This Season Four compilation includes Episodes 19-24 in their entirety.
Those who survived on the "Other Earth" have returned home and now, years later, are still trying to patch up the pieces of their lives that shattered when they disappeared.
But they didn't come back alone...
A new power is rising on Earth, throwing society into turmoil. Only those involved in the October 15th "incident" have any hope of stopping it. And if they don't, Earth may soon fall all over again.
The fourth season of the indie horror hit Yesterday's Gone explodes with action, terror and beer-battered...well, you know the drill.

Yesterday’s Gone Season 4 is the fourth book in the post-apocalyptic series written by Sean Platt and David Wright. If you completed the third book, recognize that this is not a standalone and that reading further will contain spoilers for the previous season. You should know that the survivors returned from an alternate reality and are attempting to return to some sense of normalcy, which was destroyed when they were snatched from a distinct timeline. (You were warned.) However, when the survivors returned, they had not eradicated the darkness that attempted to claim them. In fact, they brought something back with them that may be far worse than what they contended with in the other world. Characters are still just as strong. The plot continues to intrigue, but the story may be wearing thin, right about now. I did communicate that the story seems to get lost in seasons three and four, but thankfully finds itself before the end.
I liked this book, but I liked the previous ones. The Darkness that is evil followed our main characters from the previous earth (alternate). Now the Darkness is taking over and anyone who came from the earlier earth needs to die.Everyone else needs to be controlled.
It's pretty fitting that the YG authors have said that they emulated the serial aspect of the TV show "Lost" when writing these books, since both the show and the book started out strong and promising only to devolve into an overburdened mess.
Like with Lost, I still enjoyed reading the book since the series hooked me so much early on that I needed to know how it will continue. But I found myself less inclined to attend to the story's details, skimming over some parts and even groaning at weird developments like zombies and poop igloos (yes, the authors used the word "poop").
One of the best facets of the writing is the authors' obvious enthusiasm for the stories and characters, something that will make me come back for the 5th and final 6th editions. I just hope they find the awesomeness that made the first three books so much fun to read.
Couldn't get into this season. Got somewhere between 40-50% finished and felt like I was wasting my time, so I quit. Felt like I was starting all over with the few remaining characters changing so much that I no longer liked them and I frankly didn't care about the new characters. The "threat level" didn't hold my attention, some of the horror elements felt like cheap shock value tricks, Luca and Paola felt juvenile again, and Boricio was an offensive "Dexter knock-off." I'm quite disappointed since I enjoyed seasons 1-3 a lot more than I expected and just don't want to ruin it by trying to force my way through seasons 4-6. Sorry.
I started these books on vacation and absolutely flew through the first three, they were so good I just finished reading season 4, and unfortunately, I'm not as impressed. Maybe it's because I decided to read them as weekly "episodes" instead of just reading the whole thing now that its finished, and this gave it a disjointed feeling. I really loved seeing some of my old favorites back (Luca, Boricio, Mary and Paola). And the new characters were interesting enough (none were Boricio but they weren't bad!). I loved the surprise character to visit Mary at the end! The zombies were kind of disappointing; I think there are already enough bad guys in this book, and I'm not a huge fan of zombie stories/shows. But to each their own. And lastly, I really hope the authors don't ruin such a great story, by not ending it when it needs to be finished, prolonging it to keep the paychecks coming. I LOVE these authors, and want them to be completely successful, but the first three seasons were perfect. The fact that they left the end of 3 open for a fourth, and they've basically guaranteed a fifth with the end of 4, just worries me that they'll stretch it past its good time. I definitely recommend it, but be prepared to be left hanging again and waiting for another season.
Love the way the plot is angling so far this each character has a role and just when you think it's small it starts to expand and pull you in deeper. I want Paola and Luca to branch into another series for later in their adulthood.
The survivors have finally returned to their own world…but what they didn’t realise is that something has come with them. Season 4 continues the story with The Darkness now loose in our own world, and looking to spread and destroy it the same as it did the world it originally came from. But once again, The Light is there to stop it - but to do so, first it will need the help of some old allies. Season 4 is vastly different from all of the other seasons so far, and can best be described as being like the final season of Lost where we began getting flash forwards instead of flashbacks. I liked the way we learn bits of what happened in the aftermath of their return, five months after they left, a bit like how some of the Marvel tv shows have tried to address the aftermath of the reversal of Thanos’s snap, but am not sure I enjoyed this as much as previous seasons though it still kept me hooked. That said, having come this far, I now need to know how it all ends. Except I’ve just learnt there is also a spin-off series called Tomorrow’s Gone which might mean I’ll be reading this series still for a little longer than I intended. A good read, but not a patch on previous seasons.
Starting season 5 now. I read seasons 1-4 in less than 2 months. I can hardly wait to see what happens next. The characters are wonderful and the action and suspense thoroughly entertaining. I am excited to see Desmond back and hope Mary lives up to her potential. Sad about Luca. Happy for Brent with his son finally. Hope Marina does something for herself ..maybe her + ED can kick some alien but!!!
There is too much to write about each episode. I actually didn't read the episodes, but listened on an audio book. I was so amazed at the story. At first I wasn't sure how i'd feel because of who Boritzio is as a character in this book, but he is definitely someone you come to love, and when you do, the book starts all over again with a new story, same and new characters. I only wish there was more.
Season Four of Yesterday’s Gone starts about a year after the survivors return home, but the darkness has followed them home and it has been causing evil to spread across the globe. I thoroughly enjoyed reading season four and can’t wait to start reading season five.
Meh. Starting to loose steam with this one. I'm in that phase with this series where I kinda want to be done, but I've come this far and feel I can't quit just yet. Hoping season 5 picks it up and gets good
I listen to this as an audio book and it just seems like it is a lot of money for not much content, I probably will not be buying anymore of these as the series is large.
Disclosure: I started as a fan of Sean and Dave's, and as of June 2013 am currently working with Sean on other writing projects not related to this title. My opinions are in no way influenced by my other projects with Sean.
I received an advance copy of the book from the authors in exchange for an honest review.
The Yesterday's Gone series has certainly been an entertaining ride, one that I have enjoyed taking, and the fourth season is no exception. It is my second favorite of the authors' series, coming in behind Whitespace with, with similar development of great characters, and beating out their other series because of its excellent action and, of course, Boricio, my favorite character.
SLIGHT SPOILERS: Season Four finds us back on Earth. Those who "disappeared" in the incident on October 15th have made their way back home and are trying to recreate their lives. For some, that's easier than others.
However, the Darkness has followed them back to "our" Earth and is attempting to do here what it did "over there." This time it's being sneakier, biding its time, and at the beginning of the season, the characters aren't even aware of it. That quickly changes, however, and the book follows their attempts to stop it from recreating Hell on Earth.
CONS: I'll start with the things I liked LESS in this season just to get them out of the way. Please be aware that these did not detract from my overall enjoyment of the book but are simply points that I felt could be improved upon.
The role of women in this series has never been fantastic. In this season I felt like it was underplayed even more. This could just be because I've grown more sensitive to it since reading the first three seasons. But in particular, I felt that Mary was a stronger character in Seasons 1-3, whereas in this one I felt she was a little whiny and dependent on men. The other female characters, Rose, Marina and Paola, were much less interesting to me than their male counterparts.
The book took a while to really get going. The first third to half of the season felt like a long, slow simmer. That's not necessarily a problem—in fact it's my favorite part of their other series, Whitespace. But it's not what I expect from Yesterday's Gone.
Sometimes the transitions between characters felt a little bit jumpy. In particular there was one part where I remember seeing an extremely short chapter from one of the characters, and thinking it could just as easily have been told from another character's viewpoint if the other character's chapter had been extended slightly.
PROS: Boricio was amazing this season. How they've managed the evolution of his character is incredible. For anyone who doesn't know, Boricio is a serial killer with the foulest (and yet most poetic) mouth you've ever heard. Picture Dexter as played by Josh Holloway.
Luca is a couple of years older in this season, and the authors did a FANTASTIC job of aging his character, both in his dialogue and in his narration—i.e., what's going on inside his head. He still talks somewhat childishly, but they've toned it down perfectly as the character has aged.
SPOILER: A bully gets his comeuppance in this season in the most incredibly satisfying way.
SLIGHT SPOILER: There's a re-appearance of my second-favorite character of the series, right near the end and in the most WTF way.
The authors play with political and religious themes in this season in very interesting ways. The "Hollywood cult" element is particularly intriguing.
There's a very real sense of unrest and disquiet in this season, and it's not just because of the darkness. The authors do a very good job of capturing the political discord and social anxiety that the world is currently going through.
CONCLUSION: Season Four is an excellent continuation of the series that has everything I've always loved about Yesterday's Gone and sets up for a hopefully amazing Season Five. Fans of the series should love seeing the adventures of the characters back on Earth.
This season gets four stars from me. It would probably be five, except that Whitespace is five, and doesn't suffer from the cons I mentioned above. Despite the missing star, I'd highly recommend this book to anyone who's a fan of dark horror and/or dark science fiction.
This season has picked up the baton from season one and two and missed out season three, thankfully. We are taken to where everyone has returned to their lives. although families have been ripped apart because how can they explain what happened to them and where were they anyway? It’s well worth reading because there are events that you don’t want to miss.
If you've been keeping up with my book reviews...thank you X ;-) you will know Im a huge fan of apocalyptic, zombie and science fiction books.
Yesterdays Gone is the hugely popular best selling post apocalyptic book series from the library of the Collective Inkwell with the amazing kings of serials Sean Platt and David Wright.
I have read alot of their books including season one, season two and season three of Yesterdays gone and Im addicted to such a fantastic plot. This long awaited Season 4 was no exception and yet again I devoured the whole series within 2 days. Home at last but are they safe as the Darkness has found a way to follow them back. Season 4 continues the fast paced storyline with a few new characters and brings you even closer to the main characters, you get to know them a bit more, making you care about these characters and want to know whats going to happen to them, each and every character is not only believable but relatable.
If you love TV programs like Walking Dead and X-files you will love this amazing series. The boys have a lot to live up to now with such a huge following and they didn't disappoint. Season three closed up some of the story lines killing off some of the characters, but this in turn opened up some great options. It was great to see how the main characters were managing to salvage their lives now back on earth again...but can they...? Old favorites like Boricio are back but I actually felt sorry for Boricio...yes I did...and you need to read this to know why...even though he sort of deserved his punishment. Luca is back but is he himself.....? Im sure many of us can relate to the trials he is facing in season 4 of bullying? This storyline is fab and I cant wait to see where he is going in season five. Mary and Paola are back and loved how Mary has a larger role to play along with both Ed and Brent are brought together and thrown into yet more impossible situations. Its all about the vials and who can get them, it really is a battle between good and evil, that makes you want to turn those pages as quick as possible. Read cliffhanger after amazing cliffhanger with constant edge of seat action. Yet another masterpiece from the kings of cliffhangers and now I'm on tenderhooks for season five.
Buy yours from Amazon and save some pennies by buying them in omnibus editions rather than singly. You NEED to read season one, two and three first so you know whats going on, you wont regret it.
Reading the first third of Season Four I felt Yesterday's Gone had finally jumped the shark. To me it was a jumbled mess and I thought even Sean and Dave ( both of whom have more writing chops in their little fingers than I have in my entire body) didn't have any idea what was going on.
But then over the middle third of the the story lines began to clarify, the narrative became clearer and easier to follow and the characters slipped into the familiar people we know from seasons past.
And finally over the final third it became one of the best seasons of the four.
Season four features lots of Boricio, lots of Ed, lots of Luca. We lose some characters (although nobody ever goes away completely in Yesterday's Gone, not from all the worlds anyway). As IT gets closer and closer to possessing the vials IT needs to win the battle against the light and take control of this world IT finds the people here difficult to control.
Some surprises jump out near the end (Desmond?) and it finishes in some Oh My God cliffhangers to set up season five.
It's always difficult to review a book without giving too much away, especially with a series like 'Yesterday's Gone'. So I'm going to stay away from the plot and characters - otherwise this review will be full of spoilers.
It's written much like a TV series, with each 'episode' ending on a cliff hanger - it's very tempting to just keep reading 'one more chapter'! I was hooked with the first book, and I think I read all 4 available seasons in about 2 weeks, give or take. If you like science fiction/fantasy, and are a fan of 'edge of your seat' kind of TV, I suspect you would love these books.
I've given it a 4 star rating (rather than a 5), simply because some of the writing is a bit 'rough' (found myself wanting to edit quite a few sentences!), and some of the characters (Boricio!) did seem a bit over-done to me (although I'll admit that I was fascinated to read from his perspective). I am eagerly awaiting the next Season - this is a great book for raising huge numbers of questions, slowly answering them, while continuing to raise more. Compulsive reading!
I enjoyed this fourth season much more than I had expected. I devoured the first two seasons, and then my waning interest in season three left me undecided on whether to finish the series at all. Despite struggling to get through the third season, I found my thoughts drifting back to the story upon completion and ultimately purchased this fourth season as well.
While the plot seems unnecessarily "complex" (read: confusing) at times, I have become thoroughly invested in these characters and feel compelled to see how it ends. I admittedly skimmed through parts of the story, such as the zombie scenes in the hospital. I mean, what? I like TWD as much as the next fan, but I feel like they were an awkward inclusion to the current plot. All in all, I'm hooked and am pleasantly surprised with where the story is going. Unless season five is a complete train wreck, I'll be seeing this series through to the end after all.
I have been a fan of Yesterday's Gone ever since the first episode a few years back. After the ending of season three, I wasn't sure how the story could continue from there. To be honest, I was even a bit skeptical of whether Sean Platt and David Wright would be able to keep the story interesting for three more seasons, as they said they would... Well, this fourth season proved I had nothing to worry. If anything, the story is getting even more interesting!
If you're new to his series (or Platt and Wright's work in general), go and get a copy of Yesterday's Gone, season one now! You won't regret it.
This season is actually my favorite of YG so far. I grew to like previously despised characters a little more and completely enjoyed the new direction of the plot. I hope the authors are considering furthering the story soon. In the interim, I am devouring EW Robinson's Breakers series; another really great story.
I am so glad I picked up the first season of YG on Kobo because it introduced me to the world of independent writers and I've been thoroughly immersed in that world ever since.
For readers of Sci-Fi, post-apocalyptic, and serial fiction. Love the format...please keep writing, guys!
Season four introduces a host of characters new to the series. The first two thirds of the book is focused on familiarizing the reader with the new faces, in addition to bringing us up to speed on the lives of those characters we know and love from seasons 1-3 because some time has passed since the end of season three.
I found the new characters uninteresting, and the pace of much of season four was too slow. It was not what readers of this series are accustomed to. Fortunately, the final one third of the book provides the action and intensity that I love about Yesterday's Gone. I was left with a feeling of anticipation for season five, despite my dissatisfaction early on.
A mixed bag. The first two seasons of YG were excellent, but started to lose interest by the 3rd. The beginning of this season I continued to not really be invested in. The last thing the series needed was a host of new characters..but there they were adding to the muddle. I admit I was coming back to this after some time so was a little confused & forgotten some plot points. That said the second half improved with the pace picking up and started to enjoy again..though could have done without the infamous poop igloo. Interesting enough that I will continue on..however probably the series should have remained shorter..but kudos to the authors for trying the series approach.
I am so hooked on this series but I felt that this 4th season of Yesterday's Gone was lacking something. It might be just that it was a lot shorter than previous seasons but there was definitely something missing for me. It probably will all come together in the next part and I am hoping so. Still, it is a great story and so different from anything else out there right now, that I will hang in there and hope for the next season to be released. Hurry guys ... I am having withdrawals waiting for Season Five!
Oh dear. Only two stars this time. Don't like it, in fact I hate the way they resurrected a character right and the end of the book to save Mary and her lamb. Wtf... I enjoy twists but not beer battered bullshit ones, I mean seriously, Wtf. Part of what made these books a great read was because characters would die, in Game of Thrones, everyone dies. In Yesterday's Gone, everyone dies but comes back or the other world character does! Shame as well as I love the series. Sorry but I won't be buying the next one.
