Danger in Spades finds the gang planning a 90th birthday party for a local WWII vet, William King. Maggie's daughter Emily and a classmate, Gina, decide to tape an interview with William as a class project. What he tells the girls has the members of the historical society, especially Ruth, very worried, since it sounds like her beloved aunt Lillian might have been involved with a German spy. In the mean time, Maggie deals with Maine's unpredictable winter weather and several car problems that might not be normal.
Discovering WWII objects leads the historical society to plan an event honoring the last of their town's WWII veterans and showcasing the many items found in the historic homes. And in the process, a mystery is unearthed. Were there really German spies that came to this Maine coastal town in 1943? What happened? And how could that event have any connection to the community's work to establish a homeless shelter?

Maggie's friends are planning a fund raiser for the homeless shelter and a big birthday bash for one of their residents. Soon drama unfolds with the planning and the finding of German artifacts.
