the facts. The facts will keep you turning pages but not with any urgency. It's an up in your head thing rather than a grab you and won't let you go thing. There is no drama. No character arcs. Interesting? Yes. Compelling? No. I'd give it a B+ for effort and hope that the author continues writing and developing her craft.
